Har varit en fin vecka, mycket har hänt och det kanske möjligtvis händer att jag kommer hem lite tidigare och turnerar Finland beroende på dokumentären.

There is one very important question imposed by Nashville Skyline: Can giving up cigarettes really change someone’s voice that much? That was, of course, Dylan’s explanation for the almost unrecognizable voice that appears on this album, and on “One More Night.” I’ve never smoked (unfortunately), but I can’t imagine this explanation can account for so much.

What’s more likely is that Dylan was affecting, at least partially, more of a country music baritone. Whatever the explanation, it almost makes Dylan sound like a good singer. There is an interview clip somewhere where a reporter asks him if he considers himself more of a songwriter, since he doesn’t sing very well. Dylan, as usual, does not take it well: “I think I’m an excellent singer.” Come on, Bob. There’s nothing I would change about his voice, but he’s no Sinatra.

“One More Night,” showcases this voice in a simple country number. This song fits somewhere between the instrumental modesty of “Nashville Skyline Rag” and the more poignant sound of “Lay Lady Lay.” And it’s more towards the former.

This isn’t to say the song is bad or lacking, just that it lacks any specific transcendent push. The song certainly captures the essence of a break-up song, and deftly uses the newfound croon of Dylan’s voice, but it also seems a little like a generic country song at times.

Como dato destacado fue el gurú de los Beatles, quienes asistieron a sus clases de meditación en Rishikesh (India); en alguna ocasión McCartney mostraba el pleno convencimiento de que esta práctica les ayudó a dar estabilidad al grupo.

De hecho, a Maharishi Mahesh Yogi le debemos canciones como “Sexy Sadie” o la primera versión del tema de John Lennon “Child Of Nature”, conocida después por “Jealous Guy”.

Pero no solo estos músicos sucumbieron al arte de la MT, como se conoce de forma abreviada. Por ejemplo, Le Luthiers le hicieron su particular homenaje hace tiempo.

Nunca se llegó a saber la verdad, pero se decía también que la ruptura de Mia Farrow con Frank Sinatra fue provocada por la MT, se tomó en aquel entonces como una especie de efecto secundario. Otro de los que se interesaron por la práctica fue Mike Love, el cantante de los Beach Boys.

El guitarrista y cantante de la década de los 60 Donovan fue otro de los artistas que sucumbieron ante esta forma de relajar la mente. Éste junto con Lynch no solo reconocieron su convicción acerca de esta práctica, sino que han intentado más de una vez difundir la MT entre los jóvenes londinenses. Esta película es solo un paso más en esa ardua tarea.

currently listening to “The Sinatra Christmas Album” by Frank Sinatra

Dia 26 de Janeiro de 1980 eu estava com Frank Sinatra no Rio de Janeiro.

Não foi um encontro, por assim dizer, íntimo. Comigo estavam mais 169.999 pessoas, em um estádio chamado Maracanã, compondo a maior audiência já reunida para assistir um único artista.

Frank, como sempre, reclamou da imprensa (“eu não vim aqui para falar com os repórteres. Eu vim para cantar para vocês”) e disse que era o momento mais importante de sua vida profissional.

Eu acredito. Sinatra estava visivelmente nervoso, tropeçou em algumas letras, e ainda teve que suportar um ósculo do famoso beijoqueiro.

Ao final, feliz e aliviado, correu por todos os cantos do palco, com um sorriso enorme estampado no rosto.

Mas ainda assim não acredito que cantar no Maracanã lotado fosse uma coisa que ele quisesse fazer toda semana.

Seu palco de preferência, me parece, eram as salas de concerto, com acústica impecável, os salões enfumaçados de cassinos.

Só isso, ver Sinatra em casa (mais precisamente em Nova York), justifica os 300 paus que custam o pacote de 4 CDs e 1 DVD mostrando Frank no lugar que ele avistava de sua cidade natal, Hoboken, em New Jersey.

A química entre ele e a audiência é visível.

Se, como já foi dito, não havia nenhum Sinatra melhor do que aquele que subia de smoking nos palcos, talvez não haja nenhum outro melhor do que o que fez isso no mid Manhattan.

Seu filho, Sinatra Jr., cuja mão apertei em 5 de Agosto de 2008, escreveu no livreto que acompanha o pacote que, quando está em Nova York e passa da meia noite, sempre que  olha pela janela para as ruas desertas, ele espera ver o vulto de um homem de chapéu, iluminado apenas pela chama de um cigarro, caminhando mais uma vez pelo lugar que ele chamava de casa. “Bem que eu queria” finaliza ele.

Resta o consolo de saber que podemos ouvi-lo na nossa casa. E na dele.

Has Jay-Z become NYC’s leading man? I remember when I first played Jay’s “Empire State of Mind” back in August and that first guitar lick which laid directly under a solid kick drum automatically separated itself from the rest of the material on “Blueprint 3.” Al Shux, the track’s producer, knew exactly what he was doing.

Well fast forward to November 25, the track hand delivered Hov his first #1 single on Billboard’ Hot 100, it possessed Lil Mama’s irrelevant ass to hop onstage during Hov and A.Keys’ monumental performance at the VMA’s in September, became the official N.Y. Yankees World Series anthem and has everyone from Australia to the Bronx praising the Big Apple.

With that said, MSG.com is letting the people decide whether or not “Empire State of Mind” deserves the accolades of “Unofficial Anthem” status for the city of New York. On December 4th (Hova’s date of birth), MSG will air Jay’s “Answer The Call” concert from September at 10:30pm and then follow up with Frank Sinatra’s, “Frank Sinatra: The Main Event” concert from October 1974.

After the concerts, you can head over to MSG.com to vote if you think Jay’s,  “Empire State of Mind” should replace Sinatra’s, “New York, New York” as the Big Apple’s unofficial anthem. King of New York, 50? Riiiiiiiiiiiight. But hey, I still like your aggressive content. *Jay-Z Laugh* Hahhahahahahaha.

It’s awesome because if you have a niche, such as I have, you can do this, offer your viewers books, movies, audio cd’s, apparel, the list is endless as to what you can offer your viewers. Then, on top of that…Amazon.com will pay you a commission and that’s really another main reason I joined. It is another way to make some extra money for all of us stay at home, work at home moms.

There are loads and loads of items you can add to your aStore with different categories and sub-categories you can add to your pages.

Of particular interest to me is the movie “Blue Hawaii” filmed in 1961 starring the King!…Elvis Presley. I remember watching this movie when I was little and being so in Love with Elvis Presley and Ann Margaret and Annette Funicello.

This among many other factors, but this is one I’m sure was a major factor in helping along the popularity of the Hawaiian print Aloha shirt. His popularity was unsurpassed in those days. I don’t only give him the credit, there were many many more before him, good looking guys, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, all those heavy hitters that gave the Hawaiian print Aloha shirt it’s popularity so enjoyed today by many of the artists who create prints for material and many of the many makers of Hawaiian print Aloha shirts.

The offshoots of all of this popularity are us little guys, the stay at home moms and work at home moms that take these specialty items and resell, used or new condition, on places like eBay or on places like a wordpress.com site/blog using PayPal as the only way to pay.

For this I am very grateful and am sure to express this gratefulness in humble prayer to Ke Akua for allowing me many different ways to make a living while staying home to raise my children instead of working my butt off for a company making just enough to pay for child care anyway!

It wasn’t easy to make it to the top for Sammy Davis Jr. back in the 50’s and 60’s.  He had the talent of a superstar, but  being a young  black man subjected him to humiliations that civil rights campaigns had only started to address.  And it hit Sammy hard.  Segregation was prevalent in many of the places Sammy performed, including Las Vegas.  Back in the 50’s a casino called the Moulin Rouge was practically the only place in Las Vegas where African Americans could gamble and stay.

One  particularly troubling incident for Sammy occurred at the 1960 Democratic convention, at which John F. Kennedy won the presidential nomination with help from Frank Sinatra and friends, including Sammy.  As Sammy was introduced, boos erupted from the Alabama and Mississippi delegations.  During that campaign, instead supporting Sammy, the Kennedy camp was worried about the consequences among voters in the South among others, and actually put pressure on Sammy to keep a low profile.  They even wanted him to put off his upcoming marriage to a white woman, May Britt, until the voting was over.  Frank refused to ask that of Sammy, but Sammy felt obligated, and so, for Frank and the campaign, he postponed the wedding.

Although it tooks years, Sammy eventually did get to see the times change and racial relations improve in America, although he didn’t stay with us long enough to see Barack Obama elected president.  That, Sammy would have loved. 

Sammy’s experiences are well documented in the book Rat Pack Confidential by Shawn Levy.  And Sammy’s on-stage personality is re-created in today’s Rat Pack tribute shows, featuring some of America’s top Rat Pack Impersonators.

Música sempre foi um ponto central de Family Guy (que já teve Frank Sinatra Jr. como convidado especial pelo menos duas vezes) e MacFarlane (que também dubla os principais personagens) leva jeito para a coisa, como nesse clipe em que ele canta a música de Cole Porter “You’re Sensational” – que no filme High Society Sinatra cantava para Grace Kelly.

det har vært en lang dag, noe som har ført til at jeg er både trøtt og sliten her jeg sitter i sofaen. mamma og stefar er på julebord og jeg er barnevakt for bror, som du kan se på forrige innlegg. jeg sitter å skal jobbe videre på sosiologi innleveringen min, men kjenner det prikke i hodet og nakken er stiv. att på til har jeg utrolig vondt i venstre skuldra etter at jeg tok svinevaksina i dag, jeg sverger at jeg nesten såg et smil på legen min da jeg utbrøyt et halt minutt etter at sprøyta var tatt; “Den va låke den!”. ting går litt seint med meg av og til, og det tok visst en stund før jeg innså at den svidde litt den vaksina.

sukk. the police synger så fint om åndetagene mine, bror sitter og spiller “snake” på mobilen sin og spiser potetgull. Cartoon Network står stille på i bakgrunnen, men det er Sting og folka hans som regjerer lyden i stua.  i hele dag har jeg hørt på sånne nydelige, klassiske sanger. Det har gått mye i Frank Sinatra, Fred Astair, Edith Piaf og Luis Armstrong. Det er så nydelig å høre på! helt ærlig har jeg ikke så mye å formidle, det har vært en herlig fridag og jeg gleder meg mer enn på lenge til juleferien. I morgen er det jobb igjen, det skal bli koselig..

Somos recepcionados por Isaac, olhando a cinzenta Nova York em um muito apropriado preto e branco, e acompanhamos histórias sendo escritas, reescritas e jogadas no lixo a todo momento. Afinal, está uma cidade que nunca pára. Sempre há pessoas chegando, indo embora, se estabelecendo, arruinando-se, experimentando, chorando, brigando e apaixonando-se novamente. É quase impossível de acompanhar tantos fluxos sem ficar louco, é verdade. E é tão irresistível quanto.

Manhattan faz isso. Nossos corações estão quebrados e nossas mentes estão estimuladas. Isaac namora uma garota de dezessete anos, pula fora do emprego na televisão, se apaixona pela amante do seu melhor amigo, hostiliza e é hostilizado pela ex-exposa que agora é lésbica, e o pior de tudo, não é um exemplo para a posterioridade. Ele mal traga os cigarros que fuma, afinal de contas.

Aqui nunca vamos encontrar, infelizmente ou não, o grande protagonista que Hollwyood erigiu década após década. Quem é o protagonista, afinal? Um homem perdido em seus próprios ideais de dignidade, relacionamento e vida? Que sente arrepios quando ouve críticas negativas ao trabalho de Ingmar Bergman tal qual uma senhora ricaça sente fricotes quando e criticada pela sua cafonice? Ou é Manhattan, desconstruída e desglamourizada tantas vezes, com obras como Operação França, Caminhos Perigosos e Faça a Coisa Certa?

Teria um tragicomediante, frente a esses mestres do drama visceral urbano, seu espaço pra desconstruir Nova York? Pois sim; aqui sentimos de forma tão palpável que estamos sem deus, que talvez não sejamos nada mesmo nesse mundo, mas ora bolas, nós queremos redenção, não queremos?

Gordon Willis agarra nossos olhares e nos faz viajar em meio à tempestade, à lua (eu tive um impulso louco de jogar você na superfície lunar e cometer perversão interestelar…), as exposições, aos bares, restaurantes, charretes, quartos esfumaçados onde ainda há sexo no meio de tanta violência, dinheiro e arranha-céus, aos bancos defronte a pontes – tudo na mais emocionante das composições de quadro, naquele momento da noite em que só as nossas vozes importam, já que somos, provavelmente, apenas sombras apaixonadas observando milênios de cultura humana – milênios ainda não o suficientes para nos impedir de fazer besteiras, trairmos nossos corações, sermos desonestos com nós mesmos. Não nos livra também que somos medíocres vítimas do acaso, e que as mulheres cansam de nós, e que nossos amigos não são sempre leais, e diabos, talvez sejamos uns chauvinistas que não aprenderam a perder.

Mas se não há nada depois da falência múltipla dos órgãos, se somos garotos solitários em um universo ateu, talvez aqui nem tudo seja uma farsa. Talvez possamos fazer algo além de nos redimir para cada falha nossa. Não sabemos tratar bem nossos parceiros, desprezamos aqueles que mostram algum valor, brigamos pelos motivos mais bestas, como se ainda tivéssemos treze anos. Eu acho que nós somos afobados e descrentes demais – em relação a nós mesmos. Queremos ser perfeitos, queremos que tudo dê sempre certo. Mas somos humanos no final das contas, não é?

Vai saber. Woody não se atreve a responder. Nos acena com prédios, fogos de artifício e George Gershwin. Rhapsody In Blue para a Grande Maçã continuar acordada, mais uma vez, acendendo mais um cigarro e tentando com um pouco mais de doçura.

ในฤดูร้อนปี 2000 วง Paradox ออกอลบัม SUMMER เอ้ย! ฤดูร้อนปี 1998 วง Manson มี tour ที่ Europe แต่ปลาขิงมีทำสัญญากับ Mono Nucleosis ไว้ ทำให้ต้องล้มเลิกการแสดงทั้งหมด มันก็เป็นอุปสรรคอย่างหนึ่ง แต่ภายหลัง Manson ก็ได้ สมใจนึกในสมัย Holy Wood (2000-2001)

ไม่นาน ต่อมาในสมัย Mechanical Animals ประมาณ 1998-1999 มีหลาย ๆ อย่างเปลี่ยนแปลงไป Zimmy ที่น่ารักออกจากวงแล้วแทนด้วย John5 ทั้ง ๆ ที่เพลง Promote ของอลบัมเป็นผลงานของ ZimZum Twiggy และ Manson ร่วมกันแต่ง นอกจากนี้ Michael Beinhorn จาก Soundgarden และ Hole ยังถูก Manson จ้างให้มาเป็น producer คนใหม่ในวงอีก ปลาขิงต้องจำเชื่อฟังเขา เพราะนายคนนี้เคยไล่ Patty Schemel มือกลองคนเก่าของวง Hole ออกจากวง ปลาขิงมาบ่นว่าแต่เดิมก่อนมีไอ้นี่มาเขาทำงานเพื่อวง แต่ครานี้ต้องมาฟังคำสั่งไอ้นี่ Manson จ้างไอ้หมอนี่มาเพื่อทำให้เสียงดนตรีดีขึ้น แต่ทำไมต้องให้ไอ้นี่มาสั้งให้เขาปรับปรุงการเล่นกลองไม่รู้เท่าไร แทนที่จะให้มันลงมาเล่นเองอย่างที่มันชอบเสียเลย ที่ปลาขิงโกรธได้ขนาดนี้เพราะ Beinhorn ไม่เคยแสดงให้เขาดู หรือสอนเขา เอาแต่สั่งเขา เหมือนกับปลาขิงไม่เชื่อว่าไอ้นี่เก่งจริง แต่ในที่สุดเขาก็ล้มความคิดเขาซะ เมื่อเขาพบว่า Beinhorn เป็นคนเก่ง

ปลาขิงเป็นคนที่แปลกที่สุดในวง เพราะเขาไม่เสพ ไม่สูบ และไม่ดื่ม Manson บรรยายเขาว่า เขาเงียบที่สุดและจนดูน่ากลัวที่สุด เหมือนกับระเบิดเวลาที่รอการระเบิดครั้งใหญ่ Manson ยังให้ฉายาเขาอีกว่า “the strangest and quietest person in the band” (ที่จริงอาจจะเป็นคนปกติสุด แต่เทียบกับทุกคนในวงที่แปลก) นอกจากนี้ปลาขิงยังเป็นสมาชิกคนหนึ่งที่อยู่ในวง Marilyn Manson ได้นาน นาน นานมาก ๆ รองจาก Pogo (Gacy) (1989-ปัจจุบัน) ปัจจุบัน ปลาขิงทำ side project กับวง Martyr Plot หลังจากเข้าโรงพยาบาลเพราะตกเวที ทำให้ Chris Vrenna (ex-NIN) มาเล่นแทนชั่วคราว

An artist in California named Bruni Sablan has created over 1300 paintings of legendary music stars and musicians in what she calls her Jazz Masters Series.  Born in Brazil to a Sicilian Italian father and Lebanese mother, Ms. Sablan is a fine artist who was introduced to jazz by her father, and has also done some singing herself.

Among her portrait subjects are Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Peggy Lee, Nat King Cole, and even Michael Jackson.  But perhaps the subject who has inspired the most portraits is Frank Sinatra.  Each portrait of F.S. is named for one of the songs he performed, like the one above, which is called Everything Happens To Me.
