I’ve been having fun with and writing about freebies for over ten years. As you might guess, I have encountered my share of “unbelievers” who take the cynical stance that nothing is free. Here are many of the myths that the skeptics mistake for obvious truths and my considered views on them:
1. There is no free lunch.
This cliché is taken as truth by many people. The statement means you pay for everything one way or another. I will agree that this is technically true most of the time. I try to locate free offers and free services that require very little effort, but every request for free offers or registration for a free service takes some time and some effort as well as giving up some privacy. However, I contend that if you have the time, enjoy doing it, and are careful the “cost” becomes negligible.
2. You can’t get anything worthwhile for free.
I will admit that most free offers are not highly valuable. But then again, once in a while some pretty cool free offers show up. I’ve received free brand-name running shoes, free coffee makers, free software, free computer parts (after rebate), a free DVD player, and more. Even the little freebies are fun and often useful. I never have a shortage of travel size shampoo or toothpaste and I love collecting little trinkets like key rings, Olympic pins, and the like.
3. Registering for freebies is the surest way get spam.
Actually, the surest way to get spam is to have an email address at all. But, seriously, it is easy to avoid getting your main email address on spam lists due to registering for freebies. Never use your main email address for that purpose. When I select free offers to list, I filter out the high risk ones and warn you if they look a little iffy. I suggest having at least two junk email accounts. Use one for low risk offers that need verification and use the other for offers of higher spam risk.
4. A free offer is a free offer – you might as well go for all of them.
Unfortunately, there are many free offers out there that are not worth your time, I do my best to filter those out for you. You can read abut some of the nastier ones in the Scams and Shams section of the site.
5. Everything on the Internet is free.
Some people make the mistake of thinking any graphic or any text the find on the Internet is free for them use as they see fit. Unless the author states that the content is free, it is not. Be a good Net citizen and respect copyrights.
6. Free magazines are too much of a hassle because you have to cancel them.
That may be true of free trial offers, but I list only free full subscriptions. You should always check to make sure the offer has not changed since I listed it. Publishers frequently offer free subscriptions as a way to increase circulation to sell more and higher priced advertisements.
7. All the good free services ended with the dot com bust.
If you remember the days of the dot com boom you may remember all the free phone related services and other cool and valuable free services that were available. It is true that many of the best of these ended as financial reality set in, but there has been a resurgence. Take the Gizmo Project for example – new and interesting free services are popping up all the time.
8. Free software is not as good as purchased applications.
That may have frequently been true at one time, but we are in a new era where open source and other free software has gained much more respect. For example, I use the OpenOffice.org suite in my home office exclusively. Why pay Microsoft $400 for Microsoft Office, when I can get the same functionality and often less bugs for free? I also use countless other free programs for work and recreation.
9. There is no harm in requesting a free offer as many times as I want.
I hate to say it, but there are many people who think this way. Most offers either explicitly state, or imply that you may only make one request per person or household. Being greedy and requesting multiples is not only unfair to others, it is considered fraud and my land you in legal trouble. For more on this subject take a look at this article on Freebies Ethics.
10. If you want legal music you have to pay for it.
This may be true for many current popular artists, but there are tens of thousands of free music selections out there. Before you spend all your money on iTunes, you might want to check out some of these sources of free music

As a coach I am asked all the time how to get more money? How do I allow, create, bring about more money in my life?

I ask each time, “do you tithe’”?  The answer is just about always a resounding no with a qualifier.. , when I get more money, when I get my bills paid, when I’m wealthy.. etc etc.

Tithing goes back to the beginning of man’s history.  People throughout times have known and understand something that a lot of folks today just don’t get.  Abundance is a NATURAL FLOW>>>>> get the flow part.

Most people will share their time, their opinions.. lol unwanted quite often too.. , but they will not share their MONEY>

Money is what people want but they will not open the door of blessings and let money flow as it’s intended to flow.  Money is energy, it needs to flow.. that’s what energy does.. it’s alive, it moves.. it transforms.

Now you sit there with your little bit of money and don’t trust the Universal Source enough to give any of your money to those who bless you.  I know a lot of folks think tithing is just about church and religion and are resistant to the idea.

That’s old programming that keeps you in the poor house. Tithing isn’t about church and religion, it’s about trust. 

Think for a moment about all the things that flow in and through your life.  You don’t have to ask for air, water, friendship.  Your life is open to these things. You understand that breathing is natural, if you want a friend you gotta be a friend.

It’s the trying to hold onto your money that keeps it from flowing in your life as easily as it was intended. 

Try this.. find someone who really blesses you.. give them a few bucks.  Do it with love and acceptance that prosperity is natural.  It’s natural to share to be a part of the energy of abundance.

Don’t do it just to get more back, do it so you can exercise your giving and faith muscles. They’ve become small due to lack of exercise.

Joining photo contests can be easy. Find a good photo contest where you are qualified to join, read the rules and get your camera ready and do the photo shoot.  Sounds simple but not everyone can win.  Only the best is chosen and win in a photography competition.  But this is not limited to professional photographers only.  Even beginners CAN win.

Some photographers, especially amateurs, may not really intend to win.  But if you join a photography competition, why not try to have a really stunning photo that can win the contest?  If you join a free contest, you have nothing to lose but you have a lot to gain.  Aside from winning, this is an opportunity to expose your photography skills, learn new ideas and techniques, and most of all, gain experience.

As a beginner, there are simple things that you should not forget nor ignore:

1. It is important to take note of the rules and criteria of the photo contest you’re joining.  You don’t want to mess up this opportunity to win by getting disqualified in the contest.

2. Think outside the box.  To make your photo stand out, have a unique shot.  Put some emotion, originality, or impact in your photo.  Do not take a photo that is too cliche.  Make sure that you capture an emotion in your picture or perhaps the personality of your subject.

3. Know the rules and principles in photography.  Some photographers would break these rules but being completely ignorant makes a huge difference.  It will be too apparent and these kinds of photos never win in any photo contest.  For aspiring photographers, knowing and understanding the fundamentals of framing and composition will be very helpful for them.

4. In joining a photography competition, put in more than one entry since judging always involve subjectivity .  Even professional photographers submit more than one entry.

5. Do not submit your entry at the last minute.  Judges can give more time looking at the entries that were submitted early.  Most photographers submit at the last minute so the judges won’t have the luxury of time to look into those submissions.  Even if you are joining in a free contest, make it a habit to submit your entry early.

As a beginner, start out by doing your best even in a free contest. Their judges can be professional photographers as well so expect to receive negative feedbacks about your work and make it a tool for improvement.  Do not be intimidated by the work of the professionals.  Enjoy your craft and keep improving.  Photography is an art and each one of us has different perspective.

Photography is something that many people love. Whether its just about capturing moments or wanting to learn the art of it, photography is a part of people’s lives.  Anyone can take photos of anything.  But professional photographers has the edge of making their photos more beautiful and stunning than ordinary ones.  They definitely have an edge in photography contests!

Amateur photographers may be hesitant to join photography contests because of the pros. But these photo competitions can actually help them become a pro.  For amateur photographers, it is most advisable for them to join a free contest so that they will have nothing to lose but their time and effort which are all worthy in developing their skills.

There has been many kinds of photography that emerged in the past years and digital photography is what most people use in today’s generation.  Since its what most people use today, let us delve into the basics of digital photography.

Once you have your digital camera with you, don’t get too excited to capture winning photos yet.  Read the handbook that comes with it.  We usually just ignore it but quite honestly, we can learn some worthy information from it. Digital cameras today has various tools and settings that gives great effects to our photos.  So reading the handbook will be a great help to learn how to use your camera’s special features.  This is another advantage of professional photographers from the amateur ones – they know how to use their camera and do some tricks.

A DSLR camera will give you better shots than the compact digital camera.  Though compact digital cameras today already has advanced features.  As a beginner, you may use your compact digital camera while learning more about photography.  If you want to become a professional photographer, then you should consider buying a DSLR camera later on.

If you want to become a professional photographer or would like to win in photo competitions, you have to develop your photography skills. Know more about photography – its rules, elements, and the likes. There are also photography books and magazines that can give you ideas and updates.  Lastly, practice makes perfect, so to say.  Take many photos as you can.  You can always delete those photos that aren’t too good, and that’s the amazing thing about digital cameras.

To practice your skills, do join in photography contests.  By doing so, you may get professional feedbacks about your work that will help you improve with your shots.  As a beginner, its not wise to join in big photo competitions.  Find a free contest instead so that you will have nothing to lose but time. Even if you are just an amateur photographer, you should also aim to win.  A free contest also have prizes but it may not be too big like the prestigious photo competitions have.

To be more familiar with the features of your camera, experiment with it.
As well as with different styles and techniques in photography.  You might be amazed with the outcome of your photo. Be more creative and most importantly, have fun!

Have you admired a photo of an insect? A flower perhaps?  You might not appreciate the beauty of a flower or an insect in an ordinary photo but if you see a closeup photo of them, you might be impressed with their beauty.  That’s what macro photography can do.  It is a type of photography that is all about details.  It takes a closeup photo of ordinary objects and most common subjects are insects and flowers.  The image of a butterfly or a small flower is magnified many times to fit in a standard portrait or in your desktop. It can give us a “bugs view” on the world.

Macro photographs can be seen in photography contests especially in a photo challenge. Though macro photographs can best be taken by an SLR camera, compact cameras today have special features for taking a macro photograph which allows you to take a good quality close-up photo.

Macro photographs are winning pieces in photography contests. They can bring out the beauty of an ordinary object.  Flies, bees, worms, ants, flowers, and other tiny objects that you have not appreciated until you saw them up close.  You may need some good equipments to achieve a very detailed photo like macro lenses for SLR cameras.

A specialist macro lens for SLR cameras can give you a very detailed photograph.  Though you can also take a macro photograph without it.  You just have to be more creative and resourceful.  Find the right subject, the right angle, and the right lighting.

Have a vision of what you want to achieve in your macro photograph.  Get as close as possible to your subject.  If you have a zoom facility, use it.  Zoom lenses may create some minor distortion but it won’t affect too much of your shot.

If you want to enhance your skills in macro photography, joining in photography contests can help you practice and develop your skills.  Look for a free contest to join in and learn more ideas, gain experience, and most especially practice your skills.  Since they are a free contest, you having nothing to lose except time and effort but they’re all worthy of the result.  It would be more helpful if you join a free contest that is focused on macro photography.  There are some photography contests that has a daily, weekly, or monthly photo challenge.  Look for a photo challenge with macro photography as a theme, read the rules, and give it a go.

Babies are among the most favorite subject for a photo not only by photographers but by almost all people.  Babies are just too cute and adorable to be photographed.  Hence, taking a picture of them will make you proud of your photo especially if they are your babies.  A lot of parents would even be excited to join in a baby picture contest not only to win but to show off their cute baby.

Most parents, and photographers alike, join a baby picture contest just for fun especially if its a free contest.  You’ve got nothing to lose in there.  All you have to do is submit a qualified photo of your baby and will have an added benefit if you win the photography contest.

You may find a lot of tips on how to win a baby picture contest.  But I will give you three helpful poses that will bring out the cuteness of your baby in a photo.

1. Take a photo of your baby while she’s eating.  Have your camera ready at meal time and capture those cute and adorable moments of your baby while eating.  The photo will be more natural and appealing.

2. One of the most important thing in photography is to show the personality of your subject on the photo by taking a shot at what he does best.  If your baby enjoys playing with bubbles, have your camera ready during bath time.  Take as much photo as you can and just go over with the results later.

3. Emotions.  Showing some emotions can touch a viewer’s heart.  Perhaps the most appealing emotion that a baby can share is happiness.  A baby’s smile or laugh is very heart-warming to anyone.

Since it could be hard to ask our babies to do a certain pose, the above poses are very helpful in bringing out your baby’s best in photos.  There may be other poses that can show your baby’s cuteness but the three given above are very easy to take.

Taking a photo of your baby is the most enjoyable part in joining a baby picture contest.  I think that’s the most important in joining any other photography contest – to enjoy.  If you are an amateur photographer, joining a free contest is most advisable.  You can have fun, learn more about photography, and practice your photography skills at no cost.

If you want to enter your baby’s photo in a free contest, there is no need to look for a specific contest for babies.  There are a lot of general photography contest where you can enter your baby’s photo.  You just have to check its rules and criteria.  If you are qualified, then you can join the contest and take photos of your baby according to their criteria.

Photography is a form of art and is a favorite hobby by many.  It is not only for the professionals but also for amateurs who just love to take pictures and capture special moments in their lives.  Professional photographers started as amateurs as well so photography skills can be practiced and developed over time.

Winning a photo contest, even if its just a free contest and we’re just amateurs, is one of our main goals in joning in.  You do not only get the prize but also the recognition.

Know the rules of the contest.  Each photo contest has their own rules and criteria for judging.  Most of them also has a theme like baby pictures, landscape photography, or abstract photography.  Photography competitions isn’t just about who has the best photo but the one that falls on their criteria and has followed their rules.

2. One reason why companies hold photography competitions, especially a free contest, is that they are looking for an image that they can use to portray their business or their product.  So it will be an advantage for you if you research about the company and if possible, where they will be using the photo.

3. Have your image perfectly exposed.  Judges are usually skilled and professional photographers so they will know which is technically poor and which is not.

4. Check and double check your image.  The composition of your photo is very important.  Judges can easily see distractions anywhere in your photo.  Try to make it eye-catching as you can.

5.  Be creative.  There are certain rules in photography that you can either follow or break.  Try to experiment and be unique with your ideas.  You may check out some winning images in their previous contest or in other photography competitions.  Find out how they won and you may also apply it in taking your photo. You do not have to copy but you can have an idea out of them.

6. Find a photo contest that has a theme that interests you most.  If your favorite subject in a photo are babies, find a baby picture contest.  Other themes are landscapes, abstract photography, pets, and many others.  It will be easier for you to achieve a great photo if you love the theme.

Perhaps the best thing in joining a photography contest is that it is fun and exciting.  There is nothing much to lose if you are joining a free contest.  It can also be your training ground in becoming a professional photographer.

Ricciardi countered by asking for a four-player package: left-handed starter Joe Saunders, third baseman/shortstop Brandon Wood, shortstop Erick Aybar and a high-ceiling prospect from among the group of outfielder Peter Bourjos, left-hander Trevor Reckling and right-hander Sean O’Sullivan. The Angels have turned up the heat and are pressuring the Phillies to get the job done. If they don’t land Roy Halladay expect the Angels to try and get Scott Kazmir from the Rays.

It will be tough but: Tampa Bay Rays

Roy Halladay has told several Tampa Bay players that he would waive his no-trade clause to play for the Rays, according to major-league sources. The pitcher resides in Odessa, Fla., just north of the Tampa Bay area. The Rays have the prospects to pull the deal off but they don’t have the payroll flexibility. Other teams may have to get involved and the Rays would have to clear payroll first by trading Scott Kazmir. This would be tough but still an outside shot.

There are other teams that are being mentioned in the deal such as Boston (no way since they are in the East) and the Dodgers, but these three teams have the best shot. By this time next week Roy Halladay will be in a new uniform.
