When the Acer Gaming PCs first release, and I read about them in PC Gamer, and actually purchased one myself, I was quite happy with their product.
Luckily, mine hasn’t burst into flames, it’s done quite well. So maybe its just a little bit of a radical claim that Acer Gaming PCs are crap?
Yes, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, “The insulation on the computer’s internal wiring can become bent or stripped, causing the wires to overheat while the product is in use”. And what happens when the wires overheat while the product is in use? Well, according to two cases reported to the CSPC, the computers short-circuit, “resulting in melted internal components and external casing”.

Are you serious EA? Pushing back a free game, when Combat Arms needs competition most? On the official “Heroes” website, it now states: # Battlefield Heroes™ is a brand new Play 4 Free game from the people that brought you the multi-million selling Battlefield 1942™ and Battlefield 2™ # It’s a fun cartoon-style shooter which caters to players of all skill levels – easy to pick up and play, but with deep character development # It will be released for the PC as a free download in 2008 Now it’s just set for release in 2008, in general, while it was supposed to be released in summer 2008, which is now over.

Shame on you EA. Looking Good, EA. Just hurry it up! Looking Good, EA. Just hurry it up! Anyways, this cartoon-styled shooter reminds many of Valve’s Team Fortress: 2, and some fanboys have been complaining like children about EA copying. This is in no way true.

I know this is a bit late but with all the wedding planning and life in general as of late life has been a bit busy. But I got a great game for any one that not only like the area style FPS games but also likes the Quake games in general.

Quake live is an online only version of the popular FPS game series. Created and supported by ID software ( the makers of the game series ). Quake live is fun, fast paced, and every thing you come to know and love about the area style FPS genre. After you install the browser add on you are first tested to see your play level by having a one on one match with the AI. The reason for this is so they can get an idea of where your skill level is at and recommend matches based on that skill level so you are able to have a fun but still challanging game experience. The graphics are very good for a web based game, and the game ran smooth most of the time ( i did get a hick up ever so often but that might be because i was downloading another game at the time ). The game offers the normal game mods such as death match and capture the flag dual, and clan matches, but offers really nothing new to the genre as a whole. There was a verity of weapons like the machine gun, a gender launcher, a pulse gun, some kind of Lazar gun, and a rocket launcher, along with the normal Health and armor power ups. While this game offered nothing new it did do a good job of keeping the old school toys and style from getting two old. They let you pick your char, and there was enough to chose from that odds are you will almost never see a clone of your self in a single match. The matches where fast paced lasting 10 minutes each, and there was plenty of areas, 40 in all so odds are you will not get board to fast. Over all this game is nice if your looking for a quick fast Frag fest. If your looking for some thing new or with Depth then this is not it.

The Game is currently on windows only , with a mac and Linux port coming soon according to the site. It should run on any system out there since is a web based game so the graphics are light. t is a small and fast download and install and you should be up and running in minutes.

Over all this game was fun but if your a fan of the Gene odds are you got a copy of either quake 4 or the newest unreal and this game will not stack up. But if your looking for some thing to pas the time with sitting in a boring class or on break at work and do not have either a large amount of room on your PC then this game will help fill that void, so go check it out.

Quake Live

Pros:

Open source, Small install, Portable versions out there, good graphics, fast paced.

Cons: Limited weapons, Limited single player options.

This week I am covering Assault Cube. Assault Cube, and please note this game has nothing to do with the horror films also named Cube. Instead Assault Cube is named because of the way there maps are made. This game is  a fast passed Area style FPS, similar to the unreal and quake series games.  Game modes include death match, team death match, and one shot one kill. this game is very fast passed and each round lasts about 10 minutes total. The single player options include an option to set the level of the Bots Ai so if your not that good of a shooter you can still find a satisfying level that will not make your game play experience fun and enjoyable.  The download is small at only 40 megs ( install is about 55 megs) so it will fit on any size HD. there is customizable support for all video screen sizes, and settings. also the guys at portable apps are working on making a probable version. and while there is not a lot of maps for that one yet it is still in development so there will probly be more once there done.

There is some down sides to the game however. There is only 4 guns that come with the game( geriatric assault rifle, sub machine gun, sniper rifle, and shotgun) plus a pistol, and if you want more you will need to mod them and add them in your self. The single player mode has no story mode or any thing like that so if your some one that likes to have a reason why your running around killing people you will not find it here. Also the Model selection is limited with only about 5 models which are all the same base model and uniform just different colors on them.

Over all this game is fun and fast paced if you looking for a area style game to blow some time on I say get this game. It will help fill in some unused time that can go toe to toe with the big boys. But if your looking for more then just run and gun or not into the area style games then this one will not only leave you feeling like your unfulfilled but might turn you off from the style altogether.

Assault Cube.

Today’s most-downloaded free iPhone app is the FPS game Cube. It doesn’t look bad at all, especially for being a cell phone game (oh snap, he just called the iPhone a cell phone!) and for costing a whole zero doll hairs.

The game controls by tilting/rotating the phone, and you press the bottom-right of the screen to move forward, and the bottom-left to shoot. It is really hard to control, so much so that I found it unplayable. I think that future FPS games should feature a touchscreen d-pad on the bottom-right that controls the aim, and you tilt the phone to move forward or strafe. To me, that would be the ideal control scheme. Until then, you can try out this game, which I can recommend since it’s free (otherwise, I’d tell you to stay away).

Dunno about the details yet, but something in the game must be payed… I’m guessing something like skins, weapons, or even some sort of in-game advertising.
But alas, I believe it’ll be worthwhile trying the game when it’s out.

Combat Arms came up as a great alternative.
The game is free, has great graphics, similar gameplay, and it A LOT lighter than Counter Strike: Source, running on my PC with not frame by frame lags which had already become routine to me.

Combat Arms isn’t as accurate as Counter Strike, and sometimes you see other players “blinking” backwards when there’s network lagging… but as a good advantage, besides being way lighter, it has some MMO elements which allows your character to evolve.

There’s a ranking system where you gain experience points according to playtime, which allows your charater to level up and earn some virtual money to spend in equipment and mods… like new weapons, silencers and others.

And finally, the thing that will please many: Its’ FREE!
You only have to go to the official website, download the game (about 700Mb), sign up, and play.

Warning for folks that use ZoneAlarm: maybe it’s best if you disable or put it in GameMode before playing…

Oh yeah, the game was developed by Nexon, the same producer of other well known titles like Maple Story and Maginobi. And for those alergic to cute graphics, no, Combat Arms have nothing like that.

I recommend it! I’m playing for a few days now, it’s addicting.

I would need a site to host the game on. As of now i have paid a couple hundred dollars in software getting ready to make this game. I do not plan on spending more to host this game until maybe i get some kind of donation of something. I might even have ads on the site or something so i can make money and get faster download speeds for everyone.

The only problem as of now is i do not know a site that will host unlimited space and unlimted bandwidth with an unlimited file size for upload. I have heard of t35.com but i am not sure whether it would be sufficent. I have some extra time in the upcoming month and was planning on creating a fps game. I would naturally allow people to download and play this game completely free. The game would have decent graphics and i would have different levels which could be played from clicking a .exe file without installation. The different levels or chapters of the game would most likely be updated weekly and maybe if i had enough time daily.
