Actually that is the Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine. Being raised in the wine country I am always game for a good glass of wine,  but this group of wine enthusiast have taken the love of wine to a higher level. The Brotherhood currently has 25 chapters through the United states, including the 7 in California and that is how I was introduced to the Lodi Chapter. I met the Lodi Chapter Commander, John Tudor and his wife 4 years ago when they invited me to come shoot an event. And now I have been to over 6 different events. Each one gets more interesting for me. It’s basically a group of people dedicated to the wine industry, who want to keep the love of American wines thriving. The organization is open to who ever as long as you love wine. This particular event was at the St. Jorge Winery in Acampo. I had never been to the winery and I have to say I was in aah this particular evening. The winery’s burnt orange exterior against the blue and pink sky might have had something to do with it. But even the little cherubs riding fish in the courtyards fountain made me feel like I had stepped into a Roman style villa. I enjoyed watching the Knights and Gentle Ladies of the Brotherhood sip St. Jorge’s Portuguese wines that evening. I hope you all enjoy how I captured the night.

Cold, vibrant, refreshing, quiet, and beautiful. I took a trip to visit my Grandma in Wisconsin. It was relaxing and did I mention cold? My camera lens was not big enough to capture this states beauty so I took several photos. And I knew this would be a rare opportunity to shoot stuff I never get to photograph. I borrowed my grandmas car to go on solo photo adventures. Driving down miles and miles of country roads I instantly became familiar with faces and places. I almost hit a few deers, I thought a brown lama standing near me was a bear, and I was very close to causing a car collision while photographing wildlife, (sorry grandma). But I am safely back in good-ol-Cali and enjoying the warm winter here. I want to thank Cafe Wren for your delicious soups, sandwiches, and coffee. Mmmmmm very yummy. The photography of local artist covering the walls of this only cafe in town inspired me to photograph Wisconsin. And of course thank you to my Grandma for everything, I love you and miss you always. Wish we were not so many miles apart. xoxo

Después de años pensando que trabajaba como free-lance, ahora encuentro un nombre que define mejor lo que hacemos miles de profesionales autónomos de la comunicación: portfolio workers.

Se está perdiendo la dicotomía entre asalariado o proveedor: el portfolio worker no está atado por un contrato a una única empresa pero tampoco vende su trabajo por horas como un proveedor free-lance, sino que vende su trabajo en función de su talento y su experiencia trabajando en diferentes proyectos para varios clientes, en varias disciplinas distintas y abarcando gran variedad de trabajos.

S’il y a bien une tendance casse-gueule par excellence en ce moment, c’est bien le sarouel.

Mais comme j’ai l’amour du risque, Jonathan et Jennyfer, les justiciers milliardaires, font la vie dure aux gangsters (hé hé, les plus de 30 ans ne me remerciez pas, c’est cadeau) et que j’avais craqué pour celui-ci aux dernières soldes d’été, je me sacrifie et vous livre en direct live mes sensations.

D’abord, y a pas à dire, la coupe est hyper confortable (et la matière aussi). On ne se pose pas la question de savoir si on a de grosses fesses ou pas, tout est savamment dissimulé. Idem pour les cuisses. Ensuite, personne ne m’a arrêtée dans la rue pour me signaler que mon futal se faisait la malle (ni pour me demander des autographes non plus mais bon, c’est certainement parce qu’ils n’ont pas osé), ni même regardée d’un air bizarre. Au contraire, j’ai même cru voir une lueur moqueuse admirative chez certaines filles… Bon aucune réaction à noter du côté des garçons, hormis mon Homme qui aime bien (c’est déjà ça). Du coup pour ma part, c’est adopté et je me mets en quête d’un modèle en velours pour cet hiver.

Je vous propose quelques tenues avec des bottes : je trouve qu’elles finissent bien l’ensemble en jouant sur le contraste large / étroit.

Je pense aussi qu’avec des grosses chaussettes et des sandales, cela doit être pas mal non plus (bien que plus risqué/osé) mais je n’ai pas encore les sandales adéquates.

Et vous, qu’en pensez-vous ? Tentées par le sarouel ?

Combien de vie peut on cumuler ? Il me semble que j’en ai un peu trop en ce moment. Je cumule trois vies professionnelles !

Je suis salariée, freelance depuis septembre et maintenant officiellement étudiante à la fac. Une vie très active, certes, mais je n’arrive évidement pas à tout faire. Plusieurs solutions s’offrent à moi :

- Partitionner mon cerveau et me greffer deux autres bras

- Me gaver d’extasy afin de ne plus avoir besoin de dormir

- Embaucher un petit chinois pour lui sous traiter mon travail

- Ou faire des choix

Whaaa, j’avoue que c’est rude, aucunes de ses solutions ne me conviennent. Même si la dernière peut paraître la plus simple, faire un choix ne l’est pas forcement. Peut être que les journées sont trop courtes, il faudrait les rallongées de six heures, sans bien sure subir la fatigue. Une journée de 30 heures, ça ne serait pas mal ? Dix heures de sommeil et vingt heures d’activité, ça pourrait être vraiment efficace !

Je suis la femme pieuvre, je vais de mes tentacules prendre à bras le corps tout ce travail et en plus les papilles de mon mari seront comblées par ma cuisine saine, savoureuse et équilibrée, mon corps toujours en meilleure forme grace à des scéances de yoga et de natation régulières, ma curiosité assouvie par les cinés, théâtres et expos avalés, et bien sur toujours dans le coup coté culture et actualité.

On peut toujours rêver…

This was my first bull sale ever. It was not like most photo shoots I am hired for. But I enjoyed every minute of it. The McPhee family has been raising Red Angus cattle for over 38 years. This year marks 29 years of running the anual bull sale, which is held right on the McPhee Ranch in Lodi Ca. My good friend was raised working at almost ever one of those sales. So I have always been interested in what she was talking about. Here is to your next juicy delicious Red Angus hamburger. Mmmmm. Please enjoy my photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Latin music, food, wine, tequila and art was the gist of the 1st Annual Latin Music Festival at the McLeod Lake Amphitheater, inside the Weber Point Event Center, in Stockton. A special headlining performance from Pete Escovedo and his Orchestra, was enjoyed by several sitting around the water by moonlight.  Antonio Pasos, from Pasos Vineyards served the VIP night club till late hours with his award winning wines, and famous Mojitos. It was a festival to remember. Please enjoy the photos.

Le chiavi del Cowo, coworking libero da orari.

Come annunciato nel precedente post, presentiamo alcune novità, che vanno (speriamo) nella direzione di un miglior servizio.

Queste piccole-grandi innovazioni (per noi sono grandissime, in realtà!) concludono un periodo particolarmente intenso del nostro spazio, iniziato con i lavori per la nuova sala riunioni circa tre mesi fa.

Ma vediamole una per volta.

Prezzi.

Da oggi, il prezzo di una postazione per una giornata, con il pacchetto mensile, scende a  8,33 euro.
Con disponibilità illimitata della postazione, 24 ore su 24, 7 giorni su 7.

Se poi, dopo aver provato a stare da noi un po’, decidete di starci per 6 mesi, spenderete 7,50 al giorno, sempre con disponibilità 24/7.

Dopo lungo riflettere, abbiamo infatti deciso che i nostri coworker si meritano le…

Chiavi.

In un certo senso è stata la decisione più difficile, ma ci siamo decisi perché pensiamo che ogni cosa, per quanto buona, abbia dei margini di miglioramento.

(E anche perché molti coworker, da bravi free-lance, hanno manifestato l’esigenza di lavorare senza orari).

Lo dico sinceramente: se non avessimo fatto buona pratica di coworking per quasi un anno e mezzo, e non avessimo incontrato  i seri e affidabili professionisti che si siedono qui con noi ogni mattina, non ce la saremmo sentita.

Ma per fortuna la storia di Cowo è una storia di fiducia reciproca, correttezza e stima. Quindi perché non spingerci un pochino oltre?

Flessibilità.

Un giorno ogni tanto, un giorno sì e uno no, un giorno e una notte, tutte le notti (!) pochi giorni alla settimana, tutte le mattine, tutti i pomeriggi, tutti i sabati, giornate di prova con riunione, scrivanie matrimoniali, postazioni in condivisione… da quando abbiamo aperto, le richieste sono state di tutti i tipi.

Il marketing di un coworking (come del resto tutto il marketing, imho) non può che essere ascolto, perché siamo un ambito che non ha business plan conosciuti (non da noi almeno), e nemmeno abbiamo mai visto da vicino altri coworking di successo. Blue Ocean strategy, potrebbe dire qualcuno.

Quindi lo sforzo è stato di offrire la massima flessibilità possibile, per le nostre capacità di gestione.

“Capacità di gestione” significa, banalmente, aprire-chudere la porta a una certa ora (per gli utilizzi che non prevedono le chiavi), gestire posti, postazioni e prenotazioni, tenere ordine nei contratti di utilizzo, non perdere il filo di chi è seduto dove e per quanto tempo, e tante altre cose che noi Monkeys facciamo tutti i giorni, per questo bambino strano e affascinante che stiamo crescendo, di nome Cowo.

In concreto, i pacchetti prevedono ora:

- Cowo_01: 1 giornata, lun-ven ore 9-18 (euro 25 + iva)

- Cowo_03: 3 giornate in un mese, lun-ven ore 9-18 (euro 50 + iva)

- Cowo_10: 10 giornate in un mese, lun-ven ore 9-18 (euro 150 + iva)

- Cowo_40: 40 giornate in un anno, lun-ven ore 9-18 (euro 400 + iva)

- Cowo_24/7: 1 mese utilizzo illimitato 24/7 con chiavi personali (euro 250 + iva)

- Cowo_Office: 1 mese utilizzo illimitato ufficio indipendente, 24/7 con chiavi personali, comprensivo di 2 postazioni e tavolo riunioni per 4 (euro 500 + iva)

Le opzioni 24/7 e Office prevedono uno sconto del 10% su prenotazioni di sei mesi.

Ufficio indipendente.

Il piano superiore, di fatto troppo grande per le esigenze di Monkey Business, offre ora un confortevole ufficio per due, chiuso da una bella parete a vetri (opzione Cowo_Office).

Questa stanza è una buona sistemazione per un team di due persone, o per una persona che vuole avere la privacy di una sistemazione indipendente.

Vi è anche un tavolo rotondo che può ospitare riunioni di 4 persone.

Bicycle Room.

Last but not least, un piccolo servizio che migliora la qualità della vita di chi viene al Cowo in bicicletta.

Nello stanzino accanto ai bagni abbiamo ricavato un piccolo “garage per bici”, in grado di accogliere due biciclette (una delle quali con voluminoso seggiolino baby, vero Davide?)

Personalmente, come cittadino, sono grato a chi evita di inquinare l’aria, occupare parcheggi, fare rumore inutile.

Sono quindi ben contento di poter risparmiare a queste persone di armeggiare con lucchetti e chiavi intorno ai pali di Via Ventura…

Cowo Milano - Serata Girl Geek Dinner 20/02/09

A molti mesi dall’inizio di questa attività (Cowo è aperto da quasi un anno e mezzo, dal 1° aprile 2008), è arrivato il momento di fare un passaggio, nell’approccio di Monkey Business a questa faccenda del coworking.

Iniziata quasi per gioco, cresciuta con la forza della buona volontà e dell’entusiasmo che ci hanno trasmesso i coworker, l’esperienza ha ormai raggiunto una fase di maturità.

Questo significa per noi due cose.

1.
Il Cowo ha acquisito rilevanza strategica nella vita di Monkey Business. Non si tratta di un semplice “arrotondamento economico” ma di una dimensione lavorativa in grado di apportare contributi reali alle nostre capacità di comunicatori (Monkey, per chi non avesse voglia di cliccare sul link, è l’agenzia di comunicazione che ha creato Cowo, e che lo ospita);

2.
Il nostro Cowo diventa, a questo punto, un progetto a tutto tondo di community per i nomad workers e i professionisti indipendenti che gravitano nell’area milanese, e come tale va rivisto, in modo che possa sostenersi, ed evolversi.

Stiamo arrivando al punto hot del discorso: i soldi.

Nella presentazione di Coworking Project ho inserito una frase:

Coworking Project by Cowo® è un’idea di business sostenibile: vuol essere un modo di guadagnare, un modo di incontrare persone interessanti, un modo di vivere meglio.

Bene, la scommessa continua ad essere quella, anche se abbiamo deciso di concentrarci meglio sulle risorse che sono necessarie per tutto questo.

Far tornare i conti non è mai semplice, ma abbiamo deciso di provarci.

E, secondo noi, non significa aumentare i prezzi.

Anche se abbiamo investimenti da far rientrare, e l’immobile non è gratis, pensiamo che una maggiore redditività derivi da qualcosa di più di un semplice ritocco delle tariffe verso l’alto.

Per tutti questi motivi, le novità che inizieremo a introdurre dal  1°ottobre riguarderanno sì degli aumenti, ma non nelle tariffe, bensì nei servizi offerti.

In fondo è l’approccio che stiamo già tentando con la sala riunioni: un servizio di buon livello (ma altri nei nostri panni non avrebbero difficoltà a lanciarsi molto di più con gli aggettivi) a prezzo decisamente sostenibile e flessibilità totale.

Per noi, questa è la strada.

Forse sbaglieremo, ma si sa che le scimmie amano inventarsi i percorsi…

Cowo Roma/Tiburtina - Zona relax

Spazi confortevoli e curati, un ambiente favorevole alla creatività e alle idee, e da oggi anche al coworking: Cowo dà il benvenuto nel network a Spazio 360°, studio di comunicazione di Elisabetta Frasca e Stefano Borghi.

Saranno felici i freelance e i nomad worker romani, che di recente si sono fatti vivi con noi manifestando l’esigenza di avere più spazi nella capitale.

J’ai envoyé la semaine dernière mon tout premier devis. J’ai bien mis deux jours à retoucher la mise en page. Et hier j’ai reçu la signature avec un chèque d’accompte. Un chèque, c’est dingue.

En effet, pour gagner plus il faut travailler plus, je me lance donc en parallèle de mon poste dans la micro-entreprise. Je vais bosser en freelance. C’est pour moi un tournant. J’ai toujours travaillé en agence et là je vais pour la permière fois trimer pour ma pomme, je vais pouvoir savourer les bénéfices de mon labeur et non plus seulement les inconvehients. Non pas que j’ai besoin d’argent, ça c’est le bonus, mais plutot envie de toucher à autre chose, de vivre le travail différement. Je compte bien réinvestir ce capital illico dans un ordinateur flambant neuf.

Le rendez vous d’affaire c’était très bien passé. Pas facile pour une femme d’à peine 30ans face à 2 hommes de plus de 50. Des vieux de la vieille qui ont déja roulé leur bosse, et qui savent exactement ce qu’ils veulent. Et pour une fois, après une heure à les attendre, j’étais plutot décontractée, j’ai su répondre du tac au tac, sans me dire à chaque question “merde qu’est-ce qu’il faut répondre ?”. Non, les mots sortaient de ma bouche, mes idées etaient claires, et moi aussi je savais ce que je voulais.

Me voici donc working girl sur tous les fronts, prête à défier le temps et à rentrer dans la spiral infernale du métro-boulot-métro-boulot-dodo.

Hello world, we took a week off. That’s right, computer free just beaching it on the East Coast. We met with some family, Josh and his fiance Kait, who are getting married in Pennsylvania, May of 2010 –  we look forward to capturing your special day. Other than that just slow beaches, fast city life and cool nights. As lovely as that sounds, it’s so nice to be back in Cali. So have you ever defied the laws of i-phone-ography? I gave it a try. What do you think? This first pano pic i attempted to mesh together with 7 i-phone images. Not bad for a phone ah? : ) And I have to give credit to one of our i-photographer assistants, Becky, for capturing the man leaning in his chair. Nice shot.

La sala riunioni del Cowo di Milano Lambrate.

Finalmente chiusa e insonorizzata (per il comfort di chi sta fuori e la privacy di chi sta dentro), la sala riunioni del Cowo ci riempie di orgoglio.

Con l’occasione, abbiamo riformulato i prezzi di utilizzo, senza aumentarli, ma fornendo nuove opzioni, più flessibili per venire incontro a tutte le esigenze.

Tra le novità, vi sono anche i pacchetti per utilizzi multipli, che rendono i nostri prezzi ancoooooooooooora più sostenibili (li trovate tutti nella pagina dedicata).

I prezzi bassi sono una scommessa: ci teniamo a mantenere un servizio di buon livello a condizioni accessibili per tutti i coworkers, la scommessa sta nel vedere se il mercato premierà la nostra offerta, consentendoci un ritorno dell’investimento in tempi umani.

Non siamo ossessionati dal profitto (non faremmo il coworking se lo fossimo!) ma non per questo trattiamo alla leggera il tema degli investimenti e del guadagno.

Continuiamo a sperimentare, nel frattempo… buona riunione a tutti!

[UPDATE - 24 settembre: tra le novità in arrivo al Cowo dal 1° ottobre, due di queste riguardano la sala riunioni. Primo: abbiamo introdotto l'utilizzo orario, per chi ha bisogno di meeting di una sola ora. Secondo: i coworker residenti hanno diritto a un bonus mensile per una riunione di 4 ore con diritto di prenotazione (oltre alla solita possibilità di utilizzo informale senza prenotazione, che rimane)].
