When you look up any information about Jump Clubb, you’ll find the same press release posted everywhere. Why no other pertinent details? Because Jump Clubb, based in Beverly Hills, wants to remain anonymous. Amazingly, they (whoever ‘they’ are) don’t want to become famous, despite coming from the Hills. Their twitter bio reads: “We make music. That is all you will know.”

So, given that’s all we’ll know, all that’s left to talk about is their music. Their new album The Love of No Dance dropped last month. Comprised of 7 tracks, right now the only place to get it is iTunes. BUT, JC has made a mixtape for us and this mixtape has 5 out of the 7 tracks from the album on it. For the Love of…Mixtape is available through their website for free. It’s about 14 different snippets of tracks and full length Jump Clubb songs all put together in a mix, all coming in a teensy bit shy of a half hour. It’s fantastic.

At first listen, the beginning of the mix failed to intrigue me. The intro and Beat Happening’s “Indian Summer” portion didn’t seem to mesh very well. But, once we got into the Friendly Fires remix, I got into it and stayed into it…almost to the end. Twenty minutes in when the mix hits “Sunlight” by Eric’s Trip, I wondered ‘what the hell’ it was doing in there. Whoever Jump Clubb is must really like that song and wanted to throw it in the mix somewhere. That’s my only conclusion. In between there’s a lot of good stuff, though. I particularly enjoy Peter Bjorn and John’s “It Don’t Move Me” remix by one of the latest phenomenon’s Miike Snow. As far as Jump Clubb’s tracks themselves, I like them all. I took part in a particularly terrible gig on Friday night, actually it was an ordeal not a gig, I should have gone to watch Rook and the Ravens down the road in hindsight. Anyway, no matter, the point is when I got home I needed to pull something apart to cheer myself up so I decided to have a crack at one of Toro del Funk’s tracks – ‘Antimatter’. I didn’t spend a great deal of time on it so it’s pretty rushed but you get the idea of what I was after.

The plan I went with was as follows – I took 9 samples from the original track, each 4 bars in length, then I lined them up in the Reaktor 5 Instrument ‘Fast FX’ (it’s part of the Electronic Instruments Vol 2 pack) and set up a performance patch for it. I’ve got a small Behringer BCF2000 midi controller on loan so I set up a bunch of midi controls that I could fiddle with each sample going through the various effects via the controller, mainly delays, a gate, some basic filters and a neat little sample offset toy.  Once this was up and running I just jammed about with the 9 samples and recorded my results into Logic.

I then built the arrangement from two of the more coherent sections of the jam and finished everything up with some extra drums from Reason and added a tiny bit of live analogue Jen bass over the last few bars. There are some basic ambient reverb’s involved on a lot of the rhythmic synth noise, plenty of fake tape compression and some sub-bass bits early on, I can’t hear the effects properly on these speakers so I’ve just guessed at how they should be sat (might be a nice surprise to hear them one day!).

It spilled over into tonight so I’ve called it the Pumpkinhead remix by Al Hallows – 192kbps version streams below and there’s a 320kbps version download link here.

In life, films were one field of amusement that Michael Jackson never seized. In death, the King of Pop may finally expand his kingdom to the multiplex.

Sony Pictures settled a trade Monday to publish a musical film composed from 80 hr of rehearsal footage shot in preparation for the 50 London concerts Jackson was preparing when he passed June 25.

Referred after the title of those concerts, which Jackson had vowed would be his last, the film This Is It is scheduled for publish Oct. 30.

The picture will be available simultaneously countywide and round the world on that particular date, Sony Pictures spokesman Steve Elzer says. It’s a quickly turnaround for a movie, but Elzer says editors have been at work on the footage since earlier the trade was struck, and the leftover two months will be plenty of time to finish the projection. “We’re not hurrying it, but we do want to get it out there,” he pronounces.

Chronological Sequences will be in 3-D, and new interviews are projected with those who knew and worked out with Jackson on the uncomplete project.

Negotiations to build up the footage for theatrical release began in mid-July, approximately three weeks after Jackson’s decease. A offering war between the leading Hollywood studios rose out then for the still-uncompleted film.

The release announcement occurred shortly after Sony’s final bid of $60 million for the film rights was approved Monday by a Los Angeles County probate court administering deals ‘tween Jackson’s landed estate and concert booster AEG Live, which had to return $85 million for ticketholders to the London shows. “You’re demanding people to go to a movie theater and spend $10, $15 to see a concert of old songs they’ll see on DVD in the future few months,” Poland says.
