So far at Bruk we’ve been fairly neutral over the Gully/Gaza debate/all out war. Faced with Mavado or Vybz Kartel we just choose Busy Signal. But levels are high this month in the land of bashment, and we’re calling it a one-all draw here.

First up Vado’s War Is In The Air (topical see), another Gully God chilling intro into a choppy Jeep banger, some Godfather melodies with Mr Brooks’ “rifle singing sweeter than Akon.” Out to DJ Frass pon buttons.

Kartel comes correct with Mi Lovin It on DJ Karim’s Duffle Bag Riddim. This one a laser shoot out with some sweet dub-techno synth washes, 808 snare rolls and string stabs. Download both full riddim packs at JamWorld876.

And to settle things, this weeks contribution from Busy. Not even going to start to describe this one, but trust me it’s one part bashy to two parts hiphop and all parts future classic.

Yeah it’s been out for a couple of weeks but I’ve only just had the time to download and listen to it. Bloody awesome it is too. I’d write a review of the Irish old school thrash metallers third album, but you can get the whole thing yourself for free so why would I?

One of my friends was playing around with his keyboard and some effects it had, like looping drum beats and having laughter tied to the synth part.  He recorded it and sent it to me, just to show what he had done.  It seemed to be lacking something, so I forwarded it to D.J. Funky Dogg, who added some music effects to it, along with various sound effects and vocal utterances (plus some, uhh, other utterances).   It’s quite funny, if you find flatulence funny.  So I’m providing the download link for those who enjoy such things.  Just so you know, the file is about 1MB and the song is about 1 minute long.

First, a couple of disclaimers:

1) Obviously, if you are offended by the audible passing of gas, you should not download this free MP3.
2) If you are around people who can’t handle “potty humor”, you should listen on headphones.
3) If you are at work in a cubicle farm, go ahead and crank it up on your computer speakers — it’ll make everyone’s day a little more surreal.    (Though if folks think you’re uncouth, that’s yo’ problem!)
4) If you hurt yourself laughing, you don’t laugh often enough.  Subscribe to this blog and review the archives for help with that.

My ears were bored. With only 254 songs in my ITunes, it was time for a new batch of melodies to hit my speakers. Armed with a search engine and an hour, I decided a hunt for new songs might be worth the time and effort. This is what I found:

Monks. Pop Songs. Together. Gregorian, a captivating find, is none other than the original pop group basking in traditional monk chants. I can’t quite explain it; you’ll just have to hear it. But it’s quite worth the extra three minutes.

Another group I found combines electronica, rock, and metal riffs complimented by grungy vocals. Circle of Dust anyone?

For those of you who like finding new music for your mp3 players, like me, I found decent free mp3 download sites. This mode of promotion is becoming more popular on mainstream websites.

Purevolume.com– You won’t believe the variety of free music on this website. I found metal and screamo versions of Lady Gaga’s Just Dance and Owl Citie’s Fireflies, both of which sound strangely decent for the genres. Don’t forget to check out original songs as well, such as catchy melodies from  the pop rock group The Monster Goes RAWR.

Amazon.com– That’s right, there’s a whole free section in the online megastore. Among the free tunes, there are full CDs available including mixes and EPs from new artists. It’s worth taking a listen.
