Also known as Virgo Four, Eric Lewis and Martyn Sanders made some of the finest early Chicago…. well, back then we just called it all techno, but it seems to have ended up being categorised as deep house. This is just very special, calm but intense, with a pulsing glide it shares with Larry “Mr Fingers” Heard but precious few others. Just have a listen to the glistening streetlight freeway cruise of ‘Ride’, maybe run it back to back with Bam Bam’s “Where’s Your Child?”, to get a flavour of the times. These guys did very little after this defining moment, just a three tracker in 1992 as Ace & the Sandman on Saber. Then they were gone…

For those who care, these tracks were originally released as two EPs by the legendary Trax label out of that Chicago: “Do You Know Who You Are” credited to Virgo Four and “Ride” as by M.E. (i.e. Martyn & Eric). This album collecting the pair was only released over in the UK, it seems.

FIRST UP.. My favorite rapper (alive) Lupe Fiasco – He got a brand new mixtape out called “Enemy Of The State – A Love Story.” It was released on Thanksgiving in America (Nov.26) and its pretty sick. He uses beats from Lil Wayne, JayZ, Radiohead, Drake, Diddy’s new group Dirty Money.

Theres a track called “All the Way Turnt Up” on a Travis Barker beat where he says “I do the register / you jus get them fries right / I don’t trust America / after watching Zeitgeist” – Need I say more? Go check it..

Daz is back with some more hot shit.. The death row veteran (who I think hates Suge Knight now… a lot)’s new album is sick. A solid West Coast banger. The first track is fire “You Let Me Down feat. Latoya Williams” aand the rest of the album follows up for real..

BUT.. My favorite track on the whole album has got to be “2ND TO NONE” – A smooth sample, chill strings, piano and rhythm. This is my favorite track cuz this song is ABOUT HIS MOTHER.. Everyone knows my moms meant the world to me, so this track hit me hard – I love this track, he does it WELL not corny – reminds me of Dear Mama by Pac – CHECK THIS TRACK OUT FOR SURE HERE!

Freeway got a new album out that is pretty good. I like freeway a lot, but this album didnt stand out as anything hella crazy, but its a solid album still. I’m pretty sure he went to Hajj (Muslim Pilgrimage) so congratulations to him if he on that, I dunno if it was this year but either way..

Last night I didn’t want to sleep in my apartment, even though I have it for a few more nights. I wanted to sleep in the van, so November 25 became my official First Night. Here’s what my bed looked like:

Now I can’t truly say that I’m a vandweller yet: I still came home to have a shower (and see? I’m still calling the apartment ‘home’). The metamorphosis is a gradual one… but it’s definitely begun!

Some lame news though… a chip that appeared in my window last week has now grown to a 2″ crack, which is too big to repair, so now I need a new windshield. The idea of taking my home to a repair shop is kind of unsettling.
