Anna Sui, Anna Sui, Anna Sui…

My younger sister use to have an Anna Sui shirt and I thought it was super cute although, I don’t remember much about it besides the fact that it was just a basic purple shirt with something on the front of it. Years later, as my affinity to fashion bloomed, I found Anna Sui again and fell in love with her cowboy shoes, hats, crazy prints, and messy, but yet oh so perfect dresses. A few weeks ago, I saw an ad with her collection for Target but haven’t had the chance to take a look at the Target website nor gone to a Target store and check out her collection. I finally had the chance today and tried on some dresses. It fits very well and the length is perfect for a short/average gal like me. If you want to get something from her collection, I suggest you hurry up and get it fast because some of the items I want in my size are already gone. AND a lot of the items on the Target website are sold out!

There are a lot more items to her collection, but I took a long time in the fitting room and did not feel like I should take any minute longer so here are some items:

Let me note right at the outset that the subject of CEO compensation is fraught with extraordinary difficulties. The reason for this is that very different philosophical structures are present in the uproar without any careful distinctions being made.

The public outrage is based on a fuzzy sense that raw power is being exercised—unjustly. This feeling is based on the intuition that the real worth of a person running a large corporation cannot possibly be that much greater than that of someone who performs an important subsidiary role in the corporation. Therefore raw power must be involved: the chief executive is rewarded beyond his or her deserts. This differential in power is due to the correct perception that employees have no clout whatsoever in the company. Then people think of their now skinny 401Ks and also mumble: “Nor does the humble shareholder.” The sense that justice is violated arises from the feeling that, somehow, society ought to distribute the common wealth more evenly. Just a little more evenly. Nobody wants draconic measures. On top of all this, the sense of injustice rises to the stratosphere when the CEO lavished with millions hasn’t made a profit and has just been bailed out by taxpayer funds.

Those who hold this view don’t automatically buy into the capitalist notion that Property is God. Neither are they fooled by the mythos that the Market is all wise. They know better. Neither do they believe what the recorded voice on the telephone says: “Your call is important to us.” If our call were really important to them, they’d have a real person answering that blasted telephone.

The fuzzy understanding in the public mind arises because our culture attempts to realize conflicting ends and is failing in the job. These ends are freedom on  the one hand and its necessary constraints on the other. Without those constraints, freedom rapidly morphs into chaos and then into stagnation. The concept of the Market is supposed to provide the constraining borders within which freedom can operate. But the concept of the Market presumes that all participants are equal. But they’re not. Thus the need for government arises. But, in a democracy, especially one disorganized as ours has become—where money is the necessary lubricant without which no one gets elected or retains office—the suspicion is always present that the very people who need constraining are paying the cop on the beat.

I will now proceed to show that cultural factors play a major role. Towers Perrin, a Stamford, CT human resources firm, conducted a survey a while back on CEO compensation in Japan, Europe, and in the United States. A brief discussion of that study appears in this Wall Street Journal article. The chief findings are illustrated in the graphic below.

This image shows that U.S. CEOs, running the same size companies, earn nine times more on average than their Japanese counterparts and twice more than their European counterparts. Now let us brings this into yet more focus by talking about income stratification. Let me put it this way. How much more does the top person earn than the lowest contributor to the same enterprise? The data shown above are for the 2004-2006 time period. Well, in 2006 the median income—the median, mind, not the lowest—was $43,460 for men and $33,437 for women in the United States. Since men and women are roughly present in the workforce in equal numbers, lets take the average of that: $38,449. This means that the Japanese CEO earned 34 times as much as the median wage, the U.S. CEO earned 312 times more! What accounts for this astounding difference if not culture?

Now for another contrast. Let’s look at one of the more difficult professions—military service. In today’s U.S. military, a rank private (an E-2) earns $18,828 a year at the start of his or her military career. The highest general (an O-12, a four-star) earns $216,732 after 38 years of service. The data are available here. What multiple of the private’s pay does the seasoned general earn? He earns 11.5 times more. If we translate that multiple to the corporate sector, assuming that median pay was the lowest pay (which is a real stretch), the top CEO would have earned $441,600 a year—not a sum to sneeze at, exactly. Many CEOs, indeed, have compensation in that range, but not those who head up our really big enterprises. There are more than a thousand of these, and they employ the bulk of the workers in the private sector. It is precisely these people’s salaries, bonuses, options, and fringes that set the blood of ordinary people boiling.

All of this, of course, the weird cultural differences, the absence of justice, real or perceived, has radiations way beyond the economic, the secular realm, where LaMarotte is rooted. Reality extends beyond this layer—and we have to seek justice and understanding elsewhere.

I got this black Olivia Fringe Top on sale at Gina Tricot the other day. It was originally 149NOK, and I got it for 49NOK. Love to pair it (tucked in) with my stonewashed Funky Zipper Leggings or my highwaist Urban Outfitters BDG Denim Leggings.

I am not a fan of fringed stuff but my eyes were glued to that white fringe jersey dress when I just saw it. The above are some nice fringed items I discovered on ASOS and I realized that maybe I should start wearing some fringes on my body too!

Projeto de férias: comprar franjas de seda e sair aplicando em camisetas velhas.

Eu tenho vários projetos de férias, entre eles estão: bordar um vestido de paêtes (hahah eu rio de mim mesma!), franjas everywhere e tricotar um suéter (fiz a frente e abandonei…por enquanto!). Pelo menos um projeto tem que ser cumprido!

Moroccan silk plaid

The silk plaid shown above was part of a handwoven bounty that my friend Penelope generously brought me from her trip to Morocco. I saw a very similar piece online, described as a shawl that was probably made in Fez but worn in the south.

The fine red silk warp yarns are sett at approximately 60 epi and threaded on a point twill draw. The pale gold silk warp is sett more densely than the red is (100+ epi), so it creates a horizontal rib overplaid that sort of covers the wefts (see detail below). All of the weft yarns are coarser silk than the warp yarns (approximately 40 ppi).

Penelope also brought back the spools of Moroccan dyed silk yarn that are shown below. I haven’t used any of them yet because they look so elegant the way they are, but the yarn appears to be about the thickness of the weft yarns in the piece.

Although I thought that this textile was intended to be worn, it isn’t reversible. There is a definite right side that looks lustrous and feels, well, silky, but the back side has a thin coat of a sticky substance. That makes me wonder what the backing is, whether it has anything to do with the holes in the cloth, and what — if anything — I should do about it, but those are questions for an expert.

Without a doubt, my favorite part of the cloth is the colorful fringes that were added to both ends.

The fringes are cotton braids that were wrapped with shiny, jingly silver paillettes. All of the textiles that Penelope brought back from Morocco for me have paillettes that were either woven in or added later — I don’t know if that was because she knows that I love paillettes, sequins, and glittery yarn, or because the Moroccan weavers do, or both.

achei esse diy e to quase saindo correndo pra ir fazer a-g-o-r-a e usar em todos os meus sapatos! é muito facil, é mto lindo, versátil e bom que dá-com-tudo menina (hahah adoro qdo as tias falam isso)…e claro cheap cheap, adoramos! vai vendo:

1)com uma fita métrica meça o tamanho do seu tornozelo e adicione 3cm,  pegue um pedaço de couro (pode ser retalho, pode ser usado, no caso foi usado o cano de uma bota velha! mas tem que ser um pedaço de couro sem costuras nem emendas, ok?!) e corte um retangulo de 15cm de altura mais ou menos pela largura do seu tornozelo+os 3cm. corte 4 retângulos desse.

2) Desenhe uma linha de cerca de 2 ou 3cm a partir do topo do retângulo usando uma régua e uma agulha tesoura ou lâmina, só pra marcar sabe? essa linha vai ser o seu limite de corte.

3) agora é só começar a cortar as franjas, finas e uniformes…mas só até a margem marcada em cima. faça isso com os 4 pedaços.

4)pegue 2 dos retângulos, passe cola na margem superior e cole 2 juntinhos pra dar bastante volume nas franjas, pq a gente gosta de fartura nas franjas!!! pra colar use cola de sapateiro ou cola de tecido (não vai usar super bonder que vai ficar duro, ressecado e não maleável hein!)

5)try them on! coloque em volta do tornozelo pra ver se deu certo o tamanho e caso precise faça ajustes no tamanho,  se as franjas ficarem muito compridas corte dos lados pro meio formando um V, dá um efeito bem bonito. mas se quiser deixar retinho também pode tsá.

6)por último o fecho, compre um fechinho desses pra fazer colares e costure dos dois lados, mas dá pra fechar de outras maneiras, com um botão de pressão ou se vc tiver com muita pressa é quer usar djá faça um furinho em cada extremidade das margens superiores, passe uma tirinha de couro e amarre.

7) e…prontcho!!! tálinda!!! e bom que vc pode colocar em várias botas, sandálias e sapatos diferentes! dá usar até com havaianas pra ir a padaria no domingo de manhã! chiqueza meu bem!

Man Finds Jesus in a bag of Cheetos

Steve Cragg noticed his Cheeto had a rather heavenly appearance and upon further inspection realized that it favored Jesus.  Now he has given his cheeto the nickname Cheesus!

BEDFORD, Ohio – An Ohio man who argued with his grown son over a messy bedroom said he overreacted when he called 911. Andrew Mizsak called authorities Thursday after his 28-year-old son — who’s a school board member in the Cleveland suburb of Bedford — threw a plate of food across the kitchen table and made a fist at him when told to clean his room.

The son, also named Andrew, lives in a room in his parents’ basement.

The father declined to press charges and told police he doesn’t want to ruin his son’s political career.

The son, who also works as a political consultant, said he’s lucky to be living in the house rent free. He also promises to keep his room clean.  ( copied from yahoo news)

Man charged with felony for shooting his lawnmower

MILWAUKEE – A Milwaukee man was accused of shooting his lawn mower because it wouldn’t start. Keith Walendowski, 56, was charged with felony possession of a short-barreled shotgun or rifle and misdemeanor disorderly conduct while armed.

According to the criminal complaint, Walendowski said he was angry because his Lawn Boy wouldn’t start Wednesday morning. He told police quote, “I can do that, it’s my lawn mower and my yard so I can shoot it if I want.”

A woman who lives at Walendowski’s house reported the incident. She said he was intoxicated.

Walendowski could face up to an $11,000 fine and six years and three months in prison if convicted.

Man charged with passing gas towards a police officer

A West Virginia man who police said passed gas and fanned it toward a patrolman has been charged with battery on a police officer.

Jose A. Cruz, 34, of Clarksburg, was pulled over early Tuesday for driving without headlights, police said. According to the criminal complaint, Cruz smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and failed three field sobriety tests before he was handcuffed and taken to a police station for a breathalyzer test.

As Patrolman T.E. Parsons prepared the machine, Cruz scooted his chair toward Parsons, lifted his leg and “passed gas loudly,” the complaint said.

Cruz, according to complaint, then fanned the gas toward the officer.

“The gas was very odorous and created contact of an insulting or provoking nature with Patrolman Parsons,” the complaint alleged.

He was also charged with driving under the influence, driving without headlights and two counts of obstruction.

Cruz acknowledged passing gas, but said he didn’t move his chair toward the officer nor aim gas at the patrolman. He said he had an upset stomach at the time, but police denied his request to go to the bathroom when he first arrived at the station.

“I couldn’t hold it no more,” he said.

He also denied being drunk and uncooperative as the police complaint alleged. He added he was upset at being prepared for a breathalyzer test while having an asthma attack. The police statement said he later resisted being secured for a trip to a hospital that he requested for asthma treatment.

Cruz said the officers thought the gas incident was funny when it happened and laughed about it with him.

“This is ridiculous,” he said. “I could be facing time.” (copied from oddball news)
