Wir haben Ende November und ich muss doch jetzt schon mit den Planungen für meinen Einsatz in Thailand anfangen.
Per E-Mail und Facebook habe ich bereits Kontakt zu einem jungen Mann, namens Jonas, der mit mir nach Thailand fliegen wird. Er war bereits dort auf der Schule und kennt sich gut aus, was für mich sicherlich nicht von Nachteil sein wird. Ich freue mich auf mein Jahr mit ihm.
Nächste Woche werde ich meinen Reisepass beantragen!
Achja, auch die Weihnachtsgeschenke dieses Jahr, zielen darauf ab, dass ich ein Jahr woanders leben werde.
Ich wäre froh, wenn ihr im Gebet an mich denken würdet.

Das macht Mut für die Zukunft: Jugendliche, die freiwillig in der Stadtbibliothek arbeiten! Aber lassen wir die junge Dame selbst erzählen:

Hallo. Ich bin Ronja Schlemme und habe am 1. September ein FSJ Kultur in der Stadtbibliothek begonnen.
Ich komme aus dem schönen Hessen, dem Dorf Heisebeck und bin 19 Jahre alt.
Wie ich auf die Idee komme, ein freiwilliges soziales Jahr im kulturellen Bereich zu machen und was das eigentlich ist: Ein FSJ Kultur heißt ein Jahr in einer kulturellen Einrichtung zu arbeiten. Man bekommt dabei einen Einblick in die Praxis und findet heraus, was Kulturarbeit bedeutet. Außerdem nimmt man regelmäßig an Seminaren mit anderen Freiwilligen teil.
Nach meinem bestandenen Abitur und 13 Jahren Schule möchte ich erst noch einmal etwas Praktisches machen, bevor ich mit einem Studium beginne. Das FSJ dient mir als Orientierungsphase und zählt an allen Universitäten als Wartesemester.
Ich bin in der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit der Stadtbibliothek tätig und somit für Veranstaltungen, Plakate, Flyer usw. zuständig.
Ich bin sehr gespannt, was dieses Jahr alles noch so auf mich zukommen wird und kann allen Bibliotheksmuffeln schon mal verraten, dass es sich lohnt, mal vorbeizuschauen!

CLANDESTINO será un acto cultural en apoyo a las personas inmigrantes que se celebrará el día 12 de Noviembre en el teatro Darymelia, a partir de las 20,30 h. Este pretende ser un acto de la ciudadanía de Jaén por la solidaridad y contra el egoísmo, un abrir los ojos en vez de cerrarlos contra la indiferencia cómplice ante lo que ocurre a nuestro alrededor. El día 12 es un acto contra todo lo que impide el desarrollo de unos derechos para todos y no sólo para unos pocos.

Die neue Regierung möchte nun also den Wehrdienst auf 6 Monate kürzen. Im ersten Moment scheint dies ein anregender Gedanke zu sein. Leider nur im ersten Moment.

Zum Wehrdienst gibt es im Grunde zwei Positionen. Entweder man ist dafür oder dagegen. Ist man dafür, dann deshalb, weil man denkt, dass ein Land eine Armee braucht, dass diese sich aber nicht freiwillig rekrutieren lässt, weshalb man die jungen Männer dazu bringen muss. In diesem Fall aber ist man Befürworter von bewaffneten fähigen Armeen und nicht von Hilfsbataillonen ohne Vorkenntnisse. Wenn eine militärische Aubildung auf 6 Monate schrumpft, haben die zukünftigen Soldaten dann überhaupt die Chance, sich mit den Methoden, Ideen, Verhaltensweisen der Armee auseinanderzusetzen?

Ist man nun gegen die Bundeswehr oder aber zumindest kritisch gegenüber dem System von Armeen und den daraus möglichen Kriegen eingestellt, hatte man bisher immer noch die Chance, Zivildienst zu leisten. Nun ist aber fraglich, ob ein junger Mann, dem das Auszeitjahr sowieso schon lästig ist, sich für einen Zivildienst entscheiden möchte, wenn die Zeit bei der Bundeswehr halbiert wird. Die termporäre Differenz zwischen Zivildienst und Wehrdienst spielt heute schon eine große Rolle, dabei handelt es sich nur um wenige Monate. Das Argument, dass Zivis sowieso kaum im sozialen Sektor gebraucht würden, finde ich in diesem Sinn auch nicht tragbar. Schließlich geht es um Ideale und Grundeinstellungen, wenn man sich für den Zivildienst entscheidet, und nicht um den Nutzen für den Staat. Und diese Ideale sehe ich in Gefahr, wenn man den Dienst einseitig kürzt.

Da nun also weder dem Freund noch dem Gegner der Bundeswehr diese Kürzung etwas taugt, frage ich mich, was sind die wahren Gründe einer solchen Entscheidung. Und wieder einmal lande ich bei den finanziellen Mitteln. Denn hat eine Bundeswehr etwas von schlechter ausgebildeten Soldaten? Eben nicht. Aber der Staat hat etwas davon, wenn er Wehrdienstler künftig kürzen ernähren, unterbringen, versorgen muss. Es handelt sich um finanzielle Sparmaßnahmen, die aber nur kurzfristig Freude bringen.

In diesem Fall sollte sich die Regierung vielleicht eher überlegen, ob man dieses System der Soldaten-Rekrutierung nicht gegen einen freiwilligen Wehrdienst eintauschen sollte, bei dem dann weniger antreten, die aber richtig ausgebildet werden. Ob der Zivildienst in diesem Fall dann auch nicht besser in das System des Freiwilligen Sozialen Jahrs übergehen sollte, wäre dann die zweite Überlegung.

Hallo und Willkommen auf meinem Blog,

bis es wirklich weltwaaerts geht, ist es zwar noch einige Zeit bis hin, aber dennoch geht es schon so langsam in die Vorbereitungsphase und die nähere Beschäftigung mit dem weltwaerts-Programm, möglichen Organisationen, möglichen Ländern und den jetzt schon zum Teil ablaufenden Bewerbungsfristen.

- Wer überlegt im nächste Frühjahr nach dem Abi, nach der Schule, als Zivildienstersatz ein soziales Jahr im Ausland zu verbringen, der sollte sich jetzt unbedingt schlau machen !!-

Der ein oder andere mag jetzt vielleicht das erste Mal von dem weltwaerts-Programm oder einem sozialen Jahr gehört haben. Daher möchte ich hier eine kurze Beschreibung des Programms und anderer Möglichkeiten geben.

Das weltwaerts-Programm ist ein von der Regierung geförderter entwicklungspoltischer Freiwilligendienst des Bundesministeriums für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung ( kurz: BMZ ), welcher sich an junge Menschen zwischen 18 und 28 Jahren richtet.

Der Teilnehmer, wird in Entwicklungsländern in Projekten für eine Dauer von 6 bis 24 Monaten aktiv sein.

Im Regelfall beträgt dieser allerdings häufig, von beim Träger weltwaerts anerkannten Organisationen, 12 Monate, welches auch für mich zutreffend ist, da ich dieses Programm als Zivildienstersatz leisten möchte. Dem sogenannten “Anderen Dienst im Ausland”(ADIA).

Der Einsatz in Projekten ist in den folgenden Bereichen möglich:

• Bildung
• Gesundheit
• Landwirtschaft
• Not- und Übergangshilfe
• Umweltschutz
• Wasser
• Menschenrechte
• Demokratieförderung
• Jugendbeschäftigung
• Sport
• Ernährungssicherung

Als Alternativprogramm, gibt es noch das freiwillige-soziale Jahr, welches auch ein soziales Engagement in Nicht-Entwicklungsländern ermöglicht.

Dies kommt für mich allerdings nicht in Frage, da ich mein soziales-Jahr gerne in einer Entwicklungsregion erleben möchte und das weltwarts-Programm vom BMZ finanziell zu 75% unterstützt wird und somit ein maximaler Kostenaufwand von 150 € monatlich auftritt, der im Idealfall vom sogenannten Förderkreis gezahlt wird.

D.h. ich als weltwaerts-Teilnehmer suche in meiner nähren Umgebung Förderer für das weltwaerts-Jahr

KUE left the decision to book a flight, whether by them or by myself, to me. Many of us chose the flight which was offered by KUE. But that flight was overprized and required stops in Bahrain and in Bangkok.

Hence I searched on Internet for a cheaper and more convenient one. I found the most suitable option after a few minutes. What’s more this preference granted me a free baggage allowance of 38 kg. That was good to have – coz I carried along two bags of German chocolate and candy.

I arrived on time after a trouble free short stop in Bangkok, obtained my Visa at the Immigration office desk and picked up my bags from the baggage claim. To my surprise I didn’t see any of the other volunteers who should have landed just a few minutes earlier than me. So I headed alone to the meeting area. I was warmly welcomed by a friendly young Vietnamese man. He drove me to Nguyen Trai University.

There I was introduced to my coordinator Lan. She explained that the other volunteers had missed their connection flight in Bahrain and stuck there for one day. Therefore we postponed the introduction day and I was unexpectedly free. That day I met my old Vietnamese friends.

The private university was founded in 2008. Its main office is in Ladeco Building, a high rise in the heart of Ba Dinh District. The sight from one of the teaching rooms points to Westlake. The lake is surrounded by traditional quarters and new modern Skyscrapers. Motorcycles dwarf from this height. The university is investing in the 340.000 m2 Nguyen Trai educational complex at Ha Dong District and will move to it after completion.

“Nguyen Trai University is striving to become one of the top universities in Viet Nam and the region by achieving international standards in education programs and delivery. It aims at all-round personal development of students with high moral, intellectual, professional standards and sound physical and aesthetic capability, dedicated to the service of the society.”

The schedule doesn’t keep me too busy with just four hours of Vietnamese lessons a day. But the timetable is rather inconvenient with a four hours lunch break. We additionally teach English at Ha Thanh High School. Further projects are in planning and will follow shortly.

The new semester starts this week. Roughly 200 new students will begin their studies at NTU. We will guide and assist them.

Contrary to the original planning we don’t stay in host families yet. All volunteers live in a house 15 minutes afar My Dinh bus station. Either two or three people share a room. The furnishing is reduced to what is absolutely necessary; a thin small foam mattress. (It was worn out after a few days)

We are still young so I don’t complain. However I cannot even think of easy sleep. Our house is opposite the local cultural house. The squawking loudspeaker announcement starts every day at 5.30. At around 6 o’clock people come to play volleyball on the adjoining field.

Therefore my day starts early. The neighboring village offers a sufficient number of delicious Vietnamese street food. We cover the distance to university on foot and by bus in approximately 60 minutes. Though, I prefer the motorbike instead. My aged but fast Honda Dream II takes me to my workplace in 15 minutes.

I am on good terms with the other volunteers. We undertake a lot in the spare time. We also have close contact to the students of our university. We invited them on occasion of mid-autumn festival to our house. We cooked Vietnamese and German specialties and had a great but short time.

The weather is typical for Ha Noi. Some days it is hot and humid other days rainy. The smog irritates the respiratory tract. Accordingly all of us got ill in no time.

Wunderbar, ein schönes freies Wochenende und jetzt noch ein freier Montag. So lass ich mir das gefallen Die ersten beiden Wochen Arbeit waren ja schon recht chaotisch, in der ersten sollte man erstmal eingearbeitet werden. Aber wenn man schon mitten drin ist, ist nicht viel mit Einarbeiten Dadurch wurde ich mehr oder weniger ins kalte Wasser geworfen, aber ich denke ich hab es trotzdem ganz gut gestemmt.

Donnerstag bekam ich dann einen Anruf aus Hannover. Ob ich meine Seminartermine nochmal umlegen könnte wäre die Frage und als Antwort bekam ich “Nächsten Montag gehts los”. Was ein Glück das ich recht spontan sein kann wenn ich will… Ich muss ehrlich gestehen das ich zuerst überlegt habe ob ich hinfahre, irgendwie hatte ich nicht besonders Lust und dann noch die ungewissheit wie die Leute so drauf sind. Dann dachte ich aber, das es auch dumm wäre wenn ich erst zum zweiten Seminar da auftauche und dann kennen sich schon alle und dann bist du der depp der neu dazu kommt.

Und ich habe es absolut nicht bereut hinzufahren. Ich hab selten 30 Leute getroffen die ich auf anhieb so sympatisch gefunden habe. Wir haben uns denke ich dort alle sehr gut verstanden und konnten auch über Dinge reden die schief gelaufen sind ohne jemanden an den Pranger zu stellen. Sowas hat man nicht oft.

Wirklich aktiv habe ich allerdings noch nichts auf der Arbeit gemacht, was mit Kindern und/oder Jugendlichen zu tun hatte. Bisher war ich nur ein Bürostuhlakrobat, aber das ändert sich diese Woche definitiv wieder.

It’s been an absence of eight months; time to revive my blog. Here are a few lines to abstract the recent months since my return last winter. I was employed by my company for four months. But I left Germany for Viet Nam another time in April. I was warmly welcomed and quick settled in. I supported a few smaller projects and spent the remaining time with Vietnamese as well as International friends. I discovered Ha Long Bay and went to Cua Lo for bathing. My Visa expired after three months and I had to leave Viet Nam. I took the plane to Thailand, stayed there for one week, and then headed home.

The exchange year hasn’t changed, surprisingly, my German daily life. I remember well my recommencement. It is an undeniable fact that I feel great in my familiar environment. However I found myself thinking back about Viet Nam. Some German companions who also volunteered in Viet Nam experienced a similar sentiment. Hence we decided to meet again in Germany. It was easier said than done in a group of different regional provenance and crammed schedules. We finally agreed on a long weekend in March. We’ve had a cracking good time and we felt like in the good old VN-days. Moreover we even cooked Vietnamese dishes; Bun Cha and Nem. It is rather simple to shop for these ingredients in Germany on account of our migrants. What a coincidence! The owners of the next “Asia-Shop” were Vietnamese and open for a chat in Vietnamese with us, too.

Life is a succession of lessons, which must be lived to be understood. I grew up in a society where people let others live freely. Live and let live. However, my second home is Viet Nam. I was up for volunteering once more. Hence I sorted the wide range of opportunities and applied at some organizations. An important criterion of the nonpaid voluntary service is the coverage of board and lodging. The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany launched the “weltwärts” development volunteers program in 2008. “Learning by serving” is the motto of the volunteers’ service. It promotes the exchange between North and South in this way.

“Encounters between North and South help to promote understanding for one another. And this is particularly true when participants have prepared well for these encounters. In Germany, there are several programs enabling young people to get involved in development activities and get to know other ways of life. These programs are not about giving adventurous globetrotters a travel grant. In seminars, program participants are prepared thoroughly for their encounter with the foreign country. They also look at the opportunities and limits of their own involvement and think about what they themselves and their partners abroad expect from the encounter. And even before the trip, plans are made for participants to share their experience with people in Germany after they return. The young people themselves thus become “multipliers”, sharing their experience and engaging in development education work.” (Source BMZ)

Quite a few German organizations are assigned to run this service. I have signed the contract with the child and development aid association (KUE) for 6 months. I will assist at the Vietnamese-German vocational training center of Nguyen Trai University (NTU). Our volunteer group amounts to 18 boys and girls. Sixteen run services at NTU and two at a publishing company. Each of us will stay in a host family.

I’m already looking forward to my upcoming tasks. Particularly with regard to come up to one’s expectations. I have booked the flight for the 13^th of September and arrive one day later in Ha Noi. Henceforward my blog undergoes a change in the frequency of publishing new reports. I will post once a month instead of twice as in the past. I’m out of here, will pack my suitcase and see some of you in the coming days.
