Finalmente in Snow Leopard (credo che in Leopard non ci fosse) c’è la possibilità di aprire QuickLook direttamente in modalità tuttoschermo. Questo è molto comodo in caso di PDF ad esempio. Se dobbiamo cambiare spesso file evitiamo così di dover ingrandire ogni volta l’anteprima, e basterà, in caso vogliamo allestire una piccola presentazione di immagini, selezionarle tutte quante e aprirle a tutto schermo con QuickLook perché parta automaticamente lo scorrimento delle immagini.

Per aprire QuickLook in modalità a tutto schermo basterà usare la combinazione di tasti “alt”+”spazio” al posto del solo “spazio”.

Sicuramente non è uno dei browser più conosciuti e performanti, ma ho provato PlainView e mi sento di consigliarvelo, non come unico browser magari ma per affiancare i più famosi Safari e Firefox.

Ad un mio primo test si è rivelato abbastanza veloce e ha supportato perfettamente diversi tipi di pagine senza problemi ma non sono certo questi i punti di forza di questo modo diverso di navigare.

Il punto di forza è sicuramente la navigazione a tutto schermo che rende la nostra esperienza molto più completa isolandoci da tutto quello che può distrarci. Anche il design necessariamente minimalista (niente barra degli indirizzi, preferiti o quant’altro, tutto si apre a richiesta su finestre flottanti) è molto particolare.

Per chi mette il proprio computer a disposizione di altre persone per navigare abbiamo anche la funzione kiosk che blocca la possibilità di accedere al resto del computer e lascia disponibile solo PlainView, comodissimo!

Flash Game Maximizer is a great new Firefox add-on which maximizes flash content to the entire browser window with just one click of a button. This from the developer:

“Click a button or hit the hot-key to maximize (almost) any Flash content to the entire browser window. You can then enjoy your favorite games in any size you like, simply by resizing the browser window.”

Works very well with Firefox v3.0 to v3.5.

With support for emerging web standards in HTML 5 and CSS3, topflight built in developer tools, fast performance, and the other 150 new features packed into its Snow Leopard release, Safari is now the only browser left on my dock.

After reading through David’s great tips for supercharging Safari, I was inspired to pimp out my own install and came across two tweaks I thought I’d share. They aren’t plugins, but instead involve some “under the hood” changes to enable full screen browsing and to force new window links to open up as tabs instead.

Changing Preference Files and PlistEditPro

Both of these tweaks involve editing Safari’s preference files. There are a couple of different ways you could go about doing this, but the best approach, in my opinion, is to use this handy little free PlistEdit Pro application. There are a ton of hidden gems in preference files and this little app makes exploring them dead simple.

Setting Up Full Screen Browsing

When I’m on my laptop, screen real estate matters, so my brother tipped me to this little trick he uses on his Hackintosh Dell Mini 9 to force the menu bar and dock to slide off the screen and fully zoom the window.

• Right click on the Safari application and choose show contents to expose the Info.plist file.
• Add an entry for the key “Application UI Presentation Mode” and set its value as “All Suppressed.”

This will force the dock and menu bar to slide off the screen whenever Safari is the selected application. Mousing up to the edges of the screen will slide them back on so you can still access menu items or the dock as needed.

Now create a bookmark to fully zoom the window to take advantage of all this newly available space on the screen.

• Add a new bookmark called TrueZoom and in the address field put this handy little javascript: javascript:self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);.
• Then create another called UnZoom and use this bit of javascript in the address: javascript:self.resizeTo(900,600);window.moveTo(200,200).

If these two are the first two bookmarks then you can use ⌘1 and ⌘2 respectively to go big and return to normal.

Force Tabs

As I tend to use the Spaces feature in Leopard to separate out my work (markup stuff in one space, email and IM in another, twitter and news reader in another, etc.), I like to have a separate browser window to go along with each space. This helps me keep my browsing organized, but when links start making additional windows, things get messy. So, forcing those links to open up as tabs instead is an easy fix.

• Open up the com.apple.safari.plist file, you’ll find that in ~/Library/Preferences.
• Check the box for the “TargetedClicksCreateTabs” key.

Now everything stays in its own window and my spaces stay nice and tidy.

With these final tweaks, plus a couple of the plugins mentioned by David in his post I’ve got my Safari almost exactly how I want it. If you have your own favorite “under the hood” tweak for Safari, share it in the comments. I’d love to hear it.

If ANYONE knows how this is done. Please let me know… I have a massive monitor. And you can still see eyelashes up full screen.

This app was designed for s60v3 but it works with our s60v5. It’s free and the developer doesn’t update it anymore. Still, it’s quite an awesome app. It beats Handy Shell easily and can be used even while handy shell is running.

Instructions:
1. Extract files and install gdesk with all the plugins.
2. Install Scarface by mowmo (attached)
3. Move my designs to your memory card. D
4. Run GDesk
5. Tap on bottom right corner
6. Tap on Design
7. Tap on load design, select E:/
8. Load my designs and Enjoy!

Instructions on how to run Shell and Gdesk simultaneously:

1. Open Handy shell
2. Click on options
3. Tap on keys
4. Select Red key closes current app
5. Select exceptions
6. Add GDesk

How to make GDesk your standby screen:

1. Run GDesk
2. Tap on bottom right corner or any other BLANK space
3. Select options
4. Select Full Screen
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3
6. Select Replace Main. YOu’re done now.

The recent change in my firefox is it always opens in full screen mode hiding the GNOME start bar and the status bar at the bottom. This happened after trying to upgrade some of its features through update manager.
The fix for this is simple just go to full screen by pressing F11 and then pressing F11 again to return to normal mode

This week, in our Linux Page (in Spanish) , we posted a brief  post to focus your attention on Cooliris in its, not well known, Linux version. In fact on Linux, you are not always allowed to install directly Cooliris as Firefox add-on and the same happens when you try to install Cooliris using the Firefox Add-on official webpage   In this case, the only solution we have, is represented by surfing on the Cooliris homepage and click on the Linux version in the Downloads Page. The xpi file will be immediately opened and in just few clicks it is installed. Cooliris allows you to search videos, images and photographs in many sites (Google Image Search, YouTube, Flickr, Hulu, online retailers, and other sites), watch them on a 3D wallpaper or on a full-screen slideshow using the toggle button. This program contains also an interesting bunch of channels as News, Sport, Photos of the day, Music Videos, Comedy, etc.. UsingCooliris you can also share your multimedia stuff with friends or keep them in your Favorites. At the moment this Linux version of Cooliris runs on Firefox 3.1+ using Ubuntu 8.04+, Fedora 10.0+ or OpenSuse 11+. Recommended!

A few weeks back I found a great full screen text editor that is both light-weight and easy to use.

It rids you of all the distractions when you have to type articles, essays, posts, or simply just notes.

It is greatly customisable and it even comes in portable versions with the choice of spell checking features.

The first task I had to do when I started developing my first Windows CE application was to make my main program window appear in full screen mode. After some research I came across a small article posted on Code Project. It describes a method of showing a window in full screen mode using standard window management calls which is what I was looking for. I completed the source with proper definitions of system calls and structures. I provide this source code along with a basic test application.

            The usual method of doing this would have been to use SHFullScreen, but I was not able to use this function as my OS Design was not to contain aygshell.dll, the library from which this function was part of.

            I am developing under .NET Compact Framework 2.0.

            First, I had to define some useful enums containing constants of the Windows API. Here are some of them, for the rest please see the attached project as this post would grow unreasonably if I pasted them here.

            A very useful thing to do is to check www.pinvoke.net and retrieve the values of certain constants that you would make use of in various situations.

            The first method, StartFullScreen, hides the SIP( Standard Input Panel ), the SIP button bar and the task bar leaving the entire screen to be filled by the application window. The application window’s size is set to the size of the entire screen in SetWindowPos. It’s that simple!

            When you want to exit full screen mode, you need to show the task bar, get the size of the client work area, specified with Spi.SPI_GETWORKAREA and then calculated the new size of the window( it would appear as a maximized window on your screen ).

The proper question here may be to ask why big developers don’t like going full screen in Mac OS X…but whatever.

I’m on my Windows 7 side of the Macbook right now, which I’ll admit I kind of dig once in a while (I’m actually using it right now to produce a brochure in Publisher, but that’s beside the point right now). And while yes, as an Apple fanboy of sorts I sort of hate Windows at times there’s one feature that I’ve always come to love: full-screen support. You see it in Office, you see it in IE, you see it in Firefox. As long as any developer codes for it, people will have the option. In fact I’m writing this post in full-screen in FF3 right now.

So why don’t Apple products use it, such as Safari? Granted iWork recently implemented it in Pages, but to me it’s almost the same as DarkRoom (or whatever that product was called). There’s no real intuitive way to bring up formatting options (as far as I knew…prove me wrong here). But you don’t see it in Safari, and that’s a shame. In addition, Office 2008 does not possess one application where full screen is an option. The only application that I have that does a full-screen is NetNewsWire, which actually proves useful when I have a second monitor because I set my MB monitor to be my “news desktop” of sorts. Really neat.

I’m not a programmer, so there might be some logistics that I don’t exactly know of. In addition, some traditional fanboys may claim that full-screen doesn’t show the beauty of the Mac OS X OS, which is undoubtedly true. But sometimes we need just unobstructed workspaces at times. Not to mention, FF in full-screen is very minimalist, which I dig a lot.
