Ehrm…whaaa? *streeeeetch*

Oh, hi there. Sorry, I’m just a leeeeeeeettle bit WIPED OUT.

You know how some people think it’s crazy to get up at 3 a.m. to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving? Well, yeah. It is. But what’s even CRAZIER than that…

…is then turning right around the NEXT morning to wake up at 4 a.m. or so, and hopping in a car to drive SIX HOURS up to San Francisco. And what’s MORE ridiculous? Is the fact that I’m only going for one night, then turning right back around tomorrow for another long drive home.

So this is me, at 6 in the morning, reminding you lest you forget, that I?

Am OUT OF MY MIND.

But it’s all good. Because with this trip, I am about to cross off TWO of my 101 things to do before August 8, 2012. That’s right. Numbers 17 and 73 are getting checked off. But really, that’s just a minor bonus to the simple fact that I’m about to embark on a mini-adventure with my fabulous friend (who also happens to be one of my fabulous bridesmaids!) Megan.

Anyway, sorry for another shortish post, but I’m pretty sure that when I get home tomorrow, I will be itching to write a novel about completing my first two items from the 101 in 1001 list. And also about all the crazy shenanigans Megan and I are sure to get ourselves into.

Because there are ALWAYS shenanigans when you put the two of us together in a car, bus, plane, room, time zone, universe…you get the picture.

For my second Rock Star workshop, Casey came from New Orleans to spend the day with me learning about photography! We instantly clicked, and we had a WONDERFUL day talking about everything from shooting in manual to picking the right lenses to Photoshop, and much much more!

I had my good friends Dave & Katie model for us, and they did a fantastic job! I was so excited about these shots, I couldn’t wait to blog them!! Enjoy!

So we got up this morning at 3:00 for year two of Black Friday shopping with John and Kelly (my brother-in-law and soon-to-be sister-in-law!) — we made it to our first stop, JC Penney, by 4:00 and finished shopping right around 10:30, I think. Then, after brunch and a long nap, we woke up at 5:00 p.m. — right when it started getting dark. Except it FELT like it very well could have been morning again, and it wouldn’t have surprised me to see the sky begin to get lighter rather than darker.

Needless to say, it has been a FULL, fun, and very disorienting day. It’s 8:00 p.m. now and I really need to try to get to sleep soon, because I have another early morning ahead of me.

Which I will tell you more about…tomorrow.

For now, I’m just checking in, sticking to NaBloPoMo for the fourth-t0-last day, and hoping you all had a splendid Thanksgiving and, if you were as crazy as me, a successful Black Friday extravaganza!

It’s the day after Thanksgiving and I’m still feeling kinda sluggish… sounds like a bowling kinda day .

So, me and a few of my peeps headed over to North Bowl, which is located in the Northern Liberties section of Philly. Now, when you think bowling ally the word cute rarely comes to mind. But, North Bowl is extremely cute. Bright and clean with pictures of The Dude displayed proudly.

Even the shoes were a delight! I’m sure they are not any cleaner than your average bowling foot wear, but these were fairly new and had Velcro straps…. ooooh fancy! My feet had never been so excited to get their bowl on. They were so comfy I almost forgot I had them on and walked out with them.

And there is nothing like a healthy lunch that consists of tater tots. In this case it was tater tots covered in Cheddar cheese, sour cream, scallions and bacon… yup, I hate myself .  It’s fine, I must have bowled off most of those calories, right? RIGHT? Moving on…

Anyway, we did do some actual bowling…

If you can’t read the score, it says Lauren 61, Colleen (me) 49, Steph 71 and Jimbo (James) 64. Ugh! This was the worst game ever! There was a small child in the lane next to us that had twice the scores that we had in our tenth frames and he was only in his sixth . Fail. In our defence he did have the bumpers up.

And the scores didn’t get any better in our second game either… I think I did worse! Actually I know I did worse. I completely gave up and started pitching the ball down the ally lefty style. I may have even kicked it at some point… can we say sore loser?

Apparently I wasn’t the only one who was done trying. By the end of our second game it was time to call it quits before someone started throwing his shoes in fits of rage (I’m not pointing any fingers).

So, it’s the day after Thanksgiving.. Black Friday, if you will.. and I am at work doing a live shot about how much fun all the regular people get to have on their OFF DAY shopping at the mall. I’m actually a TV news reporter IRL. The news never takes a holiday so I worked yesterday and today. I missed all the sales and had what was probably the worst turkey day ever. I didn’t get to see my family. I had to work. I was supposed to be fed at work FOR FREE. They usually have a nice spread, but no. They sent me two hours away shortly after I got in. So I missed the free meal and ended up spending $14 on a terrible meal from Golden Corral. The turkey meat was processed. The dressing was horrible. The cranberry sauce? I had to scrape it out of the bottom of the container. So I didn’t eat it. Obviously that meant a million people had already been through it. The rolls were hard- how the hell do you mess up those rolls? The only thing I had to look forward to was spending time with hubby and the dog… and playing Warcraft when I got home. Ahh, sweet therapy. Kill stuff.

If only the in-game Pilgrim’s Bounty food were real. Roasted turkey, cranberry chutney, spice bread stuffing, sweet potatoes…. YUM. My DK cooked up a bunch last night just to get her cooking skill up. If I had the time this year, maybe I would have attempted the same in real life. Anyhoo.. I am feeling a little better now. I will be a-okay after this live shot and when my weekend begins.

I do have a lot to be thankful for. I am married to a wonderful man who loves me AND my little bitch of a dog. My parents are still married and living and blessed. My sister and her husband are working on a baby! (YAY!) We are all employed and able to meet our needs. And every now and then we get the stuff we want. The last two days, I have not gotten everything I wanted, but I am thankful nonetheless.

And tonight, after I clock out, I’ll go home, spend time with my immediate fam, and then log on. kill stuff. yay.

CRITICAL MASS
San Diego. Fall 09

  Canada Safeway has put a rush order on 3,000 watermelons to be shipped to Calgary stores in preparation for the Grey Cup this Sunday. With thousands of Roughrider fans arriving in Calgary this week, there is suddenly a large demand for watermelons. The watermelon helmet seems to have worked its way into being a part of the traditional Saskatchewan Roughrider gear a few years ago. According to people with the Roughriders organization, fans started donning these hollowed-out watermelons after a Riders TV commercial showed a man carving a melon helmet.

Saskatchewan Roughrider fans have been called the “greatest football fans in the world.” Make sure you put on your green & white, and cheer loud and proud as Saskatchewan and Montreal face off against each other for the first time to win the Grey Cup on Sunday, November 29th, 2010.

Ne sentivamo veramente l’esigenza. O meglio, io ne sentivo l’esigenza, non so voi. E siccome non sono riuscito a trovare niente di sufficientemente intelligente-ironico-sagace-aggiornato sull’argomento, ho deciso che il momento per me di condividere lo scibile è arrivato: una guida al dating online (prevalentemente per gay, ma un po’ per tutti) in dieci (o meno, o più, dipende dalla mia voglia) lezioni. Perchè? Perchè davvero, dal profondo del cuore, le cose per cui ridere/piangere sono tante, sono troppe, perchè io non le scriva e/o ridicolizzi. E’ quasi un dovere morale. E un po’ è un dovere mortale. Mortale come la noia che regna sovrana. Per cui, iniziamo con la prima lezione.

La lingua

Okay, lo so già a che cosa state pensando. No, “lingua” non sta per “gioco di lingua” o “posso far rotolare i dadi con la lingua” (citazione dotta). Lingua sta per quella cosa un po’ dimenticata con la quale si scrivono i profili online. Che siano due righe di presentazione, o un papiello di una pagina e mezza, le lingue sui siti di dating italiani sono solo e soltanto due, vale a dire: l’itagliano e l’anglese.

L’itagliano

Bene, vediamo di capirci. L’itagliano è una lingua piuttosto complessa. Principalmente consiste nell’usare parole prese dall’italiano e mischiarle con lettere provenienti da altri alfabeti (vedasi a tal proposito, il cirillico, il morse e il bimbominkiese). Non ci sono tante regole nell’itagliano (e si vede), non esiste una consecutio temporum, il congiuntivo è totalmente abolito, e trionfano lettere come “x”, “k”, “j”, “w”, “y” (spesso proprio in questo ordine). Volentieri, l’itagliano consente a chi lo usa di esprimere diversi concetti in un solo periodo. Si veda ad esempio: “Molta gente nun sta bene con la testa non sa cosa vuole dalla vita si pensano che facendo e volendo solo sesso e amici hanno risolto tutto ma nel frattempo il tempo passa gli anni passano e che avete seminato? NULLAAA”. Si cerca ancora di tradurre questo passo, ma aimè, la linguistica fatica. Si legga a tal proposito: “sn una persona simpatica cordiale estroversa e brillante a cui vale la pena conoscere credetemi” e ancora: “non saprei che scrivere meglio conosciersi (…) io credetemi non ho idea di cio che scrivere“, oppure ecco un caso in cui lo stesso verbo in posizioni diverse dovrebbe assumere due significati diversi invece ne ha solo uno (e non si capisce neanche tanto bene quale): “non smettere mai di credere in quello che si crede“.

Il bello dell’itagliano però è che è pienissimo di creatività. Come nel caso di: “Ho mollato per un po ma adex ho voglia di nuovi d rinnamorarmi…quindi fatevi avanti…NN MANGIO MICA“, “eccomi qua come tanti altri,pero con una raggione in piu” (forse sarà quella G?), “spero ke non mi fate rimpiangere milano” (evidentemente a Milano non si usa in congiuntivo). Basta navigare un po’ per capire che questa lingua è davvero molto, molto difficile da capire.

L’anglese

L’anglese, come dice la parola stessa, è uno strano mix di itagliano e la celebre lingua inglese. Se ne trovano esempi un po’ dappertutto, qui segnaliamo gli abominevoli: “warning man to relation it” (troppo d’avanguardia anche solo per cercare d’essere tradotto), “what is important and above all is communication and mutual sympathy” (basta un vocabolario qualsiasi per venire a conoscenza del fatto che SYMPATHY vuol dire EMPATIA, COMPASSIONE e non SIMPATIA), “at the end of Decemberry” (mese di fantasia in cui evidentemente crescono le fragole anche con la neve).

Ora voi mi direte: ma che ci importa della lingua? Ebbene io vi dirò: se vi siete iscritti ad un sito per incontri online è perchè si presuppone che vogliate trovarvi un uomo. Un uomo, capito bene? E che genere di uomo è per voi uno che non sa coniugare il verbo essere? Che genere di uomo è quello che è talmente pigro da eliminare tutte le vocali dalla parola “perchè” fino a ridurla a “xk”? Che genere di uomo è quello che scrive come mangia (vedi sopra) o, ancora peggio, parla (vedi sempre sopra)? Ve lo dico io che genere è: il genere di uomo che voi NON volete.

Botta e risposta – #1

Al termine di ogni lezione, ci taglieremo un angolino per rispondere personalmente agli affronti che leggiamo online. V’è mai capitato di leggere qualcosa a cui, dentro di voi, avete risposto, anche in malo modo? Bene, bravi. Ecco, facciamolo sul serio.

“Contengo in Me una Bestia, un Angelo e un Pazzo” – e stai messo proprio bene.
“sincerita per una relazione stabile” – arisa.
“Tutto e il contrario di esso…” – esso chi? tu? lui? io? loro? noi? voi? esso?
“E se fosse anche questa l’ennesima perdita d tempo?” – è molto probabile che lo sia.
“Incrociamo le strade e vediamo cosa succede!” – ma non erano le dita?

It’s the blog equivilant of “snackage”. I’m not sure exactly what it means, but I like the sound of it.

OK, well I feel somewhat guilty for not having blogged about anything since my last post of whiney introspection. Honestly, I’m doing better by way of health and such. I drink nutritional drinks everyday full of protein, vitamins and something that makes it sort of taste of chocolate. They are expensive, but keep me alive and alert. I also finally got my new glasses! They are 50% weaker- meaning I see 50% clearer than I did with my old glasses, which were too strong. I’m near-sighted and far-sighted, so I will be getting a second pair of glasses just for reading made out of my old frames. My new frames are super-snazzy though. I feel more creative just wearing them. They look like creative-person glasses. Whoo.

So, as for artsy-things, not much progress as far as inspiration. I made a painterly-esque CG portrait of Neo-Nana, a personification of my desktop PC, who I originally designed as a vector doll to practice my skills. I have yet to design her clothing, which will be a mix of Sweet Lolita Fashion and Cyber Punk. Lots of black, lots of lace, and LOTS of cute. It should be fun~ I haven’t designed such an in-depth character in a while. She also has three little sidekicks (her mice, since my computer has 3) but I haven’t made official designs for them as-of-yet.

Also, this year instead of making a usual wishlist or telling people to get me whatever, I threw together a quick Holiday page on my Google sites page that lists my favorite colors and things that I wouldn’t mind owning. I also included on the page a link to my Amazon wishlist, for people who prefer just working from that.

As for myself, this season I am making CUBECATS! Yes, Cubecats, my own little adorable creation. Cubecats are about 1″x1″ in size, white or blue (depending on whether they are tofu cubes or ice cubes) and have little ears and tails. I am making a large number of them out of white felt and a few larger ones out of off-white fleece. I’m not a great seamstress and I make a lot of time-consuming mistakes, but I still love working on them. And I hope people will like receiving them. For my far-away friends, I’ll be designing papercraft versions that resemble this one except there will be different versions and sizes. (And maybe some extras…hmmmn),
