A house of small surfaces with resonable costs, targeted to an audience searching for concrete and innovative solutions. The quality of a space does not depend on the dimensions and design furniture does not necessarily imply a budget for a few. The Poliform house is based on a simple architectural project, in which kitchen, bedroom and bathroom become a whole with the living area that overlooks the terrace. The fulcrum of the project is represented by the completeness of the furnishing project: day zone, kitchen, bed and elements for the night zone were carefully selected from Poliform and Varenna collections. Each choise, each detail is the result of a deep functional analysis. But our private world also needs some beauty. That is why the stylistic aspect has not been missed out: the Poliform house has been created with the contribution of designers like Marcel Wanders, Paola Navone, Roberto Barbieri and Carlo Colombo. This initiative reverses common preconceives and becomes an example of a responsible and accessible conception of interior design.

Petter Thörne and Anders Johnsson both Swedish in their origin are what we could call ‘good designers but equally good entrepreneurs’. Having only graduated from Konstfack, Stochkholm this Spring, the design duo have managed to make their work known in the world of design firstly through their university final project ‘the mold chair’ which received wide media coverage but also through other projects of equal interest such as the Muutos 2009 award-winning ‘KEEP’ dining table. The distinction of the designers’ work in their previous conceptions has been that besides the innovation and simple lines, the pieces of furniture created were made of waste materials and discarded wood from past furniture production. This not only allows the market to carry well designed but also environment friendly products.

Went to the curtains shop today, and fell in love with these fabrics. There are hundreds to choose from, but I love the classic-ness of the stripes. There’s also a subtle shimmer/sheen to them. Florals will probably be too dated.

Upcycling is a term coined by William McDonaugh and Michael Braungart, it is when an item that is no longer needed or wanted in it’s current state or purpose is adapted, updated and renovated into a new, refreshing and exciting product.

The chairs that my grandad gave me were about to get upcycled!

Country cottage style

I set about sanding them down and re-painting them in lighter colours. The first I painted messily with white paint, I wanted it to have an antique look, weathered and care worn. I recovered the cushions and made a simple slip on cover for the chair back, this can be easily slipped off and washed. The seat cover needs to be stapled to the seat so that it is secure and stays in place.

After you have made a choice regarding the type of bassinet that you require for your nursery, its time that you start searching for baby bassinet bedding In addition to being comfortable to the baby, it would sit pretty in the room as well. There is no denying the fact that the baby bassinet bedding that is provided with the bassinet itself looks nice as well. The baby bassinet bedding that you got is however never sufficient in itself.

Even if you already have a baby crib in your home, nursery furniture or baby furniture items, you still need a baby bassinet bedding , to ensure the complete safety of your little one.

1.	If you already have any theme decoration in your nursery like Gingham, why not go for a matching Gingham baby bassinet bedding set to give it a suave effect. Use colored Gingham ribbons and the like to make nursery more charming.
2.	If you are looking for designer accessories for the bassinet of your baby, like mattresses, pads, baby bassinet beddings and liners, you should ideally opt for the experts like Maddie Boo, Hoohobbers or Sleeping Partners.
3.	Baby bassinet toile bedding sets are rapidly gaining in popularity, and you should try them too. The round baby bassinet bedding toile set is also another option that can be considered. With the bedding, you will get the bassinet hood, skirt, the liner and the mattress – all together in the set. You can use these products for your baby, until the time (s)he is old enough to turn over.
4.	Right from the baby bassinet bedding to the cover for the bassinet, Baby Bassinet Deals come with the entire range of accessories.

Innovative ideas are generally of great value, while purchasing a new baby bassinet bedding for your baby. It is not always necessary to make huge changes to make your baby bassinet bedding completely look new. It is only natural that you would be looking for the best product for your beloved little one. Hence, you can also try out the baby Moses basket, the travel bassinet and the combo bassinet set, along with the baby bassinet bedding. You are sure to find something in just the right shape and style that goes perfectly well with your baby bassinet bedding.

Are you in possession of a round baby bassinet in your nursery? You can also find a baby bassinet bedding, that would be properly suited to this as well.

Do remember that having just one set of baby bassinet bedding is never going to be enough. And since you have to consider getting extra sets, why not be a bit creative here? Here’s your opportunity to get some fresh and bright baby bassinet bedding to light up your room.

And… we’re back! With a story from Cara of Casa Cara about how she repurposed most of the items in her living room:

When I bought this cottage in May ‘09, there were 15 or 16 pieces in the house and basement that I’ve kept and used, including a 1930s stick rattan sofa I painted and fitted out with cushions from Restoration Hardware, a Gothic-style cabinet from a church that now supports my TV, an antique gate leg table that’s my ‘tech center’ (with modem, phone, printer, etc.) — even mirrors and framed Impressionist prints. I’ve tried to keep my decorating budget as close to zero as possible. The only thing in my living room I spent real money on was a white couch from IKEA.

All images via Casa Cara

Cara’s not the first person to tell me the previous owners of a home or apartment left items that they’ve ended up keeping and using. I love the idea of finding something really small, like a child’s toy, left behind in a secret hiding spot for years and years. Has that ever happened to you?

Check back tomorrow to read about one of Cara’s renovation projects.

Design Real is the Serpentine Gallery’s first exhibition dedicated to design. The gallery invited German product designer Konstantin Grcic to curate this exhibition of contemporary product design. The exhibition presents a total of 43 ‘real’ items produced in the last decade: a wide range of mass-produced products that have a practical function in everyday life, from furniture and household products to technical and industrial innovations.

Grcic was also in charge of the gallery space and his unique exhibition style is worth to mention. There is no information about the product whatsoever except its category, such as chair, broom, and bed, – no product name, no explanation, nothing. If you want to know more than that, a piece of free exhibition information (printed “Design Real” in the photo below) can give you very basic information such as product name, designer, manufacturer, or you can access its dedicated internet site www.design-real.com via Amazon Kindles, sitting on the sandbags piling up in circle in the dark room in the center of the gallery.

The concept of exhibition, to focus on the design of everyday life objects maybe groundbreaking for an art gallery, but it is common project that place like Design Museum would plan or have planned already, and nothing new to the design world. Though Serpentine is a small gallery but still only 43 items barely fill up the space and we were like “that’s it??” after we saw everything –a large design shop may do a better job than this exhibition. Maybe they should have focused on one category instead of presenting so many categories of products: for example, to show 43 well-designed chairs from all over the world would be more impressing. However, I have to admit that their website is well-done – black and white simple but sophisticated interface design, and its abundant information about the items, manufacturers, designs, histories are well worth to take time to explore.

Our quick house sale led to a rapid series of events that still means combing through boxes looking for particular items.

One thing became clear when we hauled all the boxes into our little rental: we brought too much. The weekend-long sale we had, disgorging new items onto the driveway for sale every day, emptied the rooms except for the ones with stuff we were sure we could use. The dining room set was sold, but we hung onto the kitchen table and chairs. My husband sold his yard tools and nearly new lawnmower. I threw away all of the worn rugs, sheets that fit beds we no longer owned, any clothes that were stained or ripped. I hauled hundreds of books and DVDs to the local library branch.

The mantra was if we did not want to pay to move something or store it, it was for sale. Who knew that we still had so far to go?

This round is a little harder. We grapple with getting rid of those things we think we’ll still use but don’t have room for. My carefully packed Christmas decorations are still in the garage. I’m a little afraid that if I open the box, I’ll feel compelled to get rid of even more of the ornaments I collected during family trips and marking events of the year. My husband kept his waders, which haven’t been in water since the kids were small and loved camping, so we both have our weaknesses.

I miss those weeks of living in a staged house, when there was no clutter and the place was always spotless. We’re working our way back to that again. But it’s going to take some time and a bit more fortitude.

A baby bassinet has several components which include; the chassis or the frame, the outer shell or the body, a canopy or the hood and the baby bassinet mattress on which the baby sleeps. While the quality of the baby bassinet mattress remains the most important aspect in baby bassinets, the framework of the bassinet should also be wobble-free, and there should not be any unnecessary protruding structures in the product’s body as well.

Most often, baby bassinets come complete with mattress, linen, pillows and other knick knacks, but these items may also be purchased separately. However, it makes a lot of sense to have an additional baby bassinet mattress at hand. This is particularly true because a kid’s baby bassinet mattress has to be changed periodically.

Prior to actually buying a baby bassinet mattress, you need to make sure whether or not it has the following properties:

v	It is important that the baby gets adequate support from the baby bassinet mattress, but you need to be sure that it is not too hard. Otherwise, the babies comfort would be compromised. v	You have the option of purchasing the Organic Bassinet Mattress when looking to replace your old baby bassinet mattress or when buying a new one. These have gained popularity rapidly over the past few years. Apart from being ideal for the baby, you can clean these mattresses with greater ease too. They also are germ-repellant, and do not run the risk of having bacteria. What is more, organic bassinet mattresses are made out of naturally flame retardant material and so are free from fire hazard.
You can be sure that there will be no bacteria in the baby bassinet mattress, since they are created by putting in organic cotton inside a cover that is waterproof and organic ensuring the general cleanliness and hygiene of the mattress.
v	Another issue that is extremely pertinent in this context is, whether the baby bassinet mattress fits well or not. v	Ideally, you should also purchase the mattress cover while you are buying the baby bassinet mattress.
v	It is not at all necessary that the makers of the bassinet and the baby bassinet mattress are the same.

A new baby bassinet mattress, with comfortable soft features, is bound to please the young one. If you would like to shower your baby with all the warmth, love and comfort that you can, it makes perfect sense to get the bassinet and the mattress. A good baby bassinet mattress is the one thing that ensures an undisturbed sleep for your little one.

Pharrell Williams, the lead singer of the rock/hip-hop group N.E.R.D., is a very talented musician, producer and beat manufacturer. Not only has he been successful with his music group, but he has also succeeded as an individual performer, being featured on various tracks from well known hip-hop artists. However, something you may not have known about Pharrell is that he doesn’t limit himself only to music. He co-founded the clothing lines Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream Footwear, and he has helped design glasses and jewelry for Louis Vuitton as well.

Another area that Pharrell has ventured into has been furniture design. However, I don’t think his success will be the same. So far, Pharrell has worked with Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in order to create interesting chair designs. As you can see, the chairs are a bit different. I’m all for people branching out and trying their luck in different areas and professions; but, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Seeing these designs just reminds me of the Saturday Night Live skit with Nuni and Nuni, the husband and wife art dealers who boost interesting and creative sets of chairs to sit on. Maybe Pharrell can be their personal furniture designer.

Bob and Joanna own The Country Dreamer, Hand Built Reproduction Furniture, Country Accessories & Antiques, about an hour east of New York City. They offer a popular collection of styles - Modern Country, Shabby Chic, Cottage, Country French, Eclectic are are most passionate about recreating Primitive and Early American Furniture.

Joanna explains,

I can get excited from talking about a scent of a simple candle to discussing a wonderful piece of furniture. I am thrilled when a customer says “we just bought a summer house, can you help me decorate it” or “we just built an extension, what would you do” or ”I have a blank wall that needs something, what do you suggest”. One time a customer asked Bob to build a wonderful Stepback Cupboard and then asked if I would bring over a bunch of accessories to fill it. It is flattering to have someone walk into my home and hear them say “it feels as if I just stepped back in time, I would love this, can I get this same look”? I love filling other people’s homes with things I love and sometimes really no longer have room for. There are times, no matter what I move around, a new piece of furniture just won’t fit, but if I can’t have it, then someone else who will appreciate it should. It is truly rewarding knowing a customer is happy with what they’ve purchased or what we’ve done.

Bob also builds custom furniture. He contacted me because he is really enjoying the Caromal Colour Textured Basecoat Paints and wanted to be able to offer his customers an authentic color chart – not just images on a computer screen. I set Bob up with a full set of wood trim color samples, as well as some of the Barnworn finish samples. When you can’t find the right size piece that you are looking for or you see a true antique or something in a magazine, book or in someone’s home that is not for sale, as one customer puts it, Bob will do his “MAGIC”. And each piece will be uniquely created – no two ever alike, each with its own distinct changes and character .

Bob recently created, and sold, this 1800 New England Plantation Desk, that he finished using some of the Caromal Colour Peppercorn -

I’m so pleased to introduce you to a new addition in our neighborhood. At the end of our street is an old Indian Mill which has stood vacant for quite some time. I always had dreams of what I would do with it if it were mine and one of my dreams was a boutique/gallery. It’s the perfect atmosphere for one to come in and linger.

Another woman had that dream and opened a store there this past weekend. We’ve watched her from our neighborhood moving things in, making improvements to the historic building and opening her store in a soft launch. My daughter and I wandered up on Friday to see what it’s all about in one of our antiquing adventures.

It’s an absolutely delightful store full of wonderful treasures of days gone by…

that will remind you of your mother or grandmother (depending on how old you are)…

There’s ambiance…

and a strong sense of design with a little bit of whimsy.

The best part of Trot Home is Colleen, the owner – a woman full of warmth, spirit and passion – a woman who took a risk and is following her dream. She believes in what she’s doing and that will ensure her success.

Stop in and see her…it’s worth the visit.

Who knows? You may be coming home with a treasure that had your name on it!

More information on her store and hours can be found at www.trothome.com.

P.S. Trot Home will be carrying some of my pieces as early as next week! Another reason to come in and visit

I went to work after Uni, and it was just plain weird. So many strange people came in. First was a lady that stayed for over an hour probably, and she liked to bark :/ Literally she was barking, and when I asked her if she did a cat impression she said she had a ‘mean pussy’. She was trying to flirt with one of my friends that works there, it was pretty hilarious. She wasn’t too impressed when I told her she couldnt have a packet of crisps for 9p and she went home not too long afterwards, but not before trying to turn one of my other fellow workers against me because I wouldnt sell her the crisps! Haha.

Then there was the middle aged man that couldn’t read digital clocks and came in with ‘18:42′ written on a piece of paper and asked what time it was. There was the smiley and smelly prostitute that just chilled in the seating area. The group of old men that weren’t really crazy (actually adorable) but not your usual Subway crowd. One of them looked the spitting image of this guy:

The resemblance is just too funny. And finally there was the over thankful man that stared at me a lot. They’re just the ones I remember! What a long night haha.

My DVD player seems to have packed in so I can’t watch 24. Annoying. At least I don’t have to look at Teri Bauer, she really annoys me for some reason. I think that I have some kind of secret hate for people with boy hair, I just don’t like it on girls. There I said it…grow your hair! (Unless your like 80 and balding).

So apart from that, I’m really resisting the urge to move my bed around. It seemed like a good idea when I was thinking about it, but there is a lot of junk underneath it :/ Hhmm, might just wait until Adam is here to help me like first planned. But I love stuff like that. Its gonna be awful when I have a whole house to arrange, it will be different every month, and always too cluttered. I just know it.
