Wenn man im Bus oder im Zug sitzt, auf etwas wartet, oder gerade auf dem Heimweg ist, dann ist die beste Möglichkeit, Zeit totzuschlagen eindeutig Gaming. Wenn man dann noch seine liebsten Retro-Titel unterwegs zocken kann, dann fängt der Spaß erst so richtig an. Ich liste euch heute ein paar meiner Retro to go Games auf.

Dragonball Z Buu's Fury

Mein erster Tip ist gleichzeitig ein Geheimtipp. Mit Dragonball Z Buu’s Fury ist nämlich eines meiner liebsten GBA Spiele erschienen. Das tolle Action Kampfsystem mit den Rollenspielelementen und der Dragonball Saga rund um Buu macht diesen Titel für mich zu einen wirklichen Hit. Ich habe viel Zeit mit diesem Titel verbracht, auch nach dem Story Ending war es spaßig, die Charaktere hochzuleveln, die Welten noch ein bisschen zu erforschen und neue Fertigkeiten zu lernen. Sehr cool: Man kann zwischen allen Dragonball Z Charakteren, die in diesem Teil der Saga tätig sind, spielen und wechseln nach Lust und Laune.

Final Fantasy IV Advance

Ein weiteres Rollenspiel darf hier in diesem Artikel dabei sein. Dabei handelt es sich um Final Fantasy IV Advance, welches ich schon seit SNES Zeiten gut kenne. Damals hat mich das Spiel schon begeistert, heute laufe ich noch gerne mit dem Gameboy Advance herum und spiel den Teil. Busfahrten werden so nie langweilig und auch der ein oder andere Sitznachbar ist sofort still und schaut gespannt auf dem Bildschirm um die sofort ergreifende Story mitzubekommen, oder die toll gemachten Kämpfe mitzuverfolgen.

Klar, es gibt noch viele andere Final Fantasy’s auf dem GBA, aber die müssen nicht alle genannt werden. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance etc. sind alles wirklich gute Titel, aber das hier ist einfach das beste Handheld Game der Reihe!

Mega Drive Collection (PSP)

Um auch eine gelungene Collection zu erwähnen, bringen wir diese mit ein. Schon allein die zwei Phantasy Stars (II und IV) berechtigen den Kauf dieser Collection allemal. Die anderen Titel sind auch wirklich gut. Wer mehr Info’s zu den einzelnen Titeln will, sollte einfach auf Amazon nachschauen…

Castlevania - Aria of Sorrow

Auf sämtlichen Handhelds ist Castlevania nun schon erschienen, aber auf keinem konnte es mich mehr überzeugen. Aria of Sorrow ist eines der wenigen Titel, dass die Elemente von Videospielen so gut verbindet wie sonst. Die RPG Elemente und das gut umgesetzte Metroidvania Prinzip, sowie die Liebe zum Detail seitens Konami machen den Titel unheimlich gut. Man spielt ausnahmsweise keinen Belmont und peitscht auch nicht in der Gegend herum, stattdessen sammelt man verschiedene Waffen und Seelen und läuft im Schloss von Graf Drakula umher, besiegt gigantische Bossgegner und erkundet die Umgebung.

Meiner Meinung nach eignet dieser Teil sich sowohl für lange als auch für kurze Sessions, da man jederzeit in Speicherräumen sein Spiel absichern kann, jedoch auch einfach fortfahren kann.

The Legend of Zelda - The Minish Cap

Schade dass ich Minish Cap erst jetzt nachhole. Denn hätte ich dieses Zelda Abenteuer früher gekannt, wäre ich wohl öfter mit dem früheren Bus gefahren,  um dann vor der Schule sitzend Zelda zu spielen. Stattdessen darf ich jetzt daheim spielen, weil ansonsten keine Zeit für das langwierige Adventure bleibt.

Ich habe übrigens bewusst zu Minish Cap gegriffen, da mir dieser Teil von den Handheld Zelda’s am besten gefallen hat, neben Phantom Hourglass. Aber Phantom Hourglass ist noch kein Retro Game, von daher…

Pokémon - Silberne Edition

Diese Videospielreihe prägte mein Leben als Gamer. Dank ihr spiele ich jetzt Rollenspiele, durch sie hab’ ich lesen gelernt und mit ihr gehe ich gerne auch heute noch aus dem Haus. Zwar nehme ich, um nicht mit dem klobigen Kultklumpen Gameboy aufzufallen, lieber meinen GBA mit, allerdings kann es schon oft passieren, dass genau dieses Spiel im Slot steckt. Die unheilmich gute Spielmechanik packt einen unheimlich gut, man kann allerdings auch jederzeit speichern und dann ausschalten.

Snow falls to the fire escape below. The rusted black bars become achromatic and plain, the complications of the cities many faces simplify if only for this moment. Edward takes a deep sip of his coffee, lets the air from his nostrils shoot downwards into the obsidian liquid below, the steam rolling upwards, fogging his glasses.

He watches as the squirrels emerge, bound across the Brooklyn rooftops in search of food, the out-of-place seagulls roaming overhead, far from their home at Brighton Beach, thinks of his childhood home which now exists only within his head.

The nostalgia for a simplicity that he knows never existed at times overwhelms him, thinks of the many days of roaming the hills around his home, the plainness, clean-lines, the innocence. Summer days and cool, foggy afternoons the regulated tempo of his younger years, he would traverse the golden grasses, the wind-swept Spanish moss hanging from the heavy branches of the oaks, the miner’s leaf lettuce patches that stretched for as far as the eye could see. The algae-covered pond, the weeping willow on its banks, the tadpoles and mosquito fish and the water bugs. The currencies of his remembered pasts abound and he exchanges them for moments of solace on cold days like these, far from home in the outer reaches of the city that never sleeps.

Someone has stopped in the middle of the street outside, the cars line up behind and frustrated drivers honk their horns with fury. The snow deadens the abrasive nature of their releases, he remembers as a young child playing with his sister on the highway that ran next to their house on a Sunday. That was before it became a major highway, still remained classified as a scenic route. Edward remembers his grandfather and father, father and son, in worn Levi jeans sitting on the alabaster fence watching them play. It was a summer day, the feint smell of tar from the hot asphalt, crisp, dry grasses, and the stillness of a mid-afternoon, the dry heat abounded. These things were etched into his memory forever and he knew that what he sought in life, more than happiness or contentment, was a return to this mythical past. He thinks of many of the mythical pasts we peg our contentedness, our senses of self-worth, our desires, our pains to and watches as the sparrows huddle against each other in the ever-increasing winter winds.

He knows that the memories he dredges up from his past are probably far different from what actually happened, that the contexts are lost, the full range of senses that accompanied each of his actions. His pasts become present through this yanking up and through time of these temporal moments that he commits. Today though, whether past or present, these moments offer condolement against the discord that erupts from the gritty, snow-covered streets of Brooklyn below and he sits, coffee in hand, as a being of remembered pasts.

I wish I could say, “They look like we, the act like we, but they are not at all like we,” but they are. Come on, my tax dollars are going to pay for this cretin’s health care?  Boo!

Hello! So I finally got my debit cards, only for them not to work, and the bank were most unhelpful with this issue. It’s all sorted out now though, and I can get hold of my money, which is always a good thing!

The past few days have been pretty nondescript really, there was anger and drinking on Saturday, then Sunday was pretty awesome actually. I was still in bed and messing around on Facebook at about 15.30, when I got a message from my flatmate Ceci, telling me to get up and ready cause we were having dinner at 16.30. So I got up, and went into the kitchen, where it turns out Ceci had spent all morning cooking mexican food, and she had invited all her mexican friends over for dinner, and two of the Frenchies who study at the school where I work. They were very civilised, they brought wine and cake . We ate food, which was amazing, and then it came up in conversation that I didn’t know how to dance salsa. This obviously led to all the furniture being moved, and the carpet being rolled back so they could all teach me. Pretty easily the best sunday lunch/spontaneous dancing ever!

Then came Monday, and work. Work is still fun, it’s just getting a bit boring when there’s nothing to do. Nothing much has happened this week so far. Until tonight, that is.

I got in from work, and my flatmate Heather knocked on my bedroom door asking if something had happened with me and Lucia (the one who never speaks to us, yet has parties midweek and gets stoned and drunk with her friends. Loudly. Until the early hours of the morning. When some people who might be trying to sleep in the next room have work to go to the next morning). Apparently when Heather got in from uni this afternoon, there’d been a sign outside my door that said ‘you are going to die’ and had blobs of tomato sauce on it, but when she came out of her room again later on it had been taken away and put in the bin, before I got home.

I am fucking furious about this. I’ve had to be stopped from violence. Evidence has been noted, and any sign of anything else will be noted and sent to the landlady, with a request that Lucia be evicted for violating several terms of the contract. If she wants a fight, she’s got one. She’s either very brave, or very stupid, and I want to cave her face in.

Anyway, things I am looking forward to:

1. Going out tomorrow with Heather and Ceci and people from work
2. Sarah coming to visit me and our day trip to Burgos
3. Going home for xmas since I’ve made up with my parents
4. Getting Erasmus Grant money
5. Starting to get paid from work
6. Giving English classes
7. MY 21st BIRTHDAY!!! (30th Dec, write it down)
8. Christmas
9. Various people visiting me
10. Reece getting the internet
11. A long hot shower in a nice bathroom
12. Living with Sarah and Martin next year

so, i understand that misogyny is a part of American culture, as much as i detest it (and sometimes, admittedly, find funny.) but i didn’t understand that it was a part of our fucking government. jesus christ, are these guys for real??

rep. pete sessions (r-tx) said in a Rules Committee meeting this past Friday that healthcare coverage for women (“female-related conditions”) was like healthcare coverage for smokers. from Politico:

” ‘Why should a woman pay more than a man?’ asked New Jersey Democrat Frank Pallone, according to the Courthouse News Service.

‘Well, we’re all different,’ Sessions explained. “Why should a smoker pay more?” he said before interrupted.”

yeah, having a uterus is like having a nasty habit that you choose to start. it’s like saying homosexuality is a choice. these people are grasping at straws.

let’s go into depth just a bit further with this. so: suppose being a women is a pre-existing condition (WHICH IT’S NOT), then her prenatal health care is likely not covered, it being a “female-related condition” and all. which will lead to lower birth weights, higher incidence of childbirth complications, higher infant mortality, higher maternal mortality, higher rates of developmental disabilities, etc., etc., which all end up costing taxpayers–say it with me–MORE MONEY. there’s conservative values for you. socially conservative does not equal fiscally conservative. it’s just a fact.

(see if you can figure how the argument for abstinence-only education parallels this. hint: it’s all over in previous posts here at our blog. another hint: if you’re here, you already know the answer and you probably already agree with us.)

but as i mentioned, i see this as part of a trend. also this weekend, more House republicans conducted themselves like snotty 4-year-olds while the Democratic Women’s Caucus talked about how women may be helped by the health care bill.

On Saturday morning, a group of House Republicans — led by Rep. Tom Price (R-Georgia) — attempted to stop the Democratic Women’s Caucus from making their arguments about how the health bill would benefit women by screaming over them.

Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) only had time to say “Mr. Speaker, I ask unanimous consent to–,” before Price shouted “I object.” The presiding chair, Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.) made gestures to maintain control, declaring that “the request is not yet before the House” and that Price was “out of order,” to little effect. Capps attempted to go on, but Price continued shouting “I object! I object! I object!”

now, it’s likely that these petulant right-wing elites are just as rude to everybody on the other side of the aisle, but the condescension by him and his party for these women and their principles is palpable. besides, if this closed-minded misogynist is so confident that he and his party are right about everything, why can’t they just let these women say their piece?

and let’s not forget last month, when the NRCC said that General McChrystal should “put her in her place” (speaking of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi–the first women Speaker ever.) if that doesn’t smack of sexism, i don’t know what does. i mean, try to imagine the NRCC saying that about Harry Reid or even Obama.

another list of a few issues that smack of misogyny:

• abortion (it’s implicit–we women don’t deserve autonomy over our own bodies–the menfolk really ought to step in and tell us what’s best for us.)
• access to affordable contraceptives and family planning services–(see above.) at last count, the CDC said that half of sexually active women depend on Title X clinics or other subsidies for their contraceptives. these same women are the most likely to get pregnant and least likely to be able to afford an abortion or to afford to be able to raise a child. (but having an abortion is cheaper! so we can’t let them do that!)
• practically all large-scale sex education programs in America–Jessica Valenti (who is awesome) pointed out on Alan Colmes’ radio show: “if you look at a lot of the messages that are contained in abstinence-only [sex] education classes, they’re really  shame-based. and the shame-based messages are overwhelmingly directed at young women. young women are taught that their entire worth is tied to whether or not they have sex…shame-based messaging is completely sexist and completely directed at young women. we should be teaching our daughters that their ability to be good people is dependent on their intelligence, their kindness and their compassion, not on whether or not they have sex.” men are men, regardless of their sexual activities (or lack thereof), but women who have sex are dirty whores who deserve STIs and to be tied down by babies. but i’ll be damned if we pay for your prenatal care, postnatal care, your child’s education, your education or your groceries. you fucking mooch. mooch-whore.
• wardrobe–how many cracks have i heard about Hilary Clinton’s pantsuits? Pelosi’s botox? Michele Obama’s shorts/sleeveless dresses/belts? these women can’t be taken seriously unless they–well, they can’t! because they’re women! ha!
• just being a woman–people showed up to Hilary Clinton’s campaign stops with signs saying “iron my shirt,” people in the media calling her “shrill” and whatnot. i’m not saying that sexist comments weren’t made by the left toward sarah palin, however i will say that people on the right were just as sexist toward her (“sexy sarah,” anyone? even they couldn’t take her policy positions seriously.)

now, i’m not trying to get into a discussion or debate about feminism (lord knows we’ve done that enough already.) besides, -Z- had a post about that a bit ago that addressed a lot of these ideas. what i’m talking about it the legislation of misogyny into law. we need to stop letting people say things and do things that degrade and condescend to us.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokeswoman Jennifer Crider put it pretty well when she said this of sessions’ asinine comparison of uterus ownership (yes, ownership) to smoking:

“First, the NRCC says that a man ought to put the first woman Speaker of the House ‘in her place.’ …I don’t know what’s scarier, whether NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions actually believes women are second class citizens or whether he believes it’s politically beneficial for the NRCC to say so.”

When anger sets in, or one feels that a state of anger is necessary, it should be stoked with all the fuel available in order to make ensure that it burns out completely, and not leave any smoldering in the wake of the fire that will result in more burning later on.

Firstly, the necessity of anger must be clarified. Anger is never necessary as a stand-alone feature. No emotion is necessary by itself. In fact, emotions are quite the retardant to progress. Anger is only necessary to dispense of the underlying causes of the anger itself. Somewhat like an emotional cleansing – an abstract act of crying, if you will. Much like a bout of crying will reset, or neutralize your mood, so too will a furious episode of expression. However, anger is never useful as a tool in rhetoric. Ever.

When one does find himself in a mood of extreme frustration, and eventually anger, he should do his best to escalate that mood as much as possible, in a controlled manner. The anger must turn to rage, fury, wrath, a putrid emotion that is ineffably primitive. An emotion that confirms your murderous intentions against the scum that is anything that is human, anthropomorphic by extension, or whatever it is the anger is from. It usually is derived from human (in)action.

The reason for the escalation is the inherent humanness in people that become angered. We have only so much energy, and only so much of it can be used before a burnout occurs. Like a person that is confronted with something that petrifies them – they tremble, cry, scream, but inevitably hit a calm, because their bodies do not have any more energy to shake with – the anger will subside.

Nietzsche’s stance on Nihilism was that he wished to hasten its coming only so that he could also hasten its ultimate departure. This is much like my outlook on anger. The sooner it metaphorically burns out, the sooner calm is reinstated. The more violent the burning is, the better the chance that everything that can be fuel to the fire will burn out with it. As for the psychological aspect on the health of anger – that depends on the personality of the person in question.

I really thought that we are over this.

But every time I thought that we are over it, obviously it comes up again. And here we are again in that cycle, going round and round and going it all over again.

I think that I really should give up and not bother thinking anymore because it hurts my chest real bad and I don’t want to feel that every time before I go to bed.

How many times we’ve talked about it and seemed to settle it once and for all. Then by the will of God, I happen to find out that it is not as over as I would like to think it is.

Maybe I should just stick my nose at what I do best – WIFE : washing, ironing, fucking, Eros.

Other than that I shouldn’t really bother about bothering other things. If I keep my head in these long enough then I would cease to be bothered and then I wouldn’t get this crazy cramping pain in my chest every night.

I am tired of crying.  I am tired of keeping up. But I don’t want to give up. Eros needs me and I need Eros too.

I am tired. I’ll just hold my head up, bite my tongue and play along. Like how I used to before.

When the Scourge Gryphon drops me off at Death’s Breach, I notice Salanar the Horseman, Prince Valanar, Hargus the Gimp, a horse named Fury, Olrun the Battlecaller and Gothik the Harvester. Orithos the Sky Darkener leads a group of archers who are firing at citizens of Havenshire that are fleeing to the safety of New Avalon. Orithos orders me to recover arrows, because they are made from saronite, a metal only found in Northrend, and supplies are limited. Salanar the Horseman wants me to steal a horse from the Havenshire stables. Prince Valanar wants me to slay Scarlet Crusaders and Havenshire villagers. Olrun the Battlecaller wants me to pass a rite of passage called Death’s Challenge. It was born from the Lich King’s victory over Illidan Stormrage in the heart of the frozen wastes and every deathknight must undergo it. Olrun orders me to duel five other deathknight initiates.

When I present the stolen horse from the Havenshire stables to Salanar the Horseman, he sends it to the realm of shadows. A dark rider will slay it and resurrect it in its undead form as an Acherus Deathcharger. Salanar sends me into the Realm of Shadows where I kill the dark rider and take his Deathcharger.

Prince Valanar tells me the Scarlet Crusade is in a frenzy. They have set up a blockade at Light’s Point (east from Death’s Breach) and are desperatly loading resources from the Havenshire Mine into the boats on the coast. He wants me to talk to Gothik the Harvester, grand necromancer of the Lich King.

Gothik the Harvester tells me he came from the frozen heart of Naxxramas. He gives me Gift of the Harvester, a device that can turn the Havenshire miners into ghouls. He wants to feast on their souls.

Afterwards, Gothik the Harvester ordered me to speak to Prince Valanar. The time had come to attack the Scarlet fleet. East of Death’s Breach, past the Havenshire Mine, is the coast. The Scarlet Crusade calls it Light’s Point. Thousands of soldiers stand between the Lich King’s forces and the Scarlet ships.

Prince Valanar orders me to hide in a mine car. One of the miners will unwittingly take me to the ships. There I must attack the Scarlet defenders with their own cannons. After escaping with a Scourge gryphon, I arrive back at Death’s Breach. All that’s left of the Scarlet Crusade now is the people in New Avalon. Prince Valanar orders me to deliver his report to Highlord Darion Mograine inside Acherus.

Dallas Cowboys DeMarcus Ware should officially not be allowed to make this face.  After signing a contract for 78 millies, ESPN has  created a tragic fun salary cruncher that puts normal human salaries in perspective. 

In light of being in the midst of negotiating my own salary during a recession, I thought this was an appropriate, albeit tear inducing post.
