Robots go to war: American insect Terminators

Just recently I watched an episode in the Discovery Channel featuring future weapons, this time, it’s all about guns.   Guns, not in sense associated with violence, but guns that are used in the current revolutionized law enforcement systems in the first world countries.  They are called “directed energy weapons” – amazing stun guns and laser guns. 

For that episode they presented two kinds of revolutionized guns.  The first one is the laser gun which aims to disable, distract, disorient one’s ability (used ideally in vehicles and in any checkpoint); to obscure the driver’s vision, giving him a momentary and temporary inability to focus.  The second one is the stun-strike wireless stun gun that fires a bolt of light, with a static energy of 200,000 volts! Gosh, it perfectly captures, as they say, the “natural psyche of lightning”. 

So you might ask, How are they used?

We all know that the use of technology, in any form, in any kind, reduces the stress.  In this context, using technology one can gain control of the situation without any kind of casualties.  Perfect for police and law enforcement officers. 

But future weapons and gadgets like these are not only limited to the very concept of lasers and lightning.  Soundwaves can also be a vital strategic combat loudspeaker against intruders.  The effective acoustic weapon, I say.  Using long ranged acoustic device such as “LRAD” (which is surprisingly and amazingly 10,000 times louder than usual, in 155 decibels) is enough to disable the focus of the attacker.  Simply put, it’s like a punch in the eardrum and believe me, it’s going to cause you more than great severe discomfort. 

But future weapons like these must be used the way they were idealized of course.  In a good way.

Australia. The lucky country. I can see why we call ourselves that, especially in recent times. For one thing, we’ve had no terror attacks yet. Though the government dissent squashers have just made a big hoo-ha about arresting four men of middle-eastern appearance, and allegedly stopping what “could have been” the biggest terror attack on Australian soil. Terror Australis. Well, not yet.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that something may happen one day. Maybe on a day in which all military and emergency services will be busy doing some big training exercise and they won’t be able to tell whether the attacks are real or staged, and that will reduce their effectiveness in dealing with the situation. Maybe, or maybe not. But enough of that whacko conspiracy talk!

Immigrants and refugees, legal and illegal, are flocking to our shores – as they always have – and our ragtag culture is slowly growing and assimilating itself into something that represents Australia as a whole, yet also the individuals of our society. The Australian society, spawned of penal colony mentality and with all its current faults, is still something I’m proud to be a part of. And like I always say: if you’re not an Aboriginal, shut the fuck up and stop whining about immigrants, you ignorant bloody immigrant.

Our mining sector is booming: China can’t get enough of our iron ore and America can’t get enough of our Uranium. Our iron ore exports topped AU $36 billion last financial year. Our uranium oxide exports bring AU $900 million into the country each year – and we all know where that ends ups. The Chinese government has recently kidnapped four Rio Tinto executives in a convoluted attempt to gain access to a more permanent supply of iron ore. And Peter Garrett, our esteemed Environment Minister and muzzled Muppet of the ALP, has signed off on the new Uranium mine for Heathgate Resources, an ‘affiliated company’ of General Atomics. General Atomics manufactures the Predator UAV spyplane and has quite a significant influence in US congress, but they also got into trouble in 2001 for cooking the books of their military contracts during the 1990s. Geez, I wonder what could be over the horizon? A resource war maybe?

Certain private sectors are also making a killing. Some in a more real sense than others. Our banks are absolutely loving the Global Fake Calamity at the moment: better than expected recovery/profits and whatnot. Not handing down interest rate drops, and then reaping the millions that they’re making off our money. No wonder they are so economically robust. Good for them, but not so good for us. We merely get the chains of capitalist oppression tightened just a tad.

Another company making a killing, in a more literal sense, is Metal Storm Limited. Based out of Queensland, this weapons manufacturer owns the rights to the “million rounds per minute” firing system developed by James Michael O’Dwyer. MSL has numerous contracts with US agencies/corporations including Boeing, DARPA, Department of Energy, Lockheed Martin, National Institute of Justice (NIJ), U.S. Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Army Armaments Research, Development, Engineering Command (ARDEC), U.S. Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory, and U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM). With war being America’s biggest and best profit maker for now and into the future, MSL looks to have scored big-time in the ‘let’s-show-the-world-how-well-we-can-kill-each-other’ race. DARPA paid US $10 million in 2002 toward sniper rifle research (1). The US Department of Defence paid AU $2.1 million in 2006 for automated weapons systems research (2). In 2006 A US company StarChase LLC – which builds car tracking devices – has paid AU $1.5 million. The US Navy has paid AU $1.4 million in 2008 for a rapid fire shotgun (4). Let us not forget that these figures are merely a piss in the wind compared to the countless trillions spent on war in the last decade.

What luck! We, as Australians, don’t have to suffer the actual horrendous realities of war within the boundaries of our own country, but we can sure as hell make a decent profit off it when it’s perpetuated throughout the third world. Yay for Metal Storm. Yay for democracy too.

Metal Storm is a weapon of the future. Why are we even planning weapons of the future? Why are we not planning environmental clean-ups? Why are we not developing renewable energy resources? Why are we not breaking down the cultural barriers caused by religious xenophobia? Why are we not bringing clean-water technology to the third world? Why are the technologically-advanced ‘developed’ countries not helping the struggling nations develop into a better standard of living? Why do we not show more compassion and empathy toward our fellow humans? Why are we stuck in a state of desensitised stagnation and not evolving toward the next level of consciousness?

Because of Money and War, that’s why…

This past weekend I was watching random videos on YouTube and came across this video of the Airborne Laser being featured on Future Weapons.  Though only a litte more than 2 minutes in length it provides a great overview of the ABL system.
