When she arrived, she saw that the glitzy event was in full effect. She instantly recognized several well-known celebrities walking the red carpet, making their way towards the Egyptian-themed entrance of the up-scale event center. The music industry’s biggest award shows were held there, because it had one of the most expensive, top-notch, state of the art sound systems on the planet. It had a digital soundstage equipped with sophisticated special-effects gadgetries that many Hollywood studios used to make movies.

Hordes of animated stargazers were standing behind heavily-guarded bright yellow barriers, shouting and clapping excitedly. She remembered feeling overwhelmed by all of it the first time she attended a red-carpet event, but after awhile she got used to it.

Exiting the limo, she began her descent down the red carpet, pausing periodically to pose for various members of the press. As unnerving as it was for her, she thoroughly understood how media publicity trickled down to big bucks for the record company and the artist. This was why Hubert Cole made her attend. Being on the front page of tabloid magazines would keep her public persona fresh, and nothing made fans hungrier than knowing personal details about their favorite star.

Something as simple as eating a sandwich at a side-walk cafe was news to a fan. A Photograph of an entertainer doing routine things garnered big dollar, depending on what it was. Lady Diana was one of the most photographed celebrities in history, until the day she perished in that horrific automobile accident. Her death was directly related to the paparazzi, because her driver was trying to ditch them.

Years after the horrific event, nothing changed. They even snapped pictures of the mangled wreckage and sold the pictures, which made front page news. Even the funeral had mass media coverage, so the reality is what it is; as long as papers move off store shelves, nothing will change. High profits is top priority for all businesses, and the lives of entertainers yields huge profits. Only a fool would interfere with something as reliable and lucrative as media coverage of the stars.

As “ICON” continues to pull me into it’s mystery, I write and watch what unfolds. This time around, I’m experiencing something I have never experienced before. This novel constantly calls me and doesn’t quit until I write. ~GD

“…Vast fortune was insurance for a life of always have and never want. What she discovered is that it came with all those things, and several more she had never counted on. Trust was an empty word, loyalty was just an illusion, and an invasion of privacy was considered normal.

You kept more people fed than you would ever imagine when you sold millions of records and started selling out arenas. Everyone from minimum waged parking lot workers to the ultimate annoyances , the paparazzi, profited off you by either taking tickets, or stirring up controversy.

Every entertainer finds their own way to cope with the grueling pressures associated with stardom. Traci wound up in a desperate search for a way to start coping with hers, but nothing seemed to work. She tried meditation, yoga, exercise, religion, support groups, but nothing worked. Life on the road became a blurred stream of countless cities, shifting time zones, and impersonal hotels.

Home became another stop along the way, because she was rarely their to enjoy it. She had amassed everything she had ever dreamed of, but had sacrificed her freedom to get it.

During the final show of the Orange Moon tour, she was standing center stage, performing the last song of the evening. Within the context of that song, there was a hidden revelation about her that she felt compelled to include. Writing it had already been difficult, but when she sang it in the studio an emotional overload was unleashed from the depths of her soul, and the song become one of her most personal ones to date.

After the last few bars of “Message in the Sky,” faded, a satisfying silence fed anxiousness, anticipation. and solemn. It was as if every single fan in the sold out arena had reached one conclusion in the same moment.

“What’s up everybody?” she asked in a commanding dramatic whisper.

A thunderous roar was the response.

“What do y’all find so amusing about me?” was the follow up question she asked, as she teasingly circled the silver mic stand, looking down at the modest stage floor.

“We love you, Traci!” several fans screamed from the audience.

“You’re the best, girl” screamed another during a brief pause.

“Can I come home with you, baby?” a random baritone voice asked with excitement.

The crowd erupted in laughter.

His question caught her by surprise, and made her stagger backwards in an amused waddle.

Every time she tried responding, a girlish giggle stopped her. Fans who attended the concerts always seemed more genuine to her, and it didn’t matter what country she was in. Moment like that one always seemed to make it worth wild.

“Take you home?” she laughed, shaking her head. “Would you even know what to do when we got there?” she asked, knowing very well that the question would throw the crowd into a hysterical fit.

And it did.

“Alright, that’s enough of that. I’m pretty sure my band is tired and ready to get some sleep, but before I say goodnight, I wanna sing a song for you. Is that okay with you?” she asked, in a more serious tone.

“Yeah!” they screamed.

“Okay, but you have to promise me that you’re going to be quiet and let me do this.” she told them.

With that, the band started playing the lush violin intro to “This Side of Heaven“. The song had never been released as a single, but die-hard fans knew every word by heart.

“Never knew of a tree so tall…

Often stood, tumbled down in a fall..,.

Always felt my life would never be

Something close and near to complete.

I did for you

But not for me

I Built you up

Then watched you leave

I had to find

Myself in me

To be the one

That I got to be

And it’s hard….

ICON - Carla's Vision (Prelude to the Novel) by Author, G. D. Grace

Carla Williams saw a vision of the future.

In it she saw a curvaceous silhouette standing beneath a shower of colorful lighting on a stage alone.

She heard thousands of people wildly chanting the name…

Traci!

This same name flashed furiously across a panoramic arena marquee in fiery bold red letters.

She did not recognize it.

The name was Traci Starr.

What did it signify?

It baffled her.

The images were so real that she could actually feel the smooth polished surface of the lone silver pole holding the microphone. She grasped it firmly with both of her hands, and then took special care stroking it up and down slowly.

Whose life was she seeing?

Why was she having such peculiar premonitions repeatedly?

A series of unanswered questions followed every episode. They were disorganized without any resolution, and accompanied by countless melodies with lyrics she had never heard before.

Who was Traci Starr?

"The gift of patience" (Reflections of a Writer) GD

I know the title might freak some of you out, but it’s actually an interesting Blog.

“2DO Before I Die”

Life is meant to be lived. We ride out those blue days knowing that, if we are blessed to wake up in the morning, we need to capture as much of life’s beauty as we can.

I ain’t about Anger, Hatred, Rage, Belittling Others, Harboring Resentment, Being Unforgiving, etc… My life has far more value than that. Some of the stories and pictures that people share on Facebook, Tumbler, Twitter, WordPress, LULU, etc.. inspire me more than they’ll ever know.

Families, Friends, Cook-Outs, Love, Blue Skies, Rainy Skies, Rainbows, Personal Accomplishments, Birth, Tenderness, Tall Trees, Majestic Mountains, Sailing The Ocean, Riding Bicycles, Traveling The World, Care-Givers Giving Of Themselves, Para-sailing, Jet-Skiing, Swimming, Animals, (insert your own adventure or blessing).

There is just so much more to focus on than all that fussing, and yelling, and unnecessary negativity.

This insecure guy was yelling and cursing at me like he had no sense a few months ago, and I just looked at him calm, and composed, while he made a fool of himself in front of his 3 year old, the neighbors, and whomever else was in earshot. I can’t lie, I cringed a little, but didn’t break my poise — especially since I have seen him in action on more than one occasion.

The next morning after he had slept of that 211 he was drinking, he asked me “why didn’t you get mad?” I said for what, to loose precious breath arguing with you about your inability to communicate like you’ve got good sense?

Not a chance.

Oh, by the way, did you ever find your keys?

You know the ones you were looking for last night, again?

And one other thing, please don’t blame your girlfriend, she isn’t the one loosing them all the time, it’s you.

Yea, and just one more thing, do you really believe that arguing, spiting and throwing water on one another is really a healthy relationship?

You know something, gotta go!

People whom have not mastered the art of respect and considerateness of others are people that allow me to keep on polishing one of the greatest gifts that The Almighty blessed me with…

Patience.

(I’ll be moving out in the next couple of weeks)

(Another excerpt from, “ICON”,another novel I’ll be releasing some time in late 2013)

…She was outdone. Her indifference was short lived, as her thoughts settled back on a derailed career, and the memory of a child who she believed was not dead. She could still feel the cold iron he slid slowly across her cheek. The barrel of the gun looked menacing when she looked down the blackness that housed lead bullets. His threat shot waves of fear in her heart. She knew to take what he said seriously. Even though she never witnessed a crime, she knew he was capable of following through without blinking an eye.

When she reached room 524, she slid the card key into the electronic lock, and waited until the identification light changed from red to green. When it did, she withdrew it, turned the knob, opened the door, and entered the suite. The hallway light immediately flickered on, allowing her to inspect her surroundings. She found the temperature gage and adjusted it to 75 degrees.

“Damn, they charged an arm and a leg for this overpriced hole, you’d think they’d make it cozy. Shit, it’s freezing in here,” she said out loud, dissatisfied with the earlier service she received, and now the room.

The late evening autumn sun descended slowly into the watery horizon, unapologetic for leaving it’s place in the vast sky. Traci immersed herself in the fall of day, gazing in a cleansing meditative state. There was something calming about watching the ebb and tide, swelling and expanding in a series of waves. She took small sips of red wine from the slender, crystal, flute she held in her left hand. Her direction seemed as dark as the approaching night sky, for there was no clarity to grasp to. All she knew was gone.

By the time room service arrived, the effects from the wine had her in a giggly mood. She staggered towards the door, humming cheerfully to an unreleased song she had written.
When she made it to the door, she swung it open with such force, she lost her balance and fell onto the soft, rust carpet. It happened so quick until it took her a moment to realize why she was looking up at the handsome, well-built, room service attendant.

His skin tone was the color of dark chocolate, and his imperfect white smile was genuine, as he raced over to her aid. When he lifted her gently up, she could feel his strength by how easily he whisked her up into his strong arms. The swift rescue had her feeling more light headed than she was before the tumble, and all she could do was rest her head against his massive chest.

“I’ve got you, Miss,” he said, obviously oblivious to the big recording star he was holding in his arms.

She didn’t know if he was just being respectful, or if he truly didn’t know who she was. The latter is what she hoped, because it made him that more sexy. It had been several months since her last intimate interlude, so his magnificent brawn, and manly warmth ignited the fuse of lust within her womanly entryway.

“Thank you, young man,” she said, grinning flirtatiously, slightly embarrassed by her accidental spill.

“You’re welcome, Miss. Do you need me to get anything for you while I’m here?” he asked, as he returned wheeling in the cart that held the food she had ordered.

Even though she was craving companionship, she made the conscious decision to remain a lady, instead of a hard up tramp. “No, I’m fine,” she said. Her sexless span would have to continue until the right man came along. She didn’t want to start her new life making old mistakes.

That’s how she wound up in his bed that crazy night. He took advantage of her drugged out mental state. She could only recall bits and pieces, but remembered vividly that he had entered anally. Just the memory of the excruciating pain she endured caused a low whimper to slip out, and he looked towards her with a look of concern on his face.

“Are you sure you’re going to be okay,” he asked, checking again to see if she was still okay.

“You heard that?” she asked, flustered that he had heard her.

He nodded his head, bashfully.

“I apologize. What you heard was a bit of my past haunting me, but I’ll be fine. I do need something though,” she told him, as she reached out with her left arm.

He moved towards her. “Sure, whatever you need….”

“Carla… My name is Carla,” she completed his sentence, telling him her birth-given name.

“Okay, Carla, what else can I do for you?” he asked, tenderly.

“Will you be my friend for just a little while?” she asked, as tears welled up in her eyes.

Never taking his eyes off of her or releasing her hand, he sat down beside her. When she laid her head on his shoulder, he released her hand, and put his right arm around her shoulders. His actions weren’t sexual, they were comforting. She felt safe with him. Before another second could pass, she asked him his name. Knowing his name would make him less a stranger.

“It’s Jasper, Jasper Williams,” he said, looking ahead nervously.

It took her a minute to put it together, but once she did, she raised her head from off his shoulder, and moved his around to stare into his eyes. It couldn’t be. Coincidence did not have the ability to reunite two people from a past so long ago, but how could she deny what her eyes beheld? His adult features resembled those of a little bow legged kid who occupied the room next to hers three summers before the talent competition. Just as they had gotten close, he was taken away to live with relatives on his late father’s mother.

His father was married to her mother at the time, but he lost his life in the line of duty at a construction site suddenly. My mother tried gaining custody to honor her late husband’s wishes, but during a nasty, six month court battle, he was awarded to his father’s mother in 1993. He was only 10 years old, and she was 17.
Their 7 year age difference strengthened their relationship; she loved playing the role of big sister.

Her intense study of him forced him to break the silence. “What are you thinking about, Carla?” he asked, intrigued by her fascination.

“How old are you, Jasper,” she asked, hoping he’d say the magic number she had calculated in her mind.

He chuckled. “I’m legal, so you’re not breaking the law,” he said.

She sat up, and punched his arm. “I figured as much. But, humor me, how old are you, Jasper? Really,” she asked again, sitting back against the arm of the sofa they shared.

His face had a baffled expression, but instead of keeping her in suspense, he gave her an answer. “I’m 27 years old. Now why was knowing my age so important,” he asked, still not connecting the dots.

She let out an elated scream, slid from her end of the couch dashing towards him, and when she reached him she wrapped her arms tightly around him. Her impulsive reaction stunned him, and once she calmed down he asked her what he had missed.

“It’s me, Jay-Bird,” she said, using the nickname she used to call him.

At first he thought he was hearing things, because only one person had ever called him by that name. He vaguely remembered when his father’s people took him from the only home he had ever known. For seventeen long years, memories of that final morning goodbye stayed in the forefront of his mind relentlessly. Sudden death altered a routine he had gotten accustomed to. Before he went to school his dad would always say, see you when I get home from work, son. He expected to see him pull up in the driveway at 4:00pm, but that day he didn’t show up.

Instead, at 5:24pm, the phone rang and his stepmother answered it. A few moments after she said hello, tears filled her eyes and she looked at him shaking her head. He couldn’t understand why she kept looking at him shaking her head teary-eyed. He wondered why she had that sad look on her face, and why that phone call was making her clutch her mouth that way. That call was bad news, and something told him it would explain why his father had not returned home. He should’ve been home by 4:00pm. Why hadn’t he arrived, and what was she being told?

When she hung up, she just stood there in one spot, crying. What was she crying about? Something told him the phone call had something to do with his father, and he wasn’t sure he wanted know. But he had to know, and after a few long minutes he did know. His dad would never be coming home again. He wasn’t ever going to hear his father call him son anymore. The last time he heard his voice would be the last time he heard it. He didn’t know it at the time, but he knew it then, because she told him. She said there had been an accident. She said they couldn’t resuscitate him. She told him the paramedics tried for 10 minutes, but he didn’t respond. She said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He had been missing him for so long. He was angry at his dad for leaving him. He was angry because they told him he had to go live with them. He was frightened because he had to go live with total strangers. His dad kept him away from those people. Why did they make him go live with those people? Those same people that hurt his father when he was a little boy. Didn’t Carla and her mother want him to stay? They must not have wanted him to live with them. The only person who cared about him had died, so he was an orphan. An orphan that nobody wanted.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about Miss,” he said, as he rose hastily from the sofa.

“But everything adds up. Your first and last name, your age, and you look just like him. You look just like Bradford Williams,” she told him, in a tone of certainty.

“My father’s name was, Ralph, I don’t know anyone named, Bradford,” he said, flustered by her identification of him.

“Are you sure? No two people could look so much a like,” she told him, practically accusing him of lying.

“You don’t think I know what my father’s name is? You’ve mistaken me for someone else,” he told her, agitated by her persistence.

“Look, I didn’t mean to upset you,” she said, in a sorrowful tone.

The sadness he heard in her voice stopped him in his tracks. He turned around and looked at her from where he stood in the hall. He did remember her, but he refused to let her know. Where was she at back when he needed her? They were supposed to be friends. Why didn’t she fight for him? She told him that he was her little brother and that she would always protect him. When he needed someone he could trust, nobody was there, and he swore he’d never trust anyone again.

“Jasper, I didn’t mean to upset you. Please, don’t go,” she whispered softly, hanging her head mournfully.

“I really need to complete my rounds, but once I’m done, i’ll be back,” he said tenderly, with a hint of surrender in his brown oval-shaped eyes.

“You better not stand me up, mister,” she playfully warned.

“I’m no liar, I’m a gentleman who always keeps his promise,” he said, with a slight reassuring grin, exiting the room with swift masculine grace.

After the door closed, the temperature in the room suddenly got uncomfortably chilly and the lonely feeling that had been lingering for months intensified. His warm genuine aura was refreshingly comforting and had momentarily taken away that empty desolate feeling. Regardless of what he said, she knew, in her heart, that the Jasper who had just left the room was, without a doubt, the same Jasper she shared countless memorable moments with years ago. The same one she called her little brother. The one she promised to protect. The one she had given the nickname, Jay-Bird to.

It was as if fate had presented her with a chance to redeem herself, and she was going to make sure she didn’t blow it again. She remembered crying the rest of that day, and for several more days after he left to go live with his father’s mother. Not only was she mourning the sudden death of the step-father she loved and adored, she was also mourning the loss of a little boy she had grown deeply fond of. His kind-hearted spirit was pure sunshine in their home, and when he left he took it with him.

Strangely, she understood why Jasper felt the way he felt. He was too young to understand that, once the court stepped in, her mother had no say so in the matter. The battle for custody was over immediately after the judge slammed his gavel down. His father’s verbal wishes carried little weight in court. If it wasn’t in writing then it was only hearsay, and that was not strong enough to matter inside the legal arena.

Carla Williams had lived in the shadow of her superstar persona, Traci Starr for far too long. There were millions of fans on every continent obsessed with every aspect of an entertainment ICON that very few really knew.

Life on center stage came with phenomenal pressures that none of them would ever experience, but every single one of those pressures went along with the territory. Once you reached ICON status you were no longer a person, you were a bankable commodity.

Millions had been made from her massive record sales and sold-out global concerts. Traci Starr was entertainment royalty. In the beginning, the jet-setting lifestyle was exciting and fun, but it quickly became draining and burdensome. It almost destroyed her spirit. This was why she had to walk away from it all while she was still sane. With all of the money she had made, she could live comfortably for the rest of her days, and never be broke. The mere thought of having a simple life caused a hard smile to stretch across her face.

For her, the decision had been made.

She retired to the bedroom of the lavish suite, immersed in decisiveness about her own future, and all the ways she would spoil Jasper. Both of them had a lot of catching up to do, and she wanted him to fill in all the blanks about his life that she had missed. She hoped that his late father’s mother had been kind to him, and that he always felt safe and loved living with her. She never once forgot the pained look on his face as he slowly turned his head and looked back at she and her mother that one final time.

The gentle sunlight of early morning awakened her, and she began a series of horizontal stretches to loosen her muscles. It had been a while since she felt so alive and free, but those serene thoughts quickly diminished when her thoughts rewinded back to a prior night’s promise. A promise that had been broken.

Before her heart made it to the next beat, she sat straight up in the luxurious king size bed that she had unintentionally fallen asleep on the prior night. Had he broken his promise to her, or had she foolishly missed his return visit because she was sleeping? Her hope was that he had come, but was unable to awaken her. She was known for being a hard sleeper, and even told on more than one occasion, that she could sleep through anything, but she never intended to sleep through this.

Instead of teetering back and fourth between what if and perhaps, she reached for the hotel’s phone, picked up the receiver, and called the front desk. As it rang, she prayed that whoever answered the line would be able to give her information about Jasper’s whereabouts. Since personnel information was considered proprietary and confidential, she realized that her chances of getting an address or phone number was, most likely, nil to none.

She was going to ask anyway.

If God says, this will be released late 2013 early 2014. Who knows, perhaps this one will be the one I can turn into a Movie.

Every now and then something rattles my creative spirit and has me questioning my abilities, regardless of all the accomplishments I’ve made. Some call it doubt. Others recite the passage “And This Too Shall Pass”, and I guess I tend to levitate somewhere in the middle during these transitional periods. The 2012 summer season of my blog talk radio show, “A Touch of Grace”, has been inspiring and productive. I’ve had the opportunity to interview some pretty talented and amazing people during the 30 minute segments, and in my heart I know that it is a blessing that they even allowed me the honor of the interviews. I am grateful for all of my blessings, and I will chant that over and over. They aren’t meant to be taken for granted — ever.

I suppose the restlessness comes from a spiritual place where my ambition lies. It’s in a corner designated for dreams, hopes, and prayers.

You inquire silently and ask yourself; when, knowing very well that “it will happen in time if destiny choose it to be so”.

Success.

Book number 6, “Daddy,” looms there, as do my future literary endeavors — the books still yet to be completed, “Anomaly”, “Red”, “With Arms Around Me,” and countless others in progress.

There are only so many hours in a day, and I stepped into this literary life to fulfill what I had in me, a passion for written expression.

It saved me.

I’m trying to understand what is learned from some of these reality shows that follow the lives of people who seem to resort to throwing blows as a way of getting their point across. One thing for sure, getting up in somebody’s face and screaming at them will usually have a bad outcome. I utilize my option to bypass the channel totally when this type of programming is presented. Why sit and watch buffoonery at it’s best? It’s not that I think I’m better than anybody but, really, with all of the illnesses, educational deficits, illiteracy challenges… etc… Why occupy my mental and visual watching adults with communication deficits behaving badly? I choose to walk to the beat of my own drum.

About the alleged Chris Brown and Drake fight…. enough is enough. It has really gotten old and tired. The over inflated arrogance in some of these entertainers and absolute disregard for authority and self just makes me want to disconnect from the whole mad scene. I really don’t watch too much TV anymore… and I listen to music geared towards influencing the spirit positively. My writing has even been influenced by a peaceful direction, aimed at adding something meaningful to existence. I don’t know, it’s just me talking here.

One thing for sure, this “thug” mentality crap is an insult to life and creation.

How many more need to die before it ends?

With a lack of financial funding to hire professionals for editing, and a graphic designer to create an eye-catching book cover, he embarked on a literary journey relying on his God-given writing talents alone, determined to accomplish what he always started, but never seemed to finished.

“Knight of Deception,” his first self-published novel, had been in project status a decade too long, so this time around he was determined to complete it and make it available for the public. Unlike those first unsuccessful attempts he was armed with clear direction after searching and finding on the internet, one simple suggestion, posted by an anonymous writer that resonated and made perfect sense–Every story had a beginning, a middle, and an end. It was a simplistic formula that helped him organize his literary thoughts, and once he had it thoroughly digested, he was able to organize his thoughts, and develop an interesting storyline that would keep him captivated throughout the creative process. His ambition finally had the perfect outline, and he followed the path without straying one single step. It was a formula he followed five straight times in six month, and the feat caught the attention of Blog Talk Radio host, Robert Wesley Branch, who asked him why he wrote that many books in such a short period of time. He answered with one short response; inspired.

At that time he had no idea why it seemed to fascinate so many people, but over time he finally understood why. With so many books you would think that enormous sales would follow, but he learned quickly that he had entered an extremely competitive marked filled with established and budding writers. Another sobering reality included the revelation of how daunting the task of promoting his product was.

Technology shifted the entire literary market and leveled the playing field.. E books were now dominate and the prices for novels plummeted. Big publishers started loosing control and could no longer monopolize the market. Most of the established authors who had already established strong relationships with their readers still retained a mass following; however, with a new competitive market that offered self-publishing avenues, a new breed of writers were allowed to emerge.

Pay to print was now an option, so any writer with talent and a dream now had the opportunity to self-publish and release their own work without going through all the scrutiny and rules established by publishing giants. This user-friendly venturous avenue eliminated the need for upfront money, because it offered an array of freebies that gave the self-published author basic publishing tools that allowed them to design and release a complete product.

Self-Publishing unlocked an ambitious courage that had been laying dormant for much of my life. In the beginning all I had was my literary gift, but diligence, determination, and raw passion have propelled me into creative avenues that were once foreign.

You have been there for as long as I can remember. I remember, before her passing, almost 30 years ago, that you captured the heart and imagination of both her & I. I was ten, and she was just eight. I held on to that cassette tape for awhile — the one that had the “Watermelon Song” recording she sang, the song we both created together.

I can still hear her frustrated shrills in my mind, a reaction to my teasing.

I used to tease her so.
A terminal foreigner called Leukemia appeared on our doorstep one day, and he staked his claim.

It started off as a little lump in her inner thigh, but soon it became a dismal prognosis.
You know, I used to play that cassette over and over, because I didn’t want to let go of her.

Eventually, the tape wore out and snapped in two, and all that remained were the memories I kept in my mind of her and I, and our song.
You have been there for as long as I can remember…

Author, Alvin Bernard Curl is currently putting the finishing touches on his first full-length fiction novel, “EX’POSED… When the Truth Tells Lies“, and he allowed me the honor of reading his manuscript. Why he put some much trust in me early on is pretty much unheard of in this business, but I must say that it was like a breath of fresh air. I’m glad I could be there to support his efforts to break into this very competitive literary game.

A little bit more about how we met. We crossed paths on Facebook, and it took a few posts for us to step out and really start communicating with one another but, needless to say, we connected. After our first discussion I knew I wanted Alvin to be a guest on “A Touch of Grace“. He is one, charming, kind, bright, and loving young man who is demonstrating a inner-courage that only a few will ever exhibit in this lifetime. He has written a book and now stands on the brink of success.

Of his literary journey, Alvin said, “It’s not about me.” This is what he told me during the first conversation we had. He really is a remarkable young man…

Something I’ve had to learn the hard way. When certain people leave your life, it’s for the better. You might be baffled at the time, trying to understand why and how quickly it happened but, over time, you began to realize that, their seasonal presence was just that, for a season. And when they knock on your door again… you must decide for yourself if they deserve entry back in again. I have found that, for the most part, the departure was meant for a reason and that re-entry is, probably, most likely, not going to happen. It doesn’t mean that you hate them, it means that you’ve learned to love yourself a bit more than you did at that time. It’s easy to forgive, but oh so hard to forget.

When on tour of a children’s hospital today… I tell you, there are some remarkable people in this world, making it happen for the ill and terminally ill. They won’t miss school, nor the prom… I teared up as I was taking that tour. Just knowing that this globe holds so many compassionate people. Last night I interviewed an independent recording artist by the name of Darien Dean on my self-produced, Blog Talk Radio Show, “A Touch of Grace”. Tomorrow, I’ll get to hear a world leader speak. I have to tell you, sometimes I have to pinch myself about the blessings I’ve been given over the course of this life. It’s not easy sometimes for any of us, but know that those tough times don’t last for long. Never be a victim of a past circumstance — make peace with it, and free yourself from bondage.
