Trapez se a unido al selecto grupo de los sellos de música electrónica de baile que han alcanzado las 100 referencias en su haber. Una cifra que no se alcanza ni por casualidad ni por empeño. En una escena tan “minoritaria” y underground como la electrónica solo se puede sobrevivir y alcanzar esa cifra si se tiene una gran calidad en las producciones y el público responde en la pista, sin olvidar claro está, el respaldo de los DJ’s, que son los que compran el producto en su mayor parte, y también de aficionados al género en una parte menor. Todos esos ingredientes se han dado para que Trapez llegue a este aniversario.
Fue en el año 2000 cuando Riley Reinhold y Jacqueline Klein fundaron el label en Colonia (Alemania) y en estos 9 años y pico han publicado los tracks de gente como Akufen, Gabriel Ananda, Alex Under, Jeff Samuel, Oliver Hacke, Shinedoe…
Para conmemorar esta cifra, han decidido que la referencia 100 sea un recopilatorio.

Karmarouge Presents :
Luciano, Ricardo Villalobos and Anja Schneider put Vienna’s The Vegetable Orchestra through the blender on The Vegetable Orchestra – Remixed next month.

The Vegetable Orchestra is a group of eleven musicians, one cook and one sound engineer who use instruments constructed from vegetables. Think carrot flutes, cabbage leaf kazoos and pepper trumpets. The group first invited some of dance music’s heavyweights to cook up new recipes using sounds from their album Automate in 2005, and now the fruits of their labour will be released on CD.

Remixed includes previously issued remixes from Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano and Oliver Hacke as well as new concoctions from Mobilee chef Anja Schneider (‘Carrot Cuts Mix’) and Karmarouge kitchen hand Sian (‘Secret Garden Mix’). Award for the best remix name, however, still belongs to Basteroid for his Human Leak remix.

Gisternacht stond de Westergasfabriek voor de laatste keer dit weekend in vuur en vlam met de B2B editie van Awakenings. Ik ging er heen en keek vooral uit naar de B2B-set van Joel Mull en Adam Beyer. Achteraf waren de sets van Dominik Eulberg en Gabriel Ananda en Daniel Sanchez en Karotte even goed, mogelijk nog beter.

Desondanks nam ik voordat ik wegging naar Awakenings als opwarmer de laatste releases van Mull en Beyer door in een mix. Die kun je hier downloaden. Dit is dus geen officiële mix, maar het blijven fantastische producties.

Over twee weken is er weer een nieuwe editie van Awakenings in de Westergasfabriek, met op vrijdag een Japan-avond (o.a. Ken Ishii, Takkyu Ishino, Takaaki Itoh), zaterdag een 1997-2001 special (live-set van James Ruskin en Remy die afsluit) en een B2B special. De avond van zaterdag was al snel uitverkocht en even later volgde de zondagavond. Voor de Japan-avond zijn nog kaarten te koop voor 37,50€.

Non ha di certo bisogno di presentazioni, Mr. Gabriel Ananda, fuori già da un po con la sua ultima release, sicuramente una delle sue migliori produzioni, mahtma regatta è un piccolo capolavoro particolareggiato da un piano distorto, Rattamahatta è pura adrenalina da pista con un bassline quasi electro-clash.

Already when he was a little boy Gabriel Ananda was into music. Gabriel had his first serious encounter with music during a fever rush, listening to Classical music which made him notice the relativity of things for the first time. That happened at the age of 8 years.

His somewhat involuntary cello instruction did not avail but his passion for music found its ways when he was 16 and played songs of Nirvana on his guitar. However his dream of becoming an international rockstar did not come true. But there also was this passion for minimal music à la Steve Reich and the fascination for electronic sounds.

Thus he went on his journey to find his vision of music, which he couldn’t find for two years until he was priviledged to experience a premium DJ-Set by Sven Vaeth in 1995. This was his crucial experience and Gabriel Ananda began experimenting in electronic sounds. Two years later he had his first release on the German Label Hörspielmusik followed by now over twenty 12″ releases on imprints like Trapez, Utils, Substatic, Treibstoff and last but not least Karmarouge Records.

Refreshingly different from the common Techno mainstream Gabriel Ananda breaks hearing-habbits using well dosed deep structured sounds. Connoisseur of the uncommon enjoy his straight and fiddly cool beats. Definitions become useless if Techno, House and Dub merge together like in Gabriel Anandas productions. “Acoustic elements give a personal note to my electronic music”. This guy knows how to electrify the partycrowd with his live sets and how to pull them into his spell. There are no stylistic boundaries for Gabriel Ananda, except his own versatile musical taste.

As the support live and dj act of the Jeff Samuel tour in Spring 2004, Gabriel Ananda introduced himself to an international audience. Thereafter he recently hit the jackpot by placing his release ‘Süssholz’ as No.1 in the german DJ-charts of the Groove Magazine and making it into the playlists of just about every DJ in 2004. Thus made him one the rising stars from the well known cologne minimal house scene and a high frequently booked dj and live artist, now playing in clubs all over europe.

Hace unos años actuó en el Festival Sónar (Barcelona) un grupo austriaco formado por un ingeniero de sonido, un cocinero y nueve músicos que tenían como particularidad que no tocaban instrumentos ni electrónicos ni tradicionales, sino instrumentos hechos por ellos mismos a partir de hortalizas. Aquel grupo, The Vegetable Orchestra, tocaba temas propios y versiones ajenas como una de Kraftwerk hecha con zanahorias, pepinos, pimientos y tomates como única ayuda, y la verdad es que la cosa, además de exótica, tenía algunos momentos de brillantez sonora.

Esa propuesta de la Vegetable Orchestra ha calado muy hondo entre el sector electrónico, tanto es así que Gabriel Ananda pidió hace un par de años unos remixes para publicarlos en maxi en su sello Karmarouge, y que muy gustosamente accedieron a grabar nombres importantes como Luciano o Ricardo Villalobos.

El experimento, en todo caso, no se quedó ahí, y la gente de Karmarouge siguió encargando más remezclas que el mes que viene (Abril 2008) aparecerán en un disco titulado “The Vegetable Orchestra remixed” –muy original– con nuevas aportaciones de Anja Schneider, Martini Bros, Sian o Basteroid. Remezclas vegetales en las que se consigue música con sabor vegetariano.
