Okay, for the last few weeks Twitter has allowed a small group to test out the new “Lists” feature.  It groups up your followers, basically, and allows others to see who you have on a list.  The concept is great, maybe because it’s new.  We will be looking for a search feature to include these list and more social networking tools from the micro-blog giant.   Lets analyze the change.

Your followers and following section has now changed.  It has formally recognized the word tweet by calculating the number of “tweets” sent, under the username.  Now the previous spot this has came from “updates” is now filled with “Lists”.  I guess they hope us to create many to make this number large.  List are also viewed above the Trending Topics of the Day section.  This concept of Lists will play an important role in Follow Friday, if not completely take over as a 24/7 follow friday spotlite on many users’ pages.   The feature also lets you know exactly how many followers per list. THE STORY:

Wow, what a story.  The scoop is… T-mobile customers have experienced data loss after Microsoft updates the servers for Danger Sidekick Cell Phones.  Customers that have let their phone’s battery die completely out or may have taken the battery pack out, have been hit with loss data of contacts, text messages, and more.  T-mobile has been franticly trying to recover the data to avoid the backlash, but seems unsuccessful to restore the data.  For that matter, a refund of one month of data services ($20) will be given to the customers.  Also, a $100 gift card is offered in recent days as the recovery process was unpromising.  As I researched further, I found that T-Mobile is not even selling the sidekick until this mess is being resolved.  Personally, I use the sidekick and have had data losses, but my info wasn’t really important as others.  I will take the refund and gift card as I hope to even purchase the newest Sidekick released this pass May 13.  Just because I give them another chance, I don’t know if other customers will be so nice, or even the comeback attempts of Microsoft who was mixed into the errors as well.  Read more below and share this on Twitter by the Retweet logo, too.  We are bit.ly/thatblog  please revisit!

WHAT IS GOOGLE VOICE?

The Battle Continues, Google, MS, Apple, Yahoo, Gear up!

Okay, I’m a PC, and this is getting good, lol.  Yes, Microsoft has fell asleep at the wheel the last 3, maybe 5, years, with a sorry operating system and virtually all other software left untouched with minor upgrades.  I waited for major changes as I stuck with XP as long as I could and microsoft office made me an expert after messing with it for a day or two because it was similar to the previous version. Now Microsoft has toughened up and aggressively hopes to reestablish its tech mojo.  I guess they felt the attack on a growing industry that couldn’t really be predicted at times and Google’s empire is surely big now. That attack was led by Apple trying for marketshare and mocking Microsoft’s flaws in commercials aimed for the youth.  Apple has a high quality product, yet expensive, as Microsoft has the power to offer cheap products that are already a platform for many users, even businesses.

Apple’s iPhone has the most impact today, u notice it’s the center of many new technologies.  Apple App’s is the fast growing arena as the mobile industry’s smartphone taps the internet for extended functions.  AT&T and Apple’s long relationship has helped the iPhone find light.  Google nerds have attempted to add their new app, Google Voice, that would give users power to control phone function through one central number from Google.  Apple has rejected, or should we say “still reviewing” the app, as they feel the threat to their current vision in the mobile industry with AT&T.  This battle has continued for months with the FTC stepping in to investigate the fairness of this conflict.

Well today, Google wheeled and dealed with Verizon, announcing a partnership to launch Google phones for the Verizon Network, can you hear me yet? This deal includes the Google Android, Google Wave, and Google Voice wrapped up in the new cellular phones.  I think this is a good pair as both of these companies have shown tremendous innovation and skills in the tech industry.

We will see where this leads Microsoft as they have acquired a great chunk of Yahoo, making a great deal as well.  Microsoft and Yahoo threaten Google who all need to move quickly.  Yahoo announced millions of dollar set aside for advertising in upcoming months that should bring the attention back to them.  Microsoft is back in the mix with mobile operating systems and even more, a new operating system for PC’s, Windows 7.  If you purchase a computer this year with Vista, you should receive a free upgrade to Windows 7 as they try to establish their innovation again.  Students can purchase it for a very cheap price as well as other Microsoft products, just as Adobe does.  Look out for Adobe their gaining ground with their Design Programs, TweetDeck, Flash, and Acrobat which is on most computers.  Microsoft has talked alot and hasn’t really gave us nothing to be impressed with, but let’s watch closely when Oct. 22 bring Windows 7.  Well that sums up the techie news and a nice list of resources are below if you want great deals from these companies as they battle to bring low prices to consumers.  Who said capitalism is dead? lol

GMAIL FAIL

VIDEO NEWS REPORT:  SEPT 2

Google’s Gmail failed today, from about 12:30 p.m. PDT Tuesday to about 2:30 p.m. PDT.  The outage was due to miscalculation of the traffic, servers became flooded and shut down.  These servers were set to handle scheduled maintenance, but the routers that redirects them was not properly aligned. Millions depend on this service as Google is one of the best in its field, even business mail suffered a much needed service failure as well.  Gmail is now back on track and is causing some chatter on Twitter as a Trending Topic.

“As we now know, we had slightly underestimated the load which some recent changes (ironically, some designed to improve service availability) placed on the request routers — servers which direct web queries to the appropriate Gmail server for response” ~ Google  (Google Blog Post)

The new Facebook 3 app provides a host of great tools to access your facebook network.  This includes:  video uploads, a new home screen, add  profile pages, create and zoom into photo albums, easily access search and notifications, continue a messages after interrupted by a phone call and plenty more. Now I’m a fair guy, so lets talk about the bad parts too, lol.  There is a glitch in playing facebook uploaded videos, even though many smartphones suffer problems as well.  The error message displays saying “The video can not be play yet, on this device”.  However, Youtube videos are imported and the link is played through this App. Some have complained that the update did not work at all, even after deleting and reinstalling.  One person even said chat feature caused a shut down. Overall, its a great app, when its up and running, and better than the 2.5. The new App is available for download at the iTunes store, or click here.

Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is HERE!

Apple is back at it, much anticipated from conferences this year that introduced everyone to Mac’s new OS, Snow Leopard.  Great timing as Microsoft 7 is slated to come out soon.  The Mac program has been lingering around, but the greatest update is upon us, Aug 28.  The funny part is the price, as $29 bucks seems like nothing for all the features crammed into Snow Leopard. What’s the catch? You must be a prior Leopard user or it’ll cost $169.  They also say it’s not good for business, but personal computers will love the new integration of programs similar to Windows. Just think Safari 4, Quicktime Player X, TextEdit, Mail, and iChat, now even better. It tweaks programs and makes speed a priority.  No serial numbers when installing, browsers won’t crash just the plug-ins, and Adobe will be mad at the Mac’s PDF previewer which is rumored to be better. And lastly, Snow Leopard’s technology includes “Grand Central Dispatch” that makes the OS fast, reliable, and less problematic, by aiding each program’s processes with less chunks of memory. Wii Ware is video game services offered to Nintendo users to get more games.  Users can download a game from the Wii Shop Channel, then it’s downloaded to their internal memory card.  The most popular game sold as of 2009 is World of Goo. Most games are priced in Nintendo Points 500-1500. Developers can participate in creating apps or games by purchasing their $2000 kit and become approved by the company.  Kinda pricey, but now possible. Today, Eric Schmidt had enough and finally decides to split the Apple side as Board of Directors. Apple & Google are part of an investigation by the FCC as they starting to rival.  The recent attempt from Google to include an iphone App “Google Voice” was unsuccessful as Apple cited different policies that blocked the Apps from being included in the Apple store.  This has frustrated Google as Microsoft launches business strategies to undercut Google fans with Bing.com, a new word processing apps similar to Google Docs added value features, and the deal with Yahoo which includes advertising & more search engine help.  Not only is Google mad, but the FCC has decided to investigate the matter.  Currently, the FCC analyzes links between the Apple Corp and AT&T company, as they appear to be tight knit as their history should make them close friends… but was it enough to block Google from stepping into their territory with “Google Voice”.  As the resignations, new product releases, & strategies behind them flare up, something is cooking up… and the FCC is the food inspector! lol We’ll see if the company’s clean it up and bring the heavy competition growing into the end of 2009.  Check out some articles from main media below!

Look what Eric Schmidt Said in MAY about resigning! Things change!

So the battle heats up! Microsoft vs Google and somewhere in there is Apple and the little guys.  In recent weeks, Google announced the Chrome OS operating system for netbooks that would align to compete with Microsoft Windows.  Google has dipped in every field since becoming web giants with rumors they are even helping design cars.  Microsoft has took offense and has came out of the wood works to finally unveil some powerful changes to their company strategy.  Google is trying to two-step with the giants by annoucing their ad campaign of “Going Google”.  It near as plain looking as Mac’s attempt to stop the monopolistic Microsoft Corp.  Microsoft has been vulnerable after Vista, but looks geared up to compete harder.

Vista is passing and now Microsoft has announced cloud based Apps for their Office lineup.  This will compete with Google Apps which has been gain ground in the word processing-web world.  Microsoft has also complete a long awaited deal with Yahoo that would allow a 10 year ad campaign and shared search engine support to help both companies grow.  The deal includes 88% revenue to Yahoo, which needs it since stocks has been slowed, and gives Microsoft more leverage to take aim at the web market.

Now, Google has launched a new ad campaign to protect their online Apps.  Its called “Going Google” and alot of people are doing it.  Personally, I’ve always liked Google, but don’t know if they can top the Microsoft Corp, even though they have made amazing progress.  Microsoft is a monopoly and now has good competition to bring out the best features and prices to the customers.

The ad campaign will start in major cities, targeting traffic by changing billboards with messages as seen in the photo above.  Will this be enough to stay in the game & keep your ground?  We’ll see!  Apple has been successful keeping their luxury line of laptops and phones, will they move to video gaming or more consumer electronics?
