El punto es que el día de hoy leyendo Applesfera me di cuenta que los rumores sobre el iPod Touch con cámara, han resurgido de las cenizas como esta mítica ave; con el único motivo de alborotar a los Fanboys de Apple y uno que otro escritor de blog.

Según la página, Apple no lanzo el iPod Touch con cámara en su pasada Keynote del 9 de Septiembre, pues tenian problemas con los sensores y al parecer ya estan solucionados dichos problemas.
La fecha de su posible salida al mercado seria en la primavera del 2010.
De nueva cuenta esta en duda el tipo de cámara que incorporará el nuevo iTouch, muchos dicen que sera como la del actual iPod Nano y otros como la del iPhone 3GS.
Pues si de verdad van a sacar un ipod con cámara pues espero que sea como la del iPhone 3GS, aunque lo más probable es que sea como la del iPod Nano; además espero que aparte de las fotos pueda tomar video para subirlo a YouTube o a Facebook.
Solo queda esperar la primavera del 2010, y si se confirman los rumores, me esperare para comprarme un iPod Touch con cámara de 64GB.

Now that fresh berries are no longer available, I plan to be eating a lot of pineapple this winter. Now the only problem with pineapple is having to slice it. Every generation makes fun of the next, it seems. With my generation, it was bell-bottoms, long hair and rock music that had adults poking fun.

These days, I find myself as the critical adult; shaking my head at kids walking around with their faces buried in the mini screen of some electronic device. I ask myself, “How do these youngsters learn how to socialize and do they even play with one another anymore?” Not having children of my own has me wondering what kids do to entertain themselves outside of their digital devices. From my vantage point, it seems as though many children rely on gadgets to keep them occupied. As the adults surrounding my generation of the 1960’s asked, “What is rock and roll doing to the minds of kids today?” I’m asking the current generation of youngsters, “How enriching can life be when you’re spending hours and hours playing with electronic devices?”

I recall snickering at a cartoon I saw in a local newspaper depicting a family stuffed in a mini van. They had arrived at the Grand Canyon and the parents were mortified to see their children totally disinterested in the grandeur of the canyon as they frantically popped the keys of some electronic device. Funny cartoon but the underlying notions are two-fold: Electronic games and phones are more important than the outside world and we missed the richness of a real-life encounter.

I’m not a social scientist nor am I a psychologist but I’m concerned what may become of human interaction as we once knew it: more face to face encounters, more experiential with respects to direct environment; visually, kinesthetically as well as auditory. What I mean to ask is, I wonder what synthetic experience takes away from organic experience? Take the neighborhood I grew up in as a case and point.

For one thing, the adults begged us to get outside and play and play we did! The streets I grew up on had kids galore outside playing with one another. We played games we either made up or had been passed down from generation to generation: hide and seek, tag, red light/green light, dodge ball, kick ball, street hockey and the list goes on and on.

From these real time interactive games I believe we learned how to use our imaginations in a real situation, with real people and that must make a difference in how we deal with one another as human beings. For example, conflict resolution. With games come cheating and with cheating, arguments arise. We didn’t have the luxury to hit a reset button to start the game over. We had to solve our differences on the spot. The results weren’t always favorable or amicable but regardless, the raw human experience of face to face interaction created bonding. We formed ideas about one another based on how we played. We learned how to earn and give trust to one another and I think that is a huge importance in socialization.

Perhaps the biggest benefit of playing with who and what you have in the real world is economic. I’m sure the latest digital games are expensive! In my neighborhood, we often made things from the ground up further engaging our creative minds. What’s more is we built things that existed in the physical world adding value to the overall experience. For example, my older brother and I built a go-cart out of an old baby carriage. This started a wave of creativity in our neighborhood. Go-carts of every style, function and color began to appear out of the garages of many. We held races, contests and entered the go-carts in local parades. No A.D.D. here! Just plain-old ingenuity and real time fun! Another example of creativity in action: one time, several boys and myself found a trash barrel full of round, blunt-ended curtain rods which of course, became swords. Who brandishes swords? Pirates! We ended up building a pirate ship out of scrap wood and dressed up in total pirate garb and proceeded to create an entire world of characters and scenes based on a simple find in the trash! Another trash “score” had a friend and I spray-painting one another totally silver. From there, we became visitors from another planet and punished for almost “suffocating our skin, which kills aliens” according to Mom. Again, chock up real time exploration to the experience of learning!

Just as my generation turned out “OK”, for the most part, I’m sure the digital age kids will be just fine too. After all, rock and roll didn’t turn us into the total anarchists as many adults believed. However; rock did change my generation to a certain degree. Some would argue rock had a negative influence and some would argue rock was a great way to learn how to question authority. Regardless, it had an effect on an entire generation. I just hope today’s generation and future generations have the opportunities to experience the richness life has to offer outside a blue screen As I finish typing this blog message on my laptop, I realize that I have become “digitized” too. Perhaps we should all pay more attention to real time!

This is the video camera we borrowed from the law school to film our professional responsibility video. Little did I know these flip video cameras are all the rage and I wasn’t in on the party. After borrowing this nifty little guy from the law school I’ve seen advertisements for flip’s HD mino on various webpages and even here on wordpress.

After looking at their website and reading some reviews I like these little video cameras and I kinda want one. I don’t think the one we used for school was the HD model but generally both the quality and sound were really good. Once we zoomed in really close the picture got a bit fuzzy. Again, the one we used may have been an older model or something. I’m not really sure. Anyone have any experience with them?

The folks at GoodGuide are just out of the gate with their website and iPhone app, and I’m sure they’ll get hacked on details of their methodology, but what a killer app! I’m sure as they refine and define their ratings, this (or this type of) app will be huge – like carrying a green consumer reports database in your pocket.

Este tipo de noticias son de esas que no sabes ni como catalogarlas ya que pueden ser de salud, curiosidades y quejas acerca de algún gadget. Paseando por el blog de salud de MH me encontré con la nota de que ya son varios los casos de lesiones por jugar tenis o box con el Nintendo Wii.

El principal problema que se ha encontrado es de la tendinitis en codo y en hombro, muy semejante a la que padecen los jugadores reales y el tratamiento es absolutamente igual.

Por mi parte jamás he sentido atracción por esta consola y mucho menos después de saber que causa accidentes y lesiones ¿quién no recuerda el video del tipo que rompe la pantalla por jugar con el Wii?

Así que muchachos si ustedes juegan este tipo de juegos en esta consola será mejor que se compren sus vendas y coderas para evitar lesiones más adelante.

most important – since its window based – it kawan with my notebook and wif my HP pda. so i can sync all my contact details, appointments,calendar,files etc to n fro the phone. sangat membantu.

it also got one superb application that really cool. use the camera, snap the peoples name card (which i collect hundreds over the years) then the phone will convert and export the data to the phone contact list. all those nama, alamat,company name, email, address and bla bla bla.no need to type type lagi dah. then using the built in google maps and/or garmin – select that person name, click few buttons and viola… the phone will guide u turn by turn till u sampai the persons office…. sangaaat suuuka.

can check my emails… outlook,streamyx and also the gmails. built in mini opera and internet explorer  to baca/write blogs muahahaha. fesbuk oso have…

weather function that grabs weather forecasts from the net and display to the phone. meaning that if tomorrow u ada appointment in PJ, if PJ will hujan, it will mention to u that it might rains in PJ…. cool

- it might had something to do with celcom though. no service on last saturday evening.. i hope its celcom problem.

- the battery needs to recharge every two days lebih kurang. but the plus point is it boleh tap power from notebook usb port and oso in my car charger. same charger as the HP GPS navigator

- earphone/speaker kena connect via usb port. will problem if need to connect other earphone/speakers

WOW, como fan totalmente declarado de RIM (Research In Motion) y sus Blackberry, estoy muy emocionado por este lanzamiento. Gracias a Crackberry.com tenemos las primeras imagenes del Blackberry Pearl 9100 codename “Stricker”.  Este dispositivo es la actualización de la linea tan famosa que saco a las Blackberry de ser solamente un artefacto para los trabajadores y de negocio, a ser un producto en masa.

Esta actualización incluye 3G, WIFI, teclado estilo SureType (half-QWERTY), el nuevo trackpad y el sistema operativo 5.0; que sin duda ya que pude probarlo es muy buen sistema operativo y corrige algunos errores de los OS 4.6 y 4.7.

Este lanzamiento aun no es oficial, pero se dice que RIM sacara entre este y el proximo año 16 nuevos telefonos inteligentes.  Los primeros de esta linea son el Blackberry Bold 9700 y el Blackberry Storm 9550, con nuevos diseños y caracteristicas de sus antecesores.

Yo la verdad, de esta linea solamente he podido jugar un rato con el Blackberry Bold 9700 y puedo decir, que mi Bold anterior (el 9000) me gustaba mucho mas. Sobre el nuevo Storm eh escuchado maravillas, pero no creer hasta ver…

Zune 80gb vs Ipod Touch

Desde hace unas semanas no me había puesto a pensar sobre las alternativas que se tienen fuera del monopolio de Apple con sus diferentes iPods; pero todo esto cambio cuando por primera vez en mi vida me asaltaron (y gracias a dios) lo único que se llevaron fue mi iPod Touch.

Desde que salió la primera generación del iTouch, me he mantenido fiel (no asì con mis celulares) a esta marca y el aparato me parece fantástico. Desde la pantalla sùper responsiva, hasta la calidad del sonido, el Browser y la calidad de las apps, puedo decir que nunca estuve tentado a comprar un iPhone, por lo mismo de que ya tenia todo lo que necesitaba en un pequeño paquete.  Y como menciono todo esto cambio cuando me vi obligado a pensar en diferentes alternativas.

Veran, yo hago casi 6 horas de camino a la Universidad, (3 de ida y 3 de regreso) y sin música todo esto seria lo peor que podría pasarme, so, sin dinero y en tiempos de crisis pensé en comprarme un iPod Video o un Classic, pero nunca me han llamado la atención y para otro iTouch, sentía que quería algo nuevo y algo que pudiera contener toda mi música, vídeos y películas.

Asi llegue a una de mis paginas favoritas Cnet.com a buscar reviews de reproductores multimedia y llegue a la conclusión de que el que mas me llamaba la atención era el ZUNE HD, pero dadas mis condiciones económicas, el ZUNE 80GB era mi mejor opción. Ahora el único problema es que estos dispositivos no se venden fuera de EU, pero siendo un verdadero comprador en EBAY y ML, me di a la tarea de buscar uno y a mi suerte encontré uno nuevo a $2000.00 pesos.  Lo compre y después de 1 dia me llego. Puedo decir que hasta ahora es una de las mejores compras que he hecho. Sin duda es grande pero no es nada pesado y tiene una pantalla casi del tamaño del iTouch y la capacidad de almacenamiento ni se diga. Entonces, les dejo los + y – de estos gadgets:

ZUNE:

• El Zune tiene 80Gb, el iTouch 64Gb
• El sistema operativo de escritorio es mucho mejor que iTunes
• Tiene radio
• Es facil importar cualquier tipo de música y video
• Tiene un sonido superior
• Trackpad fácil de navegar
• Excelentes audífonos

iTouch:

• Es mas pequeño y ligero, refinado y “limpio”
• La pantalla es absolutamente preciosa (aunque no se compara con la de la Blackberry Bold o Storm)
• Excelente sistema operativo en dispositivo
• La cantidad de aplicaciones que puedes bajar de todo tipo
• El browser es impresionante, y el Zune no tiene

Aunque mi iTouch tenia muchísimas aplicaciones y era touchscreen, puedo decir que hasta ahora el Zune me ha sorprendido bastante y sin duda considerare cambiarlo por el HD en cuanto tenga dinero, no recomendable para Maceros o compradores compulsivos de música digital.

Despues de meses de espera, la nueva Palm Pre ya esta en venta, de manera oficial en Iusacell; y es que ya desde hace algunos meses, podias comprarla en Ebay.com y configurarla para la red de Iusacell con la guia de la pagina PoderPDA.

Ahora de manera oficial (y antes que en Telcel), se vende este dispositivo que salvó a PALM de su inminente ruina, y ahora coloca a su sistema operativo como uno de los mas fuertes. Sin duda vale mucho la pena checarlo, y es una excelente alternativa al Symbian OS de los Nokia, o al Iphone 3GS. Para los Crackberry adictos (como yo) no creo que sea lo suficientemente fuerte como para cambiar, pero como menciono, vale mucho la pena checarlo.

Lo único que me detiene es el precio que rondara en los $7000.00 en plan, pero si no los tienes, en Ebay puedes conseguirlo en $250.00 Dolares. ¿Nada mal verdad?

Después de el lanzamiento de N97, Nokia nos presenta su segundo touchscreen de gama alta, que llegara a tiendas en la época navideña. Se trata del N900, el nuevo familiar de la N Series, y que es el primero que cuenta con el sistema operativo Maemo. Para no aburrirlos es todo lo que el N97 debio ser. un teléfono de lo mas interesante y seguramente un fuerte contendiente contra el Iphone 3GS.

The international version of the Amazon Kindle eBook reader is now available in Canada.

I ordered one and have been using it for four days now so I thought I’d write up some my initial thoughts. Ordering the Kindle is accomplished through the U.S. Amazon site (amazon.com vs. amazon.ca). The Kindle Store where you can order books online via a web browser is also accessed via the .com site. The Kindle Store is also available directly on the device. It allows you to search for books, read reviews, and even write reviews.

Text input is via a Blackberry-esque thumb QWERTY keyboard. While reading a book you can start typing at any time. A small search box appears at the bottom of the screen which allows you to search the current book, a dictionary, Google, and others. The keys are round and flush at the edge but raised slightly in the middle of each key. Most of a user’s time on the Kindle is spent reading so the keys are designed to be unobtrusive during normal reading which makes them less than ideal for typing compared to a input heavy device such as a Blackberry. I think this is a good compromise considering the screen is fundamentally different than the computer screens we are used to.

The screen is the key new technology that distinguishes eBook readers like the Kindle from other mobile devices like a netbook or an iPhone. The text is beautiful to read which becomes painfully obvious when moving to a laptop after reading the Kindle for an extended length of time.

The screen is very different than anything I am used to. It is not backlit so it requires external lighting just like a real book. In natural light, even bright sunlight, it is gorgeous. The downside is that page turns are relatively slow and result in a very brief all black flicker. These screens excel at displaying text or static grey scale images but could not keep up with the refresh rates of say video. The onscreen menu and search box seems to be pushing the limits of what the screen can display and acceptably refresh quickly.

The e-ink technology screens only require power to refresh the screen so unlike a mobile devices it does not need to turn the display off to conserve power. Long battery life results, especially if you turn the wireless off. While wireless is off you cannot download books and you cannot sync the latest position back to Amazon to pick up where you left off on one of the other supported platforms, PC, Mac-coming-soon, Blackberry-coming-soon, and iPhone.

Unfortunately for Canadians, the Kindle iPhone application is not yet available 

Books for the Kindle cost slightly less than the discounted paperback version. The downloads take only a few seconds on the 3G GSM network supported by the international Kindle. The cost of the wireless service is hidden in the price of the books. There has been some speculation on why Canada was left out of the initial launch of the international version. Canadian support was launched shortly after Bell and Telus went live with their new 3G GSM network though I could not find any information on whether Rogers or Bell/Telus is being used as the Canadian wireless carrier.

There is a US$0.99 per MB charge for personal files that are downloaded wirelessly to the Kindle (vs. US$0.15 per MB in the United States). This is done by e-mailing the original document to _yourname@kindle.com (e.g. radthoughts@kindle.com) which is then converted to the Amazon .azw format and sent wirelessly to your device. If you want to avoid this cost you can e-mail your documents to _yourname@free.kindle.com which converts the document and sends it to the e-mail address associated with your Amazon account. You can then transfer the .azw file to the Kindle via USB. When the Kindle is attached via USB port it appears as an external drive.

The button layout on the Kindle is quite usable. The 1st generation received a great deal of criticism for the placement of the large page turn buttons since it was quite easy to accidentally turn pages while handling the device. The 2nd generation uses buttons that can only be depressed on the inside edge so it minimizes this problem. The Kindle can be easily read and pages changed with one hand and with its light weight it is easier to handle that a traditional paperback.

The software interface is controlled from a combination of a 5-way directional button, Home button, Menu button, Back button, and some QWERTY buttons (e.g. font size). The UI is quite useable but my first impression is that it could have been cleaner. I miss page numbers. Your location in a book is represented at the bottom of the screen as a percentage, a progress bar, and a strange canonical numbering system that works across the six different font sizes. Locations 1138-41 of 6664 just doesn’t stick in my brain, perhaps it will with time.

Overall I’m really happy with the Canadian Kindle. Its a superb reading device that works well outdoors and removes the need for the bag of books that I carry when travelling or spending time at the cottage.

Gente, todos nós sabemos que é difícil conhecer alguém que não goste de gadgets. Infelizmente, no Brasil enfrentamos problemas para comprar esses “vícios” com preço justo, não é mesmo? Bom, através de um Blog que achei, encontrei uma tabela que pode representar muito bem esses preços tão desiguais! Não quero explicar detalhadamente o motivo desses preços serem tão desiguais, pois posso errar. Afinal, não sou um expert no assunto. Sabe, essas diferenças me incomodam taaanto…

Essas coisas me deixa muito chateado…

Porque apesar de ter uma diferença nos preços dos países no mundo todo, no Brasil, essa diferença é “gritante”.
