FANS of Irish singer Daniel O’Donnell started queuing for tickets TWO DAYS before they went on sale.

A group of around 20 admirers were patiently waiting outside the Usher Hall in Edinburgh tonight (Friday) and many had been there since Thursday.

Mainly ladies, they came armed with padded deck-chairs, sleeping bags and waterproofs as they waited for tickets to go on sale tomorrow morning (Saturday).

Anne Meehan, 64, and her husband Peter had travelled from Northumberland to bag their favourite front row seats, arriving at 9.30pm on Thursday.

“Fell in love”

Anne said: “I have lost count of the number of concerts we have been to, it is well over 150 now.

“I first went to see Daniel in Newcastle about 20 years ago. We didn’t used to go to as many but then we started queuing for tickets and it just got more and more.

“I keep all my tickets and if they are good seats I take note so I know what to ask for next time.

“The first time I heard Daniel I was on a bus trip and the driver put on a tape of Irish music. He was on it singing ‘I Need You’ and I just fell in love with it.”

And Anne has met Daniel a number of times – the singer has got to know his most loyal fans by chatting to them after his shows.

“Just lovely”

Anne added: “One night after the show I said to Daniel ‘You didn’t play I Need You’.

“The next night he got up on stage and said ‘I got told off for not playing this last night’, and then he sang ‘I Need You’.

“It was just lovely.”

The couple have travelled from their home as far as Brentwood, Essex, and Aberdeen to watch the singer.

They have made the trip across the sea to Killerney, Ireland, to see Anne’s idol.

Peter added: “It is nice to see different parts of the country. You see towns that you would not see otherwise.”

“Worth it”

Another staunch supporter of the Irish heartthrob is Gael McLeod, 51, from Edinburgh.

Although she has only seen the singer in the capital, she always queues to ensure she gets the best seats.

Gael said: “I like to sit in the front row, you have to queue for them. We have all worked out who is sitting where so there is no fight over them.”

And she said that they were all well prepared for the cold weather and rowdy Friday night revellers.

She added: “We know what we are doing now – we have queued so many times before.

“I have got my layers on and hot drinks in my flask.

“We have had problems before with the crowd on a Friday night but it is not so bad this year because of the building works in front of the Usher Hall.

“You only get an hour’s sleep here and there but it is worth it for Daniel O’Donnell.”

Tickets for the show on May 7 go on sale at 9am tomorrow morning (Saturday).

After a big win against the Cougars on Wednesday night, the Aggies welcome the St. Mary’s Gaels to town.  The Gaels are a solid team from the WCC, which is quietly becoming a very good basketball conference.  The Gaels have one lose on the year a two point defeat at the hands of a very solid Vanderbilt team.  The Aggies are going to have to bring their “A” game in order for them to come out with their 38th straight home victory.

The Gaels are solid, but it does beg the question what’s a Gael? I really had no idea, but didn’t want to look foolish so I asked around.  I got a few responses that sounded reasonable, one person told me it was a type of bird, but they also asked not to be quoted.  Turns out a Gael is a Gaelic-speaking Celt in Ireland or Scotland or the Isle of Man, wow.  If you knew that congrats, I had no idea. This game should be a good one in front of another packed house at the Spectrum.  The Gaels are getting some votes and a win for the Aggies would garner some national attention, if it weren’t championship Saturday in college football.

Championship Saturday is going to be huge this weekend, both spots for the title game will be set this weekend with one spot going to the winner of Alabama and Florida.  Texas also can punch their ticket to the title tilt with a win against Nebraska.  It’s likely that Texas and Florida will meet one another in the title.  I think TCU deserves a shot at the national title and just might get that shot if Texas were to lose to Nebraska.  I am looking forward to the SEC championship game this year because I feel like there might be a Ian Johnson moment this weekend.  That moment I am predicting only happens if Florida wins though and Urban Meyer asks Tim Tebow for his hand in marriage.  Let’s just hope Mrs. Meyer is more understanding than Elin Woods.

Googling a bit about Gaël, I found a few interesting things about SciPy 2009 Conference.

ScipY 2009 Conference will take place at Caltech, in Pasadena, CA, from the 18th of August 18 to the 23.

Two key speakers will be there this year:

• Peter Norvig, Director of Research, Google
• Jon Guyer, Materials Scientist, Metallurgy Division, Thermodynamics and Kinetics Group, NIST

This year, I’ve used Python to do numeric calculs, solving a few ODE, and visualizing the results, and I was really impressed Python Scientific tool: this conference would be very interesting for those using programs as scientific tools!

Something caught my attention on the footer’s website. My brother is one of the webmaster… And one of the organisors of the conference this year… I also recognised the name of a bunch programmers who spend a week-end at my parents house last year to code…

Les 300 salariés de la plate-forme logistique Easysdis, à Gaël (entre Saint-Méen-le-Grand et Plélan-le-Grand), ont été mis au chômage partiel depuis lundi soir. Cette plateforme qui dessert une centaine de magasins, est bloquée par des agriculteurs depuis dimanche soir. Plus aucun camion ne peut y entrer ou en sortir. Face à l’impossibilité de livrer le moindre magasin, la direction du site a décidé de mettre le personnel au chômage partiel. Et ce, tant que durera le blocage. 

La peor reseña, no se porque no puedo encontrar palabras para describir esta pelicula solo que me dejo inconcluso, algo le falto y esto es lo unico q puedo decir.

Una pelicula que nos habala de la vida de los maras salvatruchas y de los inmigrantes que tratan de llegar a los united, la intencion de la pelicula es buena, pero creo que se pudo haber contando de una forma mas emocionante, no se pero no me convencio del todo. Siguiendo con la historia, son dos personas que se unen en el camino, uno tratando de huir de la mara y la otra tratando de llegar a USA. No se que mas decirle veanla y manden su opinion.

Cuenta con las actuaciones de: Edgar Flores, Kristyan Ferrer, Diana García, Tenoch Huerta y Paulina Gaytán.

Ésto fue en el Teatro Metropolitan de México D.F. ,donde se hizo la alfombra roja de la película de Gael,allí llegaron los actores entre muchos más famosos,y se portaron muy bien con el público asistente…
