Not everything we talked about with David Archuleta made it into the 17-31 July issue of Galaxie magazine. So as a bonus for you Archie fans, here’s the rest of the interview session…

Will you continue to write uplifting music or will it be something different for the new material? 

I think it can be motivating by being able to relate to people. And it be as real as it can. Be as true to me as it can. That’s just another thing that I’m looking forward to. Being able to have the music not just with the words I’m saying but the way it sounds. Music says so much. Classical music doesn’t have any words but it still says so much. I’m hoping to be able to really take time to define my sound, my music.

What’s the inspiration behind your new music?
The inspiration, I guess the best way to describe it is what’s on my mind. What’s going on in my head, it’s hard for me to explain sometimes and I feel like for the first time, I am kinda able to bring it out. I guess that’s the way I would describe the direction I’m going in right now.

You’ll be 21 this year. Any big plans?
No, not really [laughs]. I always like to go out and eat and spend time with my family and friends. Nothing too crazy. I like to keep it pretty low-key.

With so much going on right now, do you still have plans to go back to school?
Yeah, I don’t think that there’s ever a time when it is too late to go back to school. I would love to take music classes. I love the heart of music and the emotion but I never really got to understand the musical theory and the more technical side of music. That’s something I’d love to learn more about. Performing and putting out music is my No. 1 priority right now so that’s what I’m focusing most on. I’m a very spontaneous person unfortunately. A lot of times that can be a bad thing but I try to be sensitive to whatever I feel and whatever changes in what I feel I should do. And keeping in tune with whatever your instincts kind of say.

Have there been any celebs that have left you starstruck?
I was starstruck by Ringo Starr. I was so starstruck that I couldn’t even go up to him. I was pretty starstruck with Bono too.

We spoke to David Archuleta over the phone recently and he was such a joy to talk to.Not only was the soon-to-be 20-year-old articulate, he was accommodating and inspiring. We know there are a lot of Archie fans out there so here’s a bonus snippet of the interview session we had that did not make it into the magazine:

What were your first thoughts when you heard the idea of a David Archuleta book?
I was definitely thinking huh? I’m only a teenager. Teenagers don’t really write memoirs. Most people do that later in their lives so that was definitely a thing where I was thinking I don’t know if I should do this. But it was a time where I felt like I really could, not necessarily an autobiography or anything like that, it’s a book that because I hope I have more future to live with whatever happens in my life. It’s more about kinda like what I did with the new album, The Other Side Of Down. It was about explaining to people what I hope the future would be like and what I’m trying to accomplish. Hopefully people will get something out of it when they read it, especially kids my age because the teenagers are having a tough time trying to figure out there’s so many ways you can go and take the rest of your life. It’s about motivating people to take chances and go for things and to not let that voice inside of you say you can’t do this. Because I feel a lot of kids miss opportunities because they believe that and it’s like man, if I were to believe that voice and listen to it, I wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t be where I am right now.

Do you have a celebrity crush?
Not really. Ever since I was little I never really understood that. That doesn’t even make sense because I don’t even know them. How can you even have a crush on someone you haven’t even met? But I don’t know, maybe we’ll see in the future. (Laughs)

What are your plans for your 20th birthday come 28 December?
I don’t know, I guess it’s not like a huge birthday. You are leaving your teen years but not like 21 yet or anything. Every birthday and probably for the rest of my birthdays, I usually will just go and eat dinner with my family or whomever I’m with.

No huge party to usher in your 20s?
No, not really. For the last two or three years I had Thai food for dinner.

Have you considered acting on a musical TV show like Glee? Is that something that interests you?
I’ve kind of wondered about it because I think it would be fun to do. Coz getting into character and playing that part is a different way of telling the story. It’s not exactly your story but it’s cool to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and kind of live another life for a little bit. I think it would be really fun to do more of because all I’ve really done is guest appearances, as myself and I would like to try something a little more challenging.

BREAKING NEWS: KRIS ALLEN scores his first #1s on the Billboard charts. Billboard Magazine introduces 21 new digital genre charts this week and Kris is #1 on two of them: “Live Like We’re Dying” tops the new Christian Digital Songs chart & Christian/Gospel Digital Songs. KRIS ALLEN’s first two Billboard #1s make him the 25th Idol contestant to top a Billboard chart. And they bring the total of Idol to an amazing 265 (that’s counting every national, domestic chart compiled by Billboard).

Kris talks about performing at the Best of the South Gala (thanks @h2oconvo)

Kris Allen, the reigning American Idol and an Arkansas native, will perform at the gala.

“It is always nice to come home, but to actually come back home and to sing for the ones that supported me the most throughout the past year is so rewarding,” Allen wrote in an e-mail.

He said Southern culture has played a big role in his career, and he thinks it’s important to recognize the people, such as Freeman, who helped shape it.

“I was always really interested in music since I was young, and country music was one of the first genres of music that I got in to,” Allen wrote. “Also, some of the best parts about being raised and living in the South are the strong family values and Southern hospitality.”

Keith Urban mentions Kris going on tour with him this summer (thanks @tawneej)

‘American Idol‘ winner Kris Allen performs ‘Kiss a Girl‘ with Keith Urban on the season finale of the popular FOX show. We asked Keith what he thinks about the instant fame contestants get from competing on ‘Idol.’

I think you’re going to pay your dues no matter what. At the end of the day, there’s no real shortcut. It’s a different world … As an artist today, you’ve got to get any leg up that you can, and if ‘Idol’ gives somebody who’s genuinely talented that kind of leg up — like with Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood — then that’s a good thing. There are some hugely talented people out there who deserve to have record deals, and ‘Idol’ has produced a few of those already.

Kris is going to come out and play with us this year in Vegas. I’m really happy for him. He’s a good guy.

Foreman also co-wrote a song on Arkansas Native Kris Allen’s debut record.

Foreman added, “He’s got his own voice, and he’s trying to find what he’s saying, you know he’s a really young guy, and kinda has this whole scene thrust upon him, so that’s kinda what we wrote about, it’s a song called ‘Lifetime’.

Kris seems like a really sweet guy, you know.  It’s always an honor when somebody from a different place in life wants to write a song with you.”

Shirley agreed with Foreman saying, “I mean a great voice, a great performer, and to just come out of the gates having never performed, as far as like professionally, in front of that many people, to come out and do what he did was just amazing.“

In fact Shirley said he wouldn’t mind seeing Allen on tour with Switchfoot, “Yeah, I’m pulling for him man, I hope we can catch up with him on the road sometime, you know, I’m pulling for him.”

Yeah, I have no idea what Galaxie Magazine is either, but according to the poster from IDF, it’s a magazine that is circulated in Malaysia and Singapore.

I just like seeing Adam on the cover of any magazine! LOL Hey, that’s good promotion – wonder if he’s selling well in Asian countries? It would be very cool if he is!
