<title><![CDATA[HALF an update, to WHOLE of you ;)]]></title>

<h3 style="text-align:center;">Slackiest weekend ever&#8230; But at least its over and a more productive week can begin <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  (Who would have thought I would ever complain that I didnt work enough during the weekend ? <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':P' class='wp-smiley' />  )</h3>
<p>In this latest update I have added a work in progress 4th level (who am i kidding&#8230; all the levels are work in progress&#8230; the whole GAME is work in progress ;D )</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve remodelled the Yellow Gemstone in Blender, making it a more coin-ish appearance&#8230; And while I was in blender, I decided to have some fun with a Cube and the Extrusion Tool combined with a bit of scaling and rotating (yes, I am a total newbie at 3d modelling&#8230; So if you&#8217;re an expert and reading this&#8230; and suffering from an abundance of generosity, then dont hesitate to throw your leet skillz in my general direction <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' />  ) I havent added an actual Texturemap to the Firetrap model, as I have still yet to learn how to apply those kinds of things and I couldnt be arsed to learn it since I figured the actual coding at present time was more important <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_razz.gif' alt=':P' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Most of the levels also recieved tweaks here and there&#8230; I played through the maps alot, and also looked over the shoulders of various playtesters to try and figure out exactly where the maps are not making sense, and where you end up not knowing where to go.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve also played around with the PlayerPrefs system in Unity3d, which is basically a way of storing information on the user&#8217;s computer. Thereby allowing the game to remember specific things. In this case, the Highscore (Its not an Internet Highscore, it is simply YOUR personal highscore on YOUR computer&#8230; )</p>
<p>Its not perfect, but its a start. <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />  You&#8217;ll find the highscore meter at the start menu in the game, its not finished or polished, but it remembers the best score you did on that computer <img src='http://s.wordpress.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Oh, and finally, before I wrap up this blogpost, as you can probably see, I&#8217;ve also played around a little bit with the text formatting on the blogpost, let me know what you think&#8230; be it good, bad or in between. <p>Mainly it is a platformer where you have to move objects, destroy floors, manipulate chemicals, use automated guns and trigger beams that open doors. The interesting thing is, time travel platforms allow you to go back a certain amount of time. By doing this, you can create infinite instances of yourself that follow your former paths. To successfully master the levels you have to coordinate your actions with all your former selfes. Interacting with them might cause a temporal causality, but the game allows such transgressions and only give a score panelty for such acts.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Contrary to public belief, I have made prototypes these 2 months, but I just didn&#8217;t have enough time to finish them. Anyway, this months <a href="http://www.experimentalgameplay.com/" target="_blank">EGP</a> theme caught my attention. Art game. Nice. So I started working on my prototype. Interacting with a computer via microphone has always amazed me, so I tried to integrate that in my game.  This is what I came up in 7 days.</p>

Jump and Run has never before taken advantage of 3D space in this dimension. There are also additional puzzles that use changing gravity conditions.</p>

<p>Prey is a standard FPS, but introduced several new gameplay mechanics that changed the perception of space. It was the first game that came up with the idea of portals, although it utilized them in a static way. There are &#8220;wallwalks&#8221;, surfaces you can walk onto even when hanging from the ceiling. Some puzzles take place in areas where you have to set the gravity to move your body through space.  And a &#8220;spirit mode&#8221; allows you to leave your living body and see and use things that were invisible to you before.</p>

<p>This platform game works in two drifferent perspectives. You can switch between a flat 2D and a volumetric 3D view of the level while each of them works with it&#8217;s own logic. In 2D there is no depht, so all visible objects work like they would exist on the same Z level. Whereas in 3D space the spatial displacement allows you to get around obsticles and see parts of the level which are otherwise hidden by the flat sideview. Enemys have no depht at all and therefore just pose a thread in 2D or are just visible in 3D.</p>

<p>You are able to create two portals, which directly connect different places in space. That means if you step into the blue one, you come out of the orange one. This gameplay provides a totally new feeling of space. You make use of the gravity and your portals to either move you or objects through the level. The puzzles mainly work with switches that can be triggered by heavy objects, and flying energy balls that bounce off surfaces and switch on machines they hit. You play a person with no memories, that is guided by a mechanic voice through a sequence of testparcours.  The free addon prequel &#8220;Portal: Prelude&#8221; offers more challenging levels!</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">According to <a href="http://hellforge.gameriot.com/blogs/Hellforge/Diablo-III-Blizzard-Says-Goodbye-to-Skill-Trees-Lets-Speculate">recent speculations</a>, the well tried and well experienced skill tree is pretty much out of Blizzard Activision&#8217;s famous (or infamous) dungeon crawler. This comes from a twitter message posted by the game&#8217;s lead designer Jay Wilson himself, who states that<em> the skill system revision is in full force. Trees begone! I think it might be a winner.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>An action role playing game without a skill tree? That&#8217;s almost like eggs without bacon!</strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">The wonderful thing about a traditional skill tree, is that it&#8217;s so simple to understand and get into. The intuitive way of presenting the possible character progression is eye candy to most players who don&#8217;t want to dig themselves into some complex manual.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Diablo pretty much set the standard for most role playing games with it&#8217;s skill tree system. It was further developed in World of Warcraft, which all must agree on has been quite a success, and adapted by most action RPG developers and many traditional RPG developers. Even the hardcore role playing game developer Bioware used this very traditional system in their latest RPG Dragon Age: Origins.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">However, Dragon Age: Origins does draw a lot of inspiration from games like Diablo and World of Warcraft, although most harcore Bioware RPG fans probably will refuse to acknowledge this fact. There is a lot of World of Warcraft in Dragon Age: Origins gameplay.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;"><strong>Anyway, where is Blizzard going with this? Are they trying out a more way of dealing with skills, like the system in The Elder Scrolls games? Or have they invented some new incredible skill sytem that is even more intuitive and easy to understand? Final Fantasy XII had its chessboard stystem. Is that a possible source of inspiration?</strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">At any rate, it ought to be something interesting, since the developers obviously had allready worked out a traditional skill tree system in Diablo 3. Maybe they actually found some kind of meat that actually goes better with eggs than bacon does!</p>

<p>The next revealed character is&#8230;Tali! I&#8217;m happy she will take part in the game since she&#8217;s one of the characters I used most of the time throughout all my playthroughs/characters. It&#8217;s nice to see we will be visiting her home planet and learning even more of her background. However, this just makes it even harder to choose what two people I&#8217;ll be using in my playthrough. &#62;_&#60;</p>

<p>The adept class has finally be revealed, at least gameplay wise, to see some of the changes and new stuff BioWare has added. The class looks a lot more interesting to say the least, compared to Mass Effect 1. I didn&#8217;t really enjoy playing as the class when I tried it out, but eh, it just doesn&#8217;t appeal to me to not be able to shoot at all. I&#8217;ll try this class out again, maybe.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Hi All, just wanted to let you know that the lack of updates in the past few days has mainly been because what I have been doing, hasnt really warranted a blogpost or a completely new game-update.</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>I&#8217;ve basically been working with my code and watching alot of tutorials on making proper code, better reusable programmy&#8230;stuff&#8230;  And the result has been that I have managed to re-write a lot of my code, making a better menu system (not perfect, but somewhat better than the old one)&#8230;</p>
<p>Minor tweaks such as being able to go back to the main menu when dead, rather than bouncing straight back to map 1. The purpose of this, is of course to allow you to access the main menu and change options, if need be.</p>
<p>This will be expanded even further as later on I will make it so that you can access the menu from ingame with the ESC key, allowing you to tweak options or quit/restart your game.</p>

<p>Did a bit of extra writing for the TODO-List&#8230;</p>

<p>and the last thing, that I would say is what qualifies the next update as being: a big update&#8230; Is that I am working on the 4th level now.</p>
<p>This level be more in the spirit of how my vision of the game is. It will be a horizontal level, a bit longer than the other levels, and it wont have the same feeling of &#8216;Oh Snap!&#8217; everytime you miss a ledge, since you wont be falling down past 5 ledges and starting at the bottom&#8230;</p>
<p>&#160;</p>
<p>And speaking of starting at the bottom&#8230; In the near future, a Waypoint/Flag system will be implemented (Once I have figured out a proper code for it) So what this means is that everytime you reach reach a Waypoint, your Respawn Position will be stored there and instead of starting back at the beginning of the map, you will now start at the waypoint where you had reached.</p>

Vi har forsøgt at lave en kobling mellem læring og spil/leg, og er kommet op med en idé til et spil, der kunne foregå ude i rummet som et slags matematik/naturfags-spil; dermed har vi valgt fokusere på faget matematik (med en kant af naturfag). Børnene skal gennem en rejse i rummet opdage (<em>&#8220;Udforskning&#8221;</em>) nye &#8220;matematik-planeter&#8221;, som åbner øjnene op for en verden af sjov med matematik.</p>
<p>Pt. er idéen med spillet, at skoleeleverne (enten på egen hånd eller i samarbejde med hinanden &#8211; <em>&#8220;Samarbejde og fællesskab&#8221;</em>) gennem en række sjove matematiske og naturfagsmæssige udfordringer (<em>&#8220;Udfordring og præstation&#8221;</em>), opnår achievements, de kan bruge i det rumskib, de rejser rundt i rummet med. Spillet skal være med til at motivere børnene til at synes matematik er sjovt, og gerne opnå den effekt, at børnene får lyst til at tage &#8220;skolearbejdet&#8221; med hjem og spille derhjemme, og dermed dygtiggøre sig. Herved kan børnene også få en følelse af &#8220;ejerskab&#8221; omkring spillet ved at bruge det i deres fritid og sætte deres eget personlige præg på spillet. (<em>&#8220;At skabe noget&#8221;</em>)</p>

Maybe I&#8217;ll love the entire cast or most of them, because so far, I&#8217;m liking each and every character. 12/17/09 is the release for the Japanese Version and damn, it&#8217;s going to be a pain to avoid spoilers until March. It&#8217;s also going to be a pain to actually have so many games to play next year that I might be missing out on many things all because of this. Oh well. It will definitely be worth it. Hell, I&#8217;m listening to the OST, over and over and over and over again and I&#8217;m in love with it.<br />

Yes I know, I&#8217;m hyping this game more than any other game I&#8217;ve ever hyped since&#8230;DMC4. &#62;_&#62; But shit, give me a break! Now I want to finish FF8 before FF13 releases here. Let&#8217;s just see if I can pull THAT off.</p>
