Cheating a wee bit with today’s post. With NaBloPoMo the challenge is to post every single day for a month. I posted over at Amelia’s Adventures.

If you are a Sims3 fan, I updated I Play Sims  this week as well. Gen 2.4 of the Redfern Legacy!

Trying to keep up the IComLeavWe as well – but not going as great as I would like. I’m averaging writing around 3 comments a day. I’ll probably skip December as it’s around Christmas. Maybe I’ll try again in January 2010!

Gamer berinisial Sal9000 itu jatuh cinta kepada karakter bernama Nene Anegasaki dalam game Love Plus, sebuah game simulasi kencan. Game ini menyediakan pilihan untuk berkencan dengan salah satu dari tiga tokoh kartun perempuan.

Namun, hubungan secara virtual lewat game saja ternyata tidak cukup buat Sal9000. Ia pun menjadi orang pertama yang mendeklarasikan “pernikahan” dengan tokoh game tersebut dalam sebuah festival teknologi di Tokyo disaksikan puluhan penggemar game yang hadir.

Ia mengakui pernikahan tersebut tidak mungkin disahkan secara hukum. Namun, ia tak main-main karena menghadirkan pendeta beneran untuk melakukan upacara pernikahan tersebut. Bahkan, beberapa orang mengatakan kalau Sal9000 sudah melakukan pernikahan tersebut lebih dulu pada sebuah kapel di Pulau Guam di Samudera Pasifik.

Game seperti Love Plus memang sedang menjadi kegemaran baru di Jepang. Para pemainnya bisa menghabiskan waktu berjam-jam dengan kencan digitalnya dari membelikannya bunga, ngobrol, dan membuat komitmen masa depan bersama. The results about women’s console gaming habits are in. Yes, I know; you’ve been just as eager as I have to finally get your hads on those results.

According to a market analysis, female players’ console of choice is definitly the Nintendo Wii. With a breathtaking share of 80 percent, the Wii is the definite digital womanizer, compared to its console rivals.

This Anerican inquiry does not, however, include the number of female players who prefer the PC or the DS as their main source of interactive digital entertainment. The actual number of women charmed by the power of the Wii would be approximitly nine million ladies.

So there you have it. Yet another thing girls simply can’t do right.

A Japanese gamer has taken the highly unusual step of ‘marrying’ his videogame sweetheart, in what must have been a very bizarre ceremony recently. The gamer, known only as Sal9000, is a big fan of the Nintendo DS romance ‘em up, ‘Love Plus’, in which players attempt to woo their digital paramours with flowers, lavish dates and such. The behaviour of these in-game girlfriends then changes dependent on how they’re treated. Ah, so true! Ahem, anyway, Sal9000’s pretend romance came to a frankly worrying conclusion when he eventually plighted his troth to his silicon ladyfriend – a modest lass named ‘Nene Anegasaki’ – during a ceremony overseen by an actual priest and witnessed by dozens of onlookers at a recent technology festival in Tokyo. Heck knows how Sal9000 is now planning to consummate the marriage – perhaps that’s the substance of an especially twisted Love Plus minigame. However the priest involved has since stated that the ceremony was neither official nor legally-binding. In any case the marriage, such as it is, is likely to end in disappointment, as it turns out that Sal9000 is something of a ladykiller when it comes to digital girlfriends. By all accounts he has a string of similar romances already behind him.

WHAT THE FUCK!

Things go too far sometimes. its just getting stupid, people marrying their pets, that weird. BUT at least the that thing is living- could be argued that it has a personality. A dog is something tangible. Once this guy turns the screen off the character is dead!

That should never be something that someone can say.What happened to a loving, mutual, respectable, pretty, white, Bride and groom wedding?Can’t things  just be normal, this is the type of story you wonder why we bothered going into WWII for.

- I can honestly say- i don’t know one war veteran (you could argue that i don’t know many) that has ever said that.It just disappoints me that there are some people in this world who don’t deserve to be.

Maybe it’s just natural selection kicking in and so its stopping him ever having kids (someone has told him he cant have children haven’t they?)

The words “ONLY” and “IN” and “JAPAN” spring to mind when i read this.

…eller achievement hunter for at være mere politisk korrekt!

En achievement i denne sammenhæng er en belønning i form af point (gamerpoints), som en gamer får ved at udføre forskellige opgaver i et computerspil. De findes i udpræget grad på en Xbox 360 eller en Playstation 3 (her hedder de trophies). De achievements gameren samler sammen, bliver linket til hans/hendes gamercard (kaldet PSN ID på en Playstation 3), som kan bruges til vise verden på forskellige online fora (herunder Twitter og Facebook), hvilke spil man har spillet, og hvor mange gamerpoints man har optjent. Nedenfor ses et eksempel på et gamercard med 615 gamerpoints.

Achievements er samtidig et værktøj, som en spiludvikler kan bruge til at præge en gamer i en ønsket retning. Det kunne fx være ved at bruge achievements til at anspore til samarbejde istedet for saboterende adfærd ved holdspil. Ydermere har undersøgelser vist, at achievements er med til at generere mersalg.

Det interessante er, at de såkaldte “achievement whores” er, at de næsten er villige til at gøre hvad som helst, for at få flest mulige gamerpoints:

1) De vil bruge uanede mængder af tid på at booste deres gamercard.

2) De vil købe og/eller leje spil, som de finder komplet uinteressante for at booste deres gamercard.

3) De vil snyde sig til gamerpoints ved at indlæse gemte spil på hukommelseskort, som ikke tilhører dem selv.

4) De vil betale sig fra at få flere gamerpoints ved at udlevere personlige oplysninger om deres gamerkonto, så “professionelle” gamere kan booste deres gamercard mod betaling og samtidig risikere misbrug.

Det mest interessante er efter min personlige mening, at “achievement whores” slet ikke får noget for deres anstrengelser (andet end anerkendelse), selvom det selvfølgelig ikke er op til mig at vurdere værdien af achievements. Jeg finder det bare tankevækkende, at nogle gamere er villige til at gennemgå et eller flere af ovenstående punkter.

Der findes ikke meget direkte litteratur om fænomenet, men jeg mener bestemt det er værd at dykke ned i. T.L. Taylor har skrevet om “Powergamers”, som tilnærmelsesvis kan bruges som en analogi til “achievement whores”. Derudover bringer psykologen Mihály Csíkszentmihályi interessante perspektiver på banen med hans teori om flow. Kort sagt går det ud på, at vi drages, så snart der i computerspillet findes udfordringer, som  matcher vores evner. Vi vil opleve fortvivlelse hvis det er for svært, og kedsomhed hvis vi finder det for nemt. Teorien om flow forklarer dog ikke, at selv trivielle handlinger i et computerspil, som ikke er behæftet med nogen særlig sværhedsgrad, stadig kan virke dragende.
