My ambivalence towards the game continues however.

I like the connection with EVE Online, the idea of continuing the struggle on the surface of planets, the possibilities of the combined in-game markets, and, most of all, the idea of bombing DUST players from orbit while in my spaceship just for the sheer hell of it.

So far, my Dust corp has taken fifteen districts spread over two planets, with three of them being under immediate attack.

The Scrambler Rifle is proving very strong. I picked up an aurum variant and even with zero skills I was getting 4:1 KDR with it. It is semiautomatic like the tactical assault rifle, but overheats after a half-dozen shots with a great animation.

There were a few interesting developments from the report. Warpoints earned this week by the top 100 corporations was the lowest since I started keeping track. Last week it was 148mil WP, this week it was only 83mil.

Playstation Home Space Exclusive

Cool Free Stuff! You can get this exclusive CreoDron LAV thru Playstation Home Space (PSH) by logging in playing a game of Slay and watching all 4 faction videos and you should be able to claim 10 Blueprint Copies of the LAV. I hear it don't really take all that long to do that. Seems also to be for a limited time.

Week 1 of the Event is almost over!

So the Beta Event has now been updated by CCP Games to cover the entire month of April and with some nifty gear rewards as the weeks stretches along as well.

I'm just running at least 5 matches a day minimum for the event to pickup some that nifty gears. As well I'm doing it while still testing out various types of Dropsuits fitting to still figure out my playstyle.

Think a lot of DUST players were confused by how the Days Count for the Human Endurance Event. Hell even I was confused as well. I was thinking CCP counted a day as one downtime session starting on that day to the next to keep it simple. But that wasn't the case and I still wasn't sure. Other players seemed confused, most seemed to have a different answer.

DOTA 2: Not for Noobs

Some members of the Hybrid Gaming Community started playing DOTA 2 a few days ago so I figured I would jump on the bandwagon and see what the game is all about. So far we’ve been playing some practice rounds against bots so we can familiarize ourselves with the heroes, figure out some good character builds, strategies, and etc. In these practice games, I came to realize that this game is VERY complicated.

I’ve played a few games with Bane, Chaos Knight, Doom, and Drow Ranger.

I have 3 roles I typically like to play in games: Support, Tank/Heavy, or Guerrilla/Hit & Run.

Bane was fun for a short while. His abilities were ok, there was just something about the way I was using him that didn’t click.

Doom was a complete failure. I have no idea what I was doing with him. I would tell him to go somewhere, he would go, then he would die. That’s about it.

Chaos Knight was awesome once I got his ability combo down, but he was not hitting as quick as I wanted him to, nor could he take as much damage as I thought he should have been able to.

Then there is the Drow. I played a very good Drow. At least, when comparing it to all the others. I also realize that the Drow is very easy character to play. Auto-cast Ice Arrows, activate Silence, the rest are passive stat boosts, get the right items equipped and anyone can be nearly unbeatable. What is there not to love? She also played right into my “Hit & Run” play style very well early on, and later in the game she was an all out attacking beast of death and destruction.

The problem lies in that I don’t want to be stuck playing the same character all the time, also, I don’t want to be good with a hero simply because it is an “easy hero” to be good with. That being said, the hero experimentation shall continue! With a game that has such a huge hero pool to choose from, I have relatively daunting task at hand, so any feedback is much appreciated!

Icelandic game publisher CCP Games announced today that its first-person shooter online game Dust 514 will formally launch on the PlayStation 3 on May 14.

Reykjavik, Iceland-based CCP Games has created the shooter as a downloadable massively multiplayer online game, where players can engage in ground combat in the same sci-fi universe as CCP's Eve Online title. In fact, players in Dust 514 can affect the gameplay of Eve Online and vice versa.

On January 22, 2013 the first free to play shooter on PS3, Dust 514, entered "Open Beta". Now the folks at CCP are taking Dust 514 out of "Open Beta" phase and releasing the full version of the game on May 14th. CCP are also planning to release a Dust 514 companion app, which is set to appear on PSVita over the summer.

So what's the news? CCP (the makers of internet spreadsheet spaceship simulator) seem to be getting quite heavily in DUST 514. This is a free to play FPS for Playstation 3 set in the EVE universe. Currently they are attempting to integrate the two games.

A letter to Nintendo: Take the stage at E3

So it’s come to this, has it, Nintendo? You’re now content to skulk in the corners of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) with your innovative devices and sequels to 20-year-old Super Nintendo games? This once mighty company won’t even attempt to assert itself on a stage against the new titans of the age, Sony and Microsoft?

I’m not so out of touch as to think E3 in 2013 is as important as it was to the video game industry back when it started in 1995. So in one respect, I can understand why it seems like a good idea to skip the expense and hassle of a major press conference. I’d applaud the decision if I didn’t think it was yet another symptom of the isolationist culture that’s embedded itself somewhere deep within your business, Nintendo — leading you to behave like an old hermit stubbornly whittling away at the same wooden toys that used to bring the kids out to visit a long time ago.

The Nintendo Directs are welcome and informative, but you might be overestimating how widely they are spreading your message. Sure, dropping a prerecorded video message from some far-flung corner of the earth has gotten people plenty of attention before, but I doubt you want to apply that communications model to your free-market enterprise. There’s something to be said for putting on a show at a venue where media, distributors, and industry officials will be converging for several days. You don’t want to leave it up to everyone to watch a 24-minute YouTube video presentation set against a stark white background.

With the Wii U, you’ve met the bare minimum requirements to say you launched a new console: You shipped boxes of them to stores, released a glossed-up version of New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and put out a variation on the theme of “Look at Us, We’re Innovative” with Nintendo Land. There was no effective marketing done to actually sell the Wii U to the people who bought the original Wii. Your promises of third-party game support have thus far fallen short, your own lineup of software keeps suffering delays, and the latest series of advertisements for the console show families struggling to put two cogent thoughts together about why they even bought the damn console in the first place.

You’re not in the clear yet, and it seems like a bad time to rely on others to come to you, especially when Sony and Microsoft won’t be waiting patiently for people to pass by their E3 booths to show them their versions of the next big thing in gaming. It’s not that the IGNs, GameSpots, and Kotakus of the Internet won’t notice you at E3. They will, and the gaming-informed will be able to recite by heart your holiday release schedule by the end of the show.

The problem is with U.S.A. Today, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal — the big types of mainstream news sources whose video game coverage largely consists of statements from congressmen and senators panning the medium for its portrayals of violence. They are going to be hard-pressed to find time for your discreet show when they are writing about how Microsoft will be taking over the suburban living room with the new Xbox this fall, with Sony’s PlayStation 4 tagging close behind.

Maybe in a year — when you’ve established a strong lineup of games for the Wii U, when the anticipation around next-generation consoles has died down, and when it’s just another time for more games — I might suggest forgoing the stage. In 2013, my only advice to you, Nintendo, is to “break a leg.”

Rift Going Free-to-Play Next Month. Also New Video

Trion Worlds the developers of Rift have announced that Rift will be going to free-to-play in June and will allow players to experience the entire game and get access to all past and future game updates. Think of it as a very long demo as many things will still need to be bought with real money.

Bill Fisher the Creative Director said: “We have been listening to feedback from our players and watching the continuously developing MMO community, and are now ready to launch RIFT as a premium free-to-play experience, after taking our time and planning a careful transition; we are very excited to bring an enhanced game experience to everyone, without barriers.”

Rift Free-to-Play Developer Diary.

All players will have access to the world of Telara for free. To support the move to free-to-play a new in-game store will be made available where a various of services such as mounts, boosts and cosmetic items can be bought.

The old subscription model will still be available but now will grant new “Patron” features and bonuses. Trion Worlds will also reward its current and previous subscribers with different types of rewards depending how long they have played the game so far.

Rift’s free-to-play option will be made accessible to everyone with Update 2.3: Empyreal Assault which arrives on 12th June. It features a new zone, world event and much more. Read the official FAQ here for more information about the move to free-to-play.

I got my Dwarf to level 50 when the game first came out. I am unsure if I will ever come back to the game to play as a new character or to carry on my adventure through Telara.
