Stu’s QuizBoxes is another of my programs, a completely free educational activity that puts a quiz game show in your classroom. But did you know that your Student Response Network Clients can be used as buzzers for QuizBoxes?

By connecting your SRN Clients to the SRN Server (teacher’s) computer and having QuizBoxes also on the teacher’s computer, the two programs can interact to provide a brilliantly engaging educational activity for the whole class.

Above is a screen shot of the QuizBoxes game board, a set of thirty questions broken into six categories, with questions sorted into increasing difficulty. It’s a great game that you can build and present to your students. Your students can even build the quizzes themselves!

When a student selects a category and a point value, the teacher clicks it and the question behind that QuizBox appears:

At this point, in a school where Student Response Network is not available, some other form of buzzer is needed – a percussion instrument, a (physical) raise of hands, a call out of your (or your team’s) name etc.

But with Student Response Network, all that needs to be done at the start of the QuizBoxes game (after your SRN clients have connected) is to click on the “Enable Buzzer” checkbox and for any of the students to click on their purple “Raise Hand” button in the SRN Client.

The first student to “Raise their Hand” will cause a buzzer window to appear over the top of the QuizBoxes question and the teacher can then acknowledge that student to get them to answer.  In order to stop students from buzzing-in too early, the buzzer window intentionally COVERS the question, so if students are racing to buzz-in, they will not be able to answer because they will not have seen the question. In QuizBoxes, a failure to answer, or an incorrect answer means the point value of the selected question gets DEDUCTED from the team or person that buzzed-in.

If you’ve got Student Response Network, you really should be playing QuizBoxes with your class. If you’ve got QuizBoxes, it’s so much better with Student Response Network!

Harry Wijnvoord sagte, das man ihn während der Gartenarbeit angerufen hatte und fragte, ob er an einer Neuauflage der Sendung mit ihm als Moderator Interesse hätte. Er erwiederte nur: “Wann soll ich da sein?”

Ob “Der Preis ist heiß” wieder bei RTL zu sehen sein wird, oder ob man einen neuen Fernsehpartner findet steht zur Zeit noch nicht fest.
Sicher ist bislang aber schon, das 2010 die neuen Sendungen ausgestrahlt werden.

Der Preis ist heiß war von 1989 bis 1997 eine Kultshow von bis zu über 30% Marktanteil und lief im Vorabendprogramm bei RTL (Plus) ! Harry Wijnvoord moderierte diese Sendung damals zusammen mit Walter Freiwald.

Haven’t update in awhile, but this is worth it. Saw this on a friends wall on facebook and loved it. This kid is so brave and is going to grow up to a fine young man.

I am sharing a game show with you. It’s a clueless game. It consists of eleven steps. Some quotes/pictures will be displayed in each step; you have to identify the answer by looking the pictures and quotes displayed in each step.

Most interesting thing “Person (outside Nagpur) who will cross all the steps first will get an attractive prize from Baramde Ki Dhoop.”

It’s a panel show with celebrity contestants and what happens is a load of piglets are let loose in the centre of the stage with questions stapled to them. The object is for the contestants to grab a pig, rip off the question and declare “I am pig!” Then the other contestants have to chase them around and try and get the question off of them. After half an hour the gong is sounded and the person holding the question has to answer it.

They’ll probably be general knowledge or history questions I’ll nick a couple from Trivial Pursuit.

This past Tuesday, I made an appearance on episode 66 of the first question game show as a contestant. Other contestants were Chase Marellan, Chimera Cosmos, and Pim Peccable. Watch the show, cheer me on, and see who wins.

It’s always hard to recreate game shows in a different medium.  I have self-respect, so I’ve never played one before today.  I lowered my standards to please my loving audience! Ya bunch o’ ingrates!

The game is as you expect: Alex Trebbek dubbed voice overs for a couple of things–but not the actual question reading–and your standard array of generic characters.

You even get to play as Bubbles!

The questions seem to be picked from the show.  That is, they aren’t dumbed down for an American audience.  I find this somewhat strange.  Japanese RPGs were dumbed down for American audiences because they were “too hard”, yet Gametek figures people will sit through all the simulated effects of the tv-show just so that they can show that they don’t know some obscure fact from 20 years ago? Seems like an odd market split to me.

Who fathered a child where? And why? Ugh.

While playing, I found myself a lot more curious about the randomizer, the question selection, and the comparison algorithms.   You have to answer textually.  Does that mean spelling counts?  It certainly doesn’t in the real Jeopardy.  Or is there an intelligent comparison algorithm that is more forgiving?  Playing with the computers is also somewhat frustrating because they are painfully slow.  You spend most of the game waiting.

Verdict: If I were really stuck on reliving the nostalgia of the tv game show, I’d much rather watch the SNL skits, or play a variant that adapts well to the computer medium, like You Don’t Know Jack, which is essentially the same thing, without the interminable waiting simulator.

True to the game show, yet keeps the action going, the price is right for this one (I couldn’t resist).  Playing while at work today, I got flashbacks of being home from school sick.

Start with Contestants Row and make it to the Showcase Showdown, while playing all your favorite Price is Right games like Plinko and Cliffhangers in between.  Loading between rounds is a little slow, but whenever a product is demoed, actual video footage from late in the Bob Barker era is shown (seems to be from around 2006).  All the products and pricing seem pretty current, so it’s not like you have to take out your calculator and adjust for inflation from back in the 80’s.  Unfortunately there is no footage Bob himself in the game, but that also means you don’t have to see any of his creepy kisses with any of the co-ed contestants.

The game’s tough enough so you don’t win Contestant’s Row all the time, but even if you don’t it lets you play a game to keep things from getting repetitive.  Also, if you unlock all the modes, you get to play any of the games whenever you want.  After a solid three days of playing, I didn’t yet encounter any products being repeated, which does lend to the replay factor.

Gag woman, Park Jisun, revealed that she bought Lee Hongki a meal using the prize money that she won in the KBS gameshow “1 vs 100″.

According to Park Jisun, Lee Hongki has always been a close friend and he even took the initiative to call and ask her for a treat upon knowing that she won the prize money. “I ran out in socks to meet him the moment he called and we had an enjoyable date,” she boasted.

She continued, “We received cold stares of jealousy from fans and many people were taking pictures of us. I was actually anticipating for news on our scandal but was disappointed because there weren’t any.”

Park Jisun also mentioned that she often encounter misunderstandings with idol members who are close to her. “I treat them as men but they treat me only as an older sister.”

This show will broadcast on 30th July.

EDMONDS PRETENDING TO GIVE A SHIT ABOUT CONTESTANT

When a crone has nowt to do all day but sit around and gaze gormlessley at a television, a crone becomes partial to that bastion of blandness- late afternoon TV. Not to be confused with its thrashy, slutty sister Morning TV (We’re looking at you, Jeremy Kyle!), late afternoon TV is completely inoffensive, the kind of thing they will show in mental homes for the bewildered so as not to send residents into a psychotic state.

..And who (of course) is the king of this afternoon snoozefest? But the king of blandness himseslf- Noel Edmonds. Ressurected from terrible early ’90’s cringefest Noel’s House Party, Edmonds has injected life into his fledgeling career through the inexplicably popular Deal or No Deal. What the hell is it about this show? Why are all the contestants about to burst open with happieness? Bobbing about as though their internal organs are about to expel themselves from sheer exitement? It’s agonising. Why can’t they put a real bollocks on the show who just wants the money? Its always some tosser with a  sob story. Its a gameshow where you win money, and real inner greed comes tothe surface- Our guess is that these fucks have no intention of dontating their money. Johnny is off to Benidorm on that cash while the elderly in the local rest home survive on imitation gruel and share one oxygen tank between them. You CUNT, Johnny!

And of course…at the centre of this debacle is Edmonds. He goads on these contestants, continually reminding us of what an AMAZING person they are, utterly selfless and benevolent, just wanting to “help me mum out wiv her finances”…Oh, FUCK OFF! Edmonds, you’re shit. You are not funny, your shirts are stupid and your pretend banter is excruciating. Stop telling the contestants they are “playing a blinder” and “playing a spectacular game”…they’re opening boxes, and utilizing absolutely zero skill whatsoever, except the skill of coming over all noble and squeezing out a few tears every so often.

This show is lowest common denominator. It requires absolutely no attention span to watch, and before you know it, an hour is wasted. We can see how this kind of thing is very attractive to saddos and shut ins who want to wheedle away their lives til they finally croak. Oh, and if Edmonds isn’t enough for you, Channel four have also dug up Wogan. Wogan is now so doddery and old he can’t even read the terrible jokes off the autocue. Riveting stuff.

I’ve told folks before that I was on a game show, Greed, which came on Fox back in 2000. I was on the “College Rivalry” series of episodes. Altough I didn’t win anything, I had a great time. It was fun going through the process to get cast on the show. As a college freshman, it was cool to get flown out to Cali, get paid a per diem, be on national television, and meet other college students from around the country. I’m still salty about the loss and even more salty about the reruns on the Game Show Network (I looked so jacked!). Anyway, people always ask about the questions we were asked. Well, here’s how it went down:
