Okay guys, It is about time that I get practicing reviewing anime series’ so I will be uploading a review of Gantz fairly soon; either tonight or tomorrow probably. If you have any tips for me let me know please!

It has also come to my attention that the site Nico Nico Douga is in various languages, Japanese,  Taiwanese, German and Spanish; but there are a fair few of us who haven’t exactly mastered Japanese yet, or for that matter, any of these languages. You MUST register to view videos AND it is pretty tough to search or navigate the site without any knowledge of the aforementioned sites.

Apart from the above the site is pretty epic. There is so much to be seen on there for example some pretty awesome AMV’s, Music videos, Game Footage; Anything else you can think of really. The most probably reason that the site is not in English is that it loses lots of money every month due to large bandwidth usage; If there was to be an English version of the site the bandwidth would go through the roof and the site would most probably go bust.

So, There I was, sat trying to figure the site out and I just couldn’t get the hang of it, so I went to the almighty Google and searched for a tutorial of some sort to help get used to the site. I found but since then the site has been completely re-designed 「It is now NicoNicoDouga(9)」. I couldn’t find ANY tutorial for the current version of the site so I have taken it upon myself to create a tutorial of sorts; How successful it will be I haven’t got a clue but here goes. I will be posting the registration part of the tutorial probably tonight.

Like I mentioned yesterday on Twitter, coffeebugg showed up at my desk sometime during the day with a resealable plastic bag. Inside was a figma that he said he was selling to me. His cousin apparently wanted to get rid of some figmas which included a WonFes Konata (the Konata wearing the Haruhi cosplay) and a just-out-of-the-box Summer Uniform Konata. Included in the bundle was a near-mint condition figma Reika, complete with all the hands, faces, accessories, figma base and the Gantz  #26 manga.

“Want to have it for Php700?”

“Yes.”

Who am I to let this one slide. It’s an exclusive release and it’s being sold for way less than even half the price of the original package. All that was lacking was the box which I could do without.

Read the manga. It’s an awesome series.

This week’s been so-so. My Monday didn’t start so well and I have gnawing feeling that the week’s yet to go downhill at this point. I’m not liking that feeling at all. I know it’s barely halfway though the week but I’m really looking forward to Friday already. I want this week to be over with but there’s still so much to do at the office.

There ARE a couple of items that I am expecting to arrive within the next couple of weeks. First is figma Drossel which we’ve been hunting for for the longest time now and coffeebugg has finally managed to find time to pick it up from customs. Hopefully, he brings mine to the office tomorrow but it’s highly likely that I’ll get it near the end of the week. Another would be the 1/8 Kyouka Midarezaki that we got for a sweet deal. We’ve yet to receive a notice that it has arrived in customs for pickup. But I think I’ll have it at my desk by next week.

For now, I’ll be happy with my new figma Reika. Definitely a worthwhile acquisition. :3

Kei’s fight with the aliens begins now!

Summary:

The alien which came out of his battle suit in the last chapter goes wild and attacks some students and teachers staying around. Thanks to Kei they’re rescued as he shoots him down with his gun.

For a second they think that they’re saved but suddenly an other alien without battle suit appears and brings a student’s head to explode as the can fire electricity out of his fingers.

So Kei grabs Tae and jumps from the roof to escape but the alien still tries to smash them with his foot. he fails and tries to kill they with his electricity-fingers. He fails again as Kei runs towards him and punches the alien’s leg away.

My 2 cents:

Awwww… no color-pages this time. But nevertheless this time the final phase starts for real! Basically we see only Kei fighting with the alien but I mean it’s good to see some action again.

I give this chapter a 7/10.

El anime es el estilo de animacion japoneza la cual admiro mucho por su estilo de dibujo pero ultimamente las tramas son muy expandidas (Naruto,Inuyacha,Bleach) Realmente el estilo de dibujo es explendido pero las tramas dejan mucho de que hablar….

Ultimamente el genero shonen como naruto o bleach estan perdiendo fama y a mi incluso me gustaba pero la historia empezo a perder ciencia las cosas eran cada vez menos sorpresivas esperar una semana para ver solo 20 minutos, en fin era todo un fastidio y sin contar los interminables capitulos.

A todos los fanboys (Personas que son obsesionada con algo) que dejen de molestar por que les gusta una serie eso es realmente lo que me dio la razon para dejar ese tipo de anime.(Dibujo fantastico pero con trama……)

Okay then….here are the “G”s.

Gantz – Kei Kurono

Compared to the manga, that anime for Gantz sucked balls. But by itself, it was pretty good if not for the shitty gay ending that sucked and was shitty. And Kei kicked some grade A ass in both the manga and the anime. Let’s see, by the time the anime ended, Kei had pretty much taken charge on every mission, and killed all of the aliens by himself. Yup, he’s the man. (The manga is 50000000000000000000 times better though…I’m not even supposed to be talking about manga in these posts, that’s how good it is).

Ghost in the Shell – Major Mokoto Kusanagi

Oh yea, I used a topless shot of the Major to add a little promiscuity to this post.

Everyone has seen Ghost in the Shell. At least the movie (which was obviously good). Now, like Melissa Mao from FMP, she sports this gay haircut that actually is cool. It works for Melissa Mao. For the Major? Well, personally, I think her hair is too bushy, but honestly, it’s become the look she’s become famous for. Now comes to the actual substance of this character review:

The major does not actually have a body. Yup, that’s not her body. at the end of the first film, she was in a little girl’s body, which just goes to show…..uh……she……she’s cool?

Okay look, she’s sick at fighting has a great English voice actress, and she’s generally awesome. Trying to write why is as confusing to me as watching this show subbed is.

Great Teacher Onizuka – Urumi Kanzaki

WHHHAAATTTTT!? You chose her over ONIZUKA!? DAMN RIGHT I DID! Onizuka was the fucking man, but God damn it, Kanzaki was the fucking woman.

Firstly, she’s a heterochromian. If I ever meet an actual female heterochromian (who is a noticeable heterochromian, not like, one eye is brown and the other is hazel…those are like the same color in terms of eyes) who is of age, then I will date her, even if she’s fat and ugly. The relationship might only last an hour or so, but I will be dating her non the less.

Secondly, she’s a fucking genius. So smart, in fact, that the school pretty much lets her do whatever she wants. Oh, you don’t have to come to class, don’t worry about it.

Thirdly, building on the fact that she’s a genius (literally), she is also not someone you ever want to cross or fuck with, based on her cold personality. SHE’S SO FUCKING AWESOMRGONOSEFSIN!!!

Gunslinger Girl – Triela

It’s been a while since I watched any Gunslinger Girl action. The anime is good, but I still only saw the first 5 episodes of Il Teatrino (the second season). I gotta hit that other shit up you know (you won’t really get that link unless you’re Robert, or skip in to like, 5 minutes). But yea, Triela takes that cake with some ease for this one. She’s a little bit more mature than the other girls, and she’s also a little more fucking awesome than the other girls. She’s got that sarcastic awesomeness with the badassery dressery (she dresses fucking awesomely). Just look at her. She’s got the tie the vest the shoes and the rest…..even she doesn’t have a hint of a breast…………ICE. (garantee I lost almost everyone there). Triela isn’t just awesome, she’s the fuckin shitttttttt.

That is going to be a rather specific blog entry, but today I want to go into detail about three manga-series that would make great video games. Before going any further I´d like to explain that manga and anime come hand in hand with video games, that is what I believe. That is, if you´r fond of Japanese video games. Sure, typical western games don´t feature any resemblance of Japanese comics and cartoons. Maybe, though, that is also why I prefer Japanese video games, as they generally feature more stylized visuals, maybe thanks to the country´s heavy art industry. Not to stray further away, I´ll be talking about Gantz, Blame! and Berserk.

If you watched the Gantz-anime that unfortunately didn´t get a third season and afterwards decided to read the manga for more, you know: This series went from the weird to the epic. The series´ concept would be rather easy to make into a video game (tbh there even might already be a game, but it definitely wasn´t released in Europe). Simply throw the player into a new mission each time and have him face all kinds of new, bizarre aliens. There´s not that much about specific gameplay details, as it´d be a simple third-person-shooter, maybe with some climb-mechanics and Crysis-like super powers. It´s the multiplayer part that counts. I´d imagine there to be two kinds of multiplayer: First one would let other players join your game on-the-fly, taking on missions together. The other mode would be even more reminiscent of the series: You gather a group of friends that you start the game with. Then the game puts you into super-weird and hard missions. Whoever survives the longest wins, it´s that simple. There´s really no other franchise I could see work that well as a online-heavy video game. The mixture of cool art style, super powers, weird aliens, team-play and mission-based gameplay could make for hundreds of hours. Maybe think of the Monster Hunter-franchise, but with a lot more fun, involving combat-system, a mixture of Zelda, Crysis and Devil May Cry. Yeah, that´d be fun.

Just as fun as the next manga-franchise could be when turned into a video game. Whoever doesn´t already know Blame!, let me explain: The main character is called Killy and he´s traveling around within this thing called Mega Structure. It´s some scifi-series where the whole world is covered by, well, buildings, if you want to call that structures that. Killy´s mission is to find network genes from before the mutation. I forgot why he searched those but it doesn´t matter for the moment. This manga doesn´t feature a lot of words, and even that´s quite an understatement. The Blame!-manga´s strength is its incredible atmosphere. You´re there in such a strange, bizarre environment, not knowing what´ll happen next. There are those dangerous silicon creatures, the “bad guys” of the series. Weird, artificial looking…robots? that will kill you or any human being. Speaking of human beings, time has gone by that long that there are different kinds of human beings. So it happens that Killy, who´s just a normal human (well, not totally normal), meets other human-like beings that look just like him…but are double his size. Mentioned Mega Structure consists of almost uncountable layers, each of which is like its own whole world. So, what would a video game about this look like? See, there´s this gun Killy is using, the Graviton Beam Emitter. Let me just say that this is the coolest weapon I´ve ever seen in any manga, anime or video game. That gun doesn´t need ammunition, it draws its energy from its user. More importantly, though, it´s capable of destroying almost anything. It shoots a rather slim, unspectacular energy beam, but that beam breaks through anything that comes across its way. It can deflect enemy weapon´s beams and it can destroy walls and layers that nothing else in the world of Blame! could even scratch. It needs to be that powerful, though, because it´s the only effective weapon against these silicon creatures. So how I´d imagine a Blame!-video game is that you wander around in quiet, weird, bizarre environments for most of the time, a lot like ICO. Whenever an enemy appears, it´d be a boss battle. No meaningless minions that serve no purpose but to lengthen the game. Gameplay-wise it´d be about evading the enemy´s attack to concentrate your characters focus, and then, at a crucial point, fire the gun to one-hit whatever enemy. What gameplay would be like? That is easy: Like Devil May Cry, but not as flashy, more down-to-earth movements and a lot more dirty.

The last of the three, Berserk, would be my personal favorite game ever. This is a franchise that needs WiiMotionPlus. Just give me direct control over Gut´s gigantic sword, throw me into the depths of hell and let me slay the most bizarre, creepiest monsters there´ve ever been. One problem of MotionPlus is that it cannot simulate the weight of a sword, so whenever you swing the wiimote in WiiSports Resort it is breaking the immersion of swinging a real sword. A Berserk-game wouldn´t have that problem because Guts…is awesome. Thing is, he can swing is giant sword super fast and with the highest durability of any manga-character ever. That´s why it totally fits into the game´s context to be able to swing a sword that effortlessly. There have been Berserk-games in the past, but I´d really love to see one featuring MotionPlus, and also one that goes more after the experience of the moment instead of just retelling the known story. Throw me into the world of the Eclipse and let´s see how long I can survive. That´s the Berserk-game I´d love to play. Gameplay-wise? If there´ll be a Zelda Wii-game released I think that will be a great example of how a Berserk-game should play like (with a sword 3 or 4 times as long as Link´s, haha).

Now, what all three of these manga-series and my “turning-them-into-video games“-wishes share is that they offer the greatest, deepest atmosphere possible. Throw away crappy stories, throw away cut-scenes, throw away annoying gameplay-limiting stuff. Just…get me into this game, let me explore on my own and let me do it how I want to do it. And that´s really what it´s all about. All those games that are hyped right now, Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 or New Super Mario Bros. Wii are, in the end, nothing but brainless time killers. Do some tasks for 6-7 hours, then the game´s over and you haven´t seen anything you didn´t see before. Not even talking about “having experienced anything new”. Video gamers always try to paint their hobby as a form of art, expressing how it´s matured, but the whole medium is still very young, still very unexplored. Nearly all modern video games follow a pattern that games from ten, fifteen or twenty years ago created. As long as there´s not try to break free from that pattern there cannot be any kind of “maturing”, and the whole art-argument will stay a difficult topic. There are exceptions, like ICO, Endless Ocean or “The Path-game” (google that one, it´s great), but those are infinitely outnumbered by hyped blockbuster-games that keep doing the same and the same again. And from the look at even the most hardcore-internet boards, gamers don´t want that to change. Which I find saddening. Maybe it just needs more time to get games into this direction of a more direct experience. But at the moment we´re rather heading towards video games that I have a hard time calling them “games” at all. “Cinematic” is the big hyped thing of the time and it´s been only going stronger with the years. I remember when I bought the first Tomb Raider on DVD (yeah, shame on me) there was this interactive game where you could move Lara with the buttons of your DVD-player´s remote and she would go and say stuff and whatever. Maybe that´s the future all those self-proclaiming hardcore-gamers want. All I know is: I do not want such a gaming future. I wanna play and interact as directly with the ingame-world as possible. And damn, would those three manga-series be great as video games.

WOW… I just read the 307th chapter of GantZ.
I have never seen something like this before! I mean… who cares about the story… Look at these freakin’ awesome color-pages! These are by far the best ever!
Even if you aren’t a GantZ maniac you have to check this out to see how lame all other color-pages are:

Besides that… the plot was okay… We see some shooting stuff from Kei and we get to see how these alien dudes really look like.

This guy reminds me a bit of Cletus from “The Simpsons”.

To sum it up I can say it’s like the mangaka took the half of the last chapter and put it into this one. But nevertheless I’ll give this one an 8/10
