È vero che ormai c’è da aspettarsi di tutto dai ladri, ma finora un aereo non era ancora stato rubato. Probabilmente anche perchè è raro che qualcuno ne tenga uno in garage. E quando i malviventi hanno scoperto, chissà come, che L.C., 42 anni, dipendente di una ditta di segnaletica, teneva nel suo box in un palazzo di via Turati a Gorle, nel Bergamasco, un ultraleggero biposto a motore Aliferrari, non ci hanno pensato su due volte e si sono organizzati per portarlo via.

I ladri hanno agito di notte, riuscendo a non farsi sentire da nessuna delle famiglie del palazzo. E non deve essere stato semplice, visto che per arrivare a prendere il piccolo aereo hanno dovuto tagliare a metà la saracinesca del box e disattivare l’allarme. Poi hanno dovuto probabilmente smontare il velivolo, visto che era lungo 3 metri, largo 2,80 e pesa 148 chili, con ali da 9 metri e mezzo, e tutto intero (comprese le ali, che anche ripiegate arrivano a 6 metri) può essere portato via solo in camion.

Tutto il bottino vale circa 15.000 euro, ma altri 10.000 li hanno “guadagnati” rubando attrezzatura tecnica subacquea, zaini d’alta quota, equipaggiamento da rocciatore e una tenda tunnel da sette posti.

Lenny Kaye et Jack Holzman, assemblent en 1972 cette collection de morceau garage et pop 60s à une époque où les trolls, et les voix perchées en pantallons moule-burnes sont en haut des charts. Une idée suicidaire? Peut-être, mais as-t-on vu dans l’histoire de la pop music une compilation causée un tel impact?

La Nuggets, sera au même titre que le Velvet, Slade (pour les english), ou les Stooges, l’un des ingrédients de l’explosion punk de la fin des 70s… Et tout cela avec quelques singles pop! Sire a réédité la compilation en 1976, un signe des temps non? Eux qui signeront tout un paquet de ces formations issues du Roxy ou du CBGB!

La Nuggets,  aide à définir le garage rock, cet équivalent plus brutal et moins poli de beat music anglaise, le terme est à telle point entré dans les mœurs, qu’il est utilisé à toutes les sauces, et reste l’expression la plus connue pour parler de “rock 60s qui bouge” bien plus que “beat” ou la lubie des collectionneurs “freakbeat”.

La Nuggets c’est aussi le déclencheur des “compilations”, et de séries comme Pebbles (une séquelle directe de la Nuggets comme le nom le suggère!) Back from the Grave ou Rubbles, bref l’exemple à suivre, le maitre à dépasser! Celui qui créé la rupture epistémologique avec le avant.

Bref la Nuggets est un véritable acte fondateur, mais parfois ne lui attribue-t-on pas des choses à tord et à travers? Loin de moi l’idée de vouloir démonter l’un des paradygmes de la culture rock 60s… Juste rétablir la vérité.

La Nuggets n’avait pas vocation initiallement à définir un genre musical, se sont plus les observateurs, qui y ont vu une certaine cohésion et se sont empressés de définir “le garage”. Le tracklisting laisse suggérer que Jack et Lenny se sont surtout amusé à compiler des morceaux qu’ils trouvaient cool ensembles, saississant au passage probablement l’atmosphère folle propre aux 60s. Mais où est le garage dans “my world fell down” des Sagittarius, monument de pop baroque?

L’autre point à démystifier, c’est l’ “”underground”", ce concept néé à la fin des années 60 avec les hippies barbues et les folkeux intellos,  qui par définition n’a pas lieu d’être sur un disque sorti en 1965! Tous ses groupes souhaitaient la même chose: décrocher la timballe, et à défaut faire plein de concerts et s’amuser (avec des filles conciliantes), ici pas question d’art respecté, mais bel et bien au fond d’entertainement! C’est probablement pour ça que Lenny Kaye et Jack Holzman ont mêlé sans les distinguer des vrais tubes (psychotic reactions, i had too much too dream last night, liar liar), avec des demis tubes (open my eyes, pushing too hard, you’re gonna miss me), et des pas du tout (let’s talk about girl, don’t look back). Résultats des courses, les deux hommes ont réussi leur mission: 37 ans après impossible de distinguer les tubes du reste, c’est la qualité qui parle et pas le jugement des charts! Mais cela s’est fait quand même avec une incompréhension, celle du groupe “sorti du ruisseau”, ce qui n’était manifestement pas le cas de groupe comme Count Five ou les Castaways ayant eu leurs 5 minutes de gloire!

Bref après ces remarques on va croire que je trouve cette compilation surrévaluée, bien loin de moi cette idée! La Nuggets est un monument, qui contribue à réhabiliter tout un tas de choses, sorti à un moment hallucinant, mais attention à ne pas trop vouloir interprété ce qui au départ est une simple collection de morceaux pop mortels mis dans une pochette super cool!

Concerto do dúo canadense de garage-punk King Khan and BBQ Show gravado o 31 de outubro de 2008 no Bottom Lounge de New York.

Hey fit people.  Jaron and I are making a promo piece for the Feats-Of-Strength garage.  We will be renting a sweet camera, setting up some lights, and doing in-depth sound design.  It’s gonna be pretty damn tight.

What we need most though, are your beautiful faces.  We are going to begin shooting Friday morning at 8am.  I know it’s early and right after Thanksgiving but it’s for a good cause and it will secure your place in the halls of F.O.S. history.

Please rsvp as soon as possible so I can continue to set up the logistics of the day.  We should be able to crank it out by 11 or 12…if you can only stay for a while that’s fine, just let me know your availability.  All you’ll be doing is looking swoll/working out in short bursts.

Darf doch nicht wahr sein, jetzt hat sie ihren Schal liegen lassen. Sie muss noch einmal zurück. Sie fragt sich zwar, wozu eine Brezl um diese Jahreszeit einen Schal nötig hätte, und woher sie überhaupt das gute Stück haben soll. Aber jetzt hat sie ihn halt vergessen. Sie betritt noch einmal vorsichtig die Garage und sieht sich um. Aja, sie hat ihn gebügelt gerade vorher. Das ist gar nicht ihr Schal. Sie kommt zu der Einsicht, dass sie nie einen Schal besaß und Brezln auch nie einen besitzen werden, geschweige denn sollten.

Aus einem Nebenraum hört sie Boris telefonieren. Sie wird neugierig und muss feststellen, dass er russisch spricht. Gemeinheit. Nein, doch nicht. Er nuschelt nur so. Aber unsere Brezl erkennt bald, dass über sie gesprochen wird. Sie habe Potenzial, sehe nicht schlecht aus und die Bügelei sei hervorragend. Spitzengebäck, werde einen guten Preis auf dem Markt erzielen. Ohne eine Ahnung, von was er da eigentlich spricht, entfährt der Brezl spontan kein Jubelschrei. Warum sollte sie auch ohne Grund jubeln? Sie hat vorhin auch umsonst nach einem Schal gesucht, den es nicht gibt. Stattdessen verschluckt sie sich an einem Brösel und muss laut husten.

I remember in the not so distant past of my mind, when I took a job in a field that I had been active in as a hobby for quite a few years.
I didn’t listen to the stories I’d heard about how those wonderful, great things can become a burden to the point of burn-out and no return when whatever it is becomes a profession.
…I haven’t worked on a car for just for fun since 1979.
I do remember times where I was too tired to make dinner after work, so I’d grab a quick something at some fast-food joint and somehow find the energy to tinker on my bike, and work all hours into the night.
Working for a bike shop had always been a dream of mine, but I wasn’t so sure it would happen after I left a shop I had opened with a friend some years before.
But, here I am, after over a decade working at a franchise.
Yeah, I feel burned out often enough after I get home from the grind to where I have little interest – no, make that “motivation” to step into my garage. And sometimes I can here that voice telling me, “I warned you.”
The writing might be on the wall; a good portion of the people who work at my place of employment don’t ride, ever owned a bike, or seem to have any desire to. (Granted, times do change – today’s biker establishments are nothing like they used to be…).
But, I’ve come to realize that sometimes all it takes is a little time. Spell how you will, a few days off is all it takes and I’m back in the garage. I don’t know if this post has a time stamp on it but if it does, count this as evidence that the “all day to late night wrenching” is still very much alive and well in me.
If only a could get more of this free time…

Composta por Raphael Vilardi e Rita Lee, Apocalipse é uma baladinha meio bossa nova com uma pegada twist em alguns momentos e a letra não tem nada a ver com os hô-bá-lá-lás da bossa. Suicida é um negocio sombrio com cara de twist, a letra é fudidamente pessimista, Arnaldo canta como se fosse um suicida mesmo, pronto pra se jogar de cima do manicômio ao invés do viaduto do chá. Se ela não tivesse sido composta por dois integrantes (Raphael Vilardi / Roberto Loyola) que saíram da banda antes da mesma se tornar Os Mutantes, eu diria que essa é uma das musicas mais legais dos Mutantes. Ainda atendendo por O’Seis, participaram do Compacto do Gemini II, com as musicas Lindo e Tchau Mug.

We went up to our lot yesterday to lay out the placement of the house.  The bad news is that the steepness of the lot combined with the width of the house ruled out the plans we had chosen.

While we were looking we mostly focused on homes with the garage under the house, but the lot is steep so the driveway really needs to angle out and there was just no room for it.  Our designer told us we’ll need about 30 ft. for the cars to turn around.  Knowing this helps, but we did really like the plan we had chosen.  And I tend to prefer a house with a garage under or at the very least a side-entry garage, but it’s looking like we’re going to have to have the garage entry on the front.

So now, my free time will go back to browsing house plans, buying home magazines, and hoping and praying that we find something we love again.

Thats right. I have a ‘Passion For Music’ as you would call it.

It’s a first for me in many ways. So, fingers crossed, it all goes well.
