Dzisiaj napiszę trochę o oliwie, która przez wielu jest uznawana za najlepszą włoską oliwę, charakteryzująca się niezwykle świeżym, owocowym smakiem z nutką gorzkiego i pikantego migdała.

Nie pochodzi ona z Toskani, czy Sycylii. Jej owoce nie dojrzewają w prażącym słońcu południowej Italii, ale w jej północnej części, w prowincji Lombardia nad jeziorem Garda. Oliwa pochodząca z gospodarstw znad Lago di Garda od lat jest doceniana na konkursach i panelach testowych, zawsze zajmując miejsca w czołówce. Jeśli nie wygrywa

Dlaczego? Północ, w sąsiedztwie Alp. Wyobrażacie sobie gaj oliwny u zbocza gór? Wybryk natury?

Stoi za tym wszystkim łagodny, śródziemnomorski mikoklimat panujący wokół jeziora, który stworzył idealne warunki dla cyrpysów, oleandrów, winorośli, cedrów i oliwek. Kiedyś uprawiano tam pomarańcze. Ba, rosną tam nawet plamy!

Być może pierwszy raz słyszysz o oliwie z oliwek znad jeziora Garda, ponieważ nie jest ona zbyt popularna za granicą. Importerzy na ogół sprowadzają ogromne partie oleju, który sprzeda się w hurtowych ilościach (i cenie) supermarketom. Produkcja L’ olio extravergine del Garda to niecały 1% produkcji oliwy z oliwek w całych Włoszech!

Poza tym, producenci skupieni w stowarzyszeniu producentów oliwy z oliwek Olio DOP Garda bardzo pilnują i przestrzegają jednego z najbardziej rygorystycznych w kraju certyfikatu produkcji, co sprawia, że ich oliwa z oliwek jest produktem niszowym w samych Włoszech!

Aby móc produkować Olio DOP Garda, producent musi spełnić szereg wymogów, np. produkować tylko z określonych w certyfikacie odmian oliwek, ma określoną maksymalną wydajność z hektara, określony teren produkcji.

Myślicie, że to wystarczy? Zakończeniem procedury jest tzw. test panel, czyli obowiązkowa degustacja przez zespół ekspertów. Jeżeli produkt w 10-cio stopniowej skali otrzyma notę mniejszą od 7, nie otrzymuje certyfikatu.

W oliwie znad Jeziora Garda można podobno wyczuć takie aromaty jak: mięta, szałwia, rozmaryn – kwiaty – świeże liście – migdały – sosna – jabłko – banan – wanilia – pomidor – sałata – karczoch.

My w naszej ofercie będziemy mieli oliwę z oliwek z dwóch gospodarstw znad Jeziora Garda. Na pewno jako nieliczni, a może jako pierwsi?

Garda Commissioner  Fachtna Murphy has complimented his British counterpart Sir Hugh Orde for a recently published guide for police officers on how to ride a bicycle. In a Garda press release issued today the Garda Commissioner speaks of a “definite need to implement something akin to that of The Police Cycle Training Doctrine.” The training manual is a 93-page document that helps police to learn how to brake effectively as well as how to balance correctly. Garda Commissioner Murphy then goes to outline how far away a similar document is from being produced and implemented here in Ireland: “Of course it would be foolish to start at the end as it were. This sort of manual is maybe four or even five years away. We must start with the basics, which may seem arbitrary but are most definitely necessary.”

The Garda press officer Kevin Donohoe elaborated on these ‘basics’ when contacted by Not the News Ireland; “It is clear a manual on how to get dressed properly is urgently needed. Last year 17 Gardaí were injured in instances where there was a failure to put on their uniform correctly and effectively.” When pressed on the ultimate goal of the many safety manuals in the offing Mr. Donohoe had the following to say: “A significant reduction in the number of Gardaí injured by rogue shirt buttons and flailing ties. We envisage a time when all Gardaí will be able to fully enjoy the sick days they are entitled to without fear of injury or illness.” An advertising campaign is set to coincide with the publication of the first report highlighting the consequences of wrongly putting on a uniform. The campaign will feature the images of a number of Gardaí who have been victims of such errors.

Not the News Ireland was unable to contact the Department of Finance in regards to the likelihood of funding for these safety manuals being available, as their phones appeared to be dead. Not the News Ireland has since learned the phone lines have been disconnected by Eircom as the Dept. of Finance has not paid a number of bills.

Nel libro di Tullio Ferro “Vele color di cedro“ (Editoriale Sometti) è riportata una vicenda storica del 1439 che mi ha molto affascinato, degna di un film di Hollywood e che prende il nome di Galeas per montes, una arditissima impresa di ingegneria militare realizzata dalla Repubblica di Venezia che consistette nel trasporto di barconi galee e fregate dal mar Adriatico al lago di Garda, risalendo il fiume Adige fino nei pressi di  Rovereto e trasportando le navi via terra a Torbole, sulle rive settentrionali del lago, per un percorso di circa 20 km tra le montagne.

A quel tempo la città di Brescia era assediata dalle forze del duca di Milano Filippo Maria Visconti e il Garda era controllato dal capitano di ventura Nicolò Piccinino, e in soccorso di Brescia venne quindi la Repubblica di Venezia che nel gennaio 1439 sotto la guida del condottiero Gattamelata organizzò la spedizione militare Galeas per montes facendo giungere sul Garda una flotta di quasi 30 navi partite da Venezia che percorsero l’Adige fino a Ravazzone presso Mori e le fecero poi scendere a Torbole attraverso la Val di Loppio con il suo omonimo lago di Loppio e il valico di San Giovanni sul monte Baldo a quota 274 mslm.

La battaglia navale venne poi combattuta il 29 settembre 1439 nelle acque antistanti Maderno e i veneziani vennero sconfitti, si rifecero poi nel 1440 quando vinsero definitivamente nelle acque davanti a Riva del Garda.

Nel soffitto della sala del Maggior Consiglio nel Palazzo ducale di Venezia questo dipinto del Tintoretto rappresenta il durissimo scontro con i milanesi.

Roba da Hollywood, non è vero?

Raffaele Marciello si congeda dal mondo dei kart con un podio al South Garda di Lonato e un quarto posto nella classificha finale! Raffaele ha chiuso la sua carriera nel Karting internazionale con un grande terzo posto nell’ultimo round 2009 della WSK Series che gli ha regalato la quarta piazza finale in classifica generale. Un risultato che va stretto al talento di Caslano, ma che conferma quanto di buono fatto ha vedere durante tutta la stagione.

Al volante del suo kart ha fatto registrare il 3° tempo assoluto (su 179 partecipanti provenienti da tutto il mondo) nelle qualifiche ufficiali del venerdì . In finale Raffaele si è lanciato subito all’attacco ma è rimasto “imbottigliato”. Una rimonta calzante lo ha però riportato all’ultimo giro subito dietro la coppia di testa senza riuscire tuttavia ad avere la possibilità di insidiarli.

Questa di Lonato è stata l’ultima gara in KF3 di Raffaele, che ora guarda alla prossima stagione dopo i primi incoraggianti test in Formula Renault.

The 1st of November was Michela’s birthday and as I tend not to give material presents but emotions, I tried to organize a special surprise weekend.  On Saturday morning I set up the alarm at 7:30am and started jumping around like a kid. I proposed to take the car and drive around a bit, and I recommended to pack the suitcase in case we wanted to spend the night out. “We” decided to head south, and once arrived to Milan, east. Everything ok until we got close to Peschiera: there were cars queuing already a couple of kilometers before the exit of the motorway. And from there to our destination it was a long uninterrupted line of cars. But finally we got to (surprise surprise) Gardaland (a theme park, for those who don’t know it)!!! Once there we started queuing for the tickets, were we bougth…four, as Marco and Lara were also arriving, while Enrico and Isabella were waiting for us inside the park already.  Once inside it was clear that it was not really as expected, a quite day in the off-season: it was probably the busiest day of the year. So we ended up queueing one hour or more for each ride, and half an hour to get food. But it was really good fun to be together and just talk without any break from the first to the last moment. We had dinner in a nice Trattoria together and me and Michela went to Verona for the night while the others drove back home.

On Sunday we did the tour of the Garda Lake, which was truly magnificent. However it was clear that the season for weekend outdoor activities such as hikes and bicycle rides is (sadly) over until next year. But we’ll find something else to do …;)

The forests around lake Garda in October and November are colored with the warm colors of autumn.

Nature activities like foliage originated in the United States, are now much appreciated by our tourists. You can walk and take pictures taking advantage of this beautiful colours extending outdoor activities in close contact with nature until late autumn.

Our area favorable climate allows long excursions by Lake Garda. Beech and wild cherry trees and the main producers of beautiful colors ranging from red, orange and yellow.

Som Karl Palmås tipsar om på sin blogg 99, our 68 skriver statsvetaren Svend Dahl i senaste numret av Neo (pdf) om hur Miljöpartiet håller på att bli populärt bland urbana liberaler. Artikeln tangerar med andra ord min tes om MP-sympatisörer från ett tidigare inlägg:

Med statsvetarna Ulf Bjerelds och Marie Demkers uttryck skulle vi kunna säga att det till stor del handlar om ”världsförbättrande fria logotyper”, en del av vad sociologen Richard Florida kallar ”den kreativa klassen”.

Dessvärre finns här i Göteborg ett exempel på hur MP agerat på ett sätt som kan vara komprometterande i dessa sympatisörers ögon. Svend Dahl avslutar sin artikel.

Är det kanske så att miljöpartiet i sin iver att visa sig regeringsdugliga är redo att kompromissa bort både liberalism och miljöhänsyn?

Kommunalpolitiken i Göteborg kan fungera som ett varnande exempel. Här har miljöpartiet gått med på att riva delar av stadsdelen Gårda i centrala Göteborg för att möta socialdemokraternas krav på ett nytt parkeringshus för mässan. Nu är det i och för sig inte samma sak att förhandla med historiens svagaste S-ledare, Mona Sahlin, som att samarbeta med en av de starkaste S-avdelningarna i landet.

Men om Gårdafrågan är en vägvisare för hur miljöpartiet kommer att agera i regeringsställning är det lätt att bli pessimist. Då riskerar miljöpartiet att 2010 års version av centerpartiet. Alltså det parti som lockade liberala väljare, bara för att strax därefter göra dem besvikna.

Det kan vara på sin plats med en rekapitulation. Diskussionen handlar om den ganska nedgångna men kulturhistoriskt värdefulla stadsdelen Gårda. Stiftelsen Svenska Mässans VD Lennart Mankert och styrelseordförande Roger Holtback vill riva 20 landshövdingehus – det sista som återstår av ursprungligen närmare 160 stycken fastigheter som utgjorde bostadsbeståndet i arbetarstadsdelen Gårda – för att ge plats åt ett parkeringsgarage som Svenska Mässan säger sig behöva för att kunna utvidga sin verksamhet. (Svenska Mässan är en del av Göteborgs stads satsning på att etablera sig som evenemangsstad och är lokalen för bland annat Bok & Bibliotek.) Trots att man exempelvis kunde bygga ut nöjesfältet Lisebergs parkering istället för att bygga ett nytt parkeringshus där det i dag finns kulturhistoriskt värdefull bebyggelse som bör kunna rustas upp, så har byggnadsnämndens ordförande Mats Arnsmar (S) uttalat sitt stöd för Mankerts och Holtbacks förslag.

Det som håller på att drabba Gårda hade kanske inte kunnat hända om det inte vore för den så kallade Göteborgsandan. Björn Sandmark, chef för kulturförvaltningen (och för övrigt har en blogg), skriver om detta fenomen som någonting positivt.

Det finns många åsikter om vad Göteborgsandan är, och de förändras över tiden. Den vanligaste tolkningen i dag är kanske en sorts nätverksbyggande över institutions- och myndighetsgränserna med stadens bästa för ögonen [sic!].

Under de senaste decennierna har den ofta blivit ihopkopplad med den politik som Göran Johansson bedrivit, som i ett nationellt perspektiv möjligen varit mindre partitrogen och mer haft Göteborgs bästa för ögonen [sic!]. En annan framgångsrik företrädare är Göteborg & Co, som satt staden på världskartan för stora evenemang.

En alternativ tolkning av fenomenet “Göteborgsandan” är att det är ett slags falskt konsensus som lägger en våt filt över all offentlig debatt, hämmande för pluralism och kreativitet. Vilka det är som vet vad som är “Göteborgs bästa” begränsar sig nämligen till en exklusiv grupp människor, företrädesvis gubbar, vilket statsvetaren Johan Karlsson visat i ett par inlägg på sin blogg Mothugg. Motsatsen till vad redan John Dewey konstaterade om demokrati: En brokig mångfald människor är bättre problemlösare än en liten klick likasinnade.

I den här soppan har Miljöpartiet klampat rakt ut. Trots att Socialdemokraterna inte kan driva  igenom rivningen av Gårda utan stöd från MP och Vänsterpartiet, eftersom de borgerliga partierna i kommunfullmäktige har andra planer, har företrädarna för MP av någon anledning valt att lägga sig helt platt för det stora partiet. Kommunalrådet Kia Andreasson hävdar – efter lång en tids tystnad - att MP fått igenom att huvuddelen av husen ska sparas (vilket också ska vara partiets budskap utåt), men just dessa hus har aldrig varit hotade av rivning. Om MP inte fått någonting annat i utbyte för stödet är det en väldigt dålig deal. Mer i linje med MP:s ideologi skulle vara att driva ett förslag för stadsdelen liknande det yttrande som lämnades av nätverket YimbyGBG, liksom att göra Gårda till ett kreativt centrum – som nätverkets Johannes Åsberg skrev på GP debatt tillsammans med Gårdakonstnären Malin Bellman och Chalmersforskaren (och MP-medlemmen) Karl Palmås.

Ett av argumenten för rivning, förutom att Svenska Mässan vill åt utrymmet, är att luftkvaliteten så nära E6:an är undermålig. Men där mätaren satts upp är det ingen som bor, och förslaget från YimbyGBG skulle avsevärt förbättra luftkvaliteten i boendeområdet. Ett annat argument är att de rivningshotade landshövdingehusen är så nedgångna att de inte duger som bostäder. Men det stämmer inte, enligt Svenska byggnadsvårdsföreningen såväl som de boende i området. Det som framför allt behövs är en renovering av exteriören. Kia Andreassons försvarstal om att det inte är någon idé att kämpa mot rivningen om man inte har någon plan för upprustning är med andra ord ganska tunt. Det ligger något i hennes kritik av hur Göteborgs fastighetskontor länge låtit området förfalla, men det behövs ingen totalsanering likt rivningarna av Klarakvarteren i  Stockholm för att göra något åt det.

Partisekreterare Agneta Börjessons beskrivning av miljöpartisten som en ung människa, företrädesvis en kvinna, med ”en positiv attityd till stan” klingar lite falskt med rivningarna av Gårda som resonansbotten. Jag är övertygad om att en närmare utredning skulle ge beskedet att medlemmarna inte vill ha överenskommelsen med S i Göteborg. Gröna föredrar en kreativ stadsdel framför ännu en eftergift för bilismen. Jag anar dessutom ett bland gröna förändrat förhållningssätt till staden. Man har, likt Douglas Foy och Robert Healy i Massachusetts, börjat inse att städer inte per definition är miljöskadliga. Fram växer ett sätt att se på dessa beboeliga cirkulationer – fokuspunkter för flöden av människor, idéer, kapital, etc. – som mentala, socioekonomiska och geobiologiska ekologier. Till det spåret ska vi återvända i kommande inlägg på temat “urbana ekologier”.

Un numero monografico che l’introduzione definisce un cammino attraverso la natura e la storia del Garda, dedicato all’itinerario escursionistico (quasi 100 km) che collega Salò a Limone, tracciato su iniziativa dell’Azienda Regionale delle Foreste e intitolato a Roberto Montagnoli, che unisce la costa alla rete di strade e sentieri dell’entroterra e permette di entrare in contatto con la straordinaria varietà di paesaggi che caratterizza il territorio.
Uliveti e boschi, limonaie e leccete, ondulate colline e impervi dirupi rocciosi si alternano a ogni tappa.
I piccoli borghi di mezza montagna guardano spesso a panorami mozzafiato; e i paesi della Riviera accolgono i visitatori con il loro intramontabile fascino.

L’ho letto ed è proprio un bel numero denso di informazioni e suggerimenti per escursioni e visite.

Come immagino altri a San Felice, anch’io ho partecipato allo studio osservazionale sulla grave epidemia che ha colpito San Felice lo scorso giugno, avviata dal Dipartimento di Medicina, S.S.D. Gastroenterologia degli Spedali Civili di Brescia, responsabile il Prof. Alberto Lanzini, studio che giudico positivamente in quanto più se ne sa e meglio è su questa brutta vicenda.

Nei giorni scorsi ricevo a casa questa busta con tanto di timbro ASL di Brescia con un nuovo questionario che compilerò al più presto:

All’interno della lettera trovo una serie di pagine tra i quali il foglio informativo di ASL sulle finalità dello studio che letteralmente riporta:

Gastroenterite acuta virale e incidenza/storia naturale di sindrome dell’intestino irritabile post-infettiva e di morbo celiaco: studio osservazionale prospettico di coorte su epidemia da Norovirus.

La sindrome dell’intestino irritabile è una condizione clinica abbastanza diffusa caratterizzata da dolore e/o fastidio alla pancia associati ad alterazioni del modo di scaricarsi.

Il morbo celiaco è una intolleranza alimentare che colpisce solo soggetti geneticamente predisposti e che consiste nella perdita della tolleranza al glutine (una proteina che si trova in molti cereali (frumento, grano duro, segale, orzo, farro).

Per entrambe queste condizioni ci sono ipotesi che correlano un episodio di gastroenterite infettiva con il loro esordio.

Subito mi  viene un dubbio in merito al mio post del 14 settembre in cui riportavo casi di transaminasi alte a distanza di mesi tra i coinvolti nella grave epidemia da Norovirus e quindi inizio qualche ricerca.

Premetto che non sono un medico, anzi, da normale cittadino di medicina ne capisco poco se non nulla, ma cercando velocemente in rete trovo ad esempio questo articolo sull’International Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepathology (anche in PDF) in cui all’interno letteralmente c’è scritto:

Therefore, norovirus infection has to be included among the conditions that are associated with increased numbers of IELs (eg, coeliac disease, …).

che tradotto in italiano recita:

Quindi, l’infezione da norovirus deve essere inclusa tra le condizioni associate alla crescita del numero di IEL (es. celiachia, …).

Opps, mi dico, già un particolare torna.

Quindi provo a fare un passo in più e provo a verificare se la celiachia o la sindrome dell’interstino irritabile provocano l’innalzamento delle transaminasi.

Andando sul sito della Associazione Italiana Celiachia ho trovato una risposta del Prof. Umberto Volta il quale dice letteralmente che:

… l’ ipertransaminasemia senza una causa eziologica nota sia un possibile segno di presentazione di celiachia ed il suo manifestarsi è imputabile ad un aumentato passaggio di antigeni alimentari attraverso la barriera intestinale (con incrementata permeabilità nella celiachia) ed al loro successivo arrivo attraverso il circolo portale al fegato con conseguente citonecrosi epatica. Abbiamo dimostrato con numerosi contributi scientifici che la dieta aglutinata stretta normalizza i valori delle transaminasi nel giro di 3-6 mesi.

E il prof. Volta non è l’ultimo arrivato essendo co-autore dello studio “Anti tissue transglutaminase antibodies as predictors of silent coeliac disease in patients with hypertransaminasaemia of unknown origin“, pubblicato su Digest Liver Dis 2001; 33:420-425 (U. Volta et al.) in cui proprio all’inizio dell’abstract dice:

Unexplained hypertransaminasaemia can be regarded as an extraintestinal presentation of coeliac disease.

Oppss, anche questo torna!

E così potrei citare tracce che ho trovato di correlazione tra sindrome dell’intestino irritabile (che in termini medici viene definito con l’acronimo IBS) e ipertransaminasemia.

A questo punto però io non capisco quello che a mio personale avviso è un duplice atteggiamento di ASL che da una parte risponde tramite il Direttore Sanitario Dott. Vassallo dicendomi in pratica che non ci sono indicazioni diverse rispetto al decorso benigno, dall’altra parte invece presenta evidentemente dei dubbi a cui con questo studio vuole cercare di dare qualche risposta.

Ora, so che verrò accusato di allarmismo, ma ripeto che la mia intenzione è solamente essere da stimolo, perché ho la netta sensazione che si stiano sottovalutando aspetti medici e ritengo siano temi di indagine a cui andare a fondo con decisione anche perché ci sono persone che continuano ad avere problemi dopo l’epidemia e nessuno sta dando risposta.

Anzi, giro subito queste mie perplessità al Prof. Lanzini.

Il vice Chief Constable del PSNI parla dell’attuale minaccia dissidente repubblicana

Judith Gillespie, vice Chief Constable del Police Service of Northern Ireland, ha parlato di una ’seria’ minaccia dissidente in occasione dell’apertura del seminario transfrontaliero della Garda-PSNI, in corso a Dundalk nella contea di Louth.
Stando alle sue dichiarazioni sono centinaia le persone coinvolte in attività dissidenti che si concretizzano in un severo rischio per la comunità e in una minaccia in continua crescita.
Parlare di individui coinvolti non significa parlare dei soli attivisti dissidenti, che ammonterebbero a poche centinaia. La cerchia si allarga infatti a”persone che tacitamente li sostengono, persone che chiudono un occhio su quanto fanno o non riferiscono quello che fanno. . . o prestano loro un veicolo”.
I dissidenti repubblicani sarebbero impegnati anche in attività criminali atte a racimolare fondi a sostegno della loro lotta armata. Resta in corso l’attività di reclutamento e il livello di minaccia è stato innalzato a ’serio’.
“Questa non è una parola che usiamo arbitrariamente, la usiamo con la massima attenzione. Siamo ovviamente molto preoccupati per il livello di minaccia e conviene a tutti noi lavorare insieme “, ha affermato la Gillespie che ha ribadito anche l’intenzione della PSNI di non voler veder tornare l’esercito per le strade del Nord, puntando piuttosto sulla capacità di combattere il terrorismo senza dover ricorrere all’aiuto militare.
Fachtna Murphy, commissario della Garda, ha ricordato che nonostante si abbiano notizie di attività di reclutamento in corso nella Repubblica, è molto più estesa a nord del confine e allo stesso modo la minaccia costituita dai gruppi repubblicani, si è concentrata in Irlanda del Nord.
La conferenza transfrontaliera comporta la condivisione di intelligence e la pianificazione di ulteriori indagini contro i gruppi dissidenti impegnati in attività criminali, per racimolare i soldi necessari a finanziare le loro attività. Atti di terrorismo sarebbero stati sventati dalla conferenza stessa.
“Quando queste persone mettono ordigni sotto le auto a Belfast o a Derry o quando lasciano dispositivi di 500 libre in luoghi come Forkhill, non si tratta di criminalità a fini di lucro, ma si tratta di una minaccia per la società.”
Dermot Ahern, ministro della giustizia irlandese, ha detto che il solo modo per la  Repubblica di potere combattere il terrorismo, è unendo le forze con la polizia della Gran Bretagna e del Nord.
I due giorni della Conferenza hanno fornito alla Garda e agli ufficiali della Psni, l’opportunità di condividere informazioni, di progettare operazioni e  costruire relazioni personali.
Ogni risorsa è stata messa a disposizione della Garda e della Psni per combattere il terrorismo.
Il ministro per la sicurezza Paul Goggins, ha dichiarato che il livello di cooperazione tra la Repubblica d’Irlanda, l’Irlanda del Nord e Gran Bretagna, non è mai stato a livelli così alti.
“Questo approccio unitario, sia a livello politico che operativo, sta producendo risultati e invia un messaggio molto chiaro alle bande di criminalità organizzata: non c’è nascondiglio su entrambi i lati del confine per la loro attività illegale”.

Dissident republicans pose ’severe’ risk – PSNI (The Irish News)
Several hundred people are actively involved in dissident republican groups and pose a “severe” and increasing threat, one of the PSNI’s most senior police officers has said.
PSNI deputy chief constable Judith Gillespie also said many people formerly involved in terrorism were now using their old gun-running routes and methods for “other contraband” associated with organised crime.
She said dissidents were continuing to engage in for-profit crime to raise money to fund terrorism. Joint Garda-PSNI operations were trying to combat this activity and to ensure the Border could not be exploited by the organisations.
Dissident groups were also continuing to recruit and the threat they posed north of the Border had been raised to “severe”.
“That’s not a word we use wantonly; we use it very carefully. We are obviously very concerned at the level of threat and it behoves us all to work together.”
Ms Gillespie was speaking to the media ahead of the opening of a Garda-PSNI cross-Border seminar on organised crime being held in Dundalk, Co Louth. The conference proper was not open to the media.
When asked how many people were involved in dissident groups, Ms Gillespie said. “We’re talking in the low hundreds, but it depends what you mean by ‘involved’.
“There are people who tacitly support these people; those people who turn a blind eye to what they do or don’t report what they do . . . or by lending a vehicle. But in terms of active involvement, you’re talking about low hundreds.”
However, she said the PSNI did not want to see British soldiers back on the streets and believed the force had the capacity to fight terrorism without on-street military support.
Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy said while there was evidence dissidents were recruiting in the Republic, most of this activity was in the North.
Similarly, he added, the threat posed by the groups was concentrated in Northern Ireland.
The cross-Border conference would involve intelligence-sharing and the planning of further investigations against dissident groupings engaging in crime to raise the money needed to fund their activities. Acts of terrorism would be foiled by the same cross-Border co-operation.
“When these people plant under-car devices in Belfast or in Derry or when they leave 500lb in places like Forkhill, it’s not about crime in terms of making money, it’s about the threat to society.”
Innocent civilians were not only physically threatened. People also suffered fear and intimidation and policing was threatened.
Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern said the only way the Republic could combat terrorism was by joining forces with police forces in Britain and the North.
He said the two-day policing conference provided opportunities for Garda and PSNI officers to share intelligence, plan operations and build personal relationships.
Every resource was being made available to the Garda and PSNI to combat terrorism. “The foot is not being taken of the pedal,” Mr Ahern said.
The Northern Ireland Office security minister Paul Goggins MP said levels of co-operation between all the law enforcement agencies on both sides of the Border had never been better.
“They are working as one to arrest, disrupt and seize goods from organised criminals,” he added.
“This united approach at both political and operational level is producing results and sends a very clear message to organised criminal gangs that there is no hiding place on either side of the Border for their illegal activity.”
Mr Goggins said the use of a car bomb in an attack in Belfast last Friday, which targeted the family of a police officer, underlined the “grim” threat from terrorists for police officers on the front line.

La passeggiata lenta di ieri per campi e borghi di San Felice, Portese e Cisano, complici il sole splendente e un cielo terso è stata assolutamente meravigliosa, di quelle che ti fanno dire:
abbiamo la fortuna di vivere in uno dei luoghi più belli al mondo!

In realtà non c’è molto da dire se non che i panorami di cui abbiamo goduto hanno lasciato letteralmente incantati tutti i partecipanti (che anche questa volta sono stati in numero al di sopra delle nostre aspettative) e le descrizioni poi del Prof. Antonio Foglio (co-autore del libro “Borghi, ville e contrade di San Felice“) dei luoghi in cui siamo passati e di dettagli della loro storia ha reso la giornata interessante anche dal punto di vista culturale e della conoscenza dei posti in cui viviamo.

I bambini poi, manco a dirlo, si sono divertiti un mondo a correre per i campi, a salire e scendere gli argini, a raccogliere fiori e olive, a giocare a spade con rami secchi o a rincorrere una lepre …

La visita poi al meraviglioso Palazzo Cominelli a Cisano (dal cui balcone si gode la magnifica vista della foto grande in alto), proprietà dell’omonima Fondazione Cominelli, e l’accoglienza che ci è stata riservata dal nuovo Consiglio di Amministrazione della Fondazione e in particolare dal Presidente Michele Cassarino è stata la ciliegina sulla torta.

La visita alla Fondazione Cominelli è stata anche un’occasione per un inizio di scambio di idee su come riportare la fondazione ad essere una risorsa anche per la comunità locale.
Personalmente sono certo che quando per fine anno proveremo a mettere a punto le linee d’azione per i prossimi anni della nostra Associazione San Felice più felice, troveremo temi di lavoro comuni con la Fondazione Cominelli.

Per chi volesse godere di altre immagini della bellissima giornata ho realizzato un piccolo album fotografico.

Mi ha fatto molto piacere anche sentir parlare ieri un nostro amministratore locale di minoranza Bruno Bordignon di progetti di recupero e valorizzazione di percorsi, sentieri, strade consorziali da adibire al pubblico, con volontà di andare a verificare anche situazioni dubbie di privati che potrebbero aver “involontariamente debordato” i confini inglobando e chiudendo passaggi in realtà pubblici.
E coincidenza proprio ieri è apparso un articolo sul Bresciaoggi con una interessante intervista al Sindaco Paolo Rosa dal titolo:

• Turismo, San Felice punta su una rivoluzione «verde»
  IL PROGETTO. Il Comune ha deciso un robusto intervento per caratterizzare la propria offerta.
  Un milione e mezzo di euro per sentieri, spiagge e percorsi tra Baia del Vento, San Fermo, Cisano, Portese e il capoluogo.

Se su questo tema questa è la strada che l’Amministrazione Comunale ha deciso di intraprendere non mi resta che dire un: Bravo Paolo, Bravo Bordignon, bravi tutti, e se il buongiorno si vede dal mattino … buongiorno San Felice!

Che dire, lasciateci sognare pensando che questi sono anche i frutti dei semi che negli ultimi due anni abbiamo pazientemente seminato con la nostra Associazione San Felice più felice e con tutte le iniziative che abbiamo messo in campo!

P.S. – Tranquilli, non mi sono dimenticato del caso acqua, in un modo o nell’altro arriveremo a capo anche di quello, è una mia promessa personale!

Ieri pomeriggio non ho resistito, mi sono preso un pomeriggio libero e sono andato in bici lungo la Valtenesi, seguendo il litorale del lago e percorrendo ove possibile la spiaggia; l’aria era fresca, ma ecco la meraviglia che si poteva vedere e di cui si sono nutriti i miei occhi …

Effettuata esplosione controllata a seguito dell’avviso di un dispositivo di 600 libre di esplosive a bordo del furgone abbandonato su un ponte nel villaggio di Clady

Un’esplosione controllata ha avuto luogo dopo che la polizia è stata informata della presenza di un ordigno di 600 libre di esplosivo a bordo del furgone abbandonato sul ponte di Urney Road, nel villaggio di Clady, contea di Tyrone.
Due gli arresti in connessione all’allerta. Gli uomini, rispettivamente di 28 e 34 anni, sono stati arrestati a Derry nel pomeriggio e sono attualmente in custodia presso la sezione gravi crimini di Antrim.
L’operazione di sicurezza è tutt’ora in corso.
Il tutto è iniziato alle 21 di ieri 14 ottobre. quando un furgone Renault grigio è stato abbandonato sull’Urney Road Bridge che attraversa il fiume Finn nella contea di Donegal. I primi ad insospettirsi sono stati alcuni membri della comunità, che hanno deciso di recintare l’area chiamando nel frattempo la PSNI.
“Gli automobilisti e pedoni stavano ancora passando vicino al  furgone abbandonato e alcuni giovani stavano guardando dentro”, ha dichiarato Gareth Wilkinson.
L’intero paese è poi stato blindato da poliziotti armati fino ai denti. Nessuna abitazione evacuata, ma chiuse tutte le imprese. Clady è è stato ridotto ad un paese morto, metà di esso è stato totalmente isolato. Chiuse dalla Garda anche alcune vie di comunicazione della contea di Donegal.
Sono giunti gli artificieri, ma le forze di sicurezza hanno dovuto procedere con cautela, per paura che ci potesse essere un dispositivo secondario piazzato in zona.
Alla PSNI pare chiara la matrice dissidente repubblicana.
“Qual è lo scopo di esso?”  ha chiesto Pat Doherty del Sinn Fein. “Qual’è la sua valenza? Non c’è una valenza visibile, non c’è uno scopo. Essi non hanno alcun mandato, nessuna spiegabile ragione e il tutto è totalmente privo di senso”, ha aggiunto Doherty.
“E’ molto preoccupante per me, per tutta la comunità che questo tipo di attività stiano tornando nelle nostre strade”, ha affermato Derek Hussey, consigliere dell’UUP.
Clady resta isolato e gli automobilisti sono stati invitati ad evitare la zona.

Two arrested in ‘600lb bomb’ search (U TV)
Two men, aged 28 and 34, have been arrested in connection with a bomb alert in the Co. Tyrone village of Clady.
The men were detained in Derry on Thursday afternoon and are held at Antrim serious crime suite.
The security operation is ongoing in the village outside Strabane as police search for a 600lb bomb.
The alert began at around 9pm on Wednesday night when a Grey Renault van was abandoned at the Clady Bridge which crosses the River Finn into Co Donegal.
Local people became suspicious and decided to cordon off the bridge themselves as the police were called.
Shortly afterwards the PSNI received a telephone warning claiming that the van contains a 600lb bomb.
“Motorists and pedestrians were still passing by the van after it was abandoned and some young people were looking into it”, UTV’s Gareth Wilkinson said.
The village has since been cordoned off by heavily armed police.
Roads were also closed in Co. Donegal by armed Gardai.
The bomb squad has been called in but the security forces have been proceeding with caution, fearful that there might be a secondary device planted in the area.
Clady was brought to a standstill. Homes haven’t been evacuated but all business in the small village were closed.
“Half of the village is completely cut down. That’s the community here that’s been hit, and it’s been hit hard today,” Independent Councillor Gerard Foley told UTV.
Dissident Republicans have been blamed for the alert.
“What is the purpose of it?” Sinn Fein west Tyrone MP, Pat Doherty, asked. “What is the value of it? There’s no value that we can see, no purpose. They have no mandate, no agenda that they’re explaining to anybody and the whole thing is totally senseless,” Mr Doherty added.
“It’s very concerning for me, for the entire community that this sort of activity is returning to our street,” UUP Councillor Derek Hussey told UTV.
The village outside Strabane remains sealed off as the alert continues.
Police have also asked motorists to avoid the area.
Meanwhile, police have been investigating a number of telephone bomb warnings claiming that a device had been left somewhere along the Wattlebridge Road in Newtownbutler in Co Fermanagh.

Paulaner Oktoberfest Dublin is Back with Free Admission and Fun for All
8th- 18th Oktober 2009 IFSC – George’s Dock, Dublin 1.

I visited the Oktoberfest on Friday. I found it to be fun in the past but seemingly only in the daytime before all the people are twisted.

As soon as we arrived we walked behind 3 Gardai and there were 2 others Gardai trying to break up a fight. They tried to knock some sense into one guy by throwing him off a railing. This was presumably due to being drunk and having a fight with a guy who looked like his twin brother. I tried to take a photo of the rib bruising but it was a once off, presumably to calm the guy down.

As we left two more Gardai arrived to make it 7 in total to end the flamin guys evening of fun. I said “ummm lads they have enough already”.

Then it was on to the various brazen rip-offs in operation. A bratwurst from a stand with a Dusseldorf area code (0172) was selling sausages at 5 euros each. I bet they could not believe their luck as in Germany people would think you had gone insane trying to sell anything like that for even half the price.

I ate one anyway and went for beer.

There was a queue of a few hundred people forming to go down to the floating platform. I bought a beer in a german style restaurant. Others feared the wooden building and its cloudy weissenbier and chose to drink the pilsner from a trailer with an even longer queue. I asked a guy for a light and asked him if he knew what the queue was about. He said they were charging 10 euros after 10. It was’nt even 9pm and the place below was not half full.

We considered using a table as a bridge across but I felt you were guaranteed to smash your face and lose some teeth, probably what was happening to people around us.

Here is an entirely empty bar and the barmaid was singing and dancing because the rip off was so great and she did’nt even have to serve anyone:

We went into the Ely or the Sly as it should be called. The asshole working there said you could sit at the bar upstairs (the ground floor was known as the upstairs) and we would be better off going in as it was 7.50 a pint below (the gimp). We had a drink and after 10pm the queue was no more. Big shock.

I asked the guys taking the money why there had been such a queue. He said they were full. I said “who are you trying to fool?, there was tons of room” and I didnt bother to tell him that I saw less than a dozen people left in around 15 minutes earlier. He said “how dare you disregard our blah blah” – he could’nt even look me in the eye as he was lauging.

I had already paid my money and dublin security guard number 2 said “ahhh, dont leave him in, ha ha”. I said “you can fuck off” and walked in. I turned and said “who is organising this thing” and he said “we are”. I actually meant what event management company but there was no point talking to brick heads any more.

Their website said 8pm but the person who ordered the posters had a later time, not that it means anything and was told that “the sign here says 10″.

The place was full I was told:

We got a litre fairly quickly. My friend asked me how much a litre was and I said “11 euros or 5 in Germany”. It was probably more like 7 but I had made my point. The German barmaid smiled at me as she knew how fucked people were being, probably them too. There was a glass deposit of 5 euros. We ordered 2 litres but the retard Irish barman could’nt even get that right. He finally got what we wanted but was unable to subtract 11 from 30. I had to tell him the answer. Some German girls were trying to carry a tray of glasses through a crowd nearby and said “can you please go away”. She was only in night two and there were ten ahead.

There were some guys getting thrown out for pissing over the side – one was refusing to go and was in a headlock. Some others had clearly been out since after work. I saw one of them in an expensive Eterna shirt covered in shit. He had fallen down in the rainy sludge that comes when hard black plastic gets covered in food, beer and rain. He still wanted to hang around for more craic and was swinging around and was only being held up by his friend.

This guy on the bench had a bit too much excitement for one night.

At the end of the night the Germans had done their best. The band played some great music that reminded me of the Fatherland. We took one last walk around inside the tent and the place was going even more nuts. I saw that the security guards were busy. I shouted “theres someone smoking weed” and they ignored me as some guy was trying to sing into the microphone – they said “get da fukkin eejit offa da stage”.

I still wonder why this sort of crap has to happen in Ireland – they gouge the fuck out of people because everyone is at it and its too easy. So much for friendly blah blah. Its a cruel joke like almost any festival in Ireland.
