Greetings LiveTownies!

Hope you are keeping warm. Today I have for you fabulous photos and a summary of the August LiveTown event of last Friday evening. We had 6 acts as follows:

The first two were singers, of folk and jazz (we love you both, but we don’t have a photo from the night):
Kate West (sweet of tone and sweet of nature) folk singer and guitar player. Surely not old enough to be the mother of part of another of our young acts. (See Juronimo, below)
Aimee Crathern, a new talent to LiveTown and destined to be a crowd favourite, with powerful jazz vocals and backed with karaoke, sang with both spirit and maturity. Come back and sing another time, Aimee!

Garida. This multi-instrumental group of four friends played lively folk tunes including jigs and hornpipes, utilising Irish bouzouki, mandolin, flute, recorder, violin, guitar and the “swoonful” (overheard comment) voice of Matthew Lykos.

Saffron. To the accompaniment of the hypnotic and fascinating hurdy-gurdy and drums, swirled the lithe, colourfully-dressed women of Saffron. The first of our acts to grace our blog-roll, check out Saffron’s My Space profile! A skilled small dancer also entertained us.

Sierian, a delightful singer-keyboard player with mostly original songs, had a memorable, haunting vocal style and good (borrowed) keyboard mastery. (That was the keyboard that was borrowed, not the mastery).

Seirian

The big and intricate sound of Jeronimo (Mischa and (Kate’s son) Ishan) prompted an anonymous prediction that “Red Sky” will be their first single on Triple J.

One of our previous event performers mentioned the amazing quality of our sound system and sound technologists. “Just like you’re playing, only louder, you don’t even know it’s there”. Thanks Kiffen and Roley and RKG Speaker Systems.

Thank-you to our beautiful volunteers, including gentle lady of the soup, rolls, coffee and mulled wine: Jenny (the kitchen was a-buzz between acts) and generous photographer: Peter.

We owe thanks for the whole concept including this particular evening to the neverending enthusiasm, organising skills and musical knowledge of Mreya. Good work once again!

I don’t know about you but my world feels richer with real live music in it. Let us know your experience in the comments section below. The more voices the merrier!
