Personally, I predict passengers will be truly jubilating when the issue of inadequate terminal facilities in Lagos is addressed and approached with a sense urgency. The GAT Terminal, from which Arik operates, is both outdated and under-sized!   It is not in par with the image which Arik aims to project. It is sincerely hoped that all the parties involved (Arik, FAAN, and Bi-Courtney) will work together to upgrade facilities as soon as possible.

Smiling boy C is having an awesome time. But not because he loves this banging Kennedy Fried Chicken, but because he has actually won a Big Mac from one of those peel and scratch off games on his McD’s French Fries. You can see them as plain as day in his hands. OOPS!

But this one is killer. Yeah, I know, the South Bronx is notorious for being a dangerous place and yes, you will hear shots being fired at any given time but…who brings a Glock to a chicken party???? (Fine, an M1911, gee do you really have to be such a stickler?)

Especially a smiling blonde chick?! Here, in the Bronx, your food is so hard ass, you better be carrying!!! Come on, no advertisement is complete without a gun wielding maniac firing over a crowd.

This interdisciplinary conference seeks to explore how visual cultural practices image and imagine unruly bodies and, in so doing, respond to Patricia Zimmermann’s call for “radical media democracies that animate contentious public spheres” (2000, p. xx). Our aim is to explore how health, disability, and the body are theorized, materialized, and politicized in forms of visual culture including photography, video art, graphic memoir, film, body art and performance, and digital media. Accordingly, we invite proposals for individual papers and roundtables that consider how contemporary visual culture makes bodies political in ways that matter for the future of democracy. Proposals may draw on fields such as: visual culture, critical theory, disability studies, health studies, science studies, autobiography studies, indigenous studies, feminisms, queer studies, and globalization/transnationalism.

HOW TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL:
We kindly invite submissions from scholars, artists, health professionals, community members, and activists in all areas and disciplines. Concurrent sessions will be 90 minutes in length. Proposals for the following formats will be considered:
1) Individual papers: 15 minutes in length
2) Roundtables: 4-5 participants, including a designated moderator and a plan for facilitated discussion of ideas
All submissions will be peer-reviewed.

Individual paper submissions should include:
1) affiliation and contact information
2) a biographical note of up to 200 words
3) paper title and a 300-500 word abstract; the description of the paper’s content should be as specific as possible and indicate relevance to one or more of the conference thematics.
4) Details of audiovisual needs (e.g. DVD, LCD projection, and/or VH S). Note that participants will need to bring their own laptops.

Roundtable submissions should include:
1) affiliation and contact information for each participant
2) a biographical note of up to 200 words for each participant
3) roundtable title and a 500 word proposal. The proposal should both indicate the relevance of the roundtable to one or more of the conference thematics and outline the organization of the proposed discussion.
4) details of audiovisual needs (e.g. DVD, LCD projection, and/or VHS). Note that participants will need to bring their own laptops.

Pierderea vocii, dureri de gât

Amestecaţi o ceaşcă de lapte călduţ cu un decoct preparat din o lingură de frunze de ţelină, fierte 2 minute intr-un litru de apa . Lăsaţi să se răcească . Faceţi gargară de trei ori pe zi.

Sirop de brad

Se culeg mugurii de brad [vârfurile tinere care în fiecare primăvară] nu se spală. Se culeg atâţi cât să umple un borcan de 5kg. Pe fundul borcanului se pune zahăr cam de două degete peste care se pun muguri de brad cam de trei degete, se apasă bine după care se pune iar zahăr şi se continuă până se umple borcanul. Ultimul strat trebuie să fie de zahăr. Se leagă bine borcanul cu celofan şi capac după care se va îngropa în pământ la 30-40cm şi se va scoate atunci când se apropie îngheţul, aproape de iarnă. Cine nu are posibilitatea să-l îngroape trebuie să ţină borcanul într-o cămară răcoroasă şi întunecoasă. După ce se dezgroapă, dacă a mai rămas zahăr se amestecă cu o lingură de lemn, se acoperă bine şi se lasă la loc întunecos încă 2 săptămâni. Siropul obţinut se va pune în sticle cu dop de plută. Acest sirop combate durerile de gât şi previne gripa, fiind bun şi pentru asm.

Miros urât în gura

Tratamentul Maria Treben : Este recomandat gargară de trei ori pe zi cu ceai de salvie, călduţ , precum şi picături de ulei de ienupăr, amestecate cu apă stătută şi băute o dată pe zi, înghiţitură cu înghiţitură.

Dr. german Rudolf Breuss : recomandă ceai de pelin, o ceaşcă pe zi, vreme de 3-5 săptămâni, o priză de pelin se opăreşte 3 secunde cu o cana de apă clocotită. The Guidance Automation Extensions (GAX) expands the capabilities of Visual Studio by allowing architects and developers to run guidance packages, such as those included in Software Factories, which automate key development tasks from within the Visual Studio environment.

The Guidance Automation Toolkit (GAT) is an extension to Visual Studio that allows architects to author rich, integrated user experiences for reusable assets including frameworks, components and patterns. The resulting Guidance Packages are composed of templates, wizards and recipes, which help developers, build solutions in a way consistent with the architecture guidance.

The Guidance Automation Toolkit

Consists of a series of elements that work together to provide automation functionality, including:

Recipes Recipes automate activities that developers would usually perform manually, often by following a series of instructions. You can use recipes to ensure that repetitive and often error-prone activities are performed in a consistent manner and to simplify complex or repetitive development tasks. Recipes can be run on particular solution elements, or on a group of solution elements that share certain characteristics (for example, all C# projects).

Actions Actions are atomic units of work called in a defined sequence by recipes. The sequence is specified in the recipe definition. An action accepts input either from arguments that have been gathered by the calling recipes or from output received from an action run earlier in the sequence. Recipe actions are specified in the recipe definition.

Text Template Transformation Templates A Text Template Transformation template consists of a combination of text and scriptlets. Scriptlets are expressions in Visual Basic or C# that when run, return a string that is directly inserted into the output stream of the template. Templates are expanded by the Text Template Transformation engine included with the Guidance Automation Toolkit. Text is inserted unmodified into the template output.

Wizards Wizards are value gathering strategies used to gather values from recipe arguments. Any recipe can have a wizard associated with it. A wizard walks the developer through one or more steps, which are displayed as pages of the wizard.

Type Converters Type converters validate the value of a field and convert them from their user interface representation to a type representation

Visual Studio Templates Visual Studio templates are written in XML and are used by Visual Studio to create solutions or add one or more projects or items to an existing solution. The templates are expanded by the Visual Studio template engine. Using the Guidance Automation Toolkit, you can associate Visual Studio templates with recipes. This association means that when a template is unfolded, the wizard extension calls the recipe to let it collect parameter values (arguments) for the expansion and then, after the template is unfolded, to execute actions that may further transform solution items created by the template.

Each of these elements is collected together along with a configuration file into Guidance Packages, which are packaged and then installed as a unit. These Guidance Packages can be managed using Guidance Package Manager in Visual Studio 2005. Once a Guidance Package is installed and enabled for a particular solution, recipes can be executed to carry out the required tasks.

Domain-Specific Language Tools for Visual Studio 2005

Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs) typically are small, highly focused languages used to model and solve some clearly identifiable problems with which an analyst, architect, developer, tester, or system administrator must wrestle. Developers are already familiar with examples of DSLs: SQL for data manipulation, XSD for XML document-structure definition, and so on.

Of course, using a DSL is much easier than specifying a new one, and developing the language editors (possibly visual ones), and compilers.

Microsoft recently announced the Domain-Specific Language Tools for Visual Studio 2005, which enable architects and developers to build DSLs by adopting the same technology used to build the modeling tools that shipped with Visual Studio Team Edition for Software Architects. This technology, which can be thought of as “tools to build tools,” simplifies the task of defining DSLs, and reduces the effort and skills required to build graphical editors and compilers for them.

Using DSL Tools, designers can specify the domain model (semantics) for a new language; create a custom graphical editor that uses a domain-specific diagram notation (syntax); and construct custom text templates that use models created using the graphical editor, to generate source code and other files. Additionally, the DSL toolkit provides a validation framework that makes it easy to apply constraints to the language, and supports the creation of a standard installer package that allows the use of the new language within Visual Studio 2005.

Building a DSL for an Existing Framework

Summary: This paper describes the benefits of using a software-factory approach to improve the capabilities of Avanade’s existing ACA.NET framework. These benefits will be shown by stepping through the development and use of a domain-specific modeling asset used within the context of a software-factory viewpoint.

Introduction

One of Avanade’s strengths is the development and use of assets that accelerate the implementation of the solutions we develop for our customers. This family of assets is called the Avanade Connected Architectures (ACA). Assets targeted for .NET platform are supported within the Execution Architecture Framework called ACA.NET. ACA.NET is a technical framework that extends a co-developed Microsoft asset called Enterprise Library. One of ACA.NET’s core differentiators is the ability to accelerate the implementation of custom .NET solutions based on a service-oriented architecture (SOA). This paper illustrates Avanade’s continuing work to improve upon ACA.NET’s ability to automate and configure SOA solutions using reusable assets.

Avanade is using these assets to build several types of solutions for its customers, an example being solutions in the domain of service-oriented OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) applications.

This paper touches on some important learnings from the implementation of a modeling asset used to configure and produce SOA solutions more efficiently. This modeling asset is based on Microsoft’s Domain-Specific Language (DSL) Toolkit. To ensure this DSL asset and other ACA.NET assets work effectively together, this asset is defined within an architecture pattern for facilitating software industrialization. Microsoft has named this pattern a Software Factory.

A DSL asset must be developed by a team of people with sufficient experience in the domain to understand the key modeling abstractions. In this case, this is the service-oriented OLTP applications domain, a domain with which we as Systems Integrators are familiar.

Before diving into our solution, let’s first briefly expand on what a Software Factory is and how SOA is positioned within .NETs Connect Systems. Knowledge of these key concepts will help you understand our efforts.

What Is a Software Factory?

A software factory is a development environment configured to produce a specific type of software product quickly and efficiently. The factory converts a general purpose development environment such as Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 into a specialized development environment with tooling and guidance to rapidly develop a wide range of similar software products.

The current generation of Software Factories being developed by the Microsoft Patterns & Practices team represents the first step along a journey towards a broader vision of Software Factories. This vision, which is described in several books and whitepapers, describes elements that have not been fully implemented in the current p&p factories, including a schema definition, integrated designers, and support for “composability” and multiple viewpoints. Over time, we expect the Patterns & Practices Software Factories to progress further towards the broader factories vision, driven by customer feedbacks and platform advances.

The Patterns & Practices and VSTS Architect teams are working together to build a new factory runtime and authoring tools that will unify concepts from GAT and DSL tools, as well as provide a number of new features. As soon as the new runtime is available, you can expect the new generation of Patterns and Practices factories to leverage all of these concepts.

Avanade is currently working to align our own assets with this new runtime. As said, the asset we are describing in this paper addresses Service-Oriented Solutions. Key to this discussion is how Microsoft defines and supports SOA. Here is a very short summary on the topic.

Er zijn mensen die goed zijn in het maken van afspraken. Ze onthouden elke afspraak en komen die ook altijd na. Dat zijn ook de mensen die het niet waarderen dat ik af en toe een afspraak ehm dubbel maak. Ik ben een meisje dat afspraken maakt en dan denkt hmmm de 8e, daar was toch iets mee?

Het is niet zo dat ik de rest van de week iets te doen heb, maar toch plan ik altijd alles dubbel, waardoor de helft niet kan doorgaan. Moet ik weer wat nieuws verzinnen, maar ben er meestal wel op tijd bij. Heb volgens mij nog nooit een afspraak gemist. Maar daar staat wel tegenover dat ik er altijd stress over heb. Wat heb ik weer gemist. Ik ben altijd netjes begonnen aan een mooie agenda. Netjes bepaalde regeltjes bedacht waardoor mijn agenda goed overzichtelijk blijft. En inderdaad na een tijd is hij overzichtelijk…. ligt hij in een la leeg te zijn.

Erger vind ik het, dat ik de grote lege plekken in mijn week, waar ik zin en tijd heb voor afspraken, niet ingevuld krijg. Het is niet dat ik geen vrienden heb, ik heb veel vrienden en ze vinden het volgens mij ook wel leuk om met mij af te spreken. Maar er is een groep vrienden die chronisch geen afspraken kan maken. Of ze zitten de he-le tijd vol! Wat ook niet gezond is, vind ik. Of ze maken afspraken en zeggen die dan af. En nog erger zijn het de mensen die het afzeggen op het moment dat je belt: “Ik ben onderweg”…. “Oh huh, tja ehm ik heb eigenlijk al wat anders.” 

De laatste keer dat me dat gebeurde, liep ik op weg naar de trein. Toen heb ik heel zielig gedaan en een klein leugentje voor eigen bestwil erin gegooid. Lekker een schuldgevoel aanpraten! Tja dat krijg je er dan maar van, spotten met mij! De volgende keer dat hij op een afspraak komt opdagen, mag hij het gaan inhalen en goed over de grond kruipen! Dat zal hem leren afspraken afzeggen!

Add one more to the Army acronym alphabet soup.  CSF, Comprehensive Soldier Fitness, was formally implemented on Oct. 1.  The $125 million dollar program is focused on increasing the resiliency of soldiers and their families through five key components: emotional, social, spiritual, family and physical.

In a recent press release, CSF Director, Brig. Gen. Rhonda Cornum spoke about the Army’s determination to provide for more than just the physical aspects of soldiers.

“Being ‘Army Strong’ is more than just being physically fit,” Cornum said.  “We’re not just preparing soldiers for the battlefield.  We’re preparing them for life.”

Developed with expert civilian minds from the University of Pennsylvania, CSF’s ultimate purpose is to increase the strength of soldiers and their families, especially with the high-tempo deployment rate the Army is currently facing.

One element of CSF is the Global Assessment Tool.  The GAT will be available to soldiers over the next six months and is a confidential on-line self-assessment tool that will direct the soldier to specific self-help training modules.  A similar version for families and Army civilians should be available in early 2010.

Resiliency training is a focus point of CSF.  The CSF Web site defines it as the ability to grow and thrive in the face of challenges and bounce back from adversity, but Maj. Dave Maxwell, a student at the Command and General Staff College, has a more literal definition.

“Think of it as what happens when you squeeze a tennis ball,” Maxwell said.  “When you let go, the ball goes back to the original shape.  That’s what resiliency can do for soldiers—teach them to adapt and grow, but ultimately, learn how to get back to normal after difficult situations.”

National mental health experts have teamed with the Army to develop a more concentrated resiliency program in certifying Master Resilience Trainers.  Specially trained and certified experts, MRTs will advise commanders in the field and work to develop unit-level programs for implementation.

The MRT program is adapted from the Positive Psychology Program at the University of Pennsylvania.  Currently, there are approximately 100 certified MRTs, but the Army plans to expand numbers to more than 1,800 within the next year.  Eventually, the Army would like to have at least one certified trainer affiliated with each unit or division.

Despite the Army’s excitement about bringing a holistic health approach to address some of the problems facing soldiers returning from combat, critics wonder if CSF is simply a repackaged program in response to PTSD issues and high suicide rates.

Maxwell, however, is confident that the program is unique in several aspects, especially in the new approach to physical fitness.

Crossfit, a newly developed type of exercise program that gives soldiers a workout comparable to the physiological and emotional effects of combat, is catching on at military installations around the world.

Having implemented a Crossfit program at both West Point and Ft. Leavenworth, Maxwell has seen it as beneficial component in changing the way that soldiers exercise.

“Crossfit can be used by soldiers in areas with limited space,” Maxwell said.  “It gives them a chance to go through self-doubt emotions and then the rewards of confidence once they have completed a workout.  This is addressing more needs than the former push-up, sit-up and run.”

Certifications for Crossfit are taking place nationwide, especially within many units taking advantage of the progressive training.  However, the Army has not specifically endorsed or partnered with the company.

Program changes to physical fitness, as well as the other components of CSF, should be seen at the local level soon.  The National Guard and Army Reserve will begin sending soldiers to MRT training over the next six months, targeting units scheduled for deployment or homecoming first.

Sgt. John Hill of the Indiana National Guard thinks that the changes will be positive.

“Changes to the physical fitness aspect will address some of the injuries that occur from the way we used to exercise,” said Hill.  “The testing for emotional and spiritual problems will probably be a better way to get specialized help to the individual soldier that really needs it, as opposed to requiring an entire unit to go through generalized training.”

Soldiers are not the only ones looking forward to changes in the way the Army takes care of their soldiers.  Families see the program as a step in the right direction as well.

Army wife Stacy Johnson, whose husband is currently serving in Iraq, is thankful for any additional focus on family.

“Too often the Army forgets to really address the issues of the families at home,” Johnson said.  “There are Family Readiness Groups and resources available, but there has never been a program for soldiers specifically relating to their families and if there was one, it wasn’t effective enough.”

While both family members and soldiers viewed pilot programs for CSF and MRTs as beneficial, only time will tell the true improvements that the program will produce.

If successful, the holistic approach of Comprehensive Soldier Fitness may unveil a new type of soldier both in the field and on the home front.  Just a short time from now, there may truly be a new definition of ‘Army Strong.’

No momento em que os portugueses escolherão as orientações e prioridades políticas para a próxima legislatura, o GAT – Grupo Português de Activistas sobre Tratamentos de VIH/SIDA convida representantes das diferentes forças políticas e alguns especialistas para um debate.
A decorrer no próximo dia 23 de Setembro, às 17h00, no Grémio Literário, o encontro irá debater os seguintes temas:
Os “custos” da infecção VIH em Portugal, diagnóstico tardio e políticas de teste.
Compromissos para a não discriminação.
Liderança política em Portugal para atingir os Objectivos de Desenvolvimento do Milénio na área da saúde, no mundo lusófono.
VIH/Sida: uma prioridade?
O debate será moderado pelo presidente do GAT, Luís Mendão. Os temas serão introduzidos por convidados do GAT.
