In my opinion, love stories appeal to everyone, more so the good ones. Among the many books I’ve read, the following love stories are my favorite:

The Bridges of Madison County

I seldom cry on a book and I surprised myself by shedding tears caught up by the passion of Mary and Noah. It’s the most beautiful love story I’ve ever read and which touched me the most. I feel that the way it is narrated by the author, allows you to peep inside their hearts and experience their love for each other. It’s a bit unconventional , being about a happily married woman in her 40’s who finds herself deeply in love with a stranger.

Love Story by Erich Segal

Love means never having to say sorry

This eternal novel needs no introduction. This is perhaps the first love story that touched my heart. An unforgettable tale of love, though tragic in the end, Love Story is sure to increase one’s belief in love. Oliver and Jenny’s love is so beautiful that it lingers in one’s heart forever.

The Great Gatsby by Scott. Fitzgerald

It’s beautiful, not so because of the story itself but by the author’s prowess in bringing out the characters and their emotions to life. I greatly admired Gatsby and was awed by the intensity of his love for Daisy. I found it extremely touching that he continued to love her until his untimely death.

I wonder whether it’s a coincidence or not that all my favorites are tragic (at least to some extent). Well, I can only say that wherever there is love, there is pain too.

Boy, was he wrong. I remember when professor Wadlington talked to us about this Gatsby, and how he’d been so misguided. He’d invested everything into going back in time to get something that was impossible. Poor Gatsby. It was always too late.

A watch is very personal, so I did not want to chance spending over 0 on something she would not like. I sent photos of 20++ watches, and she picked this one for the size and the shape mostly. I received the watch today, and think she will be very happy with it, it is very nice, and has a nice feel.

The only thing I personally do not like is the glass covering the watch-face: it is beveled on the sides which makes it kind of hard to read, but my mom was aware of that based on the reviews I told her about, and she still liked this one the best.

Hopefully it will work well to. Won’t know for a while as her B-day has not come up yet. But it is very pretty. OH: and the watch box it comes in is HUGE: looks like there is a bottle of wine in there, so this will be a great present for a person that always “guesses” what it is: impossible to guess based on the shape of the box!!!

Stuhrling Original Ladies Classique ‘Gatsby High Society’ Swiss Watch #145CB.12117 Overview

The 1920’s were a time of great decadence and great wealth in American history. And thanks to one of the greatest literature pieces ever written, the name “Gatsby” has become synonymous with that era and a lifestyle of opulence and a striving for wealth. Stührling Original’s Gatsby Series presents a look and feel that is right out of that era and gives you a timepiece that is a perfect choice to wear if you were attending one of Gatsby’s extravagant and lavish parties. The Lady Gatsby High Society features a classic three hand movement with quick-set date complication set against a beautiful backdrop composed of a striking combination of genuine mother of pearl in the center and a rich textured guilloche around the perimeter of the dial. Complementing the exquisite look are cubic zirconia markers all the way around with the individually applied Arabic numeral “12″ at the top. The graceful design of the high-polished stainless steel case is bejeweled as well with seventy brilliant round cut white topaz natural gemstones totaling approximately a half carat total weight. With its inverted curved sides forming an hour glass shape and a domed Krysterna™ crystal sporting beveled moon faceting, Lady Gatsby High Society is right at home among any fashionable gathering. The decorated screw-down case back covers the premium Swiss quartz engine that drives Lady Gatsby High Society day and night. So for your next trip to the Hamptons, you’ll want to be sure to take Lady Gatsby High Society along for the trip!

p. 60:

A sudden emptiness seemed to flow now from the windows and the great doors, endowing with complete isolation the figure of the host who stood on the porch, his hand up in a formal gesture of farewell.

I love the energy ascribed here to emptiness, a concept that is ordinarily quiet and passive. Here the emptiness is a kinetic force that fills the house and overflows out the windows and doors, so powerful that it blankets Gatsby in a protective cocoon.

Another wild party is over, and the host stands in the doorway alone, with his true mission still incomplete – the girl of his fevered dreams didn’t come. He’s chased her across years without seeing her, other than in his boundless imagination. Now she’s just across the bay, and surely she must see his mansion alight with festivity, night after night, a beacon calling to her to come and join him at last. But she doesn’t come this night, and all the people and music and laughter that evening have only fed the emptiness which now fills the house and his heart.

Long day for no pay
Well, atleast I got my Texas Burger that satisfied my belly alot.
I also got something today that satisfied my hair, a new deep conditioner.
‘Aussie 3 minute miracle Deep Conditioner for coloured hair‘, that reconstructs damaged hair ( partly from colouring), antifrizz, straightening and nurishing.
Apparently it is made mainly from all natural ingredients, specially found in Australia.
I just tried it and it worked very nicely actually, just what I need:P
It is also especially good because I tend to wear and tear my hair alot because when I style it I use pretty rough products.

I just found a website that ships Gatsby and other japanese hairproducts worldwide for very nice prices!
<<<< Click Banner!

The Styling Solid Ultimate Hold looks very nice!

I also like this commercial, for the Urutora Hado wax!
Plus, the guys doo…is awesome! I would really like to try a style like that, maybe next time I go to Björn Axén I will ask for that.

I have the 2004 issue, but I’m guessing it’s the November 2009 one you’re looking for? I’ve actually already bought a copy and it’s in transit as we speak. It is a tabloid, but Dita’s on the cover, so into my collection it goes. The cover photo is from a set Dita did 10 years ago with Alley Baggett. It’s available through the members section of Dita.net.

Kourtney woke up with her alarm in a familiar groggy daze. The large window above her bed stood a solid onyx slab – the sun still hid behind the horizon. Kourt rolled out of bed and headed to her bathroom. Much like the sun, the rest of her family still slept safe and secure in their beds. Due to the time, Kourt attempted to be as quiet as possible but her hazy state made that harder then necessary. She stumbled down the hall toward the bathroom. The hallway she walked through held an eerie, silent, pitch darkness. Once in the bathroom, she flicked on the lights, shocking (and momentarily blinding) herself. But she recovered and stumbled into the shower, water hot enough to steam the entire bathroom.

Kourt’s morning activities took their normal, though excessive, amount of time. When she finished putting on her uniform and getting dolled up for the day she headed downstairs and outside to her car. By the time she opened the front door, the morning darkness began to slip away and the sun peeked over the horizon. Silently, Kourt opened the front door, slipped out, and closed it behind her. Once outside she grabbed her phone from her purse, expecting a text from Paul – she assumed she would have to pick him up again. By the time Kourt got into her car no text of that sort arrived so she texted him:

“Hey u. Just wanted 2 c if u were up/if u needed a ride 2 school. Thanks hun.”

Sitting in the driveway of her house Kourt attempted to grasp the reason why she acted to nice to Paul – or why she still dated him to begin with, but she failed miserably. She knew she hated loathed sitting waiting on his every command, listening to his every word, letting him take advantage of her – but for whatever reason Kourt lacked the self control to stop, just tell him no, and leave. As much as she hated the negative attention she received, she loved the attention. Though, even that probably remained a mystery to her. As Kourt leaned back in her driver’s seat and yawned immensely her phone to vibrate viciously in her clenched, left hand. Once her yawn subsided she flicked open her phone to read the text.

“I swore I told u babe. Rugby practice early this morn. Already at school. I’ll c u today, k cutie?”

Kourt felt a caustic mix of delight and hatred. Not having to pick up that jerk obviously made Kourt elated, but his lack of courtesy infuriated her.

Instead of growing too upset Kourt just tossed her phone in the passenger seat, buckled her seat belt, and backed out of her spacious driveway. While driving toward school Kourt eyed the clock on the dash of her Bentley and realized how early it was. She woke up early since she assumed Paul needed a ride, and now that he disproved that she held much more time to play with. Rather quickly, Kourt reasoned going to English class one day wouldn’t be too bad, plus, leaving this early with no Paul holding her back meant the time necessary to stop and get a coffee. A regular chain coffee shop sat on the corner, a block south of West Chester. This coffee shop was nothing special, regular run of the mill corporation serving flavorless, burnt, overpriced coffee slur – or far too sugar “coffee-flavored beverages,” but their proximity to the school and status as a social symbol stood high above the drinks they served.

Kourt passed the school fifteen minutes before the first bell rang, and made it to the drive-through of the coffee shop with plenty of time. Normally, Kourt was not a coffee drinker but waking up so early, and such a hectic passed few days drove her to the sugar coma that soon touched her lips. She ordered a soy milk white chocolate mocha with whip, running out of breath after placing the order she pulled around to the next window. Kourt dug through her purse to grab the card she would use to pay for her drink, then she finally arrived at her destination. She handed the employee behind the window her card, grabbed her drink, took her card back, then pulled away. Luckily, on Kourt’s drive back to campus she stopped at the only light, and she got to taste her delicious drink. It tasted like sugar. Hot, milky, sugar and she adored it. Honestly, the amount of sugar in this one cup could have been used by master artists to carve those unbelievably sand castle with ramparts and towers and a moat, there always has to be a moat — and still enough would be left over for a regular, non diabetes inducing, cup of coffee. Kourt drank carefully eying the red light with the cup to her lips. Luckily, Kourt held the poise when the light turned green, she lowered her cup not getting any of the milky liquid on her uniform, or her made up face, saving herself from a stain or a smear. Once she got back to the parking lot, which took no time at all, she sat in her car in a line waiting to find a spot and head inside. Five minutes passed Kourtney finally got out of the line and pulled around the parking lot, finding a spot rather quickly, parked with impressive ease, then she gathered her things. With phone, coffee, and bag all collected she hopped out of her car and headed up to the front door right as the first bell rang.

By the time Kourt walked into her school Tom just hopped out of the shower. Buffalo Middle, like most middle schools, started a few hours after West Chester and other high schools. So Tom perused around the house gathering his things double checking sure not to leave anything behind. Around this time, Andrea also got ready for work, so when Tom walked into the kitchen to grab an apple to eat on his way to the bus his mom made sure he remembered to take his medicine. Tom obliged, honestly not wanting to, though he rarely ever wanted to – he just took it. Followed the directions thrown his way, even if he disagreed. Tom poured himself a cup of orange juice and grabbed his medicine from the fridge. Conveniently enough, the medicine required at least a drink when taken, but it also needed refrigeration which made taking it harder to forget. Tom placed the pill on his tongue, took a swing of orange juice, and gulped. Hard. The pill always tasted like chalk, and the effect he felt on himself never seemed positive. Tom chugged the rest of the juice from his cup, put the juice away and grabbed an apple, and then headed out – apple in hand and back pack over his shoulder.

Kourt sat in English class while the substitute for the day blabbered on and on about The Great Gatsby. None of it really interested Kourtney, though she found it rather hard to sit and focus on anything due to the caffeine running around in her system. In a pathetic means to entertain her self Kourt decided to pay attention to the lecture at hand (well, that and her phone was about to die) so sitting straight and attentive Kourt tuned in.

“Now, ya see, Daisy is this ditsy girl. She just doesn’t get it, but worse, she doesn’t really want to. But enough about her. Let’s talk about Gatsby. Since this was summer reading, I won’t, or shouldn’t,” the teacher said as she eyed around in a way that attempted comedy but missed the mark completely “be spoiling anything. Gatsby isn’t real. He created this image, this persona. Hmm, how can I explain this?” While waiting for the substitute to finish her thought Kourt was reminded why she stopped paying attention in most classes – the material just bored her to tears. Though she pushed on. And luckily for her the substitute just finished her self-interrogation and came up with an answer. “Hmm. Well, let’s say, okay you guys know those Choose You Own Adventure Books? The ones where you decide how the story goes as you read it. Well, that was Gatsby’s life. He had choices, and luckily for him, all of his choices ended in awesome, or so it seemed to anyone viewing his life from the outside. He could reinvent himself, create something entirely new, or keep on going with this person that was rather well known. To Gatsby himself though…” At this point the attempt at humor, and subsequent immense failures, and horrendous metaphors and comparisons turned Kourtney away once again. Nothing just got explained. Teachers taught in such roundabout ways that most students could not be blamed for their inattentiveness. Kourtney, now with nothing to keep her mind occupied, looked around the room in an attempt to find something to keep herself busy while not driving her completely insane, like listening to the lecture undoubtedly would.

so i saw this online recently, and i decided that i should do a similar thing.

10 books that changed my life and will forever stay in my mind.

of mice and men by john Steinbeck

this book is more than just a story. to me it was the way i discovered way more about myself and the way i deal with people than i felt comfortable knowing. the story is so perfectly and fully american. the feeling of honor and comfort clashing at every turn, and most of all the need to destroy the most beautiful parts of life. i cant read this book without a tear to this day.
rage by richard bachman (stephen king)

i really got into this book when i was about 12. i have re-read it countless times since and it always evokes a very strong and very personal reaction. there is something about the writing. it feels like a sloppy book by a teenage boy. it has all the fury, all the agony, and well… all the rage that it should. i’m sad that it is out of print, it is without a doubt my favorite book by him.

the man who would be king by rudyard kipling

magic lives in between the words of every rudyard kipling story. i can remember sitting in my grandfather’s house when i was only 10 and watching the movie version of this story. i can remember not understanding a thing. and i remember the way he watched the film. he was one of the smartest men ever to walk this earth, and when he watched this movie he didnt make a sound. he just sat there, in awe. i knew that meant it was good. so i remember watching it with him. in perfect silence. this is another story i have read and re-read, and every time i do i like it more. and i identify with it more. this story is magic.

the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald

i have beaten myself up countless times about how closely this book follows parts of my life. i know everyone who wants to sound deep says something like ‘i am gatsby’… but damn. i am. or at least, i was. this is without a doubt one of the best and most important books ever written.

the naked and the dead by norman mailer

norman mailer is the man’s writer. his stories are grizzled and masculine in ways that structured words cant describe. i have never met a real man who didnt like his work. but interestingly enough i have met countless women who hate it. i like to describe him as the serious three stooges. only guys get it. when i first read this book i couldnt believe it. his words are written in cold ink. and i understand every one of them.

old man and the sea by ernest Hemingway

this book is a ‘how to’ of how to be a man. id like to say that i have taken it to heart…
death of a salesman by Arthur miller

this book is way to personal to go into here. i just hope that im not as similar to Willy as i feel sometimes.
dune by frank herbert

the scifi novel at its greatest. this book has everything that a ‘normal respectable’ genre book has and more. the almost biblical tones and the messianic imagery alone makes this book a classic. and as if that wasnt enough, Gurney Halleck is the single greatest man in world literature. take that Beowulf!

the minister’s black veil by nate Hawthorne

this is another book that gave me something to point to. it was something i could reference to explain another little bit of myself.

our town by thornton wilder

this book/play has influenced my own storytelling more than anything else i can think of. the way it tells a somber tale but does it with just enough whimsy is the archetypal story in my mind. i cant imagine my own writing with out this book.

i only picked one book from each author. if i hadnt the list may have well ended up being all Steinbeck and Hemingway, with gatsby nailed in there as well…

A few years into my management career, I found myself part of a triumvirate of managers.

A few years into my management career, I found myself part of a triumvirate of managers. Three of us—Tom, Vince and me—of equal “rank,” working in the same department, and vying for control over our shared resources. (That’s what managers call people: “resources.”) It was an untenable situation, the three of us jockeying for position all the time, trying to be The One In Charge, trying to break this stupid three-way tie.

The boss wasn’t especially concerned about our plight, which is why this situation went on for such a long time. But after awhile he began to realize it was troublesome for the people who reported to us. They (the “resources”) recognized the competition between us and were a bit confused by it, since they all performed more or less the same job for one of us. We were three arbitrarily chosen people who seemed to be headed nowhere in particular except into each other’s paths.

When the confusion in our midst finally got the boss’s attention, he asked the three of us to meet and decide among ourselves which of us should lead the entire group. Instead of three managers of equal managerial standing, we were to emerge from this polite slugfest with one of us noticeably in charge and the other two of us somewhat reduced in rank. (If you’re thinking this was a strange approach, you’re correct. It’s not a model to follow.)

So we met. Not surprisingly, nothing was decided. We emerged from the meeting at the same impasse we’d been facing when it began.

Imagine my surprise when, an hour or two after the unsuccessful meeting, my phone rang and it was our boss calling to tell me how delighted he was the three of us had arrived at a decision.

             We had?

“Vince told me you three agreed that he would be in charge.”

             We had?

“I’m delighted to hear it’s all worked out.”

I thought to myself, “But we decided no such thing,” though I didn’t say so. I’m not sure why I didn’t—I’m rarely tongue-tied—but instead of speaking out, I reflected. It wasn’t like the boss to lie, so I was fairly sure he hadn’t made this up. I thought about Vince, and tried to imagine him telling the boss we’d proclaimed him the victor when we hadn’t.

I had observed a few things about Vince in the time I’d worked with him. He was nervous, but he pretended confidence. It wasn’t hard to see through that. He blinked ferociously, licked his lips frequently and thrummed any available tabletop. He was also articulate, energetic, and sincere. Sometimes he was even gracious. How did that add up to dishonest?

Although it would be nice to say I arrived at the answer to that question, the truth is I didn’t. But I wasn’t thrown by the inconsistency, and perhaps that’s because I’d met so many characters in books who were nothing if not inconsistent. What’s literature without protagonists who say one thing and mean another, who do the unexpected for reasons we sometimes understand, who stagnate, waffle, even lie? Updike’s Rabbit Angstrom comes to mind. So does Sloan Wilson’s Tom Rath, from The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. Even Gatsby (or perhaps especially Gatsby).

Vince continued on as The One In Charge for many months. But as you might expect, he didn’t take us anywhere. He wasn’t a visionary, and he wasn’t a man of action. As a group, we followed his example—waffling, wavering, accomplishing little. Within a year, someone else was put in charge of the group, and I broke off to work for a different part of the organization.

If there are lessons in all this, one is a business management lesson: Bad decisions don’t usually stick. For awhile, sure, but not for long. But the other, perhaps more important, lesson is that an understanding of, or at least an acceptance of, human behavior is key to success in the workplace. Leaders, followers, decision-makers are inconsistent, frustrating, complicated, and while we might want determinism and predictability from them, we rarely get it.

People who have spent time in the pages of great books, getting to know humankind thanks to the characters they’ve met, are better prepared for the vagaries of business life.

p. 59:

‘But I wasn’t even trying,’ he explained indignantly. ’I wasn’t even trying.’

The character ‘Owl Eyes’ has two odd little interludes in the novel. In the first, Nick and Jordan encounter him as a drunken visitor to Gatsby’s library during a party. After that same party, departing guests come upon a car gone off the road, wrecked in a ditch. As the crowd gathers, Owl Eyes stumbles out of the car, and the bystanders begin to berate him for his wreckless driving. But he wasn’t even trying – he wasn’t trying because he wasn’t driving. The crowd gasps as the actual driver stumbles out of the car.

As the narrator, Nick must be the eyes of us, the readers. But he’s not us – he is his own complex character, a famously unreliable narrator. Owl Eyes is us. He’s a nameless party guest, stumbling around the library, surprised to find that the books are real but cynically concluding that they are still a facade. He’s careening around the property, but he’s not even driving, he doesn’t even know how to drive. That’s us readers, we’re just along for the ride.

Many of you may have finished or are finishing up reading The Double Bind. This week, there are several chances to explore the themes in the book beyond the book:

On Tuesday at 7 pm at the Bartlett Public Library, Janine Lapete, a peer support advisor at Conway’s Alternative Life Center, will talk about her experience with mental illness and her work at ALC helping others through recovery and maintaining wellness. Janine’s talk in Conway earlier this month answered a lot of questions and provided a human perspective to counter the stigmas attached to this frequently misunderstood illness.

On Thursday at 7 pm, Starting Point will present a “Clothesline Project” exhibit and discussion at the Madison Library. The “Clothesline Project” is a display of T-shirts decorated to commemorate victims of sexual and domestic violence. Attendees can choose to create a T-shirt to commemorate a victim.

See two different film versions of “The Great Gatsby.” On Wednesday at 7 pm, the 1974 version with Robert Redford and Mia Farrow will be shown at the Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth, and on Thursday at 6:30 pm, you can see the 2000 A&E network version with Mira Sorvino, Toby Stevens, and Paul Rudd at the Conway Public Library.

And, if reading the book has renewed your interest in The Great Gatsby, the film will be shown in Fryeburg at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts center. There is a $3 for adults, $2 for students admission charge (the only One Book, One Valley event that has one), but the comfy seats and awesome sound system are definitely worth it.

Apparently using this face product will turn you into a stud. Check out this commercial by Gatsby, a Japanese brand of skin and hair products for men. The hot guy in the clip is Takuya Kimura, one of the top entertainers in Japan whose claim to fame is from being part of a boyband called SMAP, a band started in 1988. For some reason, boybands don’t really lose their appeal in Japan. SMAP is still as popular, or even more popular, than when they started out. Now if this product turns me into Jessica Alba, I’m going to go buy a huge box of it.

O mesmo vendedor tem a pomada Gatsby que um leitor Filipe comentou ser perfeita, com ótima fixação.

Fica a dica gente.

1. Use my locker!!…so that I don’t carry all my stuff everywhere (and die from the heavyness) or leave it in the common room (where someone would most likely be able to steal it)

2. Get file dividers…or plastic pockets

3. Name/date/number each piece of work to keep it in the correct folder

4. Go to the library more often and research further into blah

5. …some random other one that I put down cuz I couldn’t think of any more. [EDIT: read below...]

…altho there were a few not included because we had to give it in (WTH would anyone wanna read that?!!!). Those were: stop going on youtube in frees, stop going on hotmail in frees, stop trying to hack into FB in frees….stop going on the computer in general in frees; stop talking to people…especially Anna (:P); no Summertown at lunchtime!; try preparing stuff the day before and not doing h/w at the last minute (oh wait…I think that was my 5th point…XD)

So yeah…I’m gonna achieve THAT!…(*cough*not*cough*). Wish me luck…I’ll need it!

Over the past few decades, many, if not most, high school students have been assigned F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby.” But, whether you read the book ages ago or last year, you may still want to know, “What’s so great about “The Great Gatsby”?” What about it makes it required reading? James St. Pierre will answer this question at a One Book, One Valley presentation on Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. at Granite State College in Conway.

Speaker James St. Pierre is an instructor of literature and writing at Granite State College and teaches English at Fryeburg Academy. One Book, One Valley is the Mount Washington Valley’s annual community read program. This year’s book is Chris Bohjalian’s “The Double Bind,” for which a series of book discussions and programs related to themes in the book–including this “What’s So Great About “The Great Gatsby” program–are taking place during the month of October in locations throughout the valley. In “The Double Bind” Bohjalian used characters and settings from “The Great Gatsby,” an approach that works because of readers’ familiarity with Fitzgerald’s novel.

One Book, One Valley is sponsored by ten area libraries, White Birch Books, the New Hampshire Humanities Council, the Tamworth Foundation, the Pequawket Foundation, the Believe in Books Literacy Foundation, and local libraries’ Friends groups. For more information about the One Book, One Valley community read project, including a full schedule of events and directions to locations, see http://onebookonevalley.wordpress.com.

Ouch! My eye is itching!

What an awesome day. I would just like to thank the Lord at this moment in time for blessing me with the friends I’ve found. You guys are family to me! Okay, let’s leave the emotional stuff for another post. Seeing that my legs, back, abs and arms are pretty much broken, I can’t really type a 500-word essay now but, I will give you a recap of what has happened the life of reddevilandy10 these past 24 hours. Believe it or not kids, I was out of bed at 08h30! Now, if you don’t know me, that is about as early as I’m capable of getting up… any earlier, and I tend to be very dysfunctional. I had to do some shopping for the camp with my sister. After that, I spent the next eight hours either moving furniture, climbing up flights of stairs or waiting for an elevator to descend. In case you’re wondering, my sister moved into her new apartment (yes, I feel like using American English) today. Quite nice I must say, even though I can’t really picture myself living anywhere other than here at this very particular time.

Afterward, my friends and I went to Galaxy. I was broken. Still am. But the difference is now my feet hurt too. Only joking… It was awesome! By the way, if you guys happen to be in the Gatesville area anytime soon and are really hungry, make a turn by “Fast And The Furious” (corny name, indeed) fast food shop. I swear, that was thee biggest polony Gatsby I have ever had! I should have taken a picture of it, I know, but next time I will remember!

So now I’m in my room, about to say goodnight and sweet dreams. But, before I go, I feel the need to leave a quote…

“Even though we’ve changed and we’re all finding our own place in the world, we all know that when the tears fall or the smile spreads across our face, we’ll come to each other because no matter where this crazy world takes us, nothing will ever change so much to the point where we’re not all still friends.”

Aaaahhh…it’s good to be back pecking at my blog after more than a week away. I was in Australia visiting family among other things. More on that in my later posts.

The most exciting news so far after I got back from my trip…my Maggie Sottero Gatsby gown is arriving this Monday!!! Uncle Herman in the US did all the checking and packed it all properly, insured it and sent it via UPS complete with tracking and so I can follow the progress of my gown every step of the way. So exciting!

See, I’ve tried on this gown before while on holiday in Australia and I know how it looked on me, but I’ve been trying unsuccessfully to find pictures of a REAL bride wearing it and couldn’t find any until recently. Then I stumbled on a thread on weddingbee that had pictures of real brides trying on the Gatsby. The one I ordered is champagne with silver pewter embroidery, not the white or ivory one. I really think w’all should have another look at La Gatsby…you know, lest we forget…

And here’s a weddingbee member, bellamargot, who tried on the Gatsby in a blurry shot. Bear in mind she’s only 5′2 and a size 4 on a fat day, and she’s trying on a regular size 10 here:

Since I’m 5′10 and light years away from being a size 4, the gown sorta looks different on me. But the picture gives some visual reference to the colour and details, because that’s the colour I ordered!

I was planning wear the gown with my feathered birdcage hairpiece complete with a gorgeous flapper-inspired hairstyle and maybe a little fur stole to complete the look. My bridesman said “Don’t you think it would be …I don’t know…too much?” A valid point. I had no idea myself how it was all going to look, when you put all these elements together.

And then, the fabulous Drew Barrymore, did me the ultimate favour and gave me a visual!

Champagne gown with pewter embellishments – check.

Birdcage hairpiece – check.

Fur stole – check.

Flapper hair – check!

Here she is at the premiere of Grey Gardens:

(That’s her ex, Justin Long, circled in a heart, hehe).

Can we say TTDF??!!!! (Bridezilla speak for “Totally TO DIE FOR!”)

(The outfit, not the man.)

Of course, I’m no Drewby but having this amazing visual reference for my hairdresser and makeup artist is a real boon!

Will post more on this subject when my Gatsby arrives! Can’t wait!
