Setting

Preis
Louro do Bolo (Weisswein), 1 dl. Stoan (Südtiroler Weisswein), 1 dl Ziereisen (Deutscher Rotwein), 2 x 5-Gang-Menü, 5 cl Port und 1 x Grappa = 447.40 Franken

Harrys Tipp
Grosse Küche und ein tolles Erlebnis. Viel besser kann man es sich nicht gehen lassen. Achtung: Das dicke Portemonnaie nicht vergessen.

OK. I did NOT count the number of WHAT?!?! moments last night. But, man, do I have questions about last night’s show. My recap (and questions galore) is after the jump. If you missed last night’s show, watch it here.

I’m going to start with the flashbacks (I’ll spare you the back and forth). You’re welcome.

We see a young woman (likely a teenager) named Emily getting ready to go out. She leaves against her mother’s wishes to see an older guy, whom we never meet, and she’s involved in a car accident. She gets to a hospital, tells a nurse she’s pregnant, and next thing you know, she’s having a baby! The baby is taken away because the nurse says, “he’s too little.” Young mom hollers, “Name him John!”

Later, Emily and her mother go to see the baby. Emily runs from the room and says “I can’t do this!” and runs out of the room. Her mother asks about adoption, and then a man appears. The nurse asks if it’s the father. The mother says she doesn’t know who he is. Oh, but I do! It’s Richard Alpert! WHAT?!?!

We see a young John Locke playing a game (which is tossed around by a girl a little older than him). A mother-like woman tells him he has a visitor and to be on his best behavior. That visitor is Richard. He tells John he runs a school for kids who are extremely special and has reason to believe John is one of them.He sees a drawing that looked a lot like Smokey doing what he does – going after people.

Then, Richard shows John a baseball glove, the Book of Laws, a compass, a knife, and a comic book. Then there’s this exchange:

RICHARD: I want you to look at these things… and think about ‘em.

RICHARD: Okay, now tell me, John, which of these things belong to you?

JOHN: To–to keep?

RICHARD: No, no, John. Which of these things belong to you already?

RICHARD: Are you sure the knife belongs to you, John?

RICHARD: You sure about that? (sighs) Well, it doesn’t.

Then, he takes his toys and goes home, explaining to the mom-like lady that John’s not ready for “our school.” WHAT?!?!

We next see a teenage John locked in a room. A man, likely a teacher, frees him. Since John doesn’t want to talk about what happened, the teacher tries this little pep talk:

MAN: I know you’re probably upset right now, but I do have some exciting news for you. I got a call from Portland recently. There’s a company up there doing some very exciting things in chemistry and new technologies. They’re called Mittelos Laboratories. I spoke with a Dr. Alpert. He’s very interested in finding young, bright minds to enter into these new fields of science. They want you to go to their camp this summer. WHAT?!?!

JOHN: Science camp?

MAN: Yes.

JOHN: Don’t you understand that things like science camp are the reason why I get stuffed into lockers?

MAN: John, this is a great opportunity.

JOHN: How do they even know about me?

MAN: Well, they must have sent a rep to the science fair–your display at Costa Mesa.

JOHN: I’m not a scientist! I like boxing and fishing and cars. I like sports!

MAN: I’m gonna tell you something–something I wish someone had told me at your age. You might not want to be that guy in the labs surrounded by test tubes and beakers, but that’s who you are, John. You can’t be the prom king. You can’t be the quarterback. You can’t be a superhero.

JOHN: Don’t tell me what I can’t do!

This explains the Locke we know on the island. He and Jack were in a power struggle. He doesn’t have a huge following on the island – just the weird guy who gets picked last for everything.

The last time we see old John, it’s when he’s learning to walk again. Then, a person who we only hear at first, appears to be an orderly, telling him not to give up. Then we see him. It’s Matthew Abaddon! WHAT?!?! This is what he has to say:

ABADDON: I’m just saying, don’t give up. Anything’s possible.

LOCKE: (Chuckles) You should read my file. My spine was crushed. There’s a 98% chance I’ll never get any feeling back in my legs. So I don’t know why I’m even trying to–

ABADDON: As a matter of fact, I did read your file. You survived falling eight stories out of a building. That’s a miracle, Mr. Locke. Let me ask you something. Do you believe in miracles?

LOCKE: No. I don’t believe in miracles.

ABADDON: You should. I had one happen to me.

LOCKE: Hey, look. I just want to go back to my room.

ABADDON: You know what you need, Mr. Locke? You need to go on a walkabout.

LOCKE: Wha–what’s a walkabout?

ABADDON: It’s a journey of self-discovery. You go out into the Australian Outback with nothing more than a knife and your wits.

LOCKE: I can’t “walkabout” anything. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m a cripple.

ABADDON: Is that what you are, Mr. Locke? I went on my walkabout convinced I was one thing, but I came back another. I found out what I was made of, who I was.

LOCKE: And here you are, an orderly.

ABADDON: Oh, I’m a lot more than just an orderly, John. When you’re ready, Mr. Locke, you’ll listen to what I’m saying. And then when you and me run into each other again… you’ll owe me one.

WHAT?!?! Is HE Jacob? He looks nothing like the guy we’ve seen identified as Jacob before. He is the guy Hurley saw in the mental hospital, claiming to be a lawyer for Oceanic. Wait. Maybe he works for Widmore. Either way, I’m totally creeped out!

Now, we’re back on the island. Hurley, Ben and Locke are wandering the jungle, looking for the cabin.

Ben says he’s following Hurley. Locke decides they should set up camp and get some sleep. He hears a chopping sound, but looks to see Ben and Hurley sound asleep. He goes to explore the noise and sees a guy chopping down a tree. My next WHAT?!?! moment: it’s Ben’s dad, Horace!

He says he’s building a getaway for him and the Mrs. They need some time away from DI (Dharma Initiative). He and Locke have this exchange:

HORACE: I’m not making any sense, am I?

LOCKE: No.

HORACE: That’s probably because I’ve been dead for 12 years. Hello there. You gotta find me, John. You gotta find me. And when you do, you’ll find him.

LOCKE: Who?

HORACE: Jacob. He’s been waiting for you a real long time, man.

WHAT?!?! Now, I read a theory last week that people who die on the island, but aren’t buried seem to be the ones who “come back.” As we soon find out, Horace was not buried.

Locke tells Ben and Hurley they’re going to the cabin, that he had a dream. Ben makes some creepy remark about how he used to have dreams. They set off, with Locke saying they need to make a pit stop. Literally. It’s the giant pit with the DI bodies (also where Ben shot John). Locke goes through the bodies, looking for Horace’s remains.

HURLEY: So, this is where you shot Locke and left him for dead, huh?

BEN: Yes, Hugo, I was standing right where you are now when I pulled the trigger. Should have realized at the time that it was pointless, but… I really wasn’t thinking clearly.

HURLEY: Is that why you killed all these people, too?

BEN: I didn’t kill them.

HURLEY: Well, if the Others didn’t wipe out the DHARMA Initiative–

BEN: They did wipe them out, Hugo, but it wasn’t my decision.

HURLEY: Then whose was it?

BEN: Their leader’s.

HURLEY:But I thought you were their leader.

BEN: Not always.

WHAT?!?! Was Richard the other leader? I seem to recall Ben having a LOT to do with the killing of those DI people.

Locke finds Horace’s work shirt, pulls cabin floor plans with a map out, and they’re off. Locke tells Hurley he should go back to the beach, saying “I don’t want to put you in harm’s way.” Maybe he’s still afraid Sawyer will follow through on his threat to kill him. Hurley says he wants to go. Ben is impressed.

BEN: He actually thinks staying was his idea. Not bad, John. Not bad at all.

LOCKE: I’m not you.

BEN: You’re certainly not.

They eventually find the cabin. Ben doesn’t want to go in. He says, “My time is over.” Hurley doesn’t want to go.

Locke goes in by himself. He sees a person there – not Jacob. He says he can speak on Jacob’s behalf. And it’s Christian Shepard! WHAT?!?!

Then, Locke hears a creaking sound and turns to see… CLAIRE! WHAT?!?! And she looks REALLY weird. A little evil, a little zoned out, and like she has a big secret!

LOCKE: What’re you doing here?

CLAIRE: Don’t worry. I’m fine. I’m with him.

LOCKE: Wh–where’s the baby?

CHRISTIAN: The baby’s where he’s supposed to be, and that’s not here. It’s probably best that you don’t tell anyone that you saw her.

LOCKE: Why? Why is she–

CHRISTIAN: We don’t have time for this. The people from the boat are already on their way back, and once they get here, all of these questions won’t matter one bit. So why don’t you ask the one question that does matter?

LOCKE: How do I save the island?

Locke walks out and tells Ben and Hurley Jacob wants him to MOVE the island! WHAT?!?! How do you DO that? Is David Copperfield in the next episode?

Now, to the freighter…The chopper has returned with the people wounded by Smokey. Keamy tells Sayid he needs to know where everyone is on the island. Then, he accused Gault of giving Ben his name. When he denies it, Keamy goes to Michael.

KEAMY: Do you know my name?

MICHAEL: Keamy. Martin Keamy.

KEAMY: Did you give it to him?

MICHAEL: Who?

KEAMY: Benjamin Linus–did you give him my name?

MICHAEL: Yeah.

WHAT?!?! Why would you do that? He had no idea you were the leak!

Now, Keamy is ready to kill Michael. Gault tells him he can’t because Michael is the only one who knows how to fix the engines – BECAUSE HE BROKE THEM!

Later, Keamy says they need to go back to the island. He’s told about the sickness, then demands Gault’s key. He takes it, opens a safe and gets the “secondary protocol.” Ready for my next WHAT?!?!

GAULT: What does it say?

KEAMY: Says where Linus is going.

GAULT: How would Mr. Widmore know that?

KEAMY: ‘Cause he’s a very smart man, and if Linus knows that we’re gonna torch the Island, there’s only one place that he can go.

GAULT: What do you mean, “torch the Island”? That was not the agreement. I agreed to ferry you here for an extraction mission.

KEAMY: Fix my gun.

How did Widmore know? Is he Ben’s “constant?” Does he know because he’s in the future and the island stuff is in the past?

The pilot goes to Michael and wants to know why he didn’t tell him he was a survivor of Oceanic Flight 815.

LAPIDUS: I tell you that I’m one of the only people in the world that think that that plane on the bottom of the ocean is a hoax, and you didn’t think I’d believe you?

MICHAEL: I didn’t know if I could trust you. Your boss put that plane there.

LAPIDUS: Man, I thought I was Mr. Conspiracy, but you got me beat there.

MICHAEL: Listen to me. Listen to me. You can’t fly that guy back–Keamy.

LAPIDUS: You let me worry about Keamy, all right?

MICHAEL: You can’t fly him back! He is gonna kill everyone on that Island. Everyone. And you don’t want that on your conscience, man. Trust me.

Oh, the things Michael could tell him…

As he’s taking Michael out of the room, he sees Keamy getting some thing strapped onto his arm. He says he’s taking Michael to the engine room.

Then, we see Gault helping Sayid and Desmond get off the ship so they can warn the people on the island. Desmond chooses not to, since he’s waiting to see Penny. Armed with that fancy GPS thing, Sayid eventually sets off alone to the island.

On deck, we see guys loading up gear, oh, and the doctor who’s body washed ashore last week. WHAT?!?! Keamy appears and tells Lapidus to fire up the chopper. When Lapidus refuses, Keamy slashes the doctor’s throat and tosses him overboard. How can this be? Is time that much different on the island??? When Gault asks what’s on his arm, Keamy shoots him. Lapidus starts up the helicopter and wraps that GPS thingy in something, then takes off.
