Ontem fui assistir com uma amiga ao documentário The September Issue, integrado no Estoril Film Festival. Supostamente a protagonista é Anna Wintour, directora da Vogue americana. Uma "vilã" frágil, seca e tesa, temida e endeusada pelo seu poder no mundo da Moda (e caricaturizada no filme O diabo veste Prada). É ela quem tudo decide, o sim depois de centenas de nãos, franzires de sobrolho, trejeitos desdenhosos ou expressões de fastio. É confrangedor ver aqueles que são poderosos dentro do seu próprio mundo, vergarem-se perante ela em bajulações. E é irónico vê-la depois desconfortável no reino europeu de um Gaultier, menosprezada por um displicente Testino e banalizada pela própria filha -que não ambiciona carreira na área da Moda porque não é um meio para ser levado a sério, quando há tantas coisas mais importantes a acontecer no mundo ! rs

Mas quem rouba a cena, o documentário e a nossa simpatia, ao preencher os frios vazios que Anna vai deixando atrás de si, é Grace Coddington, a directora Criativa da revista. Uma "bruxinha" boa, esperta e divertida, que cria contos de fadas a partir de uma realidade assumida até na sua aparência "desglamourizada". De quem já foi uma bela manequim e agora já nada mais tem a provar sobre esse (o seu) aspecto.

Depois seguiu-se um debate com o grande estilista Emanuel Ungaro, que fez uma introdução sobre essa dualidade -representada no documentário- entre a criação e os interesses económicos que agora, mais que nunca, a condicionam. A pergunta era: quem dita a moda, os criadores ou as revistas de moda?

Ungaro falou de como funcionavam os ateliers desde que começou a trabalhar com Balenciaga e Courrèges, concordou que a imprensa dava um novo fôlego à criação do estilista, mas agora os valores inverteram-se levando à "falência" do criador como Valor mais alto. E à morte anunciada da Alta Costura.

Ungaro vendeu a sua marca a um grupo económico que recentemente causou polêmica ao contractar Lindsay Lohan como conselheira de moda. Ao ser questionado sobre esse tema disse que essa situação o horrorizava, mas que já não tinha qualquer influência sobre os destinos da marca que leva o seu nome -"ainda se a criação fosse destinada a grandes estrelas de Hollywwood, em vez de starlets ! Bem, talvez um dia ainda venham a ser estrelas…" -ironizou.

Perguntei-lhe: agora que os grandes estilistas estão a vender a sua alma -enquanto ela ainda vale alguma coisa ! (quem não vendeu está a falir)- …não estarão  as marcas a ficar vazias de alma, porque são motivadas apenas por interesses económicos ? (acho que ao perder o seu criador e fundador sem o cuidado de manter um discípulo por ele eleito, as marcas se despersonalizaram)

 Confesso que não captei totalmente a resposta -ele falava baixo e o meu coração batia alto pela emoção de me dirigir a ele… rs- mas ele concordou com essa ideia, o que move a moda é agora o consumo, cria-se em função do que se vende e não ao contrário -e ele sente que vendeu a alma, sim.

No entusiasmo da pergunta, esqueci-me daquilo que notei faltar em alguns: reverência (muitos -notáveis até- foram até lá pelo documentário, pela "deusa" Wintour, pela moda consumista, pelo sistema americano ? É que não ficaram para ouvir a sua antítese, o Mestre Criador europeu…)

Por isso no fim do debate, já a meio caminho da saída, voltei a correr até ele para dizer-lhe o quanto o admirava, o quanto admirava o seu trabalho e o prazer que era conhecê-lo. O seu olhar límpido, líquido e transparente, foi meu (rs) por uns momentos e o seu sorriso banhou-me. Ahhh… um Senhor ! Maravilhoso criador, uma lenda viva, um deslumbramento no uso da cor e das misturas de padrões.

Há anos atrás eu quase menina estudava estilismo, estudava Ungaro.

Remixes are either a hit or miss and normally most of them do not do justice to the original song. Some would argue what is the point of remixes if it is just  some mindless beats and a repeat of vocals. But up and coming Dutch dj Bart B More has proven to us that you can remix a song to make it way much better than the original. Infact he made the song turn into a completely different song altogether. Originally a cute little ditty from French dj/producer Martin Solveig featuring the female vocals from fellow Canadian Martina from the group Dragonette (talk about United Nation!), this song was picked by Jean Paul Gaultier to promote his latest Ma Dame fragrance campaign and the video was filmed at Gaultier mansion with a cameo from Gaultier himself.

Bart B More took the cuteness of the song and turn it into this rave of a song complete with hard beats, repeated and extracted verses of the song (but in a good way).  But the winning point of the remix is the excellent synth bassline which is very reminiscing of early 90’s classic Bizarre Inc. “Playing with knives” and to top it off, as the remix suggested, police sirens wailing throughout the remix. So very KLF. If you are longing for some good ole early 90’s rave, check out this remix, find an empty warehouse and start waving your hands up in the air.

It is almost funny how predictable we can be when we get to know ourselves.  We have always said that as people make less and less room for the fauna of this planet, the more we will worship the animals we have lost.  We believe this is at least one reason for the seemingly everlasting love of animal print in fashion.

As a friend suggested I dress as a pirate for halloween after my blog entry, I knew I didn’t have to stop by a dress-up store to get what I needed. For inspiration, I checked out Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 2008 collection. The collection was amazing and not literal, and I figured I was not dressing up as Captain Jack Sparrow. I gathered something fringey, ruffley, full silhouette, scarf, braided  hair pieces, tights, kohl-lined eyes, and the boots…

These bad boys are part of Doc Marten’s fall/winter collection. Not so sure how i Feel about these, though I love both Doc & Gaultier.
For one, it seems you can’t really wear socks with these, and I totally do not back wearing boots, sneakers, etc without socks. It’s both uncomfortable and I find that whenever i’m around someone who takes their shoes off sans socks, the odor is not so great.
What do you think?

1. Why did it take two years of post-production to get the film into theaters? And if that couldn’t be helped, why not add an epilogue or two? Four seasons is an awfully long time in fashion, to not address the changes in a fashion publication office…

2. Grace Goddington was wonderful, you always need a romantic creative type to contrast the cutthroat business front (wo)man, right?

3. Gaultier and Pilati were both hilarious in their lack of preparation, note the annoyed twitch across Anna’s lips during the two showcases;

4. Not a single other person in that Vogue office was impressive beyond the two leads- I realize few others were meant to have speaking parts and they mostly cower in Ms. Wintour’s shadow, but really? Someone else say something intelligent, clever or at least remotely cryptic in that fashion talk way… oy vey. Charlie’s mumbling blabber does not count.

5. Oscar De la Renta’s clothes are always brilliantly cut. Only the perfectionist can work fabric that way.

6. Grace’s period shoot was beautifully staged- when will unused prints such as those cuts be brought out from the archives and available in limited edition prints??

I re-watched “Valentino, The Last Emperor” the evening after.. it’s been a very fashion intense few days. But at the end of the day, a woman can’t help aspiring to the world of beautiful…

Have you ever encountered items that you cannot decide if you hate or love? Sometimes it is really quite impossible to distinguish these two strongest of emotions, and it is often a safe idea to check with a friend or family member to see if they think it is lovely, or whether they are convinced that your clothes taste has just died and gone to hell. This dress from Jean Paul Gaultier is one such example. One one hand, the luxury mesh fabric is quite dreamy and clearly top end stuff. On the other hand, it is over-the-top, dramatic, a little bit silly. The pattern, in my opinion, works when on it’s own as a strapless Jean Paul Gaultier dress – but with the coordinating top added it is too much, and would overpower anything but the most willowy frame.

That said, this designer dress is currently a real bargain, with a starting price of $9.99 – and for a Gaultier dress that cost $2475 originally, the difference is quite astounding. That said, there is a reserve (one of my eBay pet hates), so I would be surprised if it goes for a teeny tiny amount!

1. Prima di tutto cerchiamo di conoscerci un po’, parlaci di te:

Ho 17 anni e vivo a Vienna, in Austria. Ho vissuto qua praticamente tutta la mia vita, nonostante nelle mie vene scorra sangue russo al 100%, cosa di cui sono dannatamente orgogliosa. Vado a scuola, ma non è che mi piaccia molto come alla maggior parte dei teenager, e sto progettando di diplomarmi il più presto possibile.
Sono un animale notturno, ed è più probabile che tu mi veda di notte che di giorno. I Dj e la danza sono la mia passione numero 1.
Quando la scuola sarà finita vorrei trasferirmi a Parigi e studiare Moda e Arte (in effetti qualcosa che ogni ragazza vorrebbe). Amo disegnare, preparare bozzetti e creare vestiti. E amo la natura. Penso sia la cosa più bella, interessante e mistica i questo mondo. Prendo gran parte della mia ispirazione da essa.
Se mi chiedi come mi sono appassionata alla moda ti risponderei che è sicuramente grazie a mia madre. Indosso ora i suoi vestiti degli anni ‘80-’90 che sono assolutamente fantastici, e in più possiede anche 2 negozi di alta moda in centro a Vienna, che vendono marche come  Gaultier, Galliano, Balenciaga, Malandrino, Donna Karan, CK andvia dicendo. Ho avuto quindi un’intensa influenza modaiola nella mia vita.
Sono una persona di ampie vedute, non sono per niente timida, e adoro conoscere nuova gente proveniente da tutto il mondo.

2. Hai uno stile che passa dal grunge all’elegante in un batter d’occhio. A cosa ti ispiri?

Ad essere sincera non mi ispiro a niente e nessuno. E’ forse il fatto che quando esco, amo andare in club dove tutti sono vestiti al passo con le ultime tendenze dell’alta moda. Allo stesso modo adoro in modo spassionato i club underground, dove ci si veste secondo quello che passa per la mente, dove la gente si esprime tramite il proprio modo di vestire usando al 100% l’immaginazione nello scegliere il proprio look.  Presumo di passare da uno stile all’altro perchè la mia immaginazione si è abituata sia all’uno che all’altro. Tornando a ciò che ho detto prima anche mia madre mi influenza qui, perchè essendo un’esponente dell’alta moda non apprezza il mio stile “grunge” portandomi a mescolarlo al suo.

3. Quali sono le tue marche preferite? Cosa ti piace di esse?

Seriamente, non mi interessa. Potrei sedermi qui e scriverti un intero libro sui miei designer, marche e le caratteristiche specifiche che apprezzo di loro e cosa invece no, ma sarebbe veramente noioso e banale! Se guardi nel mio armadio ho di tutto, da chicche trovate in negozi di seconda mano a Chanel. Dai classici pezzi vintage di Donna Karan, a Famous Stars and Straps a Marc Jacobs. Anche se a volte quando ho speso tutti i miei soldi, tendo a trovare la soluzione in Zara, sono quasi pronta a piangere in quei momenti, perchè sta diventando un clichè ora, perchè chiunque acquisti lì diventa subito un clone.
C’è un designer che amo al momento, ed è Thomas Wylde, che produce i più GENIALI vestiti con teschi in assoluto!

4. Generalmente leggi giornali e blog di moda o preferisci farti le tue idee basandoti sullo streetstyle?

Nessuna delle due cose. Preferisco le mie idee.
Quando compro una rivista di moda mi ci vogliono di solito 4-5 minuti per sfogliarla tutta, per poi ritagliarla e usarla per la mia arte. Non sono il genere di persona che “segue la moda”.. forse solo al 39%. Indosso sempre quello che mi va. Se va di moda l’oro.. bene, lo indosso perchè mi piace. Magari lo faccio sembrare trendy quando in realtà non lo è. E non guardo mai cosa indossano gli altri per strada.. per me è come rubare un’idea.

5. Com’è il tuo rapporto con il trucco? Lo usi o preferisci un look naturale?

Di solito non mi trucco per la scuola perchè sono troppo pigra, ma quando si tratta di uscire.. sono una persona completamente diversa. Ombretti colorati e eyeliner particolari delineano i miei occhi, e cambio il look dei miei occhi come cambio i vestiti.
Ma un burrocacao e il mascara sono praticamente santi per me, e li ho sempre addosso.

6. Cosa non può assolutamente mancare nel tuo armadio?

Vestiti.. vestiti e accessori.
Odio i jeans, li odio veramente.

7. Quale sarà il tuo must per questo inverno ‘09?

In cappello di volpe russo.

Ou ainda um Le Male da Jean Paul Gaultier autêntico pela pechincha de R$111,50?! Eu fico sexualmente excitado quando vejo todas aquelas opções e tão baratas!!! Me esbaldo. Mas como nem tudo é perfeito, o site não divide.
