I predict the two of them will be famous, but that Miss Trinidad and Tobago is flat-out beautiful. She will have an extensive career in front of the cameras, so do not be mad at her.

 I just would not be in it. Unfortunetly this does send out the wrong message to all the little girls out there that want to become celebrities. It seems as though that a ‘leaked’ sex tape is going to be mandatory for  young lady to rise to fame and popularity in today’s culture.

The viral nature of just such an exhibition has worked wonders for many of todays starlets and that might be a double-edged sword. 

I expect a lot of self righteous declarations of piousness to be espoused in reaction to this sexual exploitation in our culture, and I discourage any of my relatives to go down this path,so I do not have to be exposed to it.

 But, the reality of it is, is that it is not illegal if the parties are of age and consenting adults, it’s just inadvisable.

 I recommend a bit of discretion, but I do understand the pressure that we in Hollywood put on the female stars to stay relevant, and to be noticed.

A local minister, Miles Mcpherson of The Rock church in San Diego, http://therocksandiego.org/, has been a high profile and visible cheerleader for this disturbed young woman, and he needs to cut his losses immediatley. The reality of Prejean and their relationship is a cautionary tale of bad intentions against humanity coming back to bite you.

She has absolutely no credibility as a Christian, and she clearly just wants to get paid.McPherson has foolishly sided with a devil, because his personal hatred for gay people, overshadows his duty to his parishoners to do a simple background check,and vet this person that he has put in front of the world as a representative of good traditional  God-like Christian values and morality.

I say he has a good excuse,because back in the day, he was a cocaine addict, and that drug has been proven to destroy brain cells, and they do not regenerate. Hopefully he has left all that behind him, but this is confusing.

His thousands of followers and fans of his brand of christianity, that professes hatred of people that do not share his religous edicts, and has solidly backed this train wreck of a beauty queen, should demand a fair and public accounting of any of his church financial assests that have been squandered on this lying sex star.

TMZ.com is reporting today, that the ex-boyfriend of Carrie Prejean, who she allegedly gifted him with her masterbation text download,has come out to tell the world that he was asked by her to lie about her actual age that she was, when she made the XXX video.

Some failed Christians have attempted to halt the distribution of the sex scene by constructing a lie about Carrie’s age at the time, which they say was 17, to make it a crime to view it, because she was underage when she produced it.

Some even have alluded to me that if I did get an opportunity to see it, then I could be brought up on charges that are reprehensible.

Shame on them, beause that was another lie that Carrie got over on you.Their motivation is not to advance Christian morality via Carrie, but it is to save face, and to cover-up their hipocrasy.She was a legal adult when the tape was produced.

On the Larry King show, she got all upset when Larry asked her why she settled her case for no money against the Pageant organization.

She answered Larry by telling him it was an innapropriate question, and then she took her mike off, and began scolding Larry.

She must have known that she is not worthy of being on any show, unless we can talk about the sex tape.Notice she had no problem bashing gay people, but,….when it came to her sexual preference, she was having no part of it.

I applaud Larry for his in depth reporting, and his unwilligness to have her control what questions he asked her. He would immediatley loose credibility with his audience if he did not ask the newsworthy questions.

My question to Miles and all the rest of you fake false Christians…at what point do you repent for your sin of unleashing this nutjob on the world.

I know she is cute, but isn’t your credibility with the Christian crowd destroyed, because it certainly should be, if all things in life were fair and equal.

I hate to review any movie,traditional or porn, before I actually view it for myself. To that end, I can not wait to see for myself if it was worth it for her to drop her lawsuit against Donald Trumps Miss Universe pageant.

I am relegated to heresy, but what I have heard from other news outlets, and Carrie Prejean herself, on The View this morning,I will have to take their word for it.

First of all, it is probably unusual behavior for a Christian anti-sex advocate to have starred in a homemade gift solo sex tape that was leaked to the media.That is probably a hard obstacle for her to overcome.It does call in to question her credibility.

It is also going to cause her conservative backers to back away from her. She obviously was planning on withholding this porno movie, while she gains fame as a virginal gay bashing beauty queen, but as most doctors and lawyers would tell you, a lack and withholding of all of the facts can only lead to a disaster.

I know it is embarrassing, but to be revealed in such a public way, is insurmountable.

I feel for her, but her story should stand as a cautionary tell to those that seek to judge other people, get your own house in order, and don’t worry about the affairs of others.

It is what she gets for putting out negative energy into the world,and I view her fall in much the same way as I view the downfall of Jimmy Swaggert.

The chiefs have released Larry Johnson, and put him on waivers.

Larry Johnson is about to find that out, first hand. If he is to look for any encouragement, he must remember that even Michael Vick was given a second chance, by the National Football League for killing dogs, but the actor Isiah Thomas has not had that much good luck with his career after using a similar gay slur.

I do not even think it has anything to do with how many gay people are, or not involved with football as they are in the acting profession, I would imagine it is the national average, but what business wants to have this level of a public relations disaster associated with their product?

Larry Johnson is not trying to make amends with the gay community,it all seems to be about him getting out of his contract.

The Chiefs and Larry Johnson are in the middle of a case to determine whether or not the Chiefs have to pay Johnson this year’s installment of his signing bonus. The Chiefs are contending that Larry violated his contract when he was suspended for one game in 2008.

The Chiefs confirmed Monday that they are releasing Larry Johnson the day he was due to come back from his second suspension in a year.

Johnson, who turns 30 on Nov. 19, was just 75 yards away from breaking Priest Holmes’ team rushing record.

The Chiefs were furious with Johnson for a series of actions, including mocking Coach Todd Haley’s lack of football playing experience on his Twitter account; using a gay slur on Twitter and again in the locker room when addressing a group of reporters; and, in the incident that most angered General Manager Scott Pioli, belittling a fan on Twitter by saying he made more money.

They are seeking to have the contract voided.

 Whether they win or lose the case, the Chiefs have sealed the deal. They are over Johnson, and his on-line antics, and characterized  him as a ”Cancer” that is spreading in the locker room.

The Kansas City organization vowed to not allow Johnson to ever take the field again as a Chief, following a drubbing they received from the San Diego Chargers.

The teams rumored to be courting the homophobic running back is the hapless Washington Redskins, which have to replace the injured Clinton Portis, who sustained a concussion in this past Sundays loss.

Just what the Redskin’s need, another disaster of a player to cause even more distractions for them to lose focus on, away from football.

Get ready to protest my fellow D.C. football fans.Your season is about to get that much more worst.

Johnson is currently on waivers,which he must clear.

The New York Times is reporting…Johnson is almost certain to clear waivers, because a team that claims him would have to pay his salary of more than $2 million, which the Chiefs will pay if he is not picked up. But if he clears waivers and a team signs him, Johnson will still collect his salary from the Chiefs in addition to whatever he makes with his new team…

Johnson was the subject of an online petition last week calling on the Chiefs not to let him break the team rushing record. His on-line apology came one year after issuing a similar apology for alleged incidents involving women in Kansas City night clubs.

The door has shut for him in Kansas city, so I wonder which team out there has the room for Larry Johnson, who is Americas most notorious unapologetic homophobes.

I wonder how that title will work for his new teams marketing strategy.

Supporter of gay marriage may have taken a beating at the ballot box this week, but they can take solace in the fact that one of their major detractors has been exposed as a sexual freak, and has lost her battle in court.

Former Miss California and anti-Gay activist Carrie Prejean, who so famously declared to Perez Hilton during this years Miss Universe Pageant that she is a Christian, and she has these  Christian values that prevent her from supporting Gay marriage, which I like to call ”a marriage”, has been exposed to be a sexual freak herself,not that being gay has anything to do with sexual promiscuity. 

It was disclosed at this weeks settlement meeting between her and the Miss Universe/Miss California operators that she performed in a hot and sexy solo XXX rated porno movie.

The porno starring Carrie Prejean, as reported by the trusted site, TMZ.com, was very graphic, and ….well, even too graphic for TMZ to post.

That’s good enough for me,…I actually would like to see it for myself, as a reporter, just to confirm the accuracy of their reporting.

They are quoted to say that…”Carrie has a promising career as a solo performer”… so that sounds like some hot masturbation scenes, which I would expect a good conservative girl, with nice new double D implants to be well rehearsed in performing.

This does bring up the confusion as to why she hates gay people so much? Does she not understand that her campaigning against their right to marry, which has nothing to do with her, if she is not gay, just makes a lot of good people feel like second class citizens.

I think Carrie Prejean is in for a big wake up call about life. I have no problem with her solo masturbation, especially if she likes it, and no one gets hurt, as well as I have no problem with adults deciding to get married.

So. I know some of my gay friends are upset today by this week’s loss at the ballot box, but be encouraged here, and not for Carries downfall. That was inevitable,like so many preachers that campaign against you.

They are all probably gay, and are conflicted.Time will resolve this issue for you, not the ballot box. I feel that if we were to vote on returning black people to slavery, it would pass if left up to a popular vote.

Call me scenical, but I am definitely not that optimistic about the people that vote on these issues.I want to be proven wrong.

In my life I have witnessed the swinging of the pendulum more times than I care to admit.  We gain some rights in our quest for Gay Equality and then we suffer setbacks.  I can remember President Clinton planning one of his first Executive Orders to call for allowing Gays to serve openly in the US Military.  Now 17 years later, in order to serve our country with “honor” we must continue to live a lie about who we are as human beings.

 Still in 2009, after David Mixner called on all of us to rally at the U.S. Capitol, our prospects look brighter for Gay Equality than I call recall in my lifetime.  Meanwhile in the parallel universe of “Mainstream America,” life goes on in ways that diminish Gays as less than full citizens.

 Which brings me to one uneducated, unenlightened, anti-Gayite by the name of Buju Banton, a Jamaican who makes a nice living playing to sold out concert halls across America.  It’s not news to most of you reading these words that he has entitled his concert tour as the “Kill The Gays” Tour.  A rabid Homophobe he proudly proclaims to his audiences that “there is no end to the war between me and the faggots.”  His hate inspired lyrics include the passive suggestions of pouring acid on Gays, to “burn them up bad, like an old wheel tire.”  He goes on to sing about how “faggots get up and run” when Buju comes, that “they have to die,”  and describes how to shoot Gays dead in the head with a submachine gun.

 Initially, many venues cancelled his performance and TicketMaster pulled out of its agreement with the “Kill The Gays” Tour.  Since then, many other, independent venues have come forward so that Buju’s followers could assemble to listen to his live, hated-inspired music.  And I am not surprised the ticket sales have been brisk.  Concerts have been cancelled but many others have sold out, including in San Francisco’s Bay Area.  “It is insulting and offensive that here in San Francisco, one of the Gayest cities in the world, we have to tolerate having this hate shoved down our throats under the guise of the First Amendment, right here in our own city” said one protester outside the concert.  “Hate speech like this and like Gangsta Rap,  ought to be illegal.  How does it contribute to a healthy peaceful society?” an unidentified protestor added.

 Tonight, The Buju Banton Hate Fest moves on to the Sunshine State with performances scheduled for Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville.

 Keep in mind as we celebrate our “victories” that should produce results in Washington, DC “any day now,” victims of Gay Bashings are still beaten and in hospitals and mobs gather to celebrate our oppression. 

 Yes, the pendulum.  It continues to swing. And each time it does, I am less jubilant in the good times, for I understand what is just around the corner.

 The Takeaway:  Even in the USA, we are only free to the extent that our oppressors allow us to be.

 And in The Gay State:  We are free and equal and do not rely on non-Gay Heterosexual masters to tell us when we can have some freedom and how much we will be tolerated.  Hard earned freedom is ours and we have proclaimed it!

A number of people have said ‘enough said’, and ‘it’s an old story’, ‘move on’, and “Caroline  didn’t really mean it”  as well as “don’t trust the media”, “don’t try to change the media” with regard to media attacks on Kenyan gays in my last 3 blog posts.

I know that Caroline can’t really think it’s ok for radio to be gay bashing but what I don’t understand is her defense of fellow gay bashing presenters, and her failure to step in and show some leadership. She is after all the most popular and loved of all Kenyan presenters.

How temptingly delicious – wouldn’t it be great if we could just pretend that it didn’t happen and maybe the furore and bad feelings will magically go away.

Great for who I wonder? The media, Kenyans or Kenyan gays?

I’ve been seriously thinking about brushing this gay bashing issue under the carpet, after all its eating into me and affecting my sleep patterns….Hmm….I’m juggling ideas here…

hmmmm….I’m having a light bulb moment. Isn’t that what we said should not happen in Kenya after the post election violence? Maybe we don’t need a truth commission after all.  Yes, let’s just forget the post election violence (and ignore the little problem of victims and the remaining IDP’s after all they are minorities right?).

Friends I wonder if it’s our collective failure to speak out, to discuss, to analyse, and to understand issues that makes our community unable to comprehend how something as ‘small and insignificant” as gay bashing on radio. Is it a reflection of our collective psyche  that we are unable to admit when we make mistakes, to apologise and seek forgiveness? Perhaps that’s why the aggression and violence keeps escalating.

I don’t know about you but if the response from Caroline Mutoko at Kiss FM and Marcus at Classic FM is anything to go by, then we are in for a disastrous time during elections come 2012. If we accept gay bashing then what about tribe bashing, religion bashing…yes lets hit out at whatever and whomever we have an issue with.

Brushing the ethical issue of allowing gay bashing on radio under the carpet is a crisis behavior – just peek underneath and you’ll find that the hatred is breeding and it will eventually pop out again, this time with teeth.

I think that we need to deal with these issues that affect Kenyan Society up front and I still maintain that radio is the best and most powerful medium to bring about this change in Kenyan society. But first the radio personalities have a big responsibility and to be credible, they must have moral authority.

Moral authority it seems is in short supply right now on our radio waves. But that need not be a long term problem. It can be fixed with a simple apology.

We need a thoughtful examination of what we expect of the Media – perhaps then they will understand and change…just maybe.

Buju Banton is still scheduled to perform in three Florida cities this week. Thursday, Oct. 29th, in Jacksonville, Friday. Saturday, Oct. 31st, in Miami; and a new date was added for Friday, Oct. 30th, in St. Petersburg.

While other cities in Florida and across the country have canceled Bantons concerts, the venues in Jacksonville, St. Petersburg, and Miami have not yet responded. Join Equality Florida by calling upon the venue owners and elected officials to take a stand against hate.

“Boom Bye Bye” has become an international gay bashing anthem. In 2004, Brian Williamson, Jamaica’s leading gay activist, was violently chopped to death with a machete in his apartment in Kingston. A reporter walked to his street shortly after the murder and found a crowd of people gathered outside Williamson’s apartment singing and celebrating his murder and shouting the chorus of “Boom Bye Bye”.

The staff at Equality Florida has received an unprecedented flood of hate mail and threats in response to our public opposition to Banton’s hateful lyrics. One Equality Florida staff member received a letter stating: “YOU ARE STARTING A WAR IN WHICH YOU WILL BE KILLED” And another says “YOU’LL BE 6 FEET UNDER PERMANENTLY.”

So far, due to an outpouring of opposition from Equality Florida members and community allies, management at the venues in Tampa and Orlando have canceled Banton’s performances; the Tallahassee event in now listed as withdrawn on the Eventful.com website; and Toyota has dropped it’s sponsorship of the Miami event. Jacksonville management has not responded.

“Boom Bye Bye” has become an international gay bashing anthem. In 2004, Brian Williamson, Jamaica’s leading gay activist, was violently chopped to death with a machete in his apartment in Kingston. A reporter walked to his street shortly after the murder and found a crowd of people gathered outside Williamson’s apartment singing and celebrating his murder and shouting the chorus of “Boom Bye Bye”.

The staff at Equality Florida has received an unprecedented flood of hate mail and threats in response to our public opposition to Banton’s hateful lyrics. One Equality Florida staff member received a letter stating: “YOU ARE STARTING A WAR IN WHICH YOU WILL BE KILLED” And another says “YOU’LL BE 6 FEET UNDER PERMANENTLY.”

WE MUST STAND UP TO THESE HATEFUL ATTACKS

So far, due to an outpouring of opposition from Equality Florida members and community allies, management at the venues in Tampa and Orlando have canceled Banton’s performances; the Tallahassee event in now listed as withdrawn on the Eventful.com website; and Toyota has dropped it’s sponsorship of the Miami event. Jacksonville management has not responded.

The above quote is from the movie “Saved!” which I had the pleasure of rewatching this past weekend. It pretty much sums up part of my conversation with someone who told me that I would go to hell for being an enabler of “the homosexuals.” That my soul is in peril for not condemning “unnatural” behaviour and when I said that since the key word in Christianity is Christ to show me where Jesus is against gay people … well, read the quote above. The only thing missing for it to be life imitating art is if she had thrown a bible at me and attempted to perform an exorcism. Oh, and apparently I should be more careful about voicing my support for the LGBT community since folks might reckon I am “one of them.”

I wont even go into the issue of someone speculating on the state of my soul or my spiritual life when we could be at best be considered casual acquaintances. What I do find unsettling is people justifying their bigotry by hiding behind bible verses. This pick and chose nonsense is what irks me. If you are going to quote me the laws book of Leviticus and the least you can do is prove to me that you are pro killing people who do not observe the Sabbath, that when you own a shamba somewhere you will not plant two different crops on the plot and that all clothes you own are not made from two different types of thread. There’s more, though none spring to mind at the moment. Point is, some “Christians” have the uncanny ability to ignore what they consider to be the outdated parts of the bible (yeah, cos slavery though sanctioned isn’t thought to be cool anymore) until a debate like this comes up and then all of a sudden they are literalists and can start chanting those bible verses as a way of justifying their homophobia. You cant have it both ways.

The newspaper article that brought to light a whole lot of foolishness. I read the article and I knew the comment section would be full of gay bashing, irrationally paranoid, pontificating folks. I had planned to blog about it and then I actually read the comments. I was left speechless, I really was (anyone who knows me and my ability to be long winded and babble on about nothing for long periods of time knows this doesn’t happen very often). Though there are comments in support of the newly weds there are a lot more going on and on about how to “be ware of men who braid their hair and wear earrings” cos that is a path to gayism. Speculation as to what their sex lives must be like. Blaming the “west” and its propaganda for homosexuality. Hoping that the two men face the same fate as Sodom and Gomorrah (how very Christian of them). Pseudo science about how being gay might be genetic but it’s obviously a biological malfunction and thus LGBT folks should be classified as disabled. This is just a sampling, there is much much more at the link.

I’m not under any illusion that Kenya as a society (this includes those in the diaspora) isn’t generally homophobic – there is no doubt in my mind about that. That doesn’t mean that I will use that as an excuse and hide behind that veil under the impression that “its just the way things are and how they should remain.” The obsession with what individuals do with their lives just because they are of a different sexual orientation is one that needs to end – as long as it is between two consensual adults and its safe what exactly is the problem? “Slap gays” and “exerting masculinity and standing up to be counted”

Via twitter, I happened upon a podcast and following that a blog post that said that two radio presenters, Nick and Marcus from Classic FM, were generally, gay bashing and specifically advocating for slapping gay people.

… I don’t even know where to begin. Caroline Mutoko (Kiss FM) when contacted for info so that those who found the conversation tasteless and inciting violence could coney their dismay said that … well, I’ll just post her email, and that of one of the dj’s cos there is so much wrong with what they said its hard to paraphrase.

Time, at the expense of the gay people amongst us, they handled the issue pretty well.

Let’s also not be pretentious, this is Kenya and we are more homophobic that any other nation in the region.
Marcus and Nick are simply exerting their masculinity above all other men and standing to be counted.
The majority of their audience expect nothing less and yes the majority of their audience is the average Kenyan
who finds the whole gay marriage issue unpalatable.

Exerting masculinity? Is Caroline Mutoko aware that this is the excuse given to justify raping lesbians to “teach them a lesson” and to “cure” them? Is she aware that violence against the LGBT community is sometimes as a result of exertion of said “masculinity”? Does her co-signing Nick and Marcus’ topic of discussion mean that she is fine with this kind of behaviour and it is normal because Kenya and other nations are homophobic? And what in the hell does “standing up to be counted” mean anyway – its like she is implying that the presence of gay people in this world makes the two presenters feel less manly and their diatribe of hate is justified.

Marcus’ response isn’t any better. Reveling in the fact that outrage means people are listening and saying that it was merely an inquiry into whether being gay is something that can be cured by slapping does not exonerate him in the least. What pisses me off is how blasé  they were about the whole incident and dismiss gay Kenyans as less than human so its okay to have a little “fun” at their expense and ask if slapping someone will change their sexual orientation. This dehumanizing of human beings makes it that much easier to spread hatred. The people who make up the LGBT community are not aliens from outer space. They are our brothers, our sisters, our mothers and fathers, our friends, our relatives … not so easy to ask if being gay can be slapped out of someone when it might be someone you care about, is it? It certainly isn’t my idea of a fun time – I generally don’t advocate violence towards my fellow human beings and if others are okay with the idea of having a loved one slapped silly then there is more wrong with them than finding homosexuality unsettling.

SILENCE IS CONSENT

Statistically speaking, most people already know a gay person even though they may not be out. By virtue of the large extended families most Kenyans belong to (your mother’s cousin’s niece’s stepchild is still your relative) chances are you are related to one. Is it any wonder that some lead double lives when they hear people discuss them like they are some sort of anomaly and less than human? When violence against them is only discussed when people casually discuss if its okay to use it to “change their ways”? That their worth as human beings is so little that they can be in the same breath, vilified for simply living their lives and dismissed as being worth nothing?

The danger of a single story is one that we must actively push back against. Write/call to the presenters and let them know that hatred against fellow Kenyans will not be tolerated. Speak up when folks around you speak of LGBT people like they are sub human or beneath them. And for goodness’ sake, don’t go around calling things you don’t like “gay’ or saying “no homo” all the time – its not edgy, its ignorant and not to mention stupid.

Homosexuality is not unnatural. What is unnatural is sexual violence against children and women. Unnatural is politicians who fuck up our country and then pretend that its for our own good. Unnatural is people going hungry and dying in a country that is as blessed as Kenya. Unnatural is hatred toward our fellow human beings who think, feel, cry, laugh, love and live just like we do. If you are lucky and have someone in your life who loves you just as you are go and give them a hug.- if there is anything this world can use more of, its love.

“A gay man who was assaulted by two girls close to Trafalgar Square has died in hospital. BBC reports that 62 year old Ian Baynham was punched and kicked to the ground on September 25, his death caused by head injuries. His life support was switched off on Tuesday.

A 30 year old man who was with him also suffered minor injuries.

Police said that Bayman and his friend were verbally abused by a woman when they got off a bus late one night in Central London. When Bayman went to reason with her he was attacked by her and her two friends, a man and another woman.

The two blonde teenage girls screamed homophobic insults while kicking him as he lay helpless. CCTV footage shows them laughing after the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Alexis Boon said, “This was a vicious homophobic attack on two men who had done nothing more than come into central London to enjoy a night out and were verbally abused and assaulted within minutes of getting off the bus.”

It’s views like those of Jan Moir which make attacks like this more likely.

Yesterday was the very emotional funeral of gay Boyzone member Stephen Gately in Dublin. Many celebrities came to pay their respect or left messages of condolences. This was a truly loved individual. His former band member, with Ronan Keating, carried his coffin and held a vigil the night before. Last week a bitch from the Daily Mail used the rumors surrounding his death to slam the gay lifestyle, something that had ultimately nothing to do with his death. And even if it had been drugs, how many straight pop stars haven’t died of excess?? The thing that must be excruciatingly hard for his husband though, is knowing he had sex with another man while Gately died.

Yesterday was a march and rally in support of gay bashing victim Jack Price. Around 300 people came to Queens to show their support and protest against gay bashing. Surprisingly enough there were also some counter-protesters screaming for the release of the gay basher( unbelievable). Among the group of thugs was also the Leviticus tattoo guy I reported about earlier. According to locals this is the same group that caused the neighborhood to go downhill in the last few years. 

Some people in the gay community should be a little less quick with calling straight allies homophobic and screaming for their apology. This weekend “Girls Gone Wild” founder Joe Francis called a doorman a fag after being denied at a club. Of course this is stupid and juvenile but this is the same man who walked in the National Equality March last week so clearly no homophobe. And from Britain comes an even better example of ridiculousness. Gay icon Dannii Minogue and sister of THE gay icon Kylie told a singer who himself admitted he was bi-sexual that he could have left the lyrics to “And I’m telling you” to that of someone singing to a man. Why in the hell is that bad?? Apparently many people think she should not have brought up his sexuality but to say she is homophobic is just stupid.

Wal-mart.  A mega store that is beyond huge.  A store that, it seems, most people in this country live a short distance from.  It has put mom and pop stores out of business.  It has all but driven major competitors to scale back, such as Kmart.  It has driven major chains out of business, such as Caldor, Jamesway, Ames and countless others.

In recent years, it has tried to embrace the gay community.  It has tried to become something to everyone.  ”We want your money, no matter what your demographic is” it pleads.

Two days ago, a close friend of mine informed me that he uses Wal-Mart’s pharmacy.  He is HIV positive.  He was a little short on cash this month and didn’t have the money to pay for his copay to get his prescriptions.  He contacted his HIV counselor and she got him approved for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) via the Ryan White foundation.  It guarantees his copay.

He went up to the Pharmacist at Wal-Mart and showed him his card.  The Pharmacist said that they do not honor that program.  Understandably, he was upset about this.  He transferred his medications to a local pharmacy here in Delaware called Happy Harry’s, which is a division of Walgreen’s.  They were shocked that Wal-Mart wouldn’t honor that.  They even apologized for Wal-Mart.  They took the card and said that everything was covered.

In the ensuing days, we called other local pharmacies regarding the ADAP program.  All, but our local Wal-Mart, accepts it.  Is Wal-Mart discriminatory? Do they accept other programs that aren’t HIV related?  Such as Alzheimer’s?  Cancer?  Etc.?

If so, I believe that is discriminatory.  There are many people living in this country who are HIV positive, who cannot afford the medication they need to survive.  There are programs out there that assist these people.  And these people can be straight or gay, black or white.

Why is it small, local pharmacies accept this program and a huge, major retailer will not?  Is Wal-Mart anti-gay?  Anti-HIV?  Cold and uncaring?  Mind you, his copay was $9.00.  For all three medications.  The retail price of these medications are over $2000 per month.  Over $9.00, they have lost his pharmacy business for life.  He also said that he refuses to ever shop there again.  Ever.  For anything.

And you know what, I agree.  I will not step foot into another Wal-Mart again.  Just on principal.  I, personally, believe what they did was wrong.

This video shows a brutal beating of a gay man. No real words can describe what I feel when I watch things (hear about things) like this.  Though, in trying to sum it all up in two words: disgustingly inhumane.

This morning, Dave Roberts, from “Ex-Gay Watch”, posted this video on his blog.  He adds this commentary to it:

How many times will we now read from anti-gays how, oh, of course this is not tolerable, this is awful, but…

If you work against the rights of gays and lesbians to live the same life that anyone else is afforded, then YOU are the only thing wrong with being gay.  Hate has been overcome before, it will be again.

Dave is exactly right.  This is yet another thing that the Church has kept silent about for far too long.  Despite our differing views, we must all agree on this: hate crimes are wrong – no matter who they target!  It should not matter if the person is straight or gay, the Church MUST start standing up for the protection of those who suffer hate crimes day after day.

It’s Biblical to do so.

This is not a political issue, this is a moral issue. The National Equality March in Washington as a huge success. With over 250.000 people(lots of young people)  attending and with guest speakers as Lady Gaga, Cynthia Nixon(Miranda in Sex and the City) and Cleve Jones( activist in the 70’s and friend of Harvey Milk) who all delivered great speeches, I hope Washington and Obama will listen!

Yesterday Arnold Schwarzenegger signed two pro-gay bills into law. The first is by making May 22nd Harvey Milk day to honor the killed gay activist. Something he refused to do last year. The other gives LGBT people a less symbolic gain by recognizing same-sex marriages performed in other states. The wingnut right goes angry of course, calling Harvey Milk a predator and liar. Well, I have to say after a very weak start as Governor of California, Schwarzenegger does better and better.

A 49-year old gay man was brutally beaten outside a Queens’ deli friday early morning. Two men yelled anti-gay slurs and attacked him. The man is in a coma and has two collapsed lungs, liver damage, a fractured jaw, rib fractures and a lacerated spleen. One victim 21- year old Daniel Rodriguez has been arrested. The police is still on the look-out for the other suspect. Just horrible

Two thugs who attacked what they thought were a pair of transvestites picked on the wrong men – when their intended victims turned out to be cage fighters on a night out in fancy dress.

Dean Gardener, 19, and Jason Fender, 22, singled out the two men walking along a street in wigs, short skirts and high heels.

Bare-chested Gardener was caught on CCTV confronting one of the men in a pink wig, black skirt and boob tube – then seen swinging a punch, a court heard.

Taunts: Dean Gardener, 19, and Jason Fender, 22, are punched to the ground after attacking two cross-dressing cage fighters

But the other cage fighter, wearing a sparkling black dress and matching long wig, sprang to his friend’s help, delivering two lightning-quick punches to the two stunned yobs.

The cage fighters were then seen teetering away in their high heels, stopping only to pick up a clutch bag they dropped during the melee.

Gardener and Fender were left dazed and seen staggering to their feet after their failed attack.

CCTV cameras followed the pair as they weaved along The Kingsway in Swansea, South Wales, before being arrested by police.

Mark Davies, defending, said: ‘You know it cannot have been a good night when you get into a fight with two cross-dressing men.

‘Unfortunately they were extremely drunk.

‘They had been out drinking jugs of cocktails and Fender had drunk at least 10 pints of cider.’

Police later discovered the two drag queens were cage fighters on a fancy dress stag night out with other friends.

Both Gardener and Fender, from Bonymaen, Swansea, pleaded guilty to using abusive words and behaviour.

CCTV footage of the attacks was shown at Swansea Magistrates’ Court. It shows them fighting with several men before the approach the two cage fighters.

The pair were sentenced to a four-month community order, were electronically tagged and placed under a curfew between 7pm to 7am.
