Some people are into sports, others are into painting, … everyone has their thing. The internet, social media, the web, sharing, collaboration, and of course all technology just makes me happier than a bug in a rug. Woo hoo for this website! Geeks (See: MC Hammer) are taking over the world anyway, so watch out.

Also, I discovered Friend Feed yesterday, and it’s pretty cool. Imagine having all of your services in one place. I’m talking about Vimeo, YouTube, Flickr, WordPress, Digg, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pandora, Amazon, Yahoo, and pretty much any other cool Web 2.0 service you can think of. All RSS, all imported easily and consolidated in one place. It’s great. I can imagine it being really useful for someone’s website, sort of like a Facebook news feed, mashing up all different types of media and content into one central place.

This is an intereting question though. What about privacy? Like I said, for a website it’s a great idea, but do you really want all of your information that permeates  the web centrally located for anyone to read. Some people don’t mind lifecasting, but I do. Maybe I just haven’t tapped the web for all of its resources, connecting with people across the globe (although I can certainly say the web’s connectiveness has contributed to relationships in my life significantly). Just try this though: search the web for your name. What comes up? I am all over… easy to find. A lot of flickr, a lot of younoodle, and a lot of track.

I don’t know. I like using the internet, but I don’t want just anyone to look up anything and everything about me at any moment. I don’t publish or do things that would ever get me in trouble with future employers, but I still feel that there are certain things that should remain private. So, as far as my internet existence goes, I am out there A LOT, but I keep all of my personal updates (save this blog) on “lockdown” if you will. Try searching for me on Facebook. You won’t find me. How about my twitter account? You might find a few old posts that have been cached by Google, but that’s about it. FriendFeed? Also, friends-only.

Whatever it is about the internet and its connectedness, I really like it. I just like feeling as if I have a little bit if control over this monsterous network of global users. You’ve just got to be smart about it all, I suppose.

Anyway, I’m a geek, and I’m proud!

Ça fait deux heures que je clique sur les archives d’Urlesque.
Je me régale des vidéos et images postées dessus dont la plupart sont virales, voire contitueront la sous-culture du net en devenant des “memes” (prononcez mimz) – une mine d’or que ce site drôle et documenté.

Je suis estomaquée par la “globalisation” de la créativité dont les personnes font preuve depuis 10 ans. X ou Y, où qu’il soit, à n’importe quel âge et avec des moyens plus ou moins importants, peut décider de diffuser sa création sur Internet et éventuellement se voir propulser “star du web”.

Il est clair qu’Internet a grandement désinhibé les gens (ceux qui tiennent un blog me comprendront un peu). Youtube et les blogs ont largement contribué à cela. Parfois on y trouve des perles, d’autres fois, on reste sans voix devant le “vide” et le manque de contenu (qui, pourtant, créent le buzz).

Je viens de créer un compte Flickr Pro avec mon identité web.

Restons humble, ce n’est pas du très grand art. Cet espace sera un judas sur les expérimentations avec mon reflex. (Tiens, en parlant de judas, mes yeux lorgnent franchement sur le Fisheye 2 Chrome – ou alors le Diane – vendu chez Colette et son eshop).

Tenez, par exemple, il y a 24h, j’étais chez moi et j’ai pensé à ces photos ayant fait l’objet d’une Lense Party. Je ne retrouve plus la photo que j’avais en tête.

Bref, je me suis dit que ça ne doit pas être si difficile que ça à faire. J’ai pris une petite lampe torche. J’ai réglé mon reflex sur un temps de pause de 10″ avec retardateur pour pouvoir me positionner un peu en retrait afin d’avoir la place d’écrire mon mot en gros. Après plusieurs essais ratés, je suis passée en mode manuel et ai réglé sur + f/16 histoire qu’on ne voit pas pas l’arrière-plan et fixé 200 ISO.

Pour mettre de la couleur, j’ai simplement cherché à poser sur la lampe torche, une surface translucide de couleur (ici une enveloppe bleue transparente et un taille-crayon avec réceptacle rose – on fait avec ce qu’on a hein?)

L’idéal est de tout faire en une seule ligne. Comme la maison dessinée en un trait (c’est un truc de primaire ça).

Pour le smiley, j’ai éteint la lampe après le dessin du presque-cercle et rallumé 3 fois: 1 rapide allumage-éteignage pour chaque œil et une 3e pour le sourire.

J’ai ajouté un widget du flux RSS de mon Flickr juste à côté.

I succumbed to the temptation of those around me. I bought an Xbox 360 Elite. Some would consider it an impulse buy. There was some buyer’s remorse. But when I plugged it in and turned it on and saw the welcome splash screen, that all went away. I navigated around the menus of my newfound toy.

I went to the system tab. It’s the first tab to check out when you’re a nerd. First option, set system time. Set the month, set the day, set the year, set the hour. Set the minute and the Xbox froze. Turn off the Xbox, turn it back on. Three flashing red lights.

It would take 3-4 weeks. This is what is annoying to me. With most other defective things that you buy, you can return them to the store to get a new one. Not with video game consoles (at least with most stores). And they won’t just send me a new one. The console is treated as any other console under warranty. They first attempt to repair it before giving you a new one.

In the meantime, my buyer’s remorse is back, and I have nothing to soothe my open wound. I’ve spent $xxx just so I could wait a month to use the product. Something needs to change with their policies so that a person doesn’t have to buy a console and wait a month to use it.

And what recompense do I get for my inconvenience? A month’s subscription to Xbox LIVE. Approximate retail value? $5. They have a funny way of measuring my inconvenience. .

You tell a really good joke to someone over your favorite chat application, and you want to know how funny you were.

Of course, there are other variations that you may run into. This is simply a high level overview.

A few words of wisdom and explanations:

• 1. flol = fake lol. This is used when you would type lol, but in reality you are not laughing.

• 2. loq = laughing out quiet. This is used when you find something funny and you’re smiling. You probably would chuckle if they were in the room with you, or if you weren’t at work where people can hear you.

• 4. rlol = real lol. This can be replaced by simply lol if you don’t use flol. lol should be used only when you are literally laughing and it is audible. A chuckle is ok, but you may want to consider a lower form in this case.

• 5. LOL. You are laughing. If you’re not laughing, don’t type LOL. If you’re not smiling, you disgust me. This should be the highest form of laughter abbreviation you should need. If for some reason it’s not enough, consider adding exclamation marks, or even better, give details about your laughing. “Oh man, now everyone around me is asking me what is so funny because I was LOL” or “You almost made milk come out through my nose. I’m not even drinking milk!”

• 6. rofl/lmao/roflmao should never be used. For one, it’s not true. Where’s your integrity? If for some reason it was true, you should use it in the past tense, and give some explanation that it was really true. “I was rofl, and I hit my elbow on the wall.”

OK, cela fait plusieurs mois que photobucket et moi, nous nous entendons bien. Il m’aide un peu dans mon aventure bloguesque.

Qu’est-ce que photobucket? A quoi ça sert? Comment s’en sert-on?

Je ne sais plus du tout comment je suis tombée dessus mais cet outil m’est grandement utile. Au départ donc, ce site permet de stocker des photos, des vidéos et de la musique online. Comme d’habitude pour ce type de sites, il faut s’abonner (site en anglais). Photobucket est l’un des sites américains les plus populaires pour ce genre d’opérations (stocker puis partager). Jusque-là, on ne voit pas bien la différence avec Flickr (sauf pour la musique) ou bien avec le stockage sur un blog WordPress.com.

Et bien, il y a jusque quelques petits plus qui me satisfont.

• Quand j’importe un lien via WordPress.com en copiant l’adresse, WordPress va chercher à la source l’image, ok? Mais si l’image disparaît pour X raisons (fermeture du site, suppression de l’image par l’auteur, etc), l’image dont j’ai copiée l’adresse va générer une erreur dans mon billet. Et cela, je ne le verrais pas forcément parce qu’on ne revient que rarement vers ses anciens posts. Vous avouerez que c’est légèrement gênant. En revanche, photobucket me permet de stocker dans mon compte l’image qui aura été téléchargée en copiant l’adresse url originale dans la case prévue, et je n’aurai aucun problème à l’avenir. Je copie juste l’adresse de l’emplacement dans photobucket sur mon blog WordPress.com ou autre.
• Grâce à photobucket, je peux créer des diapos d’images (des slideshows en anglais) préalablement enregistrées sur mon compte et mettre le lien sur mon blog. Cela fait une sympathique animation pour illustrer mon billet comme ici. Et d’autres exemples sont proposés.
• Je gagne 1Gb et c’est toujours cela de gagné, sachant que les blogs WordPress.com accordent gratuitement 3Gb (par la suite, il faut payer une somme à l’année), ce qui énorme tout de même comparé aux 50 Mb proposés en 2007. Pour les autres plateformes non indépendantes, je n’en ai aucune idée.

Comment faire?

On s’inscrit. On télécharge dessus les images et vidéos via:

1. Un ordinateur
2. Une adresse URL qu’on a copiée
3. Un téléphone ayant un accès au web
4. Un email

C’est relativement facile à utiliser à partir du moment où vous maîtrisez un tout petit peu l’anglais.

Ça commence, généralement, avec un ordinateur ou une console. Un dénominateur commun: le high-tech. Nom de code: GEEK.

Le geek a souvent des références BD mais pas n’importe quelle BD. Ce sera l’univers américain des comic books et / ou surtout celui, japonais des mangas et dérivés animés, dont les références ultimes sont Robotech / Macross (là, je doute de mon affirmation, je me base sur une observation de mon cousin) et les cultissimes Akira et Dragon Ball. D’ailleurs, il a regretté la disparition du Club Dorothée qu’il regardait en mangeant sans pitié ses croissants. Tout ça à cause de parents conservateurs qui craignaient que leur enfant ne devienne un délinquant. Le geek n’est peut-être pas un ange mais ce n’est pas un Ken le Survivant.

Côté grand écran, la science-fiction est un genre particulièrement apprécié du geek (Star Trek pour les plus âgés, Alien, Blade Runner, Matrix et – ai-je besoin de le rappeler? – la trilogie vintage de Star Wars). Ben oui, nous sommes dans un futur très robotisé, informatisé, space-invaderisé. Puis il n’écartera jamais l’éventualité de voir un bon blockbuster américain bourré de testostérone et d’effets spéciaux. Et puisque le comic book fait partie de ses références, il avantagera les films de super-héros tels Batman, Spiderman, X-Men… Du côté nippon, il vénère les animés du Studio Ghibli et a peut-être même versé une larme sur le splendide Tombeau des lucioles.

Mais revenons-en aux origines. Le domaine informatique et celui du jeu.

Ces hobbies font de lui un véritable noctambule. Ses parents pourront vous le confirmer.

S’il est né dans les années 70, début 80, il a éventuellement joué à Pong (Big up à Wall.e et ses 8000 points!), peut-être possédé un Atari, a été enraciné sur le canapé avec la première version de Super Mario Bros (sans parler de Sonic), a tenu entre les mains des jeux électroniques ou une manette d’arcade avant de crier de joie quand Papa Noël a déposé la Game Boy et Tétris il y a presque 20 ans (Chirac: “Putain! 20 ans!”). Il sait ce qu’est un beat’em up et un shoot’em up. Il en a bavé face à Mr Bison, évité les tirs dans R-Type, marqué des centaines de buts, en a sauvé des princesses, a même voyagé sur Monkey Island et Myst. Le PC, qui possédait une touche “turbo” à l’époque, et la NES étaient ses instruments de prédilection. Certains se sont transformés en hardcore gamers ou pire en nolife.

Puis vint Sony. Puis revint Steve Jobs.

Même si Mr PC a longtemps tenu la barre, les geeks sont partagés dorénavant entre les deux systèmes (Linux est HS dans mon billet) parce qu’il restera toujours des fanatiques du PC. Pouêt pouêt (“Dis camion”). Sega et Atari ont reçu le carton rouge tandis que Microsoft s’est dédoublé. L’internet a fait son entrée par la grande porte.

Vous remarquerez que le geek est un matérialiste (aucune volonté de critiquer ici même si je me rends compte que ce terme a une connotation négative). C’est pourquoi il va parfois lorgner du côté des téléphones portables, de la hi-fi, de l’automobile et / ou surtout de la photographie. Je ne dis pas que le photographe est un geek hein? Non. Mais le geek se prend souvent de passion pour la photographie. Il aime les trucs techniques.

Mais alors qu’est-ce qu’un nerd, me direz-vous? Certains geeks ne se l’avoueront jamais mais ils en sont. Le terme est péjoratif et beaucoup moins porteur de cool attitude. Visualisez le mec à lunettes qui s’intéresse aux sciences et est quelque peu asocial et rejeté par les autres, dans les teen movies. Ben voilà. C’est un peu caricatural. Les studios hollywoodiens adorent les clichés. Par contre, sachez qu’un nerd saura faire un peu de programmation alors que c’est une option chez le geek.

Quant à moi, je ne me considère pas du tout comme geek, il me manque une certaine “technicité”. Mais il est clair que je me suis imprégnée de références de la culture geek. Si vous n’avez pas compris grand-chose de ce que j’ai écrit, peut-être que le cousin / oncle / neveu / copain / frère qui fait l’éternel SAP pour votre ordi vous expliquera mieux que moi ce qu’est un geek.

Et je ne peux que fortement vous conseiller de louer ou acheter “Le tombeau des lucioles” d’Iseo Takahata, un film de toute beauté. Wow j’apprends par la même occasion qu’un nouveau Ghibli est sorti au Japon.

Si j’écris “il”, c’est parce que c’est majoritairement un “il”. Même si beaucoup de “elle” se croient geeks après avoir acheté le dernier Blackberry ou iPhone; ça s’appelle céder à la mode. Geek un jour, geek toujours.

Dans ma pseudo-psycho-analyse de bannière, j’ai résolu le problème du visuel du nom “Milkie Road” en lisant les commentaires d’un billet du blog Kitsune Noir. Je ne recherchais certainement pas une police d’écriture originale mais l’idée m’est apparue évidente en prenant connaissance de l’information et de l’existence de ce site.

C’est vrai quoi! Finalement pourquoi ne pas faire différent si on en a la possibilité?

Le site Dafont.com propose un choix infini de polices disponibles… (infini = 8000 à ce jour)… selon le principe du site participatif, c’est-à-dire que chacun est libre de proposer au téléchargement sa création à titre gratuit tant qu’elle ne fait pas l’objet d’une utilisation commerciale.

Une fois qu’on a fait son (ou ses) choix, on télécharge le dossier compressé qu’on décompressera (logique). Enfin, on placera le fichier concerné à l’intérieur du dossier “Fonts” dans “Windows” (je n’ai pas de Mac alors je ne pourrais pas vous guider ici mais c’est indiqué en plein milieu de la homepage).

Dorénavant, vous pourrez sélectionner cette police dans MS Office ou bien Photoshop quand la sélection originelle pourtant assez large n’est pas satisfaisante.

Clair comme de l’eau de roche?

Vous avez deux solutions: soit vous êtes inscrit sur Deezer et il est toujours possible de partager une playlist (à vous de choisir le nombre de morceaux la composant), soit vous allez sur ce forum et vous recherchez le commentaire du 10 février de 9.50 am en changeant le code HTML. Puis revenez ici pour la marche à suivre sur Vodpod.

Allez, cette fois-ci, on prend un titre de post qui va droit au but.

Il y a quelques temps, j’ai posté un billet avec le lecteur Deezer. Et contrairement à ce que l’on pense, il n’est pas aisé de faire cette manip sur un blog wordpress.com, le code HTML que l’on copie sur le site Deezer pour intégrer le lecteur, s’effaçant à chaque tentative d’enregistrement du billet. Hyper rageant.

J’ai fait alors une recherche frénétique sur mon cher Google et au bout d’un bon nombre de mouvements de l’index, plouf, je trouve ce lien in english qui m’explique tout chez Geeky Coder.

Il explique que Vodpod sera notre salut. Il suffit de s’inscrire dessus. Vous en profiterez par la même occasion pour enregistrer votre blog; ce n’est pas obligatoire mais tellement plus simple pour être reconnu.

Ensuite, allez sur Deezer pour choisir le(s) morceau(x) que vous voulez insérer dans votre blog. Vous copiez le code (en personnalisant le player avec une lecture NON automatique parce que ce n’est pas forcément agréable pour le lecteur de votre blog d’entendre hurler dès son arrivée). Vous retournez sur Vodpod et collez le code à l’endroit demandé. Allez dans les options et choisissez d’en faire un brouillon (= draft) qui ne sera posté que postérieurement à partir de l’administration du blog.

Ce n’est pas fini. Parce que Vodpod s’imagine que vous allez envoyer une vidéo, la case réservée au lien est beaucoup trop longue sur votre billet. Il faut alors se rendre dans la partie HTML de l’écriture du billet pour définir la hauteur (=height) de cette case en ajoutant dans le code reçu, comme dans cet exemple (en gras):

display: block; height: 50px; width: 200px

(50 px est une hauteur suffisante pour un seul morceau sur le player Deezer; augmentez selon le nombre de chansons bloguées).

On peut aussi placer le player sur la gauche au lieu du centre en remplaçant “margin:0px auto” par “margin:left”. La personnalisation se fera ensuite en fonction de vos connaissances en HTML.

L’avantage de Vodpod: vous n’utilisez pas votre crédit d’espace disponible qui est limité comme sur n’importe quel blog. WordPress.com ou même Blogger. Résultat: vous ne ferez pas du stockage mais de l’import (grande différence).

Vodpod s’utilise également pour la publication de vidéos comme vous l’avez bien compris.

Toute nouvelle sur la blogosphère (en tant que rédactrice de billets en tout cas), j’ai pourtant très rapidement adopté un outil qui facilite l’écriture de billets.

Seule condition: utiliser le navigateur Mozilla Firefox.

“Fire up your blogging” qu’ils disent et que je traduirais par “Booster votre manière de bloguer”.

Scribefire est un plugin de Mozilla Firefox (je me répète, je sais) qui permet d’écrire des billets pour son ou ses blogs, de les enregistrer comme brouillons ou bien de les publier directement sur le blog, tout ceci sans quitter la page sur laquelle on navigue (et peut-être sur laquelle on blogue ). Plus besoin de s’enregistrer sur sa plateforme, de naviguer à l’intérieur de celle-ci. Scribefire est très complet.

Le plugin se greffe de deux façons:

1. on le télécharge sur le site officiel et on clique sur “Download”
2. sur la barre des menus de Firefox, on clique sur l’onglet “Outils” puis “Modules complémentaires”. On se rend sur le catalogue et on cherche “Scribefire”.

Une petite icône orange apparaîtra dans la barre d’état (donc en bas) et il suffira de cliquer dessus pour ouvrir l’application.

Evidemment, on autorisera l’accès au(x) blog(s). Scribefire s’adaptera à la langue de votre navigateur donc le reste est aisé à comprendre. On peut ajouter des photos Flickr, des vidéos YouTube, créer des catégories / tags / pages / billets, taper avec du HTML… Cet outil est tout bonnement incontournable.

Si vous choisissez de le faire apparaître dans un volet qui s’affichera sur le bas de votre Firefox, j’espère que vous n’avez pas un trop petit écran, c’est tout.

The founding father of our sunny (and damn bloody gloomy at times) island is Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Respected and feared by many, he has been credited as one of the key people responsible for transforming Singapore into what it is today. Mr Lee fiercely protects his reputation, evident in several defamation lawsuits filed against political opponents, of which this author shall refrain from further commenting.
 
 
 
Singapore Press Holdings (SPH)
As the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) found out to its detriment, suing SPH, the largest newspaper company in the country was a really stupid idea. Especially when what they reported was true.

Author’s Note: Well, that particular article was rather factual.

NKF got their ass handed back to them. Brutally battered. NKF’s CEO T.T. Durai withdrew the his suit on the mere second day of the trial, but the damage had been done. The malpractices committed by its staff had been revealed to the public through the court case (which was heavily covered by SPH’s newpapers). Dirty linen was aired, people went to jail, and to date, NKF still hasn’t fully recovered from the scandal.

Another mini scandal to arise from this drama was the furor incited by wife of Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and patron of the NKF, Tan Choo Leng whose comment (referring to Durai’s pay packet while he was CEO of NKF)

for a person who runs a big million-dollar charitable organisation, with a few hundred million in reserves, S$600,000 a year is peanuts.

was deemed unacceptable by the general public. The average Singaporean would only earn that amount of money (SGD$600k) in 20 years. The comment even inspirited a satirical piece written by an anonymous writer and was later published on talkingcock.com.

We’re all familiar with the old adage “1 arrow breaks easily, but a bunch of arrows is hard to break”. But Singaporeans were ever afraid to bunch together for a common cause because of (what some saw as) draconian laws in the city state. In the Singaporean context, this old saying was hardly ever realised. Until now.

Cue in the new millennium, the rise of computer literacy along with the explosive growth of the internet. The added veil of anonymity through the use of a pseudo names and identities in blogs and forums have imbued Singaporeans with a sense of security. Hence today there exist blogs and forums where Singaporeans feel safe enough to come out from under the rocks to comment on issues close to their heart. Through numbers, these collectives gained power. The “always there” nature of the internet ensured news, rumors, and gossip spread fast, whether it was good or bad. Its virtual nature meant the discussion need not take place physically, enabling large gatherings and discussions (albeit online) in sizes that were never previously possible. The government even acknowledged the power of these voices on the internet, calling it the “new media”.

In particular, a prominent local forum Hardwarezone (HWZ) (incidentally owned by SPH) can be considered the most influential forum in Singapore. They even have an informal Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) team ever ready to dig out more details of interesting cases. Some of the issues brought to attention in HWZ were:

Case #1: Tammy
She become famous overnight, and all for the wrong reasons. I suspect her clips first spread through HWZ like wildfire.

Case #2: Regan
In a more recent case, driver who was testing driving a madza mx-5 lost control of the car (while speeding) and crashed. The female saleperson who was in the passenger seat was fatally injured. The driver, Regan Lee Da Wen, was finally to be charged nearly 2 years after the incident.

The litigation process was arguably sped up though the attention various HWZ forum threads garnered. Regan Lee Da Wen who was under investigation at the time, started a thread on MyCarForum asking whether he should buy a Subaru STI-S or a Volkwagon Golf GTI. Someone managed to find out the identity of the poster, identifying him as the one who caused the death of the salesgirl. A furor arose which later spilled over into the HWZ forums, where the shit literally hit the fan. The Straits Times later carried the story on the front page of their “Home” section on April 4th.

To date however, the sentence he has received has not been made public. The general public do not even know if he has been convicted or not. Conspiracy theories were abound that the driver was from (or related to) a rich and influential family in Singapore, and that he probably would never have been hauled to court if he did not start that fateful thread.

#3: Odex
This case merits a blog post of its own, given the anger and resentment it has stirred up locally. Basically Odex, owner of a number of japanese anime licenses starts threatening to sue anime downloaders in Singapore seemingly without much legal ground.

Bad move, Odex. If Odex was in the red before all this hoo-ha, this PR disaster isn’t ever going to help them get back into the black anytime soon. They hit too close to the home of the netizens (anime) and way too hard (sending settlement demanding letters instead of warning letters), and the backlash could prove to be too much for ODEX to take.

GTA…One of the most violent games of all times….Sony…a multinational company, now having a really serious image problem due to the rootkit software scandal….PS3…the company’s future gaming console. What do these three entities have in common?
They have a lot in common, at least according to the Russian site GameMag.ru. It seems that the Japanese have been in some sort of secret talks with Rockstar, and…the outcome is that they’ve managed to secure for their future console, the above mentioned PS3, 8 full months of exclusive use of the future title from the “Grand Theft Auto” franchise.
Imagine what that means in terms of sales, especially since the “exclusivity” part of the deal doesn’t refer solely to other consoles, but also to the PC.Fans all around the globe will buy the PS3 in order to play the next GTA as soon as it is launched.
Well, if Sony wanted a publicity stunt for the launch of the PlayStation3, then this really is one of the best it could have come up with.

Console gaming is dangerous… Xbox’s bulky controller could knock someone out, N64’s triton could puncture your feet when dropped, and now we can affirm the next gen will consist of two new ways to hurt yourself.

a. Run your nunchaku kata with N-Rev’s controller and tap your balls.

Frankly, I love this controller, and hate it.

Why do I love it? -unique of course, but not necessarily stupid, because of it’s potential. However potential is just that, unconfirmed brilliance.
I also like it because it’s very similar to that fake revolution movie (NintendON video, remember?) It has certain elements about it that are heading in the direction of realism. Frankly, I would love playing GTA with this thing and just beating the crap outta people with my virtual base-ball bat.

Why I hate it? -opens up Nintendo to even MORE criticism. Nintendo has been bullied for a long time now, and this easy to make fun of design may make “kiddie games” sound like a better diss.
Also, the peripherals are attached to the main controller. X_X *Keels over* I know that I personally will be swinging that thing around like crazy, and I don’t want to keep my hands close together if I don’t have to. I’m thinking of how cool the Devil May Cry gunslinger would be, controlling 2 guns in seperate directions, but this controller doesn’t seem to offer that.
Another reason I’m not in love with this, is that with this controller, not only will you be moving more (something many gamers don’t like to do) but with the increased freedom of the controller, the tv now has very limited freedom. Any average person playing on a small tv may find it awkward, to be able to move great distances with the controller, but being confined to such a small FOV. At any rate, I think the “virtual reality interface” needs a “virtual reality output”.

Gaming enthusiasts have figured out how to run unauthorized programs and games on the U.S. version of Sony Corp.’s new handheld game console.

Like its rivals, Sony had tried to keep its new PlayStation Portable on a tight leash, installing controls so it couldn’t run programs and games not vetted and licensed by the company.

But the PSP, released in the United States in March, has been the target of fervent attempts to unlock its capabilities, which go beyond any previous handheld game machine.

Sony’s restrictions were defeated by a program disseminated on the Internet this week. It requires two memory cards, which are switched while the PSP is working.

The exploit may not be practical or safe (an accompanying warning says it could cause damage if done improperly), but it represents a challenge to Sony’s policy of tight control and opens the possibility that PSP games could be pirated.

Sony has previously taken a hard line against those who install unauthorized software on its products. In 2001, it went after a Web site that provided software for the Aibo robot dog, saying he was altering their product without a license.

Sony officials did not immediately return requests for comment Wednesday on the latest hack.

The hack works on PSPs with version 1.5 of the “firmware,” the equivalent of a computer’s operating system. Version 1.5 is the original firmware version for U.S. PSPs, but Sony in May released version 1.51 for users to download. The hack does not work on the updated firmware.

The earliest version the PSP, released late last year in Japan, was hacked several months ago.

“To jump start the speed of Firefox ability to load pages faster check out these settings edits…

1st type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return you’ll see a bunch of settings scroll down and look for the following entries…

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once which really speeds up page loading

Next alter the entries as follows…

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true” by right clicking on it and choosing “Toggle”.
Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”
Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0″. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

I have a list of former msn scriptors that may pose potential problems. I used to script with these people in the welcome_ca chats, some of them are very dangerous.
1) Metz aka c0ry; aka Metall|ca : Brilliant coder/programmer, can be a little tempermental at times. Former msn host, removed for banning fellow hosts from host corner.
2) Nut ( uses various special character nick names of Nut): Execellent code modifier, one of the biggest guest flooders and emote flooders in the msn chats, he was capable of flooding off entire rooms at a time leaving his script and the host bots, thats it.

3)FuSi0n : Another emote scroller/guest flooder/cloner. He flooded off the guide bots in the brasil chats after msn had gone subscription only.Loves to pick fights with guides, sysops and hosts.

4)?d???N?a? : Scroller/cloner/flooder tried to be a big pain, most of the time he just likes to shoot his mouth off about nonsense.

5) Agent: BIG Status flooder keep and eye on him.

6) Artist aka Artist for you aka artist of hate : Racists, loves starting trouble with other chatters, cannot be reasoned with.

7) Godfall: Scriptor, prodigy of Enigma. Very short temperd, loves to flood and clone and pick fights with admin staff.
