So as I’ve mentioned before, it can be hard for people to accept a geek girl as being what she is to begin with a lot of times. Apparently it is hard to accept a girl who likes computers, video games, RPGs, or comics, even though we are more common now than ever. The other stigma that goes along with this is that a girl who likes all of those things cannot possibly be attractive. Because in our country, to be a nerd or a geek is synonymous with being unpopular and unattractive.

So it is with an extremely happy heart that I have found a place that proves our culture wrong. GeekGirlsOnline is an erotica site whose models are solely geeky women. We are smart, geeky, and sexy. That’s right, I said we. I applied to be a model and have been accepted! My first set has been submitted, and should be up and on the site soon.

So, if you haven’t been to the site already, I highly suggest you go there now and check it out! It is filled with smart and sexy ladies, most of which participate on the forums there, so you can actually get to know the models. The site also has an e-zine that comes out once a month full of artwork, game reviews, interviews, as well as erotica stories and other tidbits.

You’re going to have to excuse the rather frightful poster if there ever was one. It is however entirely relevant to its morbidity, Pandorum definitely lives up to the hype of its horror, especially with a tagline such as ‘Don’t fear the end of the world. Fear what happens next.’ The German/American sci-fi horror was one of the better films I’ve had the pleasure of seeing within the last couple of months, and definitely worth a look at. But why?

Pandorum is one of those fist-clenching, mind-warping, jump inducing films where you are literally on the edge of your seat for a good minute at a time. Directed by newcomer Christian Alvart, whose only earlier works include ‘Curiosity & The Cat‘ and ‘Antibodies‘, but who will also be directing the upcoming ‘Case 39‘ featuring Renée Zellweger. Filming staff also includes Paul W. S. Anderson, director and writer of ‘Alien VS Predator‘, and Jeremy Bolt, both the producers of the ‘Resident Evil‘ trilogy. Stick AVP and Resident Evil in a blender and what do you get? Pandorum. Throw in a little sprinkle of ‘Sunshine‘, and you have the complete movie smoothie. However, was it a good idea to put all of their eggs in one basket? I’m afraid it wasn’t entirely. Many gamers are calling it a Dead Space wannabe.

The plot of Pandorum, a rather nice one at that for sci-fi fans, is set around the human race overpopulating the Earth. As a result, the first sleeper ship to head for Earth’s replacement, Tanis, holds 60,000 humans, except as the film opens up… You can’t see any of them. It is notably a unique blend of psychological thrills combined with action packed sequences filmed in classic, sci-fi grated-floor corridors. At times, Pandorum forces you question your OWN sanity, and explores some of the deep-rooted fears within its viewers. Specifically some of the more frightening fears which often take host, such as; a fear of the dark, loneliness, claustrophobia, lack of memory and it definitely plays upon those fears throughout the film. However whilst it was excellent in provoking thought, it was not exceptionally well constructed, despite the fact there was a plot (unlike most films these days!). This, alongside its lack of publicity, marketing and such may have been why it didn’t even make half of it’s $40 million budget.

A good film if you’re a sci-fi-aholic, or even if you enjoy video games, harnessing a strange familiarity to a first person shooter. However if you’re not that into chasing and racing in space, this isn’t the film for you. A possible DVD buy.

So the past couple of days I’ve had a bit of time on my hands.  Waiting to hear back from clients and rendering times have been hitting a bit hard.  Because it’s still a work day, I can’t just skip off and take pictures.  So I decided to set up a cafepress shop (called The Emporium Of Purchased Gratification) to play around in.  It’s one part joke one part learning the wonders of adobe illustrator.  I’ve created a couple of designs so far and it’s pretty fun!

A peine le temps de profiter des Be@rbricks SpongeBob de la série 18 qu’il faut déjà s’ambiancer pour acheter la série 19. Comme d’hab, beaucoup de déchets et de figurines inutiles, et un ou deux modèles vraiment cool.

Et pour cette série, c’est le Be@r Mr. Spock qui l’emporte, juste devant le Uglydoll orange et le robot marron. Même si j’en vois déjà me contredire à cause des oreilles rondes et non pointues du vulcain.

e questo riesce a far godere ben due lati di me, quello nerd e quello foto. Ma volete mettere? una SD che si connette ad un wi-fi point e ti permette di spedire direttamente le foto!!! e inoltre mette i geotag, manda i raw, gestisce gli invii selettivi, manda direttamente su flickr (e qualunque altra roba…). A che serve in realtà? beh probabilmente il vantaggio è minimo in termini reali, ma massaggia la mia golosità techno-foto (un po’ come il winiglio, nazbatag-tag, a suo tempo).

Se solo sapessi di poterlo far andare su linux, sarebbe già in viaggio verso casa…

There are many laws having nothing to do with government that are useful to know because they tell you something about how the universe works. Most of these laws have been known for a long time, but it is time to bring the laws that deserve to be known.

So here are  geeky laws (axioms) that should exist, but don’t … at least, they didn’t until now:

Munroe’s Law: A person in a geeky argument who can quote xkcd to support his position automatically wins the argument.

Tolkien and Rowling’s Law: No reasonably faithful movie adaptation of a book will ever be quite as good as the book it adapts. Thus great movie adaptations can only be made out of truly amazing books. Example, the Harry Potter Series and The Lord Of the Ring.

Savage and Hyneman’s Law: Blowing stuff up is fun. Blowing stuff up in the name of science is AWESOME. The Mythbuster’s guys.

And last but not least…

The Unified Geek Theory: At present, the creator of Microsoft and wealthiest person in the world and the creator of Apple  are  geeks. At the same time, movies based on comic book characters are routinely taking in hundreds of millions of dollars (Dark Knight and Iron Man, just to name a few). The only reasonable conclusion is: Geeks won!

A regular habit I have is to blog My Ten Favorite Tweets for each week. These are my own tweets, and they mostly contain links to interesting things during the past seven days. One thing I’ve always liked is that I can give “link credit” to the sites that I include in these weekly posts. This blog has a pretty respectable Google pagerank, so it can help other sites posting good content.

But alas, I have come to learn something. Twitter inserts the “nofollow” attribute in any links included in tweets. What is a “nofollow”? From Wikipedia:

An HTML attribute value used to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index.

When you paste a tweet from Twitter to your blog, the links include the “nofollow” attribute inserted by Twitter.  See below:

On FriendFeed, I asked some SEO-knowledgeable folks about this “nofollow” attribute I’ve been pasting in to my blog posts. AJ Kohn and Jimminy confirmed that because that “nofollow” is in there, the search engines aren’t giving link credit.

So the great content doesn’t get the credit in search engines it deserves. Now I need to go back and remove those pesky “nofollow” attributes.

Keep this mind if you paste tweets into your blog posts.

17 Nov 2009 A technology writer has assembled a group of fellow whizz kids to pose naked for a Nude London Tech charity calendar.

The Nude London Tech calendar features 24 tasteful portraits of London’s IT pioneers.

The photos show the men and women posing with strategically-placed laptops or wrapped in computer cables.

Organiser Milo Yiannopoulos said that he wanted to dispel the notion of internet entrepreneurs as being “unattractive geeks”, as well as raise money for charity.

Proceeds from the calendar go to Take Heart India, a charity that funds IT and business training for disabled people in India.

Mr Yiannopoulos said: “Someone suggested the idea as a joke, and I just thought why not. There is a perception that the people who run these internet startups are unattractive geeks, and I wanted to show that’s not the case. We are hoping to sell over 5,000, and are also working on an iPhone app.

”It’s about getting together entrepreneurs to raise money for an entrepreneurial charity.

“The charity doesn’t just dish out money in India – it educates and trains people to support their work skills.

“It was easy to persuade my friends to take part in the calendar as it’s raising money for such a good charity that promotes business skills.”

The team creating the calendar held a launch party at London club Sway on Monday night.

Hermione Way, 24, of news site techfluff.tv, posed for the calendar and said: “I have no regrets – the pictures are great. It was loads of fun for a good cause and I hope we raise lots of money.

“I really think that geeks are the rock stars of today, and hopefully this calender can help celebrate the geekiness of people. What could you want more for Christmas than a load of naked geeks on your wall?”
