In the previous 5 years, Sol has participated in many group and solo shows, both in the US and internationally.  This year she has been in two group shows and has an upcoming solo show at the Copro Nason Gallery in Santa Monica, California. Sol was born and spent her childhood in Korea; she now lives and works in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Gelaskins is a website that sells artistically designed sticker-like cases for iPods, phones, laptops and more. Gelaskins are a very unique way to customize your not-so-unique iPod or laptop and fit it more to your liking. There is a range of artistic styles to choose from, and there is bound to be one you enjoy.

It took about 3 weeks to get to me from Singapore, but it’s worth it.  I learned the hard way on my old MacBook and I wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice by not protecting my new gear.  The only vendor that had decent looking skins was Garskin.  I’m a really big fan of Gelaskins, but they didn’t have any simple styles – only artsy-fartsy stuff.  The Garskin looks and feels like authentic carbon fiber weave, but it’s just textured vinyl.  I think the outer shell looks pretty trick especially with the Apple logo cut out.  The inner protection looks alright, but not as stunning as the outer shell. The inner protection would have looked a lot better if it wrapped all the way around the keyboard.

Only time will tell me how these skins hold up.  But I’m confident they will last since they are made of 3M vinyl. Hmm… Should I skin my PS3? Eh, probably not since it will just cause more heat buildup.

So three months ago or something like that I bought a Blackberry Curve 8300, but it got lost in the mail and I got all my money back. And at the same time a bought a Gelaskin for the Curve, which I still got.

It’s so pretty

After that I bought the LG KS360, because I thought it was a sign that the Curve was lost in the mail, yeah stupid I know lol. But the LG DID NOT live up to my expectations, so now I use my old old Motorola Razr, and the LG is just laying on the shelf.
So I’m on the hunt for a new phone, still. And I really wants one with WiFi, so i went to phonearena to look at phones, and i looked for a Blackberry with WiFi, and I found out the Blackberry Curve 8320 got WiFi and the pretty Gelaskin will fit it too, so now I just have to save up a little bit of money and sell my LG!

So I have a question. Do any of you have a Blackberry Curve, or even the Blackberry Curve 8320? Are you happy with it? I can wait to order it and even receive it lol!

I really love Tokidoki. It’s become a little more mainstream than it used to be, but that doesn’t make the designs less appealing. I like the colors and the clutter in the designs. There’s always lots to look at and new details to be found. So I was pleasantly surprised to see these laptop and Iphone GelaSkins on the UrbanRetro website, as well as other cute items. Looks like I might be getting an Iphone in the future, if just to justify buying one of these lovely skins. Even my lovely minimalistic Macbook Air might get a makeover haha.

Photographer Lyle Owerko’s Boombox series for GelaSkins is the latest graphic tributes to the giant stereos that ruled the ’80s. His take on the trend has resulted in a range of reverent images printed on GelaSkin’s removable adhesives that feature scratch and UV-resistant coating to keep iPhones, laptops, and a wide variety of other devices intact while looking sharp.

While Owerko’s own nostalgia for the portable stereos stems from memories of heavy metal, punk and ska, his video with Fab Five Freddy for NPR Music explores the history of boomboxes to explain the stereo’s affect on all genres.

Lyle Owerko’s creativity and talent have amounted to one of the more innovative GelaSkins that I have ever seen. Honestly, the design to this is pretty dope and I would not mind having it for my iPod, seeing that mine is becoming quite scratched. What are your thoughts?

Conspicuous consumption; we all know that it’s just not cool anymore. So, now when you buy a fancy schmancy iPhone (because they are awesome, after all) you can buy a cover that takes it’s sexy appeal and brings it down a notch or ten. No sir, no need to buy a super pretty art cover when you can make your phone look like one of our former favorite phones and music devices that have been tossed around a little or a lot; like some old gadgetry you’ve taken apart and has a steampunky appeal; like a piece of the city’s sidewalk! I’m definitely a bit sweet on old-school Gameboy reminiscent cover pictured above by Michael Sison. I like how it has a hint of girlyness. Reminds me of my old gameboy on which I used to play my super rad Little Mermaid game.

We’ve got the zweiPhone stickers, which use photos of old, used mobile phones to “bring back a piece of classic design history on the back of blank and impersonal iPhones.” Their motto: downgrade today.

Paul Burgess’ Urban Dirty Collection. The grime and decay of cities can be beautiful. Dress your phone up with a grass/moss tinged sidewalk crack with“Greenary”, a “Grimey Grill”, or a rusty lock with “Got it on lock”.

The 80’s have long gone, but the era has been bopping around in fashion lately. Now you can have that boombox-to-your-ear look without the weight of the out of date real deal by using Lyle Owerko’s Boombox or Boombox II stickers. Oddly enough though, I’ve still seem a few fellows carrying around a smaller sort of boombox blasting music while lounging in Washington Square Park.

Steampunk-y renditions by Colin Thompson with his “Steampunk” ( the gears, perhaps of a steampuk phone revealed) and Underworld (the “interface”, perhaps, of said steampunk phone) stickers.

4. Gelaskins.

hey all you lovely people.

i want to report that last show was a success! lots of good people, good beer and good conversation was had. but let’s be honest here, we haven’t had time to take a break! as soon as we were done with first friday, we were getting geared up for next month’s show.

in april we will be showcasing the work of alberto cerriteno. alberto is a local artist who has oodles and oodles of experience creating digital illustrations and paintings. he does a lot of commercial work, has been recognized in some top notch publications and if you look hard enough, you can find his awesome little illustrations on things like gelaskins!

we’re pretty excited to see what new artwork he has lined up for us. we already carry a number of prints by alberto (which people love), and think that this will be a great show!

I just got so excited when I found out that Gelaskins has made Nintendo DS Lite skins to showcase some amazing art and protect your device from scratches.  Sometimes I forget about my DS, but now I’m thinking I may bring it with me for my long plane ride over to Asia next month.
