With the recent pardon from the British government to Alan Turing, the late computer genius and code-breaker, more historical characters have begun their own campaigns to receive official pardons. The first, by Anne Boleyn, wife of King Henry VIII, demands an apology for ‘Acts of gross indecency during marriage, abuse and eventual execution’. Lawyers for Ms Boleyn report that she is furious at the silence being maintained by the government. She has demanded a full royal apology. Since the demand for an apology from Ms Boleyn, several of the King’s other wives have joined Ms Boleyn in her demands, forming a group, supported by several city lawyers, named Queens 4 Apologies. The effects of the petition are not only being felt in Britain, and in Mongolia, a group has begun a petitions calling for a United Nations Apology for Chinggis Khan, who the group describe as “A great hero of the World”. One of the more controversial groups, The Devil’s Advocates, have called for an official Papal Bull to be issued, apologising for the negative treatment and portrayal of “Our Most Great and Satanical Master, Lord of the Pit and Vanquisher of the Messiah”. So far, no statement has emerged from the Holy See.

Everyone has heard of his name, but like me, do you have any idea who he is?!

A few days ago my daughter asked ‘is Genghis Kahn resting in peace mum?’ but she didn’t let on why she wanted to know, so I naturally stopped what I was doing and whisked my dowser from my pocket ….and the spirit of this man was dangling at the end, stuck in purgatory, worming his way out from a ‘mountainside grave’!

Several other Tibetan soldiers followed, then there was a pause as my spirit guides sought out those connected with him and also in need of rescue.

The portal of light through which they were sucked opened wider as many unsuspecting ghostly soldiers and warriors , many stuck in a moment of vicious battle and sudden death,  joined the throng – an unusual sight as I glimpsed several bare feet under robes moving up and away from me into the vacuum of love – bizarrely as though they had stripped to their underwear!  Were they buried in white robes I wondered?

A pause gave me a head count of between 12-1300 of these ghostly soldiers, as well as another x72  ’warriors’!

More and more were guided through until by the end of the day we were topping the million!!!

Of course, I had to find out more about Genghis Kahn himself and discovered he was in fact the Emporor of the Mongol Empire, the largest empire in history!

A day of so later I asked my spiritual guides whether Kahn had anything he wished to say, not expecting much.  His first comment was ’staid middle class’ – Was he referring to me?  I hope not! 

“My Empire!” he called back in stilting English.  He bowed with deep respect. “Stability needed.” came the short message.  “Going wrong.  Stubborn (he paused to think of the word) ass? (and showed me a ‘mule’)  It was easier for him to show me than to speak through a translator and what I saw was a long robed oriental gentleman dancing in bare feet and holding ‘light sticks’ aloft  (enlightenment) ….and believe it or not he was joined by THE GROUCHO BROTHERS!  (Who feature heavily in my new book and were obviously demonstrating that no matter what creed or crime, we are all brothers and sisters in light!)

I never did find out why his name suddenly popped into my daughter’s mind – perhaps it is a case of ‘like mother like daughter’?

My guides popped back after I’d typed this page onto my blog with ‘Samuri and Japanese warfare’ and off we went again…….

Los últimos días podrían haber resultado peligrosos para mi integridad física, pero por alguna extraña coincidencia no lo fueron. Fracasé en mis intentos por hacerme de un Whisky de fiado. La oriental, a la alguna vez que consideré atractiva, se reveló como una arpía despiadada del capitalismo y el expansionismo económico con el que, de a poco, los pueblos de oriente nos están conquistando. (¡Miren sino cuantos supermercados, ni Genghis Khan llegó tan lejos!).

Cuando el canastito que antes llevaba el Whisky y los productos “camouflage” quedó vacío comencé mi simulación, pero me llevo poco tiempo percibir que no estaba logrando el efecto buscado. La Oriental solo esperó, escuchaba mis explicaciones y respondía con un leve movimiento de hombros y una sonrisa entupida. Aquella torturadora lacónica podría haber esperado años, no le importaban las palabras. Me retiré sin saludar pero antes de salir grite: “!Marixxa Bali!”. Con la intención rencorosa de generar alguna duda idiomática y hacerle perder algunos minutos pensando en el significado de mi expresión.

Resignado a pasar algunas noches más sin whisky me dedique a buscar pleito. Crucé muchas calles con los semáforos en amarillo, esperando algún insulto disparador de duelos, compré golosinas de algunos centavos y pagué con cien pesos, miré sin reparos a cualquier mujer abrazada a un hombre que se cruzara por mi vista, estornudé con exageración en bancos, restaurantes y locales comerciales espoleando el terror a la influenza de moda y me senté en el cordón de la vereda a arrojar bollos de papel a la calle. A toda persona que dirigió su mirada hacia mi le ofrecí un “Que, Que”, apelando, como compadrito virgen, a la aparición de un cuchillo o de un guante en la cara.

Fue en vano, parece que cuando alguien pretende aprovechar el carácter ruin de la sociedad el mundo entero coincide en una tolerancia inexplicable. Todos los automovilistas se detuvieron e incluso algunos se disculparon, todos los quiosqueros tuvieron cambio, me pareció que todas las parejas de mi barrio tenían tendencias swinger o al menos simpatías por los triunviratos eróticos, no hubo persona que no dijera “salud” ante mis estornudos, incluso algunos se bajaban el barbijo para decirlo con claridad y, finalmente, creo que todos coincidieron en renunciar a la ecología urbana para mirar con compasión a un idiota que abollaba papeles y losa arrojaba a la calle.

En ocasiones el contrato social es una anestesia espantosa, pero cuando uno no busca pleitos encuentra a la ley de la selva a la vuelta de la esquina. Yo necesitaba un poco de violencia social, alguna reacción alejada de la indiferencia. La china maligna me había sumido en el vacío existencial, en el silencio, por ella me sentí borrado, inexistente. Sediento.

Pasaron los días y volví al mercado chino con efectivo y paz. No hubo productos camuflaje, no fueron necesarios, pagué mi whisky. Antes de salir, uno de los hijos de los discípulos modernos del Gran Khan rompió una botella por accidente. La madre lo reprendió en un idioma extraño, cuando se agachó a juntar los trozos de vidrio dejó escapar un murmullo colérico: ¡Marixxa Bali!

In 1986, Rodney Brooks introduced the idea of the Subsumption Architecture into the world of robotics changing its landscape forever since. His view on artificial intelligence went against the trend of the time, of centralizing symbolic processing, which was not delivering the kind of intelligent behavior that would be equivalent to even the simplest of living organisms.

The idea behind the Subsumption Architecture was to decentralize intelligence in a way that is very similar to what we know to be true about the nervous system. It decomposes the intelligence of the system into many simpler modules organized in layers. The lower layers take care of basic tasks like obstacle avoidance and the higher ones take care of more complex tasks like environment exploration. Lower layer modules work quicker, like reflexes, but higher layers have the posibility of inhibiting the lower layers.

The result of this new philosophy was the emergence of a new generation of robots much simpler in design that were able to achieve much more interesting real environment behavior. The first one, Genghis, was built in the mid 80s at MIT by Rodney Brooks and looked like a large insect. It can be seen in the first images of the above youtube clip.

What Brooks did was to divide robotics between two basic paradigms: the  deliberative paradigm and the reactive paradigm. The deliberative paradigm represents the classical approach in which the robot senses the world, plans the next action and then acts. The subsumption architecture is representative for the second paradigm, also known as the sense/react paradigm. A third and more recent trend is to try to get the best out of the two philosophies, resulting into a hybrid paradigm.

In 2002, Rodney Brooks was present on BBC’s HARDtalk speaking about his views on the future of robotics. You can download the show here. One year later, he gave a very interesting talk at TED called How robots will invade our lives, which you can see here.

La banda sonora de esta película corre a cargo de Tuomas Kantelinen. Un compositor Finlandés, nacido en 1969 y que también a participado en la banda sonora de Mama Mía o “Year of the wolf”, entre otras.

More Bases Advantage
To have a better chance of winning, you might want to build more than one base. Enlarge the base you start out with, making it completely fortified with at least two castles. Then, send a scout cavalry, or some other fast moving unit, to the opposite side of the map from your base. After you have checked the area and confirmed that it is safe, send a villager to build a castle at that location and fortify that base. This is very helpful if your enemy knows where one of your bases are located, especially during online play.

Fast Resources
Use the following trick to rapidly enter the cheat codes and get resources quickly. For wood, press [Enter], type lumberjack, highlight the word, then press [Ctrl] + C to copy it. Press [Enter] to activate the cheat. Press [Enter] again, then press [Ctrl] + V to paste the word on the screen for activation. Repeat to get resources quickly. This may be used with the rock on, robin hood, cheese stack jimmy’s, and to smithereens codes.

Free Ally
When you build a market, there is a chance that a rival tribe will ask you to send them a certain amount of wood, stone, gold, and food. When they do, click on “Diplomacy” or press [Alt] + D and click “Ally” on the name of that tribe. They will become an ally free of charge. However, when you do this you will no longer be able to align yourself with any other tribes. This is helpful if there are four tribes in the game.

fictional story of mid-teen years of main character Ivy Breedlove, (best friend Octavia Harrison (who is into sociology), pet dog Genghis, & Jack Lowden (wilderness-guide-to-be & who winds up being her current “interest”/boyfriend))
Ivy is into the family stories of the Breedloves (ancestory, etc.) & history in general
with the support of her Aunt Tib, she spends the the duration of the book collecting information for a Breelove history book of sorts, (while her Aunt Fiona would rather do a quick & shallow version of the family history), Ivy being an only child, Egan, a cousin once-removed, is a fellow family member close to her age that pops into the story at regular intervals,  many of the Breedloves are/were lawyers (on her Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandfather, Millard Breedlove’s, gravestone, it is etched “O, wouldst that all my sons be lawyers / Lest my heart break with the anguish / That they have become lesser men“), as the book unravels though, Ivy relates to her estranged Aunt Josephine in being different then the lawyers in the family, & the plot develops as quest for her to find her Aunt Josephine (with the help of Wilderness Guide Mountain Mama) & then spend time/get to know Josephine (“Jo”), who lives up in the mountains, lives with & cares for many many many birds, & has a pet wolf, Malachi, as well as reintroduce “Jo” to the family of Breedloves (& vice versa)…

other characters: Dan Breedlove (Ivy Breedlove’s father) Uncle Archie, William Wasington “Iron Will” Breedlove (Ivy Breedlove’s grandfather) (gravestone read: “Justice was his chief end.”) G. I agree with the themes that history is important, that researching ones roots definitely gives one a better sense of self, & that loners deserve respect & acceptance like anybody else… found it to be a semi-worthy read.
