มกะโปรเจคสำหรับออกแบบและสร้างเครือข่ายอินเทอร์เน็ตใหม่ (redesign-rebuild) รับเงินทุนจากรัฐบาลสหรัฐฯจำนวน 12 ล้านเหรียญ พร้อมรับบริจาคแบนด์วิธเครือข่ายความเร็ว 30 กิกะบิตต่อวินาทีเพื่ออำนวยความสะดวกระหว่างการศึกษาวิจัยโครงการ

นักวิจัยจำนวนมากเห็นด้วยกับโครงการออกแบบและสร้างเครือข่ายอินเทอร์เน็ตใหม่ โดยมองว่าการออกแบบสถาปัตยกรรมอินเทอร์เน็ตใหม่จะเป็นทางออกในการปลดขีดจำกัดในการขยายตัวและปัญหาความปลอดภัยซึ่งเครือข่ายอินเทอร์เน็ตกำลังเผชิญ อยู่ในปัจจุบัน ซึ่งเป็นผลจากการออกแบบเครือข่ายอินเทอร์เน็ตซึ่งถือกำเนิดครั้งแรกตั้งแต่ ปี 1969 หรือเมื่อ 39 ปีที่แล้ว

นับตั้งแต่ปี 1969 อินเทอร์เน็ตถูกพัฒนาต่อเนื่องจนกระทั่งปัจจุบันมีผู้ใช้หลายพันล้านคน และมีการส่งถ่ายข้อมูลด้วยความเร็วสูงแต่ก็มีปัญหาควบคู่กันไป ความกังวลว่าระบบอินเทอร์เน็ตอาจจะล่มสลาย เพราะเมื่อระบบอินเทอร์เน็ตยิ่งเติบโตมากขึ้น ปัญหาเหล่านี้ก็เติบโตตามไปด้วย กลุ่มนักเทคโนโลยีในสหรัฐฯจึงรวมตัวด้วยความหวังว่าจะแก้ไขปัญหานี้ โดยเสนอทุนวิจัยจากมูลนิธิวิทยาศาสตร์แห่งชาติของสหรัฐอเมริกา หรือ National Science Foundation (NSF)

นักเทคโนโลยีอเมริกันเสนอ 2 โครงการใหญ่คือ โครงการ GENI- Global Environment for Networking Innovations และโครงการ FIND-Future Internet Design ทั้งสองโครงการได้รับการตอบสนองจากเอ็นเอสเอฟ (NSF) บนแนวคิดระบบอินเทอร์เน็ตปราศจากรายชื่อ (Clean-slate-Internet) ซึ่งเชื่อว่าจะสร้างความหลากหลายด้านนวัตกรรมที่จะเกิดขึ้นในระบบอินเทอร์เน็ตใหม่ในอนาคต

รายงานข่าวทุนวิจัย 12 ล้านเหรียญกล่าวถึงเฉพาะโครงการ GENI ซึ่งรับผิดชอบโดยบริษัท BBN Technologies ในนามของรัฐบาลสหรัฐฯ ทำหน้าที่ตรวจสอบ วางแผน และออกแบบเครือข่ายใหม่ โดยนักวิจัยจะทดสอบแนวคิดใหม่โดยไม่กระทบต่อเครือข่ายอินเทอร์เน็ตปัจจุบัน

ทุนวิจัย 12 ล้านเหรียญจะถูกส่งผ่านมูลนิธิวิทยาศาสตร์แห่งชาติสหรัฐฯเพื่อนำไปศึกษาและสร้างโครงข่าย GENI ต้นแบบ

เพื่อทดสอบโครงข่าย GENI ต้นแบบ โครงข่ายอินเทอร์เน็ตเวอร์ชันใหม่จะต้องใช้แบนด์วิธซึ่งมีความเร็วในการส่ง ข้อมูล 10 กิกะบิตต่อวินาที การรับบริจาคแบนด์วิธทำให้นักวิจัยไม่ต้องกังวลว่า การทดสอบจะเกิดผลกระทบต่อทราฟฟิกอินเทอร์เน็ตปัจจุบัน โดยหน่วยงาน National LambdaRail ของสหรัฐฯพร้อมเปิดทางให้นักวิจัยใช้โครงข่ายความเร็ว 30 กิกะบิตต่อวินาทีบางช่วงเวลา

ความเร็ว 30 กิกะบิตต่อวินาทีถือว่าเร็วกว่ามาตรฐานอินเทอร์เน็ตความเร็วสูงตามบ้านถึง 3 เท่าตัว เทียบแล้วเท่ากับการดาวน์โหลดภาพยนตร์คุณภาพสูง 30 เรื่องผ่านเครือข่ายบ้านในครั้งเดียว

นอกจากเงินวิจัย 12 ล้านเหรียญ การสร้างเครือข่าย GENI ถูกประเมินว่าจะใช้เงินทุนก่อสร้าง 350 ล้านเหรียญในระยะเวลา 5 ปี ซึ่งสภาคองเกรสสหรัฐฯเปิดไฟเขียวอนุมัติให้ทุนในส่วนนี้แล้วเรียบร้อย

Noen ganger irriterer jeg meg grønn over denne datan…………jeg skjønner ingenting …….argggh! Jeg skulle ønske jeg hadde skikkelig data “hjerne”, og skjønte hvordan alt er bygd opp og hvordan ting skal gjøres, men det har jeg altså ikke. Jeg klarer sånne basic ting, og kan vel kanskje bittelitt mer enn mannen i gata, men jeg har så dårlig kunnskap om det jeg egentlig trenger…….nå sitter jeg å surrer med itunes, og prøver få musikken min over i et annet program. Men tydeligvis er alle sangene i et slags rart format på itunes, og jeg fatter IKKE åssen jeg skal få de til å bli mp3 filer. Jeg skal lage noe skolegreier på windows movie maker, og når jeg henter musikken fra itunes – så funker det ikke

I am now all set for my little history / ICT project. At lunchtimes for this week I will be working with a small, select group of Year 6’s to investigate the learning potential of several web tools.

We will start by researching the topic using the Internet alongside books from the library so that the children can compare sources and discuss reliability. Do they understand why wikipedia cannot necessarily be trusted?

Following that I have set up the following:

Wallwisher – I have created a Wall for the children to post profiles of the main characters involved in the plot. Would really welcome comments once they have started.

Google Maps – After my successful trial of this I will be asking the children to create a map and plot some of the places mentioned in the story of the Gunpowder Plot and then create a tour guide.

Geni – To help the children understand the political and religious background to the Plot I will ask some of them to create a family tree of the Royal Family starting with James I. They have just finished a Tudors learning journey so I will ask them to find the connection between James I and Henry VIII.

Dipity – I will also have children creating a timeline of the events using www.dipity.com.

Twitter – I have created a twitter account for Robert Catesby, the leader of the Plot for the children to update over the next few days. We will plan the tweets in advance and maybe use a service to schedule the tweets.

My plan is to have 1 or 2 children working on one site at a time and then rotating them so they experience and contribute to them all.

All will be available on our Learning Platform -> look for the folder titled Gunpowder Plot on the left.

I would welcome any comments about this little project. Hopefully it will be successful and I will be able to plan bigger projects that other schools can contribute to as well.

Tomorrow I am starting to work with a small group of Year 6 children on a history / ICT project.

I will be using some of the tools I have been experimenting with other the past few days. These include:

Ettersom jeg studerte stamtavla litt mer nøye, fant jeg ut at Micahs farfar heter så mye som “Hellraiser” – i motsetning til alle disse engleaktige og royale pene navnene. Da jeg søkte etter et bilde så jeg at han ser jo ut til å være litt av en råtass:

Even though I am not currently teaching history it is still a subject I have a perosnal interest in. So, when I came across the geneaology site www.geni.com I wondered if it could be used within the classroom.

Having previously taught Year 6 about the Tudors I decided to experiment and created Henry VIII’s family tree.

I found it a fantastic way of researching the Tudors and helped me understand how the monarchy passed from the Tudors to the Stuarts. I feel it would be a really good way of getting the children to research the characters and gain an understanding of the politics regarding the monarchy.

I will soon post a link to the family tree.

Google Internet Summit 2009 Future Session. The panel speakers for this session are Chip Elliot, Nick McKeown, and Paul Saffo.

On May 5 and 6, 2009, in Mountain View, we brought together Googlers and leaders from academia and the corporate world for a 2-day summit to discuss the state of the global Internet. The goal of the summit was to collect a wide range of knowledge to inform Google’s future plans–from product development and market reach to users’ expectations and our ability to keep the Internet open yet secure.

More than 30 speakers and moderators led discussions around 8 topics: Networks; Wireless and Sensor Technologies; Security; Standards; Applications; Democracy, Law, Policy and Regulation; Search and Cloud Computing; and The Future. Eric Schmidt, who offered some remarks, expressed optimism that the challenges we face with governments’ walling off access to the Internet can be overcome technologically by building networks that are transparent, scalable, and open.

Det er rimelig åpenbart at de fleste av oss ikke vet hvor stort dette er. De største kapasitene i verden er samlet – intellektuelt er dette enestående, og i verdenssammenheng utrolig at vi klarer å fostre slike sjakk-egenskaper i lille Norge. Tradisjonsmessig er Norge en lilleputt-nasjon i sjakksammenheng. I andre – kjempestore nasjoner, spiller tusenvis av mennesker. Gratulerer !

I have found this to be a free, easy to use, convenient, internet based family tree building software, with photo (& video) hosting, that has multiple levels of privacy (you control who sees what), & it is a great way to get & keep in touch with one’s extended family, it can also be linked with one’s facebook account, if desired, & if a person does pay a subscription fee, then one gets access to “pro account” privileges, & after having used geni for 8 months now with such satisfaction, I might just try that out sometime in the near future

Oi, primeira coluna, né? Quando rolou o convite de escrever aqui fiquei meio assim porque não sabia do que falar. O Pedro me disse que podia falar do que quisesse – mas é esse problema, quando a redação é tema livre tem tudo pra sair uma merda. E enfim, a primeira Balada Mixta nem aconteceu, não sabemos a carinha dela – a promessa é de coisas boas! – mas não tinha referencial nenhum além desses três:

- O Pedro Beck, mas não queria falar do Pedro Beck, já basta ele ser leonino;
- A Katylene, mas não queria falar da Katylene, já basta ela ser taurina e tatuada;
- e a Funhouse em si – qual será o signo da Funhouse?

Aí então o tema dessa primeira coluna é a Funhouse, e o tema das próximas colunas pode vir da própria Balada Mixta (coisas que vi, que ouvi, que pensei por lá) ou das atrações. Combinado?

Bom, a Funhouse é um lugar muito importante pra mim. Sei que a “publicidade” Balada Mixta procura afastar a imagem rocker da Funhouse pra assumir um lado mais pop, mas a verdade é que sempre me atraí pela Funhouse (que a gente chama carinhosamente de fãnhózi) por causa do lado rocker dela. Era o local onde eu ia ouvir Pixies de quinta-feira pra aparecer ressacado no dia seguinte no trabalho. Viu? Algumas coisas não mudam! É isso que a gente vai fazer no dia 11!

Bom, existiram pra mim três fases da Funhouse (deve ser diferente pra cada um, tô falando do meu caso específico). Na primeira a gente ia, dançava músicas de bandas que a gente desconhecia – Da Escócia? Da Islândia? – e cometia delitos do tipo levar um gravador de fita pra balada e fingir que era repórter de uma rádio. Eu e Ana Laura já entrevistamos algumas pessoas na Funhouse. Sério. Nem sei onde está essa fita. Na época, que me lembre, não existia nas imediações nem Exquisito, nem Leblon, nem Geni, nem nada.

Na segunda fase nós (Ana Laura, Bia Bonduki e eu) tínhamos uma banda, Os Princesa, e o show da Funhouse foi um dos melhores que a gente já fez. Nós abrimos pro Bonde das Impostora – foi isso? Eu estava muito bêbado, não lembro direito. Sei que quase entrei em coma alcoólico no palco antes do show começar e escondi uma cerveja de mim mesmo atrás do retorno, depois reencontrei a cerveja no meio do show, depois apareceu uma menina com o cabelo enoooorme e um casaco de pelos enooooorme que simulou sexo oral em mim, depois ela estava do meu lado no palco (?). Depois a gente descobriu que ela se chamava Miki e era americana – ela virou nossa amiga. Dizem que nós estávamos ótimos no show – não me lembro de quase nada, como vocês podem perceber. Até hoje tem gente que chega e pergunta: você não era de uma banda que fez show na Funhouse? Bom, melhor eles lembrarem de um dos melhores shows.

A terceira fase é a que eu dava umas escapadas pra Funhouse escondido de todo mundo com a Monayna (que não tem Twitter). A gente ia – na quinta-feira! – pra OUVIR PIXIES. Não íamos pra paquerar, nem pra conversar. Ficávamos dançando e bebendo caipirinha – e de algum jeito aquele chão xadrez aquecia os nossos coraçõezinhos saudosos de baladas que tocavam Pixies… e bandas desconhecidas da Escócia e da Islândia.

Bom, o mundo gira. Tem também a quarta fase, de agora, que a gente vai pra Funhouse e pode ouvir Lady Gaga – sacrilégio ou novos tempos?

Acho que a Funhouse é geminiana.
