Britain’s Got Talent stars; Diversity, Flawless and George Sampson star in the UK’s first ever Street Dance Movie.

The film, shot entirely in 3D,  is about a street dance crew who are forced to join forces with a group of classical dancers in order to win the UK Street Dance Championships.

I’ve just been looking at our YouTube Channel, and trying to work out which of our videos is the most popular (the things you have to do for a board report!).

For ages, the lead video was the massive Ricky Hatton promo we held in The Orient – and thanks to a little widget in YouTube, we were able to tell that most of the many thousands of people who watched that vid were from the Philipines, and were Manny fans, rather than local people logging on to see their Mancunian hero! Just goes to show, you never can tell.

But what’s this, as I peruse the figures for last month’s YouTube audience  – the biggest hit at the moment is clearly George Sampson’s Christmas Message. Now, for those out of towners who might not know, George Sampson was the winner of Britain’s Got Talent, when he was a local schoolboy from Warrington who danced for pennies on Market Street before finding fame. He turned on our Christmas lights last year. (I looked after him for part of the day and he’s a lovely lad, but he never sits still.)

Far be it from me to wonder why people want to watch a Christmas message in the middle of summer, but they certainly do – more than 7000 views, and peaking.

In case you are wondering, that’s his sister with him in the video, who danced with him on stage here at TTC, and was like a mini-George.

I know this hyper-active dancer has film projects in the pipeline, and we loved his debut single when he showcased it here at The Trafford Centre, so I can only imagine that with the loyal fanbase he clearly has, that anything this talented local lad touches will turn to gold.

Do you have an idea for a new business? Is it a little bit “outside of the box”? If you truly believe you have an idea/invention/business that brings value to the market, then put your head down and push the rock forward. Don’t listen to the cynics out there. Those are the same people who would never take the risk and they don’t have the confidence that you have.

Risk is a funny old thing. As people we love to get adrenaline pumping and very often become almost addicted to seeking that thrill of experiencing the heart stopping moment that goes with placing ourselves in harm’s way. Thrill seekers will chase the rush travelling worldwide to go on the next big roller coaster, or visit the next white water rush. I know this as I’ve felt it, know friends that suffer the same affliction, and have watched people chase their dreams in so many different ways when it comes to taking risks with our lives. But take a risk to start a business and it becomes a whole different thing. We are easily swayed by other peoples opinion, often talk ourselves out of a winning idea, hesitate and procrastinate for every reason we can find, and very often tuck our tail between our legs and run a mile in the opposite direction to avoid the commitment.

So what is it about the risk of starting out in business that worries us so? Firstly we are prone to listening to other people and taking heed of their opinion. We are receptive to doubt and afraid of failure. Yet in life we learn every day through failing and making mistakes. We get it wrong with friends, at work, in our homes. We are less than perfect in so many ways. Its these imperfections that we worry so much about in life. Small fears of failure and being unsuccessful that keep us from often reaching our maximum potential. We are very often put off by the potential problems, looking at reasons for failure more than reasons to succeed. We place more emphasis on risks than rewards. In so many ways when it comes to being all that we can be we are our own worst enemy.

If you enjoy something, are really good at it, find yourself getting lost in time while doing something, then it is only natural that you are going to be successful at doing it. Admittedly there are many things that you need to learn about running a business, but in this modern age there is so much support that exists for businesses to run, operate and leave the difficult things to people that know how to do them correctly on your behalf. Leave the things you are good at to yourself and work around people that can support and are willing to help you.

There is a very British program on television that inspires me every year when it comes on. Britain’s Got Talent is often described as a hallmark of British Talent and the home of people who are slightly nutty. Yes we get a lot of laughs out of some very strange people, and quite often cringe at the alarming things people call talent, but let’s just stop for one second and look at three people who I regard as inspirational people. The first and probably my favourite success story of BGT is that of George Sampson. When we first met George he was a shy little 13 year old who danced on the streets of Manchester and believed he had a shot at winning with his moves. I remember being devastated when I watched him get sent home that first year. But did he listen to what everyone said? George went away, worked hard, came back and won the heart of a nation, and very possibly the respect of a world.

George went on to win. Deservedly so. He had a belief in himself, was doing what he enjoyed in life, knew he was good, had a chance and NEVER gave up. I respect him for that, and admire his courage and skill. My next example would be Stavros Flattley. What a duo they turned out to be. I remember the day they first came on the stage wondering what disaster this would be, and how wrong I was. A father and son who loved each other enough to go out there and just have a great time, even though in reality they were crap shows us how incredibly infectious enjoyment can be. If people around you know that you enjoy what you’re doing they feed off your energy. Don’t do something because your forced to do it! Do it because you love it.

My last example is one that comes from close to home. Paul Potts, lives in the next town over from me in South Wales. I use the example of Paul as I am not a very big fan of Susan Boyle, but she is just as successful  now as a result of her belief in herself. Paul’s wife was the one who downloaded the entry form and gave it to Paul to enter. She was sick of hearing him serenade the mirror in the bathroom and knew he had talent. For once in his lifetime he listened to her, even though he still had to flip a coin to eventually make the decision to post the entry form. And today? As a result of his belief, and the fact that he listened to those around him who believed and supported him, he has become a household name. You talk to people in America about Craig David and they have to ask who he is, but mention Paul Potts and he is instantly recognised as that guy with an awesome voice who sang for the queen.

If you can dream it, you can do it. Everyone looked at Susan Boyle and jumped to the conclusion that she would not be successful. They were dead wrong. If people look at your idea and doubt you or doubt that you can be successful in a down economy, they’re wrong.  You are your success. Grab the opportunity by the horns, drive your success and take control of your life.

SCORES of Britain’s Got Talent fans waited for hours to welcome the stars of the show to Edinburgh.

The stars of the hit TV show performed at Edinburgh’s Playhouse Theatre last night to a sold-out audience.

Most fans were there to see Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle, but every one of the talent show’s performers was given a rousing reception from the waiting crowd.

Flawless, Julian Smith, DJ Talent and last year’s winner George Sampson all arrived on a luxury coach while star of the show Susan Boyle was whisked into the theatre by a side door.

Lisa Murray, 20, from Dumbarton, said: “I arrived here at 4 o’clock today and can’t wait for the show to start. I really want to see Susan Boyle because I think she is amazing. I’m also dying to see Stephen Mulherne, one of the show’s presenters.

“I saw Susan in Glasgow last night (Mon) and she was just amazing. She looked overwhelmed with the crowd’s reaction.”

Kate Wilson, 15, and Ashley Jackson, 14, both from Edinburgh, said: “We are both here to see Shaun Smith and Diversity mainly, but Susan is also one of our favourites.

“I think she is a totally amazing singer and she is doing Scotland proud.

“Normally you just see English people on the show, so it’s great she’s flying the flag for us.”

Jackie Morrison, 15, and Tara Raine, 15, both from Fife, said: “We’ve been here for four hours and can’t wait for the show to start. We’re both so excited that George samson is performing, but of this year’s talent we are desperate to see Susan Boyle.

“She’s such a great singer and I feel sorry for her a bit because she has been picked on quite a lot.”

Cara Brannigan, 14, Channelle Irvine, 15, and Mya Tillie, 14, all from Edinburgh, said: “We can’t wait to see Susan and Shaun Smith tonight, they are our favourites.

“Susan is a total legend and we really hope she turns up tonight. I feel sorry fer her because everyone laughed at her at first, but she’s the one having the last laugh now.”

Despite capturing the hearts of the world with surprising and breathtaking performances, in the Britain’s Got Talent finale, Susan Boyle took second.   The winner was a dance troup called “Diversity”. 

Boyle’s loss came as a shock to many, making her the second seemingly sure-fire victor to come up short in a talent competition.  Last week, Adam Lambert lost the American Idol crown to Kris Allen. 

Diversity won the 100,000 pound prize and the chance to perform for the Queen at the Royal Variety.  The previous winners of Britain’s Got Talent were George Sampson and Paul Potts.

I’m a little surprised about the result, although I did see Diversity, and they were quite entertaining themselves.  What do you think?

Sometimes you just have to love the rain.

April showers is right. This morning, the heavens opened and buckets of rain water bombed us all — teaching me that when it comes to water fights, Mother Nature always wins.

This weather makes it tough to be a considerate commuter, but I tried my best today.

Ducking into the bus shelter or onto the bus, you have to time the closing of your umbrella just right.

If you do it too soon, you get drenched. Too late, and you thwack someone in the face with your brolly.

To make things even more complicated, my subway station is undergoing renovations, so there’s a bit of a walk to the building after you get off the bus — partway under construction site walkways, the rest in open air.

To avoid poking anyone in the eye with my umbrella, I only opened it part way shielding basically only the top of my scalp from raindrops.

Then, on the train, I fastened the Velcro tab around the wet folds so they wouldn’t drip on anyone. (Not easy when the train is moving fast and you’re holding on for dear life with one hand and holding an umbrella in the other.)

Lesson learned? Forget the umbrella altogether and wear a waterproof raincoat with hood. And sing. In the rain….

I never bothered with Britain’s Got Talent before, (last year my family was into I’d Do Anything) I saw a clip of George Sampson on YouTube but that was all, and wasn’t that impressed.

I probably won’t bother watching any more of this series either now that I’m back at uni, but this kid Shaheen is a bit good.

Obviously Susan Boyle’s not bad either, but I think people were mainly just impressed because it was so unexpected from the look of her.

Must’ve been a horrible feeling to be stopped by Simon just a few lines into a song, but Who’s Loving You was much more impressive.

This is probably old news to most people - especially if you follow Demi Moore on Twitter – but I thought it was worth a post anyway.

If there’s anyone who’s got talent on Britain’s Got Talent, it’s Susan Boyle.

The unexpect twist in that whole audition episode can easily move anyone to tears; from a woman who has been prone to cynical critics and insult to an overnight singing sensation with a voice that’s on par with Elaine Paige (the singer who sang ‘Memory’ in Cats).

Reports have it that Simon Cowell has already started planning a singing contract for her, and many of her fans are urging her to release an album immediately. As I’ve mentioned on Facebook a fews hours back, I’m thoroughly blown by Susan’s performance and will definitely buy her album should she release one.

Nonetheless, I feel that Britain’s got talent really showcases some of the rarest and most unique types of talent; from Susan Boyle to 10-year-old Charlie Green (unfortunately he was ousted from the 2008 semi-finals due to wrong choice of song), and even, George Sampson, the winner of the 2008 show.

Truly a talented dancer, he could give Michael Jackson a run for the ‘Dancing King’ title.

I subscribe to an RSS feed of another expat from the UK who lives in NZ and this morning, she made a post on her blog that caught my eye.

You just have to visit You Tube and check out the video of Susan Boyle singing I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables, she has the most amazing voice. She stunned all the judges and was given a (very well deserved) standing ovation at the end of her audition. The judges gave her the most amazing comments I’ve heard. People were mocking her when she first got on the stage, but as soon as she hit the first note, they were clapping and cheering.

I watched her video and I thought she was amazing, she made me have goosebumps. And all this at an audition, with a rubbish backing accompaniment and no formal training, imagine what she’ll be like with a bit of polish, move over Elaine Page, the new first lady of musicals has arrived.

Oh and I really hope she wins Britain’s Got Talent. Good Luck Susan!

 It is a sad world we live in when a former News of the World editor and Botoxface Holden are actually judging people on talent. Simon Cowell, fair enough. I can look past the fact that he produced Teletubbies records - if only for bringing us Leona Lewis – but that smarmy Simon no.2 never ceases to infuriate me. I wish I could’ve been there when Jeremy Clarkson socked him one. And that collagen filler of a judge (let’s face it, she’s only there to bridge the female gap in the panel) – who the hell is she to judge anybody? Wild At Heart is nothing to be proud of, love. She was in the Royal Variety once, yes ? Before that the only reason people were interested in her was for having a very public affair – which her fellow judge cashed in on. Ha.

But do you wanna know what pisses me off the most about Britain’s Got Talent ? The fact that it sticks around. For AGES. Why can’t be more like the X Factor ? Sob story, Christmas number 1 and boom – they’ve disappeared, only to be seen on those 4Music countdowns or heard on Heat Radio. But BGT has more longevity than that, oh yes:

Step 1: Spend a year soaking up the success and cash in - anyone remember that utterly atrocious song that George Sampson released ? No, of course you don’t. The first line alone was horrific. ”I’ve got a fake ID  like a secret agent to get in and out of here when the rhyddim changes”. Shut the f*ck up and buy some Clearasil.
Step 2: Lie low. People are sick of you.
Step 3: Re-enter the reality TV stratosphere just before the programme you won last year returns. Drum up some publicity. Then before anyone can click their heels and yell “HASBEEN!”, Britain’s Got Talent is back and so are you, for another shot at fame and the Royal Variety performance!
Step 4: Fade into obscurity – OR – go on Celebrity Big Brother.

I caughht a glimpse of Camp Rock this morning on BBC1. Or 2. Shame on you, BBC2. Just watch the first few minutes of it. The film was, to put it mildly… god awful. The girl got out of bed looking immaculate, and that was enough to make me hate her. I mean, the character, not Demi Lovato (the “actress”). I’m sure Demi’s a lovely girl. I say girl like she’s a 4 year old, she’s only about a year younger than me ! Actually, I do hate Demi Lovato. It ain’t right to be younger than me, uglier than me, less talented than me and yet richer. Am I bitter ? F*ck yes. Apparently the little lassie has been networking on social networking site Twitter. She sniffed out John Mayer, reportedly starting the thrilling conversation by simply saying “hi”. He then proceeded to give her advice on being a musician (Really, mate ? You think you’re in a safe place to do that ?) I think this could be the start of something really brutal. Can you imagine their duet ? Between them they would make Simon Cowell’s dream of  killing  pop music a reality.

What the hell’s the deal with Twitter anyway ? I refuse to get it. I am above and beyond the likes of John Mayer. I am better than Ashton Kutcher. I spit on Ryan Seacrest.

Ha. Who am I kidding ? I’m bitter and twisted and jealous of Mayer’s mankini. The only reason I don’t have Twitter is because I don’t have a Twitterberry. I can Twitter from home but it’s just too sad. Sympathy and comments are welcome.
