Today was a fairly good day
Recorded the first scene in my film group’s new movie; about a guy who gets kidnapped after a drughustle and locked inside a cellar.
Today we did the abduction scene and it went smooth, tomorrow is the actual cellar scene, and I am the actor who plays the guy whos been kidnapped.

yeah, and along with my new ID card I went and took care of some bank business, like transferring my CSN money over to an account, applying for a Visa card and also withdrawing some cash that been lying around for a while untouched.

Christmas is for many people the highlight of the year.
Since my mom is Church of England, it is tradition in our home to celebrate a good old fashioned christmas, with a tree, decorations, dinner and gifts.
Also this is one of the few times my mom, dad, sister and I get together as a family to celebrate, which is very nice
But as we get older, the good old tradition becomes less and less what it used to be.
I remember, as small children, my sister and I would recieve tons of gifts, cards and money from friends and relatives.
Now that we are old it has become less and less…but I suppose thats what happens, because after all I think Christmas is especially important for the young children .
-Though on the other hand, gifts for everyone is half the fun!

(GREEK NEWS AGENDA) The prime ministers of Greece, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) and Albania, on November 27, sent a joint letter to the UN Secretary General, the European Union and the Danish prime minister regarding the environmental protection of the Prespes Lake region shared by all three countries.
After the tripartite informal meeting in a lake-side village on the Greek side, Greek premier George Papandreou told reporters that the three leaders agreed to sign an agreement – in early February 2010 – to enhance the environmental protection of the Prespes Lake region.
They also promised to promote bilateral and multilateral cooperation in water management and take measures to tackle pollution and soil erosion. 
Papandreou also discussed with his FYROM counterpart, Nikola Gruevski, investment projects, the possibility of abolishing visas for FYROM nationals, as well as the “name issue,” for which the Greek premier said that new impetus should be given to the ongoing talks for its resolution.
With his Albanian counterpart, Sali Berisha, the Greek premier discussed economic relations, and minority and immigration issues.

My lovely husband and I spent a week with my parents recently, primarily because when we arrived he pulled a muscle in his back, and couldn’t make the journey back. We took both dogs, safe in the knowledge that they are old and well-trained enough to make us proud.

On the first day, we went for a walk and George got so excited and worked up that he almost choked to death by leaping about on his lead.

On the second day, Nietzsche threw up all over me in bed, and all over the bedroom floor, having worked her way through a large raw hide bone.

On the third day, George climbed up on my parents’ bed while I was bathing his sister, and unceremoniously peed all over their coverlet.

At this point, I was so ashamed I dried it off with a hairdryer and crawled downstairs feeling terrible.

After a glass of wine, I confessed and the cover went in to the washing machine.

Subsequent days saw George take a dump under the table in the dining room, eat all the cat’s food, and run out on the road barking having realised he could squeeze under the front gate.

Since coming home, George has escaped and run around the village, leaving (seriously) the baker, cobbler, a taxi driver and the hairdresser all running after him. He has eaten the leg of the coffee table and a book shelf. Tonight he weed under the table.

While I always say I wouldn’t change him for the world, I have to admit that this is a blatant lie, designed to cover up for the fact that if someone walked up to our front door with a giraffe right now, I’d swap without hesitation. Paul and I both acknowledge that while we love him to bits, he makes it hard to like him. I went out today and bought him some ‘Nylabone’s with a view to getting him to stop eating the furniture. He ignored them and devoured the coffee table instead.

If anyone would like to swap a small, ginger incontinent puppy for something easy to look after, for example a teenage girl with an ASBO or something, feel free to get in touch.

Obama still has to fulfill his campaign promise of withdrawing of Iraq. I encourage him to keep unfulfilling that promise. The Iraq war has been the topic of debate the last nine years- the democrats hate it- the republicans don’t like it, but want to keep fighting. I have the republican’s back. Sure, some democrats may argue, Iraq costs too much money; the soldier’s lives are at risk; it contributes to post traumatic stress disorder, but the benefits of the war largely outweigh the consequences. Most Democrats are against the war and most of them never served in the military- coincidence? If you were getting surgery, who would you take advice from- a surgeon, or a plumber?

If we pull out of Iraq, there will be a minor market crash. The Dow will either hit 10,000 or go bellow. If we withdraw, we concede victory to Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. This “victory” will prove to be a tremendous boost to recruitment of terrorists. I think the nation as a whole would rather spend more money than lose more lives in events such as 9/11.

Some people still cannot get over the positives of withdrawing. If we withdraw, there will be fewer opportunities to acquire post traumatic stress disorder. We, as a country, would save billions of dollars and we would save the lives of countless soldiers.

For a pro-fighting advocate such as myself, these topics are hard to confront, but still need to be in order to continue success in Iraq. First of the government and our armed forces need to “officially” acknowledge that PTSD actually exists and that soldiers should get help for it. Time magazine wrote an article about the rising cost of the war- especially the gas. I admit, there is nothing I can think of to reduce this spending, but we must be as efficient as possible. And to those who argue that we put the soldier’s life at risk, I agree, but in order to help the whole country we must find a better way to protect our troops.

Why not start off with a competition like NASA just ran? Get a bunch of private companies and offer them prize money to develop safety methods. Of course there would need to be other security measures in place-those will need to be addressed.

As Cape Town is getting ready for the Final Draw on 4 December 2009 for the 2010 FIFA World Cup something’s have to be put in place. The area between Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) and the top of Long Street will be a controlled access and exclusive zone in terms of the City’s 2010 By-Law. This means that certain restrictions and rules will apply as from 20 November till 4 December. Visitors customers and businesses will have normal access, except during specific events during this period of time especially on the day of the draw. (4 December)

The final draw will take place at the CTICC while public viewing area will be at the top of Long Street. Normal trading will take place for  business but no advertising linked to the 2010 FIFA World Cup or the Final Draw will be allowed without permission from FIFA.

FIFA gets major portion of the money needed to stage such and event by selling sponsorship and broadcasting rights. This is the reason why City’s 2010 by – law will manage advertising, vending and public open spaces during this event.Terms such as “World Cup 2010″ “FIFA” “2010 South Africa”may not be used in advertising, promotions or merchandising without license.

It’s illegal for any non-rights holder to make, publish or display any kind of statement, communication or advertisement which implies there is an association with FIFA or the WORLD CUP.

Today, Nick, Pinot & I set off for Mays Landing, NJ to visit with my wonderful cousins, George, Peggy, Jim, Jerry, Lyn and Roman.  And the puppies, Sally and Princess Leia.  It was great to see everyone and have the entire day to visit – wonderful family, great conversation, and scrumptious food – which was not anything turkey related!  (On the contrary – an awesome cabbage meatloaf soup, mac and cheese, ham, german potato salad, coleslaw, broiled shrimp & bruschetta – YUM!)  We were very tempted to ditch the original plan and stay overnight, but then in remembering that tomorrow is the last day of the long weekend and we had to travel primarily on I95S, we decided to leave at around 11PM and just come home tonight.  It was a great day, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again soon!

George came down to spend Thanksgiving at the Lizard Lounge this year. As neither of us is a staid traditionalist, I decided to forego the turkey and rotisserie a chicken on the grill instead. As the rotisserie process always results in a succulent and pleasing piece of poultry, I thought it would make for good blogging to share the steps.

After procuring a whole chicken from your local market, be sure and remove the little packet of innards (or giblets) from inside the body cavity. I have no use for them and toss them in the garbage. (That’s purely a personal preference; do with them as you wish.) Rinse the chicken both inside and out, patting the outside dry.

Cut an onion and a lemon into wedges to stuff inside the body cavity. For this particular chicken, I also snipped a couple sprigs of rosemary from my plant outside and chopped up some garlic to add to the mix. As the chicken turns on the rotisserie, these aromatics heat up and permeate throughout the chicken, adding to the flavor. The extra bulk of this stuffing also make the chicken a little more stable on the rotisserie spit.

There’s no trick to stuffing everything inside – just cram as much as you can in there. It doesn’t have to be pretty.

Insert the spit through the center of the chicken. Rotisserie spits come with four-pronged forks that tighten with thumbscrews and keep the chicken stable on the spit. Just press the forks firmly into the chicken from both ends and tighten them up as securely as you can.

(No doubt, you can tell from the picture above that I had already sprinkled the rub on the chicken before I inserted the spit. That was actually a little backward, as I ended up rubbing a goodly portion of the rub off of the chicken onto my hands as I handled it. Let’s pretend that didn’t happen…)

Once you have the spit inserted and secured, use some kitchen twine (available at any grocery store) and tie the ends of the legs together. This helps keep the onion stuffing inside and keeps the legs from flailing about as the spit turns.

Brush the outside of the chicken with olive oil. This will help the rub to adhere better and help keep the chicken moist.

Next, sprinkle the entire bird with a good rotisserie chicken rub.

There are lots of recipes, but I’ve found this one to be the best (just mix everything together):

4 t. salt
2 t. paprika
1 t. onion powder
1 t. dried thyme
1 t. white pepper
½ t. cayenne pepper
½ t. black pepper
½ t. garlic powder

You can easily double or triple these measurements and mix up a bigger batch. I keep a shaker on hand and use it on regular grilled chicken and salmon.

Once the chicken is sufficiently covered in the rub, it’s time for the grill. You’re rotisserie attachment will come with instructions for the proper way to use it with your grill, so be sure you follow those closely. I have a three burner gas grill that I preheat to 350° to 400°, turning the middle burner down low once I onsert the spit so that the chicken doesn’t burn.

Although it will probably take from 1½-2 hours to cook, you’ll want to keep on eye on it to make sure the outside doesn’t burn. You’ll know it’s ready when a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the breast registers 165°.

Be sure you have oven mitts on when you take the spit off the grill, as it will be hot. As usual for grilled meat, let it rest for 10-15 minutes before carving.

Although preparing a chicken for the rotisserie can be involved, the end result is always rewarding. George and I each took a half of the chicken and defiantly and unapologetically ate every morsel, sucking the bones clean.

I dare say you would have done the same…enjoy!

The transition of autumn into winter, and the incessantly damp weather, has necessitated an upgrading of my decidedly unsturdy summer brogues (below) for some more robust winter shoes. My first port of call was the classic British retailer Russell & Bromley and although I went in search of brogues I finally came away with these jolly nice brown Abercrombies (below right). They are not cheap (£135) but are well-made and feel like they will last a good few years.

Strangely enough, Russell & Bromley don’t seem to have a website at the moment. According to Wikipedia (sorry) the company’s history began in 1873 when shoemaker George Frederick Bromley left Hastings and went to work for Albion Russell who was based in Lewes. If anyone knows more, please do comment.

Shoe buying tip: even if they feel a bit snug when you first get them, your R&Bs will loosen and soften up. Put on a pair of thick socks and wear them around the house for a few days before braving the streets. And don’t wear them for more than one or two days in a row for the first few weeks.

A Western Cape Tour Of Exciting Train Rides
Who will ever forget the first time they boarded a train and took a ride through rushing scenery and arrived at new destinations in something very different to a car? The sheer speed and power of the massive carriages and never having to stop until the destination is reached make train rides the great fun they are. Since most people on the planet are regular users of a car, the fun of train travel is unfamiliar to most. Regular transport trains for commuting on a daily basis to work, school, etc. can be crowded, but along the coast of the Western Cape, leading down to the Eastern Cape, train rides and services in the interests of tourists are fun. These train rides form part of an experience, instead of being a means to get somewhere. The rides journey through beautiful scenery and are a great way to see the sites of the Cape. A perfect way to take these train rides to explore the surrounding areas is to partake in a self driven tour and visit these exciting rides.

A typical tour of the sort would start in Cape Town, the Mother City of South Africa. The town has a lot of accommodation available ranging from five star hotels to comfortable backpackers. Trains are available for day trips through the Boland and wine country, one of the prime attractions of the Cape. The area has some of the finest wine establishments in the world and South African wines are widely considered to be of a very high quality. Cape Town also offers malls, a theme park, beautiful beaches, theatres, a cable car to the top of Table Mountain and many museums as the area is rich in culture and history. After two days in Cape Town, the tour heads to Stellenbosch, approximately a 40 minute drive away.

Stellenbosch is a historical town situated in the heart of the Winelands. The town thrives on its wine industry and farms as well as a world class University and breathtaking scenery. The Daisy Train is a local service running from various stations in Cape Town including Stellenbosch which travels to local towns of interest. Destinations for day trips include Vredendal, Darling and Botriver. The Daisy train is economical and fun and a great family outing. The accommodation in Stellenbosch ranges from B&B’s to hotels, to camping sites to guest farms. Other activities in Stellenbosch are of course, wine tasting, hiking, visiting the museums, playing golf, a crocodile farm, a giraffe reserve and butterfly world. After spending days three and four in Stellenbosch, the tour heads to Worcester for days five and six.

Worcester is situated in the Breede River Valley and is famous for its wine route, brandy cellars and Karroo National Botanical Gardens. The accommodation in Worcester is available as B&B’s, hotels, self catering, resorts and guest farms. The train rides available in Worcester are short day tours, long day tours and an overnight tour on the Hexpass Express, running on a railway which was abandoned and then remodelled for at train to take visitors through the beautiful scenery and historic sites. A tour guide accompanies visitors on the journey and explains the important historical facts of the area.

After spending two days and nights in Worcester, the tour heads for George. George is the ‘Capital City’ of the world famous Garden Route. This is an incredibly lush and beautifully vegetated area with the Outeniqua Mountains as a backdrop. George offers B&B’s, game lodges, hotels, guesthouses, backpackers, camping and self catering as accommodation. The train journeys from George travel through the Outeniqua Mountains. There are two train services which operate in the area, both available for day trips. The first is the Outeniqua Power Van which takes a gentle trip through the mountains, going through the various tunnels and scenic areas. The second is the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe, a steam train running between George and Mossel Bay, a 52km journey on the country’s only scheduled steam train. There is also a transport museum at the start of the Journey in George. After spending day seven in George on the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe or the Powervan, the tour heads back to Cape Town.

After returning to Cape Town, the final two days of the tour can be spent exploring the city once more. The local railway runs a train service between Cape Town and Simon’s Town which is a beautiful journey. There is also the option of taking one of the luxury trains departing from the station which travel across the country, one even travels to Cairo. After two more days in Cape Town the tour is over and instead of a trip spent sitting mostly in a car, most of the trip has been on luxurious trains exploring the beautiful surroundings of the Western Cape.

Sir George Mackenzie of Rosehaugh, also known as ‘Bluidy Mackenzie’ was a lawyer and lord advocate in the late 1600s and one of the most infamous hanging judges. As lord advocate, he was made minister in charge of the fate of the ‘Covenanters’, religious protesters arguing towards protestant law enforcement in Scotland. The inhumanity of his prosecution towards the ‘Covenanters’ gained him the nickname ‘Bluidy Mackenzie’ due to his responsibility for the deaths of over 18,000 men. He died in 1691 and was buried in Greyfriars Churchyard in Edinburgh.

In 1990, the tomb of George Mackenzie was broken into and two days later the unexplained events began. There have been an unbelievable number of alleged attacks in the last few years with a reported 500 documented incidents including 190 people collapsing. Visitors to his grave have reported bruises, scratches, gouge marks, bites and bafflingly even a number of broken fingers. One woman obtained rope marks around her neck as if she had been hung. Reverend Colin Grant attempted to perform an exorcism on the area with his son and two journalists as witnesses but claimed the forces were too overpowering and had to stop as he feared for his life. Two weeks later Colin Grant died of a heart attack.

The events were too much for Edinburgh City Council to take; subsequently they closed that area of the graveyard to the public, although ghost tours still visit the area and the spectators are recurrently haunted.
