When a soldier comes home, he finds it hard….

..to listen to his son whine about being bored.

….to keep a straight face when people complain about potholes.

…to be understanding when a co-worker complains about a bad night’s sleep.

to be tolerant of people who complain about the hassle of getting ready for work.

..to be silent when people pray to God for a new car.

…to control his panic when his wife tells him he needs to drive slower

..to be compassionate when a businessman expresses a fear of flying.

….to keep from laughing when anxious parents say they’re afraid to send their kids off to summer camp.

….to control his frustration when a colleague gripes about his coffee being cold.

….to remain calm when his daughter complains about having to walk the dog.

…..to be civil to people who complain about their jobs.

….to just walk away when someone says they only get two weeks of vacation a year.

….to be forgiving when someone says how hard it is to have a new baby in the house.

The only thing harder than being a Soldier..

Sabi ko po ng magsimula ang taong ito, it will be a year of breakthroughs at bago matapos ang taon, naging year of the break-up siya!

Ilan po sa aking mga kaibigan ay nagkaroon ng break-up sa taong ito! Ilan po sa kanila ay wedding bells na lang ang hinihintay ngunit nagbago ang ihip ng hangin!

Ilan din sa aking mga kaibigang lalaki ay hindi pumasa sa knailang mga nililigawan at ilan sa mga kaibigan kong babae ay nasakatan ng mga mapanlinlang na galaw ng mga gusto nilang mga lalaki.

Hindi ko na po sasabihin kung sino ang mga ito pero lahat po sila ay nasaktan. Kaya next time, tandaan niyo, “NEVER ASSUME UNLESS IT IS STATED!”

Speaking of nasaktan! Nasaktan din po ako para sa mga kaibigan ko at di lamang iyon… Ako ay nakaranas rin po ng sakit sa mga nangyari sa aking buhay.

Naalala ko noong nakaraang buwan sabi ko sa isang plurk message ko na I AM REFUSING TO FALL IN LOVE… Hindi lamang po iyon sa girlfriend-boyfriend kind of love kundi sa nangyari sa paligid ko…

Dapat po ay patungo na ako sa isa sa mga pangarap ko na maging ngunit may mga pangyayaring naganap na naging daan upang ako maging un-employed na naman!

Dumating ang literal na mga bagyo sa bansa at mga bagyo sa aking buhay lalo na sa pinaka-pinahahawakan kong PAMILYA!

Sobrang mahal ko po ang FAMILY namin and for 26 years, na-so-solve namin ang mga problema namin internally until September came!

I was really broken ng ma-confirm na may iba ng pamilya ang tatay ko(ngayon taon lang namin na-open ang problema kasi di na namin na kami na lang kasi may involve ng mga tao). September 2 ko na-confirm just for days before September 6. According to my birth certificate yun ang marriage date ng mga magulang ko, 1st time ko sana sila mababati ng Happy Anniversary pero isang dagok ang dumating!

Kasunod pa nito ang operasyon ng aking nanay sa Saudi na medyo kritikal!

Masakit! Broken kaming lahat sa pamilya at nakita ang buong istorya! Sobrang sakit na para bang ayaw ko na magmahal muli!

Gusto ko magalit ng lubos at di ko matanggap na nakalista na kami sa broken family list pero ang nakikita ko ay ang masasayang memory ng aming pamilya…

Feeling ko ng mga panahon na iyon, wala na akong mamahaling tao, kahit crush walang pumapasok sa isip ko… Nasaktan ako dahil sa pamilya ko, nasaktan ang mga kaibigan ko, naskatan ang buong angkan, hahayaan ko bang may masaktan pang muli?

Pero dahil ang ating DIYOS ay DIYOS ng pagmamahal at pagpapatawad. Sinimulan ko ulit magpatawad, magmahal, maghanap ng mga inspirasyon at mag-MOVE ON! Tinulungan din ako nga Small Group Leader ko at mga kaibigan ko upang muling makaahon!

Ilang luha ang aking iniiyak sa Panginoon at ilang pagluhod sa lupa ang aking ginawa upang magkaroon muli ng pagmamahal sa aking puso. At ang Panginoon ay sadyang may awa at di Niya ako pinabayaan.

Gusto ko pasalamatan sina Kuya Gerard, Melay, Jesse, Nathz, Sally, Charlie, Juancho, Jeoffrey, Jomark, Darryl, Ate Cathy at sa mga hindi ko nabanggit na tumulong sa akin… Pasensiya na pero maraming-maraming salamat talaga sa inyong lahat!

Nagsimula akong mag-MOVE ON, I entrusted everything to my GOD, I persevere and never gave up and my GOD started to control our lives once again!

Kanina, tinawagan ako ng Mommy ko (kaka-birthday lang niya nung isang araw), nag-start na rin siya mag-move on at ang mga kapamilya namin na dating galit na galit sa kanya ay nakita ang tunay na pangyayari at nagsisimula ng maki-pag-ayos sa kanya…

Tulad ng story ni Job sa Biblya, nang nawala ang kanyang pamilya, mas naging fruitful pa ang naging kapalit. Alam ko may mas magandang plano ang Diyos sa pamilya namin!

Hindi pa Siya tapos sa aming pamilya! Ako ay umaasa pa rin na pagdating ng panahon, maaayos din ang lahat! Isang leverage lamang ito sa buhay ni BHK na mahirap tapakan sapagkat may sira na di pa naayos pero darating ang panahon na mararating rin ang top of the ladder!

Nagyon ay natuto akong magmahal muli! Bumalik ako sa first love ko – si GOD! Ang aking BESTFRIEND, aking LORD at aking FATHER!

Natuto ulit ako magkaroon ng inspirasyon sa buhay at lumawak pa ang vision ko para sa mga tao sa paligid ko kabilang ang aking mga kaibigan pati na ang bansang Pilipinas! Truly, GOD is in control of everything! =)

Voilà une dizaine de jours que je rédigeais un article inhérent à une requête simple: la mise à disposition de conteneurs et bacs poubelle.

Le message est visiblement très bien passé puisque depuis hier, c’est chose faite à proximité de mon immeuble d’habitation.

Et pour l’occasion, ils n’y sont pas allés de main morte, pas moins de 4 gros conteneurs poubelle qui arrivent d’un coup d’un seul, à point nommé. Les riverains ne sont pas habitués à cela, car évidemment ils n’en ont jamais eu à disposition! Ils n’auront que l’embarras du choix, quel conteneur pourront-ils bien choisir pour déposer leurs déchets n’est-ce-pas?

Mais en tout cas, je m’en réjouis pleinement et c’était là tout le sens de ma requête, c’est plus de propreté dans les rues de notre ville et plus de responsabilisation des habitants, les invitant à non plus déposer leurs sacs poubelle sur les trottoirs mais dans les conteneurs prévus à cet effet.

Serge Pugeault se vante constamment de la rapidité de la majorité municipale à entamer la réfection de la Halle du Boulingrin, alors que par le passé ce dossier paraissait au ralenti.

C’est clairement de la mauvaise foi car si Adeline Hazan et son équipe ont eu la possibilité de lancer aussi vite ce dossier, c’est grâce aux travaux d’études réalisés par l’équipe précédente. Il serait bon qu’ils ne l’omettent pas!

M. Pugeault met en cause la lenteur du déblocage de l’aide de l’Etat à la réfection qui était bloquée depuis 1996…C’est aussi objectivement l’une des causes du non avancement du dossier par le passé !

Surtout, c’est la preuve que gouvernements de gauche comme de droite n’avaient pas rempli cet engagement, alors même que Serge Pugeault se répand partout en affirmant que l’enveloppe accordée dans le cadre du plan de relance n’est que le rattrappage de cette promesse non tenue.

Enfin et c’est important de le souligner, c’est Jack Lang qui a classé ce bâtiment pour des raisons politiciennes en 1985, alors que sa qualité architecturale est très largement décriée.

M. Pugeault a la mémoire bien courte et une lecture partiale et partielle de ce dossier, il n’a même pas le souci de la cohérence dans les propos qu’il tient, trop occupé à politiser à outrance et à vouloir discréditer l’Etat et l’Exécutif…

There was a kicker coming at me on Oude Straat, Kampen. Probably just like everyone else who’s reading this, I could tell from quite a distance that it was a kicker, not a cyclist. For me though, it was in spite of my condition of travel-induced daze and disorientation.

I was excited just to finally be there. Consequently I couldn’t rest at all, so I was looking around Kampen to find something to eat. Somehow, I was rolling down the main old street with the last of the sunlight at my back. Ahead of me, Gerard could see that I was a kicker, too and he was smiling as we approached. Even though it was the first time we had ever met, we were instantly friends and we stumbled through some introductions – stumbling due to my part, not his.

We kicked around for a short time that evening because it was getting close to dusk. The floating feeling on the Footbike I think was more pronounced that evening than at any other time I’ve ever experienced. It was especially dream-like, considering this: take someone from the middle of the U.S., put them on a long plane flight, subtract a large number of hours of sleep, pretty much by-pass Amsterdam and instead put them in a somewhat small Dutch town without having eaten for quite a few hours, coast down one of their oldest cobbled streets on scooter, and also realize that fairly soon that there would be scooter racing on the same type of surface.

Gerard helped bring me back into a make-do reality through his friendliness. He was the accidental Dutch welcoming committee! I was honored to have such a warm welcome by such a truly nice person. After he made sure that I knew where things generally were in town, then I said goodbye for the evening and went off to sleep at the small room I where I was staying.

As busy as Gerard was during the 3-day Championships where he was both volunteering AND racing, he and I would briefly touch base to see how things were going. The racing was organized very thoroughly and Gerard and all of the Dutch teammates were very busy making things run smoothly.

Near the end of my trip, I was also a guest at Gerard and his wife’s house. I was treated to entertaining stories about Kampen, their family, and of course having some more typical Dutch food. I found that I adapt pretty well to eating cheese and chocolate, as significant parts of my diet. That was some yum.

When it was time to leave the next day, Gerard escorted me to the train station. This severely understates what he was doing while riding his bike across town: he was balancing and supporting my heavy main luggage case on the rear rack with one arm behind him for about two kilometers, while negotiating a route that took us on bike paths, up and down what essentially were driveway aprons, threading between short, traffic-blocking posts, onto cobbled alleyways that had 90 degree turns midway through the block, turning along the busier, main, modern street that follows the River Ijssel, then crossing the beautiful 250 meter bridge to the train station, just on the other side of the span. Oh, and it was raining slightly to give the road a little more visual reflection as well as some slickness.

It was a generous performance of kindness and trick riding. We made it with time to spare and no dropped luggage. It was a fine Dutch Day.

SCOTTISH hunk Gerard Butler has shown his soft side by donating his teddy bear lookalike to Children in Need.

The big-hearted actor – best known for his testosterone charged role in blockbuster film 300 – has added his autograph to the prize.

The cuddly toy featured on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, where one was made of each guest on Friday 12 November.

Dressed in a red cape, brown pants and carrying a spear, the bear is styled on the star’s role as King Leonidas in the 2007 film which saw Butler screaming his way through the sword and sandals flick.

“This is Sparta!”

The stuffed Butler bear shouts “this is Sparta” when pushed in the tummy, and sports a drawn on six pack.

Made by Build-A-Bear – who make the official Children in Need Pudsey Bear – bids had already reached £430 last night (Tues), with three days left to go.

When the 40-year-old saw his doppelganger, he broke out into a big grin, saying: “I’ve had a couple of dolls made of me, but not a bear.”

And when he heard it speak, he added: “It sounds like my mum!”

The Paisley-born star was in the UK for the European premiere of his new film, Law Abiding Citizen, which was held in Glasgow.

It was also his 40th birthday on the day he appeared on the show – and a weekend of celebrations in London and Scotland followed.

As well as donating his signature to the cause, Butler filmed a link for the main Children in Need programme on BBC last Friday, urging people to donate to the charity.

Ce stade, qui il faut le dire, a été un véritable gouffre financier, avec un coût de 57 millions d’euros, est bien loin de répondre aux attentes que l’on pouvait en avoir.

En effet, ce stade ne peut accueillir d’autre événement sportif car il n’a pas été conçu pour. Ainsi, il a été précisé au dernier Conseil Municipal qu’il manquerait 1 mètre de pelouse pour pouvoir y accueillir des matches de rugby du Top 14! 1 mètre de pelouse, vous rendez-vous compte?!

Ensuite, ce stade vraiment mal situé et très mal ouvert sur la ville. Aucun commerce ne peut se développer autour comme cela peut se faire dans les autres villes disposant d’un équipement digne de ce nom.

Enfin, il est impossible d’y installer une scène pour des spectacles, les poids-lourds ne pouvant avoir accès à l’intérieur du stade!

Que dire de la pelouse dont la piètre qualité empêche, sauf à payer un prix prohibitif de réfection, la présence de publics et de l’insuffisance des loges pour les mécènes et entreprises, l’absence de couverture des coursives…

D’où l’intérêt de réaffirmer l’impérieuse nécessité de construire un Zénith à Reims.

Ce zénith est primordial pour l’attractivité de nos territoires, notamment envers la jeunesse et en terme d’image.

Coté professionnels, la demande est unanime, tous les producteurs locaux sont favorables à ce projet, mais surtout l’exemple le plus flagrant, est la demande de Messieurs les président et directeur de programmation des Flâneries Musicales de Reims qui souhaitent tous deux une vraie salle de spectacle de grande capacité.

Non vraiment, le stade Delaune, même s’il  présente une belle esthétique, est bien loin de correspondre aux attentes des rémois(es) et des champardennais.

Lundi s’est déroulé le débat d’orientations budgétaires de l’exercice 2010 sur fond de projet de réforme territoriale, de réforme de la Taxe Professionnelle et de transfert de responsabilités de l’Etat sur les collectivités locales.

Cette séance de Conseil municipal avait comme un air de déjà-vu ce lundi, chacun restait campé sur ses positions, comme il y a un an. Normal me direz-vous, majorité et opposition dos-à-dos dans un débat stérile, avec des critiques maintes fois entendues et des réponses redondantes contrant ces mêmes reproches, entre petits coups de griffes et phrases pseudo humoristiques. Des échanges verbaux rappelant les discours d’entraîneur de football dans les vestiaires, toujours la même litanie, le même verbiage, les mêmes remontrances, les victoires et les échecs passés… une sorte de bouillie verbale indigeste pour certains et appétant pour d’autres.

-Jean-Marc Roze (UMP) : « Comment pouvons-nous débattre, nous n’avons pas tous les éléments comptables pour apprécier votre gestion (…),  27 pages de chiffres pour éclairer le débat, mais il n’y a pas la lumière à tous les étages (…). Investir sans nous endetter relève de la science-fiction ».

-Adeline Hazan : « Comme d’habitude pour suivre Monsieur Roze, il faut se munir d’une calculatrice. Depuis plusieurs mois, vous affirmez que les dépenses de personnel vont augmenter de 13%, ce chiffre est purement fantaisiste et peu sérieux. La hausse n’est que de 0,5% ».

-Jean-Marie Beaupuy (MoDem) : « Vous jouez avec les variations de compétence entre la ville et la CAR, il est difficile de comparer d’une année sur l’autre (…)  Il manque un plan de relance(…)  Il faut aller plus vite, plus fort, plus loin (…) Madame la Maire, vous parlez des errements du passé et en même temps de la richesse culturelle et sportive de Reims, mais il faut mettre en exergue le grand écart entre les errements et ce dont vous vous rendez fiere (…) c’est sans doute un pêché de jeunesse ».

-Adeline Hazan : « Vous avez utilisé le terme de schizophrène, restons courtois (…)Vous parler de pêché de jeunesse Monsieur Beaupuy, tout le monde ne peut pas se le permettre (…) Je n’ai aucun état d’âme d’avoir soutenu certains projets sous la précédente municipalité, mais je dénonce certaines gestions financières antérieures (…) Le projet de tramway était dans mon programme en 2001, contrairement à la liste concurrente. En 2008, j’ai soutenu ce projet dès le début, ce n’est pas le cas de certains membres de l’opposition actuelle ».

-Stéphane Joly (Verts) : « Avec ce débat d’orientations budgétaires, en sortant de la salle, nous serons moins inquiets et rassurés ».

-Catherine Vautrin (UMP) reprochant le manque d’un véritable plan de relance et l’instauration d’une taxe sur les enseignes des commerçants…

-Serge Pugeault : « Concernant les enseignes Madame Vautrin, nous appliquons la loi que vous avez votée (…). Puisque l’on parle de plan de relance, l’Etat avait alloué 8 M € en 1996 pour la rénovation des Halles, cette même somme plusieurs années après est allouée à l’édifice au titre de plan de relance de l’Etat ! ».
Finalement, pourquoi créer un festival culturel « Reims Scènes d’Europe », quand une séance de Conseil municipal peut parfois se muer en vaudeville.

De cafetaria van het Stadsmus was zondagnamiddag te klein om al het volk een zitplaats te geven voor het animerende gesprek met actrice 80-jarige Alice Louis. Gerard Van Mulken sprak met haar uitvoerig over haar 60-jarige toneelcarrière in aanwezigheid van haar familie, vrienden en vele sympathisanten. Zelfs acteur Jan Stevens kwam even langs om haar te feliciteren. Met bloemen, een hartelijk applaus van alle aanwezigen en een oorkonde van Veldeke werd Alice geëerd voor haar hele toneelcarrière, waarna moeder en dochter Mieke op het einde een traantje wegpinkten.

Het begon voor haar allemaal in 1949 bij juffrouw Quax in zaal De Ware Vrienden. De Hasseltse revueschrijver Jules Klock raakte zo gecharmeerd door haar pittige verschijning, dat hij haar prompt een rol in zijn revues aanbood. Prompt debuteerde ze in een revuerol in de schouwburg De Ware Vrienden aan de Hasseltse Grote Markt.

Daarna volgden meerdere grote rollen in verschillende genres met rasacteurs zoals wijlen Georges Meuwis, Staf De Beuker en Jef Durwael bij de toneelgroep De Ware Vrienden-Climax. Deze stukken werden – in tegenstelling tot de revues – in het Algemeen Nederlands gebracht.

Essels

Begin jaren ’70 werd het dialect heropgewaardeerd en in het stuk ‘Geen lijk zonder Lily’ van Jack Poppewell speelde Alice als enige haar rol in het ‘Essels’. Het komisch effect was enorm. Hasselt liep storm en er dienden extra voorstellingen gespeeld te worden. Voor Alice was dat een van de hoogtepunten uit haar toneelcarrière.

Het succes van ‘Geen lijk zonder Lily’ was de rechtstreekse aanleiding om ‘De Revues’ van Jules Klock vanonder het stof te halen en onder de bezielende regies van Willy Vanheesvelde en Georges Meuwis groeiden de Jules Klockavonden met telkens Alice in de glansrol uit tot een grandioos succes.

Revues

Meteen was ook de kiem gelegd voor de drie Hasselse revues: ‘Doa zit wir kerremes enne loch’ – ‘Rappleer djz’oech nog?’ – ‘Stad be ’n chapeaubus’. Regisseur Willy Vanheesvelde, tekstschrijver Jos Ghysen, Miel Cools die de muziek componeerde en Louis Verbeeck die de liedjesteksten schreef, zorgden voor een ongeëvenaard succes in het Hasselts theaterleven.

Herneming

Bij haar 60-jarig jubileum eind november wordt “Geen lijk zonder Lily” opnieuw op de planken gebracht door Het Hasselts Toneel in het Essels met opnieuw Alice Louis in de hoofdrol. Naast haar spelen ook haar dochter MiekeVandebeek en Jan Stevens, als commissaris, mee. Souffleuse Marie-Jeanne, die er ook al bij was in 1949,  neemt eveneens nog eens haar rol op achter de scène.

Briobox a ouvert ses portes il y a quelques semaines seulement et c’est par hasard que je suis tombé dessus, rue Quincampoix (et ici). C’est courageux (inconscient ?) de se lancer dans cette activité en ce moment. A priori la galerie ne se consacrera pas à un medium en exclusivité mais, pour le 1er accrochage, c’est la photo qui est retenue avec Franck Gérard (quoi qu’il m’a semblé, au vu de la diversité des pièces, que plusieurs artistes coexistaient, notamment au sous-sol).

L’artiste montre des photographies de petites choses, souvent cocasses, saisies sur le vif et un peu surréalistes (illustration ci-dessous tirée de Lesartistescontemporains.com). Ceci dit, en vitrine on voit comme des tôles cabossées (peintes ?) et au sous-sol ce sont plutôt des installations.

Le site web n’est pas finalisé: la partie presse est vide, de même il manque tout commentaire ou information, à part les coordonnées de la galerie et les mentions légales. Agaçants aussi, les titres en anglais (legal, press,etc) alors que le peu de contenu est en français, rarement traduit. Evidemment, pas moyen de faire des liens sur les illustrations, Flash oblige (je ne comprends toujours pas pourquoi les webeux persistent avec cette technologie).

Le site de l’artiste (ici) est quant à lui est “en travaux” et on se demande de quelle année sont les expositions qu’il annonce alors même qu’il n’indique pas celle en cours chez Briobox. Bref.

En attendant que la galerie ait fini son rodage (espérons pour elle que ce sera rapide car la concurrence est vive), vous pouvez visiter l’exposition, c’est jusqu’au 22 novembre 2009.

SCOTTISH hunk Gerard Butler is returning to his roots for the European premiere of his new film, Law Abiding Citizen.

He has said it will be a “thank you” to his hometown for the support he has received during his career.

But it has also been revealed that the heart-throb has turned away from a film about Rabbie Burns, sparking fears that the movie will be axed completely.

Butler revealed the Glasgow premiere in a recent online chat with fans.

“Get merry”

He wrote: “Maybe I will see some of you at the premiere of Law Abiding Citizen because we are having out European premiere in Glasgow.

“Get merry and drink. I wish I could but I don’t. I hope to see you all soon. Have a good time.”

And a spokesman for Momentum Pictures confirmed the plans.

He said: “It hasn’t been announced officially yet but the premiere will be on November 15 at Cineworld, Renfrew Street.

“It will be something different having him in his home town.”

But the news comes in the same week that it is revealed the Hollywood star has snubbed a film about Robert Burns that was due to be made this year.

“Huge blow”

And there are now worries that it won’t go ahead at all due to the big name lead dropping out.

A source close to the movie said: “Gerry was up for playing the part a couple of years back – but it’s not on his radar now.

“He has much bigger projects in the pipeline and has pulled out. It’s a huge blow. To be honest, there’s little chance of it being made at all without Butler involved. He was the key.”

A spokesman from Scottish Screen confirmed that the film, which was due to be co-produced by London-based Mob Films, had been postponed.

They added: “Burns will not be made this year. We haven’t heard from the production company for a while and there is no chance of Gerard Butler now becoming involved.”

It’s a blow for the Scottish film industry, which has had a number of high-profile films cancelled thanks to the credit crunch.

“Warmth”

Mary Queen of Scots – due to star Scarlett Johansson – was also given the chop earlier this year due to financial restrictions.

Butler is returning to his roots with the premiere and reminisced about his childhood days when he was chatting with fans.

He said: “I came from a family of larger-than-life characters who were a joy to be around.

“They were a lot of jokers and storytellers, a lot on warmth. But it was tough as well. There could be a serious amount of confrontation.

Afgelopen maandag gaf Nicolien haar schrijfklasje voor het eerst huiswerk op. Voor zaterdag aanstaande 12.00 uur een plotje op papier naar aanleiding van een artikel in de krant. En vervolgens een aanzet tot het verhaal. Ik ben niet zo’n streber en toch heb ik het al af. Misschien heb ik gewoon ‘per toeval’ een inspiratoire* artikel gevonden. In ieder geval, onderstaand eerst het plot (dus de afloop geef ik nu bij wijze van uitzondering al weg) en daarna de eerste regels tekst. Het commentaar van mijn klasgenoten zet ik er volgende week bij.

Plot: Een man wordt, zonder besef van identiteit, voor de poli van een ziekenhuis aangetroffen. Hij spreekt Engels en Yoruba, een taal die in Nigeria gesproken wordt. Na anderhalf jaar ter observatie kan Yoruba, zo wordt de man inmiddels genoemd, zich nog steeds niet herinneren wie hij is en waar hij vandaan komt.
