A North Carolina man will never see the light of day again after being found guilty of scaring a 79-year old grandmother to death.

21-year old Larry Whitfield was found not guilty of murder Friday in the death of Mary Parnell last year. Jurors did find him guilty, however, of causing her death by kidnapping, and that carries an automatic life sentence.

According to prosecutors for the case, Whitfield was looking for a place to hide after a robbery and broke into Parnell’s home causing her to have a heart attack. While he never touched the grandmother, he did cause the heart trauma and never called for help.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a national holiday tradition, and has been so for the past 83 years, and this year the tradition continued.

This year, the parade route returns to its roots with it ending at 34th street right in front of the Macy’s store. This is different than it has been in recent years.

 There is a list of performers that include Katharine McPhee, Jane Krakowski, and we have Spiderman, Kermit and Spongebob floating down the parade route. Ziggy Marley, the son of the legendary Reggae singer Bob Marley, performed a song with his daughter on a float decorated as a pirate ship.

Katharine McPhee, sporting her new sassy blonde ‘do, performed her new single “Had It All.” Jane Krakowski performed a Christmas tune. She may play a ditzy spoiled celeb on “30 Rock,” but in real-life Krakowski is quite the songbird.

Teen superstar Miley Cyrus made an exuberant appearance waving to her throngs of excited fans that lined the parade route waiting patiently for the international superstar. She looked great, in light of the bush crash tragedy that killed her long time tour bus driver this past friday. Today was much happier times for her.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade aired on CBS and NBC at noon ET/9 am PT.

Whenever you go to a fast food establishment, be it McDonald’s or Arby’s or Wendy’s, and you get your delights to go, they always give you those obnoxious, tiny ketchup packets.  I have several qualms with these petit sachets.  1.) They are made of a very slippery material, rendering them terribly difficult to open.  Especially when your hands are covered in grease and ketchup.  2.) After successfully managing to open the slippery packet, ketchup inevitably explodes everywhere, making opening the next one an even bigger struggle.  It is a slippery cycle and a vicious slope.  3.) Most annoyingly, once liberated, there is only enough ketchup for about two and a half fries.  At the end of my meal it looks like I’ve eaten a dozen Big Macs and a pound of fries, when in actuality all I had was a Fruit and Yogurt Parfait.

With all the technology around these days, one would think that the giants of the ketchup industry would be able to come up with a better way of providing consumers with travel sized portions of their product.

Ketchup, Catsup, Getsup.  Whatever.  I hate it.

TORONTO — Dallas Stars winger James Neal has been suspended two games for his hit on Columbus’ Derek Dorsett Thursday night.

Neal hit Dorsett from behind as he stood at the boards midway through the second period. Dorsett’s face hit the glass and he fell to the ice and appeared stunned. He left the game and did not return and is undergoing evaluation.

Dorsett was assessed a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct at the time. The Blue Jackets won the game 4-1.

Neal, a second-year left winger, is the Stars’ leading scorer with 11 goals and 22 points. He will miss a game against New Jersey on Saturday and against Carolina on Monday.

Dorsett is in his second year with the Jackets and has 1 goal and four points in 18 games.

The 22-year-old Neal will will forfeit US$8,515 in salary and is eligible to return Nov. 26 at Colorado.

A tragedy has occurred today in the Hannah Montana’s  camp, and it is a terrible accident. Miley Cyrus is admired worldwide by her legions of pre-teen admirers, including my little baby cousins who love her show, so this is very disturbing news for them to hear.

The AP is reporting that one person was killed Friday when a tour bus belonging to entertainer Miley Cyrus overturned, but the 16-year-old “Hannah Montana” star wasn’t on board, Virginia State Police said.

The tour bus was part of a 4-vehicle caravan which included the bus that crashed. The tour manager reported that…”It was one of our buses that transported our lighting crew.”

TMZ.com reports that… apparently the driver lost control and the bus started drifting to off the road. The driver was the only fatality in the accident as others were rushed to the hospital. It’s not clear yet how or why the driver lost control or whether he died before or after the crash. It could also have been caused by the extremely wet roads in the area earlier this morning.

Sgt. Thomas Molnar said the passengers exited the bus through the front windshield.

The 16-year-old’s website said the Hannah Montana star is expected to perform Sunday in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Disney star is scheduled to play two dates in London next month on her upcoming European tour.

Cyrus, who is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray, began her solo singing career in 2007 with her debut album, Meet Miley Cyrus.

Any investigation is currently underway to determine why the bus drifted and was overturned.

I wish Disney’s brightest young star better days, and we send our condolences to the family of the deceased bus driver who lost his life in this terrible accident.

I always liked her energy, and she comes off as a fun kid to hang with in her interviews.I am never mad to buy her merchandise for my little baby cousins, and they love to dress up and act like her, so I can’t be mad that.

Brittanya O’Campo, one of those chicks from the VH1 shows “Rock of Love” and “Charm School”, has filed a police report claiming she was date raped last Friday night. The folks over at the The Dirty published a nude photo of Brittanya slumped over after the alleged crime below:

But the story even gets more bizarre. The alleged rapist, a Portland, Ore. club promoter, rumored to be called Dusty, says the sex was consensual and even thanked Brittanya for the one night of, um, passion. He told her: “I can not even believe last night!!! I had sooo much fun tho.” He did this on Twitter, of course!

Now another man has come to Brittanya’s defense. Andrew Vrakas, Director of Operations, for I Love VH1 Party (who? what?) sent a letter to The Dirty asking them to remove the photo and to add, that while Brittanya may be a drunk who sleeps around, she would never willingly have sex with a promoter. Never.

“She said she believes someone put something in her drink because she only had 3 drinks and is known for keeping control. She is pressing charges against the perps and has hired a layer to go after anyone who needs to be gone after… I’m a promoter and I know Brittanya well. I know she is no angel, but I know she doesn’t screw promoters.. maybe celebs… but not a lowly promoter! She seems likes a bad ass, but she is a sweetheart and a mother with an 8-year-old son.”

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Lowell Devils defenseman Tyler Eckford has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 15, 2009. Eckford notched two goals, seven assists and a plus-6 rating in three games as the Devils tied a franchise record by extending their winning streak to five games.

Eckford’s week featured three three-point nights, beginning on Wednesday afternoon when he recorded three assists in Lowell’s 7-3 win at Worcester. He scored two power-play goals and assisted on the game-winner in Friday’s 5-1 victory to complete a home-and-home sweep of the Sharks, and dished out three more assists on Saturday as Lowell raced past Providence, 5-3.

In recognition of his achievement, Eckford will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Devils home game.

A second-year pro, Eckford ranks third among AHL defensemen with 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) in 18 games for Lowell this season. As a rookie with the Devils in 2008-09, Eckford totaled two goals and 25 assists in 72 AHL contests. Eckford, 24, is a native of Vancouver, B.C., and was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 2004. He was an NCAA West First Team All-American at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 2007-08.

SINGAPORE, Nov 14, 2009 (AFP) – Ten-man Australia battled back to beat Oman while former England captain Bryan Robson got his first win in a competitive match as Thailand coach on Saturday in crucial 2011 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Australia stayed top of Group B after seeing off Oman 2-1 in Muscat.

Khalifa Ayil Al-Naufli put the Omanis ahead in the 16th minute, but Luke Wilkshire levelled two minutes from half-time before Brett Emerton scored the winner seven minutes from the final whistle.

Australia have seven points from four matches, one in front of Kuwait who saw off Indonesia 2-1 and who have played a game less.

The two top teams in each group qualify for the finals in Qatar in 2011.

Oman, who meet five-time world champions Brazil in a prestige friendly on Tuesday, were awarded a penalty when Imad Al Hosni was fouled inside the area by Rhys Williams who was red-carded.

Al-Naufli had his spot-kick saved by goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, but the striker was quickest to the rebound to score at the second attempt.

Australia levelled when Mark Bresciano set up Wilkshire. Fulham goalkeeper Schwarzer pulled off three fine saves in the second half before Australia grabbed a late winner with Emerton beating Ali Al Habsi in the Oman goal.

Thailand beat Singapore 3-1 to give Robson a winning competitive start as coach.

An 11th minute penalty by Sutee Suksomkit, who recently joined Australian A-League outfit Melbourne Victory, opened the scoring in a one-sided first half before Thardsak Chaiman made it 2-0 with 15 minutes left.

Sutee bagged his second soon after before Mustafic Fahrudin pulled one back for the home team from the penalty spot as the game wound down.

The victory moved Thailand into second place in Group E, two points behind Iran who edged Jordan 1-0 in Tehran.

“It’s great to win my first competitive game but my job is to qualify and I need to succeed in that and only then will I be happy,” said Robson.

Former Middlesbrough and West Brom manager Robson, who took over from Peter Reid in September, has instilled a cohesion in Thailand in the short time he has been there and they ran Singapore ragged.

Their movement was excellent and bodes well for the return leg in Bangkok on Wednesday, where Raddy Avramovic knows his side must win to keep alive any hopes they have of making their first Asian Cup.

Singapore have three points from three games.

Elsewhere, Uzbekistan proved too good for Malaysia in Tashkent, winning 3-1 with Asian player of the year Server Djeparov among those finding the target.

The Uzbekis have now won their opening two games in Group C, which only comprises three teams after India, who were drawn in the group, automatically qualified for the finals by winning the AFC Challenge Cup last year.

Malaysia have no points from two games while the UAE are second with three points.

In Hanoi, Vietnam conceded a goal in stoppage to crash 1-0 to Group D leaders Syria.

Vietnam desperately needed to pick up points with just two on the board from three games following a demoralising 6-1 defeat in China last time out.

China then saw off Lebanon 2-0 in Beirut with Yu Hai and Qu Bo on target.

The game was stopped for 10 minutes as Lebanese fans protested the second goal.

The Chinese are second in the group, three points behind Syria who have a perfect nine points from three matches.

Somaya Reece, has broken her silence on Tahiry by speaking up for the rapper’s former lover and defending her against the public’s negative judgment.

In addition to Tahiry, Somaya also discussed the heat she has already received from being with the outspoken rapper.

“The hatred is pretty much always the same thing,” she explained in an interview. “Either they think I’m trying to gain some sort of career-obviously they don’t know who I am, because I was already doing it. I have accomplished everything on my own without an agent or any help. A disgraced former US congressman who stashed 90,000 dollars in his freezer was sentenced to 13 years in prison Friday for accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes.

William Jefferson, a Democratic lawmaker who represented a district in the southern state of Louisiana that included part of New Orleans, was convicted in August on 11 of 16 counts, including bribery, money laundering and racketeering involving businesses in Africa.

The 13-year prison sentence, far less than the 27 years recommended by prosecutors, is said to be the longest prison term ever for a US lawmaker convicted on charges of corruption.

The previous record came in 2006, when Republican former congressman Randall “Duke” Cunningham received a prison sentence of eight years and four months for accepting bribes from defense contractors.

Jefferson, 62, was also ordered to forfeit more than 470,000 dollars in assets.

“In a stunning betrayal of the public’s trust, former congressman Jefferson repeatedly used his public office for private gain,” Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Mythili Raman said in a statement.

US District Court Judge T.S. Ellis III handed down Jefferson’s sentence at an Alexandria, Virginia courtroom just outside Washington.

“We expect to file an appeal at the appropriate time,” Jefferson’s attorney Amy Jackson told AFP.

She declined to comment on the sentence.

Following a six-week trial, the jury found that from 2000 to 2005, Jefferson used his post as a US lawmaker to obtain hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from oil, communications, sugar and other companies in Nigeria, Ghana, Botswana, Equatorial Guinea and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In turn, he advanced the interests of the businesses and individuals who paid the bribes, namely through his seat on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee — the chamber’s top tax-writing panel — without disclosing his own financial dealings with the ventures.

Jefferson’s indictment in 2007, which followed a huge FBI corruption probe, listed a series of alleged schemes in Africa, including telecommunications deals, oil concessions, satellite transmission contracts and the development of industrial plants and other facilities.

The case exploded on the public stage in August 2005, when the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided Jefferson’s Washington home and found the cold cash, allegedly bribe money intended for the former Nigerian vice president, wrapped in aluminum foil and hidden in frozen food containers in his freezer.

In May 2006, FBI agents raided his congressional office — the first raid of its kind — in a move denounced by both Democratic and Republican lawmakers.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – Baton Rouge rapper Torrence Hatch, better known as Lil Boosie, was back in court Monday after violating his probation.

District Court Judge Chip Moore revoked Hatch’s probation, sending him straight to jail.

Hatch was on house arrest with an ankle monitor. The monitor indicated that on more than one occasion, Hatch had violated the terms of his release.

Judge Moore doubled Hatch’s original sentence and ordered him to spend four years in prison.

Hatch was convicted of drug and gun charges in September.
