Have you joined the Meatless Monday movement yet? If you have not yet, what are you waiting for?!

Have you joined the Meatless Monday movement yet? If you have not yet, what are you waiting for?! The movement has gone global with entire cities like Ghent, Belgium, and a month later, Tel Avivi, Israel declaring meatless days.

In Israel, it was the food magazine, Al Hashulchan, that organized the movement. Why? The editor, Janna Gur, explains:

The idea is to say to diners: Eat less meat, save money and resources and also maintain your health…After all, it’s better to eat high-quality meat that has been carefully raised in good conditions and is maybe more expensive once a week than it is to eat meat everyday that we don’t know exactly where it comes from and might contain hormones and antibiotics. Most importantly, in Israel it’s great fun to be a vegetarian. There is an abundance of fruits and vegetables and it’s weird not to take advantage of this.

Al Hashulchan is supported by over 30 restaurants that have committed to serving more vegetarian dishes on Monday:

Every Monday, chef Hussam Abbas of the Al Babour restaurant adds an abundance of vegetable dishes from Arab cuisine.

“This is mainly because diners ask me for meatless dishes,” he said. On Mondays at his restaurant Abbas serves baladi eggplant with yogurt, rijli – a local plant from the north cooked with tomatoes and garlic, grape leaves “because it’s the season now” and meatless stuffed zucchini with rice and friki (smoked green cracked wheat). “Lots of people ask for this and in the summer it’s very suitable,” Abbas said.

How exciting to join a movement that has reached the Baltimore City School system , Ghent, and Tel Aviv! Not to mention, if you join or are a member, you have fellow Meatless eaters around the world. Check out the Meatless Monday movement in other countries and snapshots of their websites! (Note: Click on the picture to go to that country’s site)

In a world ‘first’, StAnza is running a virtual poetry festival on Saturday 14th Novembe

In a world ‘first’, StAnza is running a virtual poetry festival on Saturday 14th November. Poetry events throughout the world are being streamed in to the Byre Theatre, St Andrews, from 1pm until late. You can see the event on stage at the Byre, or as a live webcast on the StAnza website. To repeat: It’s happening live, in real time. I’m reproducing the whole programme below. I have a personal interest in the Tblisi link, as a I met David Robakidze and Gaga Naxutsrishvili at the Utena Poetry Festival in Lithuania last year, and both are powerful performers. Well done in advance to Eleanor Livingstone of StAnza for organising this, and to the technical teams at the Byre and on the website.

a scar under her knickers,
a mascara poppy with a leaf, a romantic poison –
with a famous bottle, sadness which she
had picked from the cafés while sitting there
with her ex-boyfriends
and chain of hotels haunting her day and night.
I was writing down the stories that shocked me
while as having read the others I was throwing them away.

So we have brought the child up: he’s already a man.
He has a lot of CD-s and he never listens to anybody.
He knows so well that bones can breathe.
He laughs at years greeting him.
After work he always goes his second home,
he takes his father /he’s one of his mother’s husbands/ by taxi
to his parents who are called Mr. Gikha and Mrs. Ria and
who are on the photo.
He loves his wife as much as his mother though she plays the floor
and sometimes weighs every word and – as she said offshore –
she respects her father-in-law and that’s why she always lays the table
and sets the fireplace when he comes.

Sometimes I get fresh air into my house gardens.
Sometimes I play with my grandchildren and put them to bed.
Sometimes I forget my sadness and look after fruit.
My girlfriend has no more heavy thoughts and headache.
I threw the romantic poison away.
Now I’m thinking about my guests – Mr. Morning and Mrs. Night:
they seem to be late – as usual.

* * *

The trees which are necessary for life are given
electricity each season.
While as the ordinary trees are waiting for
spring and water rising in rivers.
In spring their buds will light up and stay like that until
somebody will come and pick the ripened fruit.

* * *

You’re a cart pulled by two oxen –
a heart ox and a brain ox.
A voiceless man makes you carry loads.
And you’re going to be wise…
after the event.

WHAT IS “A MAN”?

 A man is:
when you model a money-box of clay giving it a shape of a man
and making a slot where a rib should be.
A man is:
when you model a money-box of clay giving it a shape of a man
and when you take it to sell at the market.
A man is:
when you model a money-box of clay shaping it into a man
and make children carried by parents turn their heads and have a look at it.
A man is:
when you model a money-box of clay giving it a shape of a man
and bring it hardly wrapped back home not having managed to sell it.
A man is:
when you model a money-box of clay giving it a shape of a man
and leave it to your children so that they should break it at the waistline until
coins reach the throat.
A man is:
when you model a money-box of clay giving it a shape of a man
and never manage to explain how you have done that.

A short report will be given since I ain’t like repeating myself… :s Pos: - funny to say

A short report will be given since I ain’t like repeating myself… :s

Pos:
- funny to say but the location: I liked the fact that I did not had to search our car. In Ghent it is not easy to park your car. But from a photographer’s point I can understand that the location was not superb compared to a park you have before.
- different eat- and drinking places: French fries, hot dogs, at the entrance and at the cosplay stage (I count 4!)
with more diversity (hot dog, French fries, sandwiches, Asian, …) compared to the previous editions
- stamp you received when you went outside which allowed you to come back in
- option to leave your coats at the entrance
- separate changing rooms (although some people definitely were wrong, unless they changed from sex) :s
- toilets: 3 huge places (more separated and more available toilets compared to the other years
- NURD!
- reduction for cosplayers
- the information/cosplay desk at the entrance. Clearly stated and perfect location!
- the possibility to get cash
- more professional light equipment for the cosplay performances.

Con:
- parking 5 euro… although we parked free on Sunday. =)
- euh… where is the “costume price” which clearly was mentioned in the rules (on the website)?
- performance stage, it seemed smaller and the location was not ideal
- volume of the music: sometimes it seemed loud, sometimes too silent
- unclarity with the Eurocosplay. They had to take also the potential participants of Sunday into account + the information was announced quite late.
- lockers!
- only 2 ticket booths.

Personal Con:
- did not had to opportunity to see/do stuff in hangar 3… it was too hectic/busy. Barely saw hangar 5.
- Aztek-TV stand which was VERY busy.
- I did not see lot of friends/cosplayers… gomen
- costumières (or whatever) of the Euro cospaly: they did not ask ANYTHING on how I made my outfit except: “may I see the inlay?”. How can you be certain that the person really made it her/him self if you only ask 1 CLOSED question?
- why making huge publicity of the Eurocosplay and place the participants at the end of the huge competition? *confused*
- missing fairy godmother and cinderella in our Disney group.
- jealousy, gossip, and 2-face people. No thank you, not with me. :p
- catwalk… first wrote on the website that it was obliged and in the end it was not needed? Why do you place a catwalk and add the rule in the first place?

Personal Pos:
- saw people back, even if it was for one second!
- children who loved our outfits!
- dad who had clearly fun with being Merlin!
- Jessie who loved our Disney group. Knowing that she it a HUGE Disney fan, it pleased me a lot that she was thrilled!
- learned a LOT this weekend!

Suggestions:
- combi tickets: save time, more environment friendly and easier!
- cosplay competition: spread this please. Do for ex. first the individuals, and hour break and then the groups. Of the same scenario but then the 2 “main” categories (games, anime, manga film, divers, …). Advantages: cosplayers can see each other performance, less waiting for the audience/cosplayers and less “boring” for the audience. It will also seem that the performance stage is more used!
- separated “reserved space” for photographers at the performance stage?
- maximum in advance declared amount of participants for the cosplay (except Eurocosplay) and they get a discount or free entrance.
- subscriptions cosplay: only in ADVANCE and NOT viewable on the net! (maybe put a reserve list of max 5 persons in working) More professional, only in advance == less waiting rows when confirming your presence, ask images/mp3 files in ADVANCE. I am also NOT interested to know who does what, I see it @ FACTS itself. It is a bigger surprise seeing others cosplays and you will avoid reactions like starting bets, suggesting that it is X who does Y, … Plus I do not understand WHY FACTS is the ONLY convention in Europe who allows lists of participants…

What also was somehow annoying: some where complaining towards ME about the JURY’s choice. Sorry but it is not in MY hands.
You cannot change the history but you can learn from it.

Finally it is evening ’cause tonight I’m going to the movies to see This is it. People already said me the movie just is it! When the concert was anounced in the O2-Arena, I stayed up all night for tickets and I wanted to go so badly, you really have no clue. Michael is my idol since I first heard his Ben through the speakers at home. I was sold. Now I can proudly say I have almost collected all his songs, some in differents editions. But there was still one wish, seeing him in person. Too bad it would stay with that dream. But tonight he is back on the screen in Kinepolis in Ghent. I can hardly wait.

Of the Week End Never Dies.

Lol… I just wanted a catchy title.

It seems like they are doing a hug effort! =D
I heard that there will be lockers available for the visitors, +60 consoles and the assassin creed II demo (provided by Ubisoft) and the extra arrangements for the cosplayers (trip to London + best costume price).

This already sounds very good, it looks like they are taking a step in the right direction.
But I am waiting for the con itself… simply because aside from this, things can still be the same.
Therefore I will only form my opinion after Saturday the 17th.
