<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Have you been counting the days until Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Dragon’s Dogma are released? Well luckily for you, GameStop is opening its doors a little early, or late depending on how you look at it, so you can wait a little less. They are the only store that we can find who have confirmed to be opening on Monday for a midnight, or earlier, release, but I’m sure more stores will make announcements as we get closer to Monday. For now it’s all GameStop.</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">USA</span></strong></p>
<p>GameStop stores across the US will be opening at 10pm for the release of GRFS and Dragon’s Dogma, <a href="http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/events/may-midnight/#expand" target="new">click here</a> to search to see if a store near you is opening early.</p>
<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Canada</span></strong></p>
<p>In Canada, they make things a bit easier by giving you a <a href="http://www.ebgames.ca/gs/landing/ghost-recon-future-soldier/earlyopenings.htm" target="new">list of stores in each province</a> that are opening at midnight. Plus they are having a huge <a href="http://www.ebgames.ca/gs/landing/ghost-recon-future-soldier/images/grfs-launch-event-poster.jpg" target="new">Launch Event</a> for Ghost Recon on the 22nd in Toronto, with a multiplayer tournament and tons of prizes. Plus free energy drinks, bonus.</p>

<h1> I ain&#8217;t afraid of no Ghosts</h1>
<p>For a lot of shooters nowadays, the idea of patience is taboo, like it was some naughty word or an out of date, ignorant way of thinking. Run and gun has become synonymous for the most part with this genre, especially those of the first-person, military-based variety. Many franchises that even once revolved around stealth have abandoned their proud roots for the sake of just getting the bullets to fly as fast and as furiously as possible. The folks at City Interactive though feel there is still a strong base of gamers out there who would enjoy a more involved simulation that rewards you for taking your time, being precise, and not making a sound. And so we here at EGM got into our best camos, snuck into our game room, and sat down for a demo of <em>Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2</em>.</p>
<p>The first thing we immediately took notice of was the detailed and rich environments we saw in the two-level preview we were given. Courtesy of the power of CryEngine 3, the levels we saw were massive in scope yet still were able to highlight the tiniest of details as if we were actually in those locations. Also, whereas in the first game you were relegated to jungle environments, you’re going to get a lot more diversity in <em>Sniper 2</em> in terms of location and that was evident in that we saw both an urban and jungle level in our demo, and we were promised some campaign levels in the Himalayas, although we did not actually see them.</p>
<p>The new engine also allowed a lot of the A.I. issues that those who played the original <em>Sniper</em> complained about to really be cleaned up with enemies reacting much more dynamically to you when you were spotted. The new engine also allows a lot more enemies on screen at once. Really focusing in on the stealth elements, there were whole sections of the levels we saw where discretion was the better part of valor and it was much smarter just maneuvering around enemies instead of engaging them in any way.</p>

<p>There is also a lot more feedback being given to the player. Picking up enemy snipers from the glint on their rifles, tagging patrolling foes via binoculars, and a whole new detection system have been implemented to help you work your way through levels.</p>
<p>“The main difference compared to the first <em>Sniper</em> <em>Ghost Warrior</em> in terms of detection feedback is we were only telling players if we were being spotted at the moment, but it never told us from which direction. So we added the direction tracker to make it easier to maneuver away from enemy sights as now only when the indicator fully fills up does it actually register with the enemy A.I. that he’s spotted us. So if I move slowly and carefully enough, I can correct any errors I may make and back up back into cover,” said <em>Sniper Ghost Warrior 2</em> Producer Michael Sroczynski</p>

<p>Aside from the A.I. and environments though, there is even more going into this franchise facelift. Your rifle selection has increased to allow for bolt-action rifles. There are now several different stealth kill animations including kidney stabbing and throat slitting. You can blow off enemy body parts if you hit them in the right spots with the right weapons and ammunition. And, of course, bullet cam is returning, where when you get those special kills, whether it be a really far off enemy or the last guy in a crowded room, the camera does a panoramic around the bullet as it releases from your rifle and tears through the flesh and bone of your foe, putting him down like the dog that he is.</p>
<p>City Interactive is also implementing a Custom Difficulty mode on top of the traditional Easy, Medium, and Hard modes. This Custom Difficulty will allow you to choose what assists you do or do not want. If you want wind resistance to be on, but not gravity factors, or if you don’t want to have to take weights and balances into account, but still want to be able to hold your breath to steady your shot, then this mode will be perfect for all those micro-managers out there. But, if you want the most accurate sniper simulation possible, then leaving most of those factors on is the way to go.</p>
<p>With our demo complete and dozens of digital denizens’ brains blown out, I admit that the only thing I could think of was that fellow fans of stealth and headshots should definitely be looking forward to this game<em>. </em>If this tasty tidbit was any sign of things to come, then I can’t wait to grab my spotter and head back into the shadows when <em>Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2</em> releases this summer on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Yes, I know what you must think. I&#8217;ve completely lost it. I&#8217;ve gone off the deep end and nothing can bring me back. Well the truth is that this game is not actually that bad. I haven&#8217;t been playing it much lately if I&#8217;m honest. I finished it once and then had a second go at it for kicks but didn&#8217;t get all the way through. The big problems that have haunted this game were people&#8217;s initial impressions. The release version was buggy and felt a bit slap-dash. That&#8217;s a terrible thing for a game to be upon release. Reviewers criticize release copies and only release copies. They do not do a second review after a patch or two. Only MMO&#8217;s get elongated reveiwer treatment. So what does that really mean? It means that the game you and I play will only coincide with the review if we play upon release. If we play a patched version of the game, we&#8217;re playing something a bit different. Hopefully. This isn&#8217;t always the case, but nine times out of ten what is wrong on release is usually dealt with. For this reason, it could be said that reviews are perishable. They only have a shelf life of a short while. Only when a game is catastrophically bad with fundamental problems to it&#8217;s design or set up, can a review be as true today as it was when it was written. However, that&#8217;s no excuse. Developers know when reviews are written and what copy of the game they&#8217;ll have reviewed. If you want a good review but your game has bugs and other issues, for God&#8217;s sake fix them! Why risk people passing over a perfectly adequate game because of a buggy release copy that frustrates a game critic. These people play a lot of games every day and are not partial to dealing with bugs and crashes whenever they sit down to review a game.</p>
<p>The big problems with this game? Pathing was one. There were walls everywhere. There still are. That feels a bit wrong in a game with such a open looking design. If you&#8217;re skulking through the forest with a sniper rifle, it&#8217;s very odd to run into a invisible wall. Some bugs were also quite annoying. Objective points were the big one. In such confusing surroundings as rainforests, the developers obviously thought it would be a good idea to put objective markers for you to follow. Except they didn&#8217;t work properly. The player was forever strafing around a marker trying to get it to activate. Not great when you&#8217;re attempting to keep incognito.</p>

<p>Despite these quirks, I picked the game up a month or two ago and had quite an enjoyable time. The assault missions are the weakest part of the game play by far. The guns don&#8217;t feel quite right and accuracy is an issue. The AI is also quite noticeably idiotic in these levels. They run into the open, fire wildly, then get shot.</p>
<p>The sniper rifle feels good to fire, it&#8217;s accurate, and if you snag a headshot from a long way off you&#8217;re treated to a lovely little cinematic. Wonderful. Some had argued that the bullet drop is inaccurate. However, without some impressive math, I couldn&#8217;t honestly explain how they could work that out. Also, if I&#8217;m playing a game with you and all I hear is you&#8217;re nasally voice going on about how each bullet is .493304320 mm off target taking into account gravity and the Coriolis effect, we&#8217;re no longer friends. I suppose the most important thing I could say on the topic of this game is that it&#8217;s a good diversion for about five to ten hours. Any more time than that is going to be unreliable in the fun department. So according to my math, which is much simpler than those complaining about bullet physics, dictates that this game isn&#8217;t worth much more than $15.00 all told. In short, wait for a sale on D2D or Steam or wherever you purchase your games.</p>

<blockquote><p>City Interactive has set their sights on the multiplayer game-play of Sniper: Ghost Warrior with a collection of brand new screenshots illustrating all of the new multiplayer features available in their upcoming release for the Playstation 3. </p>
<p>A slew of new upgrades have upped the ante on the multiplayer experience in Sniper Ghost Warrior.  These enhancements come packed with five additional multiplayer maps, including Capture the Flag, Death Match, Team Death Match, VIP and a special hardcore mode. </p></blockquote>

<p>Anyway, I had a thought about the upcoming <em>City Interactive</em> game Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2. The first game was a bit of a failure in my eyes, and it makes me sad that they would announce a sequel in such close proximity to the original. The mechanics were great but the level design was like Super Mario, except all you had was a sniper rifle and hundreds of enemies to shoot at a fifth of the distance you would like to be shooting them at. When it comes to sniping I suddenly get very serious; sniping mechanics should allow for all the usual: windage, elevation and the Coriolis Effect (that stupid word that everyone likes to use since it was dropped in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare), but I would really like to see level design and the multiplayer get a massive overhaul.</p>

<p>Firstly, for the single player I would like to see far far less killing. I don&#8217;t want to have those stupid burst-through-the-door-and-kill-everything-in-the-room-in-five-seconds malarchy that they literally just cribbed from Call of Duty. I want to sneak past a ton of guys without shooting a single one, then get a mile from my target and line up a perfect shot. Adding a drop in co-op mode where the second player can act as your spotter would also be welcome.</p>
<p>Critically the multiplyer was total garbage in the last game. Team deathmatch: snipers only is not fun in any way, shape or form. I would like the multipleyr to be sized down considerably in the following way: Sniper Battle. Make enough sense? I&#8217;ll explain. The Sniper Battle is a fight to the death between two snipers over a vast terrain. This could be in a jungle, or an urban jungle, or some other kind of jungle. Imagine looking for your target with a bunch of NPCs acting as decoys or distractions, and you have to find and kill the other human player. Miss a shot and you leave yourself open and let the enemy know where you are. Shoot an NPC accidentally and you give away your position, adding intrigue to the fight. It would certainly have a ton more life than another CoD clone.</p>

<p>Menjadi sniper dalam game ini tidak­lah mudah. Keberadaannya tidak  boleh diketahui musuh dan teman sendiri. Apakah secara diam-diam melalui  lorong desa yang penuh sesak untuk menghindari kontak musuh atau  mencari tempat tertinggi untuk mendapatkan sudut pandang yang jelas.  Sebagai sniper, Anda sangat tidak dianjurkan untuk menyerang secara  frontal. Selain itu, Anda juga dilengkapi dengan pistol berperedam,  pisau, dan granat.</p>
<p>Yang menarik, dalam game ini, Anda akan diajak merasakan layaknya  menjadi sniper sungguhan. Tidak selamanya bidikan di kepala akan tepat  sasaran. Hal ini karena ada faktor jarak, gravitasi, dan arah angin.  Selain itu, Anda pun harus mengatur pernapasan untuk bidikan yang  stabil. Tingkat kesulitan akan bertambah jika musuh yang dibidik sambil  bergerak atau menyerang Anda.</p>

<p>Pada tingkat kesulitan mudah, sebuah titik merah menunjukkan posisi  peluru Anda  pada saat ditembakkan berdasarkan arah angin, detak  jantung, gravitasi, dan sebagainya. Pada kesulitan normal, titik ini  masih ada, namun musuh tidak diam saja dan dapat bereaksi dengan cara  yang berbeda. Pada kesulitan tingkat tinggi, objek lingkaran akan  hilang, musuh-musuh tidak berwarna merah, dan mereka bebas bergerak  selama tembakan berlangsung sehingga luput dari sasaran.</p>

<p>Dalam game ini, Anda diminta mengon­trol pasukan sniper elit yang  harus menggulingkan kediktatoran militer. Cerita yang sederhana, membuat  Anda tidak terlalu sulit  mengikuti alur game ini. Anda diminta untuk  mendaki gunung, menyelinap ke dalam pedesaan, merangkak di semak  belukar, hingga menyusuri su­ngai.­ Semua dihadirkan dengan tampilan  grafis yang indah.</p>

<p>Sepertinya City Interaktif, pengembang game ini terinspirasi dengan  Infinity Ward. Hal ini terlihat dari kontrol dan gameplay yang  menyerupai Call of Duty 4. Contohnya, saat Anda menyerbu sebuah ruangan  dan mendobrak pintu akan muncul adegan slow motion yang membuat Anda  leluasa membunuh musuh dan membebaskan tawanan. Bedanya, Health System  pada game ini tidak dapat regenerasi secara penuh.  Sistem ini akan  regenerasi jika di bawah 30 poin dan akan tetap seperti itu hingga Anda  menggunakan medkit untuk mengembalikan secara pe­nuh­. Ada satu feature  menarik, Bullet Cam, yaitu pergerakan slow motion kamera mengikuti  peluru hingga mengenai sasaran.</p>
<p>Keunikan dalam game ini, pada satu misi dari 16 misi yang ada, Anda  dapat tampil menjadi dua karakter yang berbeda. Di satu sisi, Anda akan  menjadi sniper Razor 6 untuk menga­mankan jalan. Ketika sudah aman, Anda  dapat berganti karakter menjadi pasukan serbu Delta 3 untuk membebaskan  tawanan. Tampaknya, kecerdasan musuh tidak realistis dalam game ini.  Saat Anda bersembunyi sedemikian rupa, musuh mampu melihat dan akan  menghujani tembakan kemana pun Anda bergerak. Jika saat menjadi pasukan  serbu, jangan harap teman Anda bisa membantu menyerang. Terkadang mereka  akan diam saja walaupun musuh ada di depan mata.</p>

1. What were your goals as game designers in your development of the sniper based multi-player missions?</strong></p>
<p><em>We wanted to bring the sniping experience from single player to multiplayer and at the same time amp up the stakes and the action. Snipers love to surprise their opponents and deliver precise head shots from vantage points anywhere on the map. This is exactly the experience that we wanted to give to our players &#8211; the adrenaline rush and satisfaction that comes from delivering a lethal kill in one well placed shot.</em></p>
<p><strong>2. How many maps will be in Sniper: Ghost Warrior’s multi-player?</strong></p>
<p><em>We are starting with six unique multi-player maps.  Three of the six we designed specifically for Deathmatch and the other three were designed for both Team Deathmatch and VIP modes. Each map supports a maximum 12 players in one match.</em></p>
<p><strong>3. What can players expect in a Sniper vs. Sniper match?</strong></p>
<p><em>That great feeling that you always get in a multiplayer game when as a sniper you outmaneuver, outwit and wipeout your opponent.  Plus, the tension should be enormous because one small slip-up could mean game over for you.</em><br />

4. What match types will there be?</strong></p>
<p>We are going to have three types of matches: Deathmatch, Team <em>Deathmatch and VIP mode. A cool feature in VIP mode is that the player who is the VIP will achieve bonus points for killing opponents. Players on the opposing squad can strategically go after the other team’s VIP and collect bonus points for killing this player. Alternatively they can focus on killing others who are also going after the VIP to collect additional points.</em><br />

<strong>5. Will all the matches be sniper based or will there be tactical missions as well?</strong></p>
<p><em>All the multiplayer matches are designed and intended to be exclusively sniper based. There are so many other cool games on the market where players can participate in classic tactical missions with assault rifles and other weapons. It was important to us to create a multiplayer gaming experience that is 100% sniper focused. This way, players can rely on stealth, cover and aim to take out their opponents without someone rushing them with a machine gun.</em></p>
<p><strong>6. Can you describe the maps for Sniper: Ghost Warrior’s multiplayer mode?</strong></p>
<p><em>We have a range of map sizes that have been designed to deliver a good balance of action and stealth. We think the map designs really deliver optimized gameplay and are both interesting from a terrain and environment standpoint as well as challenging from a pure gameplay standpoint.</em><br />

7. Are you creating new maps for the multi-player missions or repurposing existing ones?</strong></p>
<p><em>We went to the drawing board and designed maps specifically for multiplayer mode.  The selection of multiplayer maps for Sniper: Ghost Warrior is 90% original. There is one killer map that worked from the single player mode that we loved, so we made some adjustments so we could include it in the multiplayer action.</em></p>
<p><strong>8. Can two players play in co-op as a “Spotter &#38; Sniper” team?<br />
</strong><br />
<em>This is a question we get often. While co-op play is becoming increasingly relevant to the modern game player, we decided not to include this in multiplayer. Although spotters are an important element in real-world sniping, from a gameplay standpoint, it is way more fun for players to kill enemies by themselves then to mark targets for another player. At the top of the match, it is more fun to have a sniper rifle in your hand than having binoculars for marking targets.</em></p>
<p><strong>9. What are a few of the XBLA Achievements available to players in multiplayer?</strong></p>
<p><em>We had a lot of fun with these but let me tease you with one. We have what we call a “One shot, two kills” achievement for killing 2 enemies with one, precise headshot. Achievement is followed by cool bullet-camera animation. It was a huge hit during our E3 presentation this year! There are more achievements available and they will be revealed later.</em></p>
<p><strong>10. Are there any plans for downloadable content?</strong></p>
<p><em>Yes! We are working on some downloadable content which will be revealed in the weeks to come. </em></p></blockquote>

Then maybe you should take a look at Sniper: Ghost Warriors. No it’s not released yet, and no it doesn’t have any huge hype around it (I was surprised to hear about it myself). But IGN writer Ryan Clements have been allowed to try out the game and from what he says it sounds like this could be something cool.</p>
