I fell in love with the stunning photos from Molly Sims wedding, superbly captured by the talented Gia Canali. The model and TV star chose a private estate in California for the reception, which made the whole evening seem truly magical. This post is really picture heavy, but I just could not decide which one to choose. Enjoy!

Cruised up to the AHA Fest at the Railyard and boy, was that a good time. Hip artists, rockin’ bands, food trucks…it almost felt like Santa Fe was a big city!

Getting folks married the artsy way….had the pleasure of hosting at event at the Selby Fleetwood Gallery on Canyon Road.

Back when designing the wedding papers for Julia and Eli,  I met them at the Bride’s mothers home where they showed me the Pepper Tree where they would be married. It was decided that I should illustrate it for their wedding invitations…. So that’s just what I did.

The pepper tree printed blind on museum board, with green type and then mounted to cedar veneer… I love using cedar for weddings – it keeps the critters away from a marriage, I like to think. and it smells so nice too! not to mention the warm coloration.

And just for fun, the save the date as well.

Handmade details, a sunny June day, a lush garden setting and the GORGEOUS Claire Pettibone wedding dress made for a special day for Kellie & Alex and these amazing photos captured by Gia Canali. These photos are also featured on Once Wed Blog.

This has been making me smile since they inquired. Tiny Pine Press got a stationery feature on The Bride’s Guide: Martha Stewart Weddings!

Splendid!!

It’s  fun that my personality shines through in the written interview so if you just miss talking to me,  check out this feature. It tells the story of how Tiny Pine Press was started, and then goes into all the inspirations.

Here are a couple of the photos that were featured but check it out and look at all the pretty pictures! (thanks to Gia Canali!)

These are the carrying cases that all my samples have to fit in when I take meetings outside of the studio. I carry them around like a traveling sales lady. I think that would be a fun job… to go door to door designing personal stationery for everyone. I would certainly get a good sense of their personalities!

To get there I used hand calligraphy for print for their names and charcoal grey ink (I liked the idea of it being grey instead of black as if years had taken their toll and faded the print) with just a little bit of victorian floral embellishment… popped in my inked up press and mashed on a textured but cleanly cut stock…. et voila. It did just the trick.

When Gia Canali and I sat down to figure out her new business cards, we instantly fell in love with a few different combinations. She wanted to have something very organic and earthy feeling, but Gia’s photography really is magical, so we needed to get that in there too….

This amazing amazing tree free faux leather paper showed up…

so earthy and l0vely but not sturdy enough to make a card out of (but definitely durable enough to make an outfit from… that’s coming soon). we would have to mount it onto a thicker card.

A Super AWESOME bonus about this faux leather is that the dark brown side is pretty great, but the reverse side is a delicate soft pink color. Here begins our dilemma. We will end up using both sides.

For the cover weight base stock, we used one of my very favorite handmade papers in this muted plummy color. This is where we get our “magic”. This cottony stock is full of sparkle.

Mounted, trimmed, and printed in two runs… Gia wound up with 4 variations or so for her business cards. Isn’t that fun?!

That dress. is. AWEsome. And what is even more mind-blowing is the bride hand-crocheted every single doily in just the three weeks leading up to the elopement.  Dang, girl.  *high five!*  The whole outfit is crazy adorable too – down to the shoes she embellished with earrings (click here for more DIY shoe ideas) and the bouquet she arranged herself.  Check out 100 Layer Cake to see more pics from the ceremony ’cause that dress is downright incredible.

Well, turns out that taking good iphone photos not as easy as just paying $1.99. BUT I was able to start learning how to use my new took as I stitched this weekend.

These photos are of an invitation I am working on right now. My client wanted to have a similar look to this invitation which i designed almost 6 years ago. (I used a black and white “film” to convey the idea that this is the OLD invitation, just so you know )

This new bride is getting married near a pine forest and really loved having that visual element stitched on.

For her, we brightened up the paper a little bit, freshened up the typeface with an added script element, printed letterpress on handmade cotton paper with a slight shimmer – using a cool grey ink color and stitched in a subtle green since her wedding isn’t in the fall… (though you can’t actually tell from my old fashioned photo…… hmmm….)

Every invitation was stitched with the sewing machine but guided by my hand which definitely requires complete concentration, and lots

of tunes in the background.

Since I am quite fond of pines so the hours of stitching breezed by as I concentrated on each one and their limbs.

Obviously, some are taller than other, wider than others, etc. but together they make an elegant stitched tiny pine forest.

Molly & Jason’s Wedding Invitation by Tiny Pine Press

Hi all!

I am really excited to post these photos!!

I realize it’s been over a month since the wedding, but I finally have a couple of photos to post of Jason and Molly’s wedding invitation that we designed and produced for their February 27 nuptials.

This picture really shows off the handmade paper with the natural deckle edges. It’s 100% cotton made in the USA lovely and elegant paper, printed letterpress and then mounted to a piece of walnut… then tied with green silk thread!

Here is a pretty good peak at the envelope liner with the custom pattern we designed that was later repeated at the reception on the wedding cake (by our friends, Vanilla Bake Shop)  and muslin escort card card bags that we printed…

and here is a photo of the walnut backing attached to a tree in the backyard outside my studio. This just makes me smile. I hope it is as inspiring to you!

I am going to try to get Gia Canali to take pictures of invitations for me every day!! I know she is too busy for that… but I could just park myself at her studio and see what happens….  not only is she super FUN to  work with, she is just so talented… Thanks Gia!!

Here are just a few from our most recent afternoon of picture clicking.

There is even a THEME! All of these incorporate the wonderfully naturally scented cedar wood veneer.

The top one is a little program that has stitched wood front and back cover – with white pages in the middle… so sweet!

To the right here is a lovely invitation that has a cedar border – you can sort of see it on the edges. The drawn tree is actually based on a pepper tree, but cedar is such a lovely shade for a backyard wedding…. it’s all about the trees!

And to the bottom here is a save the date printed on cedar with a little photo of Big Sur printed on recycled paper and attached to the side for a little peak into that wonderful landscape.

Gia’s husband Matt was lugging 3 or 4 heavy camera’s along because this was to be a photo shoot. I haven’t ever had my pictures taken professionally before so I didn’t think it at all peculiar that we would take a hike….

I was uncomfortable as Gia started clicking the cameras… apparently I am a “blinker”… and the more we hiked along the trail, the more relaxed (and probably sweaty) I got.

We got to the last bit of light that day and I tied on my printing apron that I carried with me up the hill. Gia got out her big old lovely 4×5 camera and loaded some polaroid film. I instantly felt in my element… In front of a BIG tree, as the sun was setting, with the mountains behind me… I was wearing my work out fit and I was comfortable.

Gia took the picture and promptly starting doing some magic work on the film and a couple of days later, she emailed this to me. Everything combined created an antique photo of me…. making me look as if I was a printer plucked from the turn of the century… (the 1900′s)

Now I can’t help but post this picture everywhere… I feel like she was able to capture me and then somehow with her chemical processes, Gia produced this vintage looking version of me.

So, all of that was to say… Gia sure does know how to make a picture. Literally….

Thank goodness for Gia Canali and her pretty pictures. And to Yifat Oren for styling (and planning) so so beautifully. I love it when our collaborations get some attention. Its so nice….

My only woe about the wedding is that they didn’t need an onsite stationer in the Turks and Caicos. But alas, I had to stay home on that one…

I have been so busy catching up with my day job at tiny pine that I neglected my blog responsibilities (for silly tea parties and episodes of Madmen) to post images from the super fun party at Urbanic Paper Boutique last week… (Fortunately Audrey at Parcel Post and Gia Canali were more diligent with their blogging)

In preparation for the party and because it was at a store, I created a bunch of stationery to sell there that night. It kind of makes me feel like I should open an etsy shop.. that’s next on the to do list!!

It really isn’t my normal style to solicit attention, but when I delivered the album to Urbanic and Audrey thought to combine the Abbott Kinney First Fridays event with the Launch of the Variations collection, then I had to agree… I mean, I couldn’t resist a chance to have some amazing music, yummy snacks AND a really cool Project Social (as they like to call it there at Urbanic when they make crafties on the back patio)

The Tiny Pine sponsored the project social – mix CD sleeves for someone you love or like…. I had a bunch of leftover sheets die cut and pre-glued… I brought a bunch of myleftover materials (leaves, flowers, rhinestones, rubberstamps) to combine with Urbanic’s pile for all the visitors to create their little works of art.

Anyways, that night was really fun. Lots of friends came out to support me and I am very grateful for to them -

Particularly Cheryl & Angelo Catering for creating the yummiest snacks and to DJ’s John & Jeremy- for spinning the music that everyone used as inspiration for the cd sleeves…. also they stayed til the very end, which led to me getting my groove on after everyone had left…

It was actually really fun to do the interview. I did fell a little funny that my answers would be on the internet but I then i realized that I am already talking on the internet…. so I must be a little bit entertaining if YOU are reading this right now? right? Hopefully I can come across sort of knowledgeable too! (Don’t tell me any differently, please!)

I was a little surprised when I read back over my answers in some spots… particularly the Ugly Betty comments – you will have to read her blog to know what I am referring to – because I had just seen an episode a couple of days before and I felt maybe that I was misinformed about soy inks, or that the writers didn’t research very well… I think it was the latter.

I loved talking about Verdie, my press, and I think I come off a little more chatty than I am on this blog about myself…. if you can imagine that. It’s easier sometimes to answer questions than to just make up what you want to say……..

But enough about me and Tiny Pine, let’s talk about GIA! She is a great photographer. We have both been apart of a couple of weddings as the vendors. She is super organic in her style and aesthetic. She uses both film and digital photography (kind of like how I use letterpress and laser or inkjet) and she does a variety of printing processes and treats her photos in lovely ways. I think we are sort of fraternal twins, maybe. We come from the same place but we do different things. (We were just talking on the phone about how we both are from the country and mountains and if that comes across in our work…)

Anyways…. I am so glad she decided to feature me in her blog…. I will do the same for my fraternal twin… Gia Canali is great. take a look at her site!
