What was once a mining town predated by the Anasazi and Apache Indians (now which make up a mere 1.45 % of the population) is now a vibrant artsy and outdoorsy town of a modest 10,000 some odd residents. It had a good, vibrant feel with the sun out and murals and Main Street painted bright.

Billy the Kid himself was arrested twice in Silver City for theft back in the days when it was just a bustling tent city full of miners and thieves alike trying to strike it rich.I found a shop around a corner and started thawing. It was run by a greying man with long braided hair that seemed to have found his niche of realizing a dream.

After catching up I needed to catch up on lost time. The Gila Cliff Dwellings, the purpose for this visit to Silver City were still a long 44 miles away on the 15- a narrow, harrowing road climbing up to nearly 10,000 that looks over the Gila Wilderness Area- a series of forests, canyons, meandering rivers and valleys and mountains of cacti, pinons, cottonwoods, junipers, ponderosa pines and even doug firs. All of these plants would prove to be useful in a mulititude of ways for the Indians that lived here. Nature provides everything we need to survive. Medicine, fuel, food, buiding materials and tools are ubiquitous anytime we step out the door. Time, experience and ancestral knowledge turned the landscape from a thing of beauty to a land rich in important resources for survival.

Crops of squash, corn and beans were once the staples grown here along the river. The rest of their lives subsisted on wild plants, 24 of which have been found in the dwellings. including wild grapes, berries, acorns and pinon nuts.A short path of about a half a miles takes you over the river and through the woods to the cliffs formed from collapsed volcanoes and later undercutting from the creek below, seeping into the rock  and weakening it , creating and enlarging the alcoves over time. Approaching the cliffs is magical and breathtaking.

There is a series of 7 caves built within the natural cliff dating back over 700 years, though evidence of people living in this area goes back to year 550. Fire pits have left soot residue on the ceiling, different sized rooms and chambers hint to unique uses such as ceremonies, living quarters and shelter, and hearths and pits remain evident to even the untrained eye.

I found myself completley entranced with this place. I am transfixed by the idea of living off the land and to see the dwellings in person allowed me to visualize it with a new intensity. Hearing the stream meant more than the tranquil sight and sound, it meant a food and life source. It meant irrigation, washing, drinking and cooking. The soot marks on the ceiling illicited feelings of warmth and community. The trees meant fruit, baskets and tools. The cliffs allowed plenty of light, would retain warmth but keep cool.

It was the perfect place to house a community and did for hundreds of years. Many generations would pass their knowledge of which plants can be harvested for medicine and how and when to collect their fruits, how to turn a hard substance into grain. There are faint decorations on the wall still visible but barely that lend to the imagination a tradition of stories, art, and songs of a rich culture.

I wanted to live in a cave, fish from that stream and hunt the top of the mesa. I wanted to grow my own corn and pound it into tortillas. I wanted to pick pinon nuts and roast them over a communal fire. It seems a magical life, one without the distractions of today- when life was survival and survival was life. But it was undoubtedly a harsh life with its own problems though who knows how long it would have remained if they had not been invaded, pushed out and drawn into a relentless battle? Geronimo, born at the headwaters of the Gila River in this very area was to fight the last of the battles centuries after these cliffs had been abandoned.

For 10,000 years people have used this resource rich floodplain as a traveling corridor along the 3 forks of the Gila River. I and the others here were no exception, though the benefits of the area are different now. Whereas the river provided necessities now it provides a glimpse into the past, what once was and what still may be. It is a lesson in history and in subsistence, in a respect for the land and our fellow man. I loved it here but Santa Fe beckoned and the road down is twice as steep and the curves just as tight. I stopped for tea at the top of the last pass down the other side and took it all in as I let the color go back into my knuckles and the green wash from my face back onto the earth. The sky shined bright, the blue a reflection of hope and truth and the tea a reminder to take life one curve at a time, to not rush the beauty but embrace it, to enjoy the journey because it is better than the inn.

Kadang tersenyum, tertawa. Kadang menangis sesenggukan…

Kamu ramah kepada siapa saja, walau kadang tampangmu yang dekil kotor bikin jijik, namun sebenarnya kamu adalah manusia no problema…

Orang gila meniti waktu tanpa mengeluh, menantang panas matahari tanpa pernah mencaci.

Orang gila tertawa di tengah hiruk pikuk manusia normal yang congkak.

Orang gila tak pernah meratap dalam duka nestapa yang dijalaninya, acuh. Seolah mereka tahu ada malaikat penjaga yang mengiringi langkahnya.

Orang gila di seluruh nusantara… Apa khabar!!!

II. Berani Bermimpi
Kata Eleanor Roosevelt “masa depan dimiliki oleh orang-orang yang percaya pada keindahan mimpi-mimpi mereka.”
Tanggal 25 Mei 1961, adalah hari paling bersejarah bagi Presiden Amerika John F. Kennedy. Hari itu di hadapan kongres, Kennedy menyampaikan impiannya. “ Saya percaya bangsa ini akan berkomitmen untuk mencapai cita-citanya sebelum dasawarsa ini berakhir. Yaitu mendaratkan manusia di bulan, dan mengembalikannya dengan selamat ke bumi,” katanya dengan mantap. Reaksipun bermunculan. Ada yang mengatakan mustahil, gila, sampai abnormal. Bahkan Badan Luar Angkasa Amerika (NASA) mengatakan, impian ini tidak mungkin terwujud, karena tidak ada teknologi yang menunjangnya. Menurut NASA, bisa jadi teknologi ini tidak pernah ditemukan. Impossible!
Delapan tahun kemudian, tepatnya 16 Juli 1969, Apollo 11 memulai perjalanannya ke bulan, sejauh 245.000 mil dari Kennedy Space Center. Empat hari kemudian, Apollo 11 berhasil mendarat di bulan. Sejarah pun mencatat Neil Armstrong sebagai manusia pertama yang menginjakkan kakinya di bulan. Kalimat yang pertama kali keluar dari mulut Armstrong ketika itu, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Impian yang tadinya dianggap khayalan, telah menggoreskan tinta sejarah di sepanjang kehidupan manusia.
Seperti yang dikatakan Armstrong, “ ini langkah kecil bagi manusia, tetapi merupakan langkah besar bagi umat besar bagi umat manusia”, mimpi mungkin di anggap kecil bagi sebagian besar orang. Namun dari yang kecil itulah bisa tercipta sesuatu yang luar biasa. Saat kita memiliki impan, kita sedang mengawali sebuah perjalanan. Ketika tiba di ujung jalan, akan ditemukan bahwa inilah kehidupan yang menjadi impian kita. Impian mengawali perjalanan menuju sukses. Masalahnya, bagaimana wewujudkan mimpi kalau kita sendiri tidak memiliki mimpi?
Yakin sekali kalau semua orang pasti bermimpi. Yakin juga kalau ada di antara kita di juluki “si pemimpi berat”. Makanya bukan sesuatu yang aneh, kalau hal terhebat yang bisa dilakukan manusia dalam hidupnya adalah menciptakan impian.
Bermimpilah sebanyak-banyaknya ketika anda tidur, tetapi segeralah bangun untuk mewujudkan mimpi tersebut. Kalau anda masih terus tidur, berarti anda benar-benar sedang bermimpi.
Lalu mimpi seperti apa yang memiliki kuasa, hingga mampu menggerakkan kita untuk tetap mempertahankannya, dan bekerja keras untuk mewujudkannya, serta berani menghadapi kendala?
Mimpi jadikan sebagai kompas
Anda memerlukan sesuatu yang berarti untuk di tuju sesuatu yang dapat dijadikan kompas agar tidak berjalan tanpa tujuan, sesuatu itu adalah mimpi. Mimpi yang bekerja sebagai penunjuk, memberi tahu arah yang harus dituju, seperti inilah orang-orang sukses melakukannya. Mengawalinya dengan menjadikan mimpi-mimpi mereka sebagai kompas bagi keberhasilan hidupnya.
Memang tidak semua mimpi menjadi kenyataan. Tapi semua kenyataan diawali oleh sebuah mimpi. Anda memiliki impian? Jadikan itu sebagai kompas. Karena jika kita bergerak kearah yang bukan mimpi kita, kita akan sulit untuk mewujudkan mimpi menjadi kenyataan.

IV. DOA
Do’a berarti permintaan atau permohonan, yaitu permohonan manusia kepada Allah untuk mendapatkan kebaikan dunia dan keselamatan di akherat. Do’a merupakan kesempatan manusia mencurahkan hatinya kepada Allah, menyatakan kerinduan, ketakutan dan kebutuhan manusia kepada Allah.
Alexis Carre (filsuf) dalam La Priere-nya mengatakan : “Pengabdian do’a dan tatacaranya adalah pertanda kehancuran suatu bangsa. Masyarakat yang mengabaikan do’a adalah masyarakat yang berada di ambang kehancuran.”
Kekuatan do’a adalah mengantarkan ikhtiar kepada kemudahan dan keberhasilan, karena manusia memiliki keterbatasan, maka segala sesuatu kita mohon bantuan kepada Allah untuk melancarkan segala usaha kita.

Specialized dan McLaren serius dalam mengembangkan project membangun sebuah sepeda Aero Road. Kedua perusahaan besar itu berkolaborasi menghasilkan sebuah sebuah sepeda balap (road bike) dengan nama SPECIALIZED MCLAREN VENGE AERO ROAD BIKE. 2 Tipe Aero Road siap dihadirkan di lintasan Pro Tour.

Mark Cavendish Sprinter HTC-Highroad mencoba sepeda ini diajang Milan-San Remo 2011.

SPECIALIZED MCLAREN VENGE AERO ROAD BIKE, merupakan sepeda balap (roadbike) produk terbaru specialized. Project yang dikerjakan hampir sembilan bulan oleh dua perusahaan besar yang berbeda aliran.

Kesan pertama VENGE AERO ROAD BIKE ditampilkan sama seperti sepeda Aero Road pada umumnya, tampilan yang ringkas, efisien dan tipis, Internal Cable Routing, frame dan yang terkesan sangat tipis yang mampu membelah angin.

Specialized McLaren Venge sebenarnya merupakan pengembangan dari Specialized Transition. Sebuah Sepeda Time Trial yang sudah tergantikan oleh Specialized Shiv.

Aerodinamic Frame mungkin adalah kata yang tepat untuk sepeda terbaru specialized ini. Secara fisik hampir mengadopsi Specialized Transition dengan penambahan Dropbar di bagian kokpit.

Specialized mambandingkan dengan sepeda road mereka yang saat ini masih beredar dipasaran yaitu Tarmac SL3.
Vengen mampu menghemat power yang dikeluarkan pembalap. 3W (watt) di 20km / h menjadi 23W di 45km/h, dan tentunya sangat menguntungkan bagi seorang Mark Cavendish yang mampu melakukan sprint 70 km / jam.

The S-Works Venge telah beredar di Inggris (UK) pada bulan April, The McLaren Venge dibandrol denga harga £5,000 untuk frameset dan forks.

Bagian headtube mengalami modifikasi total, bagian tersebut dikerjakan langsung oleh para teknisi McLaren, frame diklaim tetap stif (kaku) meskipun mengalami perombakan total dibandingkan dengan Tarmac SL3.

Bahan Carbon Frame langsung ditangani oleh pihak McLaren, yang tentunya lebih expert karena mereka mengembangkan body mobil Formula One mereka yang dituntut sebar Aerodinamis namun tetap aman dan stabil.

Tingkat Stiffnes Venge mencapai 89.7 (Nm / deg), Tarmac SL3 124,3 (Nm / deg) stiff tapi bukan aeroroad. FELT AR1 2011 56,4 (Nm / deg) / kg, specialized memberikan data tersebut sebagai perbandingan.

Another one of our leatherbacks is closing in on a nesting beach! Red Rockette is just off the coast of the Panama—Colombia border. She does not have a recorded nesting history, so it is too early to call where she will end up. There are five beaches in contention right now: Armila in Panama; and Acandí, Capitancito, Playeta, and Playona in Colombia.

We have had a Canadian turtle found at Playona in Colombia before with the help of local people working there from Grupo GILA. That turtle was wearing a satellite transmitter, which they got back for us! We’ve got our fingers crossed that the same thing will happen with Red Rockette.

These beaches are in remote areas of these countries, some accessible just by boat and others without easy access to Internet or phones. We want to make sure that the local environmental groups and local community members know to look for our leatherback on the beach.

Again, the international sea turtle community is swinging into gear: scientists, environmental groups, government biologists, and local people in areas near the nesting beaches are all helping out. I can’t say enough good things about how helpful sea turtle people are.

At this point we don’t know when or where specifically Red Rockette will nest. “We don’t have a good understanding of pre-nesting behaviour,” explains Canadian sea turtle expert, Dr. Mike James. “Right now Red Rockette is swimming quickly and purposefully. She may slow down soon and stop just off her beach. But, it’s very early in the nesting season still. It could be a few weeks before she begins nesting…or it could be much sooner.”
