Mark Fast, the Canadian wunderkind knits designer who made a splash at London Fashion Week for using size 14 models, has been shortlisted for the Swarovski Emerging Talent Award for Ready to Wear.  Every year, the British Fashion Council recognizes an influential and directional designer who is emerging as an influential force in British Fashion.  Previous winners include Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Louise Goldin, and Antonio Berardi

Mark designs by hand on a domestic knitting machine. His work is formed onto the body as he knits, and he has devised innovative stitching techniques, blending lycra with viscose, angora or wool. He is inspired by the endless possibilities of lycra yarns, sculpting areas of tension and areas of volume over the body. Mark’s fascination with the cinema drives his creative process as he channels the energy of the characters who inspire him into his knits. Obsessed with texture, Mark’s most recent work explores the relationship of garments to the wearers body.

To draw focus to the draping, density and volume of the dresses as they relate to women’s bodies and to challenge traditional notions of fit and idealized body shape, Mark bucked tradition and used size 14 models in his SS10 runway show, causing an uproar at London Fashion Week.   To qurote Mark from a recent interview in Sunday Times Style, “Knits have a more intimate relationship with the wearer than tailoring or corsetry. The garment takes on the shape of the person inside it, and the finished look is always a collaboration between the two.”

Mark Fast will be available starting December at Curve LA and NY.

We’ve been keeping an eye on Cheryl’s X-Factor look for a while now and we’re sure you’ll agree she’s doing very well at keeping her reputation as a style icon.

She looked stunning in her custom made Giles Deacon pink bodycon dress, which fitted into the WHAM! theme night perfectly and would look great as a Christmas outfit.

She also bought home the Minnie Mouse bow look, sported by many a celeb back in the 80s.

The X Factor judge opted for girly-coloured frocks for both the Saturday and Sunday night shows.

I’m in the half that loves the dress which Cheryl chose to wear, which happens to be from Giles’ Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. The pale pink tutu style dress was just a good bit of fun, although I’m not sure I’d have teamed it with the black patent ankle boots and the massive bow on her head!

Possibly the hottest designer around right now, Giles is presenting us with some very wearable fashions right now – not the usual design show ‘Who in their right mind would wear that?’ stuff that so many others put on the catwalk. Giles also told us all a few days ago that he will continue to show his ready to wear collections on the Paris catwalks – ah well, it’s an excuse to visit the beautiful city!

Meanwhile, what will Cheryl and Dannii pull out of the bag tonight?

Cheryl Cole looked just peachy last night in a hit mini-dress made for her by Brit designer Giles Deacon. She teamed the £1,500 tutu with a Minnie Mouse-style hair bow, but there was certainly nothing mousey about the X Factor judge…

Okay, I know that Paris Fashion Week ended a couple of weeks ago, but it took me a while to look at all of the shows because (1) They are so fabulous and (2) There are so many!  The designers showing in Paris definately kept the standard of the being the best.  I was absolutely blown away by some of the shows and there were an impressive amount of collections where I loved every piece (Chanel, Tsumori Chisato, Givenchy, Rue du Mail, Valentino, Isabel Marant….to name a few).  AMAZING.  Anyway, there were many pieces that represented the trends that I’ve mentioned in the past few posts, but there were also a couple new looks that I will talk about as well.  But for the most part, for the Paris collections, anything goes!  I saw some pieces that were super structured, some that were relaxed, some pleated, some tight, bright colors, dark neturals and everything in between!  Here are some examples of what I thought were the best:

Trend: Cute Minis

Just like the rest, these are from the designers’ Spring line, but these cute little numbers are easily layered and totally in for the Fall!

Trend: Grecian Inspired Draping

This look is so flattering and serves as a great palate to add layers.

Trend: Metallics

This look wasn’t as flashy or abundant on the Paris runways, but it definitely still had a presence!

Trend: Jumpsuits & Rompers

These pieces are so easy to wear right now.  They are perfect with tights, a cardigan and a great belt!

Trend: Asymmetric

Trend: Ruffles & Bows

Lots and lots of ruffles!

Staple: Cool Jackets

Especially now, a unique jacket really makes an outfit pop.  Check these out for inspiration:

Staple: Cute Shorts

Ultra-feminine and comfortable, enough said!  Flowy shorts are perfect to pair with patterned tights when it gets a bit chilly.

Staple: White Suit

Classic, chic & never goes out of style.

Styling Trend: Strong v. Feminine

Balance any outfit with this technique!  In Paris, it was mostly used with draping.

Styling Trend: Mixing Prints

Can be tricky, but take a few pointers from Dries Van Noten; the majority of their looks were compiled of patterned layers.

New Trend: Relaxed Pants

Whereas we saw a lot of Harem cut pants on the other runways, in Paris the entire pant leg was relaxed.  But designers also used lux, flowy fabrics, to make these comfortable pieces still luxurious, chic, and ready for a night on the town.  Some are still tailored, but others remind me of a genie pant! (in a good way!)

New Trend: Tuxedo-Inspired

There were a large amount of pieces on the Paris runways that seemed to be inspired by the tuxedo.  Whether the focus is on the lapel, cumberbund, bowtie, dickey, or simply the jacket, these pieces are a great way to dress up a casual outfit.

New Trend: Textures

What’s a great way to amp up some of your pieces? Look for ones that are more than two dimensional!  Textures add a unique dynamic to your every-day outfit.  Not sure where to start?  This is a great time to get textural sweaters, a fun, textured shirt to wear under a cardigan, a furry vest, or even something as simple as a quilted accesory.

Cadbury’s have seduced fickle-fashionista’s setting boutique blogs alight with a savvy pop-up shop online campaign that sees an unlikely collaboration between designer guru Giles Deacon and the (oddly) unnamed Cadbury’s Caramel Bunny, the most iconic rabbit since Playboy launched the bunny girls upon us.

A free scarf designed by Giles, inspired and adorned by the hirsute hare (is body fluff back in yet? If so I’m set! ), is available from Nibbles Boutique’s which pop up online for limited periods on various social network, blogs and partners sites. The scarf design features elements of the Caramel Bunny and a motif for fashion Targets Breast Cancer UK.

As part of the viuasl for the campaign to promote Caramel Nibbles, Giles has also designed a tulip dress for the raunchy rabbit unfortunatele not yet available for Bunny’s adoring followers. However, the scarf will be on sale at John Lewis soon with proceeds going to the breast cancer charity.

What next, Jessica Rabbit as bondage bunny muse for Alexender McQueen? Maybe that’s one fashion fantasy too far!

Keep your nose to the social media stomping ground for clues, as these limited scarves are only available through the World’s first digital pop-up shop, which will pop up on numerous fashion blogs this Friday.

Teaming the Cadbury’s brand with the mighty Giles Deacon and creating a limited edition product, is bound to generate a buzz around Caramel nibbles. Not being able to queue up for the scarf (I’m thinking Jimmy Choo for H and M in a few weeks) is going to engage the audience. Turning it into a fashion blog treasure hunt- genius!

So praise to Cadbury’s for realising that integrating Social Media and ‘Traditional Marketing’ is the way forward.

Last night Lu, John and I went to the Cadbury’s with Giles Deacon launch of the new Caramel treat Nibbles and I think it’s fair to say we got, just a little, carried away. As you can see from the picture above we may have taken a few too many bags of chocolate away with us. In fact probably enough to keep us full until well after Christmas and to ruin any plans I had of toning up in time for the seasons festivities.

Not content with the rave reviews he got at Paris Fashion Week for his Spring/Summer ‘10 line, Giles Deacon has designed a dress for the infamous Cadbury’s Bunny as well as a special addition scarf (which I’m expecting myself and Lu to be busting on matching days over the coming months), which goes on sale in John Lewis for £15 on 26th October.

Last nights shinanigans have lead to some sore heads today and paved the way for giggling at inappropriate moments during this mornings meetings so I’m officially on a alcohol and chocolate detox until at least tomorrow.

Cadbury’s who brought back the “Caramel Bunny” earlier this year has collaborated with none other than Giles Deacon to create a bespoke dress for the a new print campaign that will run nationally across the UK. Ms. Bunny is named the 3rd sexiest cartoon character ever behind Jessica Rabbit and Betty Boop.

old stuff

Well the time has come to offer my last (apart from one about shoes!) post on fashion month. I feel quite emotional (fake sob!). There have been highs and lo…….anyway. We begin the end with Miu Miu , I have a soft spot for Miu Miu as it was a pair of their mary-jane shoes that made me fall in love with fashion all over again. Ahhhhh….I love Miu Miu (I used to pronounce it mweee, mweee, instead of myou, myou , I frenchified it!).

Next it’s Kenzo. I was drawn in by the colours in this show, looooove the turquoise,loooooove the purple.

John Galliano lets loose on his own line with all sorts of gothic wonders.The make-up is amazing aswell.

I was suprised at how much I liked the show by Wunderkind. It reminded me a bit of Basso & Brooke with the patterns. Check out those patterned tights/leggings – I want me a pair of those.

And so we end with Giles, he was one of the last to show at Paris Fashion Week and it was worth the wait. It was chic yet had that gothic edge to it. I want that blue spider dress… and maybe the silver suit…and the orange spider dress and the…..

Giles Deacon closed Paris Fashion Week yesterday.

British designer Giles Deacon – who won France’s 160,000 euro National Association for the Development of the Fashion Arts (ANDAM) award this year – delighted onlookers with a series of wearable, yet fashion-forward looks.

He explained: “I wanted to do obtainable clothes that are much more real life.”

Socialite Daphne Guinness was Giles’ muse, and opened and closed the show.

The collection featured daytime clothes as well as evening wear.

Spider motifs were a big look with one sleeveless cocktail dress in blue/green silk featuring an arachnid print laid over the top.

Other key pieces included a puffball mini-dress and a gold skirt suit.

Lemon, pink and orange corset dresses and pink and gold shift dresses were all offered as evening looks.

The key trend for footwear was kitten heels, while bags were made to look like dinosaurs.
Giles said: “I started from the feet – a new look with new shoe proportions.”

This is the first year Giles has shown in the French capital, having previously debuted his collection at London Fashion Week.

He explained: “I didn’t mind missing London Fashion Week this year because I was in Paris. The thing with fashion week is that we’re always working. I heard there were some great shows though, and that it was a really buoyant event.”
