Back when my mom worked part time, I used to watch All My Children with my mom during lunch.  One of the characters–Palmer I think it was–had a cool wood-paneled library.  He also had a huge globe that was actually a bar; it opened up at the equator.  That was the coolest thing EVAR, next to the hidden passageways in Adam’s house.  I don’t really want a globe-bar nowadays (though that would be sweet), but I love the look of black globes.  Every so often one of the antique stores near my house has one in the window.  (Image from Apartment Therapy)

Now how about a mind-controlled game that Nintendo is proposing? T3 gives a little clue that all you have is a headset accessory that uses brainwaves to control characters and features immersing in-ear headphones. So just imagine a streamlined Wii emote with just one button, which you point and press and rest your brain takes over. Though brain-wave technology has already become a reality with Emotive pioneering in-game systems, but soon it seems Nintendo will come out with the first mind-controlled console on the market.

I’m all for variety. Made a mini-duffel between last night and this morning:

Rice Society Mini-Duffel

Got the idea from Threadbanger, recycling old umbrellas. Since I already had some nylon and waterproof fabric, I made it with that. It has a outside pocket on both sides and the zipper pull is a dog tag. The inside has black lining.

Cresencio came over last night and helped me cut it out.

There were some issues with the print, as the other side is rubber and completely waterproof. My sewing machine didn’t like that one bit, so I sandwiched it with black lining and was able to put it through the Juki Baby and my serger without any problems. The straps are long enough to go over your shoulder and for your hand to reach the pockets and the zipper comfortably. I also used the eye part of a hook and eye as a zipper stop. I love it with the white mesh!

It’s going to be available at HuaShan, for $1500. It takes forever to make, lots of seams and pieces and cutting. But it’s all serged to perfection, and your stuff will be dry inside – we know it’s gonna rain all winter!

Geez, everything I make I want, so I have to make duplicates of everything! The best thing about buying my stuff is that you know I made it with love and care and attention to detail, and not many other people are gonna have the same one!

As in, “We want somebody else to give us Green Jobs, Now. (No, we aren’t offering anything in return, why do you ask?)”

 * The vegatable oil powered bus smelled like french fries.  I didn’t get too close to the passengers, but I’m gonna guess they smelled significantly less pleasant.

A l’occasion du 14 juillet, un concert a eu lieu la veille au parc des sports à Roubaix. Lors de cette soirée le groupe ABBA Fever (formé de 4 Allemands et leurs musiciens) a enflammé la scène en reprenant une grande majorité des titres qui ont fait le succès du groupe mythique des années 70.

Ci-dessus les titres Dancing Queen, Gimme Gimme, Voulez-vous, Mamma Mia et celui qui leur a permis de gagner l’eurovision: Waterloo!!

La soirée fut riche en nostalgie et le public a vibré au rythme des chorégraphies entrainantes menées par les deux chanteuses du groupe.

Serait-ce le grand retour des années 70??

You can marry rich in four weeks flat, ladies – with tips from women who’ve done it.

She's got her sights set on a rich guy. You can marry one, too - if you make a plan.

And these gals weren’t rich and connected to begin with. Many of them were dirt-poor nobodies like lots of other women who dream of  getting access to a millionaire’s heart … and bank account.

But rather than just fantasize about hooking a big fish, they worked up a plan and went out caught one.

And now they’re living on Easy Street, where the toughest thing they have to do each day is figure out which designer dress to slip into – and what kind of cocktails they’d like to slurp while lounging around their swimming pool.

“You can marry rich, and you can marry rich fast — I did,” chortles Maryanne Gates-Kennedy, author of the exciting new book, Marry Rich, Marry Fast, (Perquisite Press, Dallas, Texas, $17.95).

“You have to be a little bit aggressive and brazen.

“But once you get over that hump, you’re on your way to the life of luxury and leisure you’ve always dreamed about, on the arm of a millionaire.”

Smith-Kennedy’s book is based on interviews with 50 women who married rich and are now, in her words, “living happily ever after.”

Here, from the book, are her Top 4 Guerilla Tips for Marrying Rich in Four Weeks Flat.

Be forewarned – Gates-Kennedy’s tips are brutally frank:

1. Sever ties with your poor and middle-class friends and relatives and start calling yourself by a fancy new “million-dollar name.” You’ll never marry rich introducing yourself to people as “Martha Fink” or “Hortense Pigg.”

But “Margaret Rockefeller Kennedy Kingsley” is a moniker that will get you noticed.

2. Find out where rich men hang out and get over there now. If the hot spot in your home town is a country club and you aren’t a member, sneak in.

In large cities, you’ll have many venues to choose from regardless of your low station in life. Theaters and opera houses are good places to start. Because you’ll soon be rich, don’t worry about buying expensive tickets with your credit cards.

Rich men also frequent gambling towns like Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Feel free to go there yourself and don’t be afraid to blow your life savings on a plane ticket and your wagering.

3. Once you’ve gotten close to rich men, spring into action. With just four weeks to get hitched and get rich, you’ll have to make snap decisions — and act on them without hesitation or remorse.

If you’re slender and attractive, wear short skirts – and don’t be afraid to drop things and bend over a lot.

If you’re uncomfortable “showcasing your money-maker” in public, by all means, get drunk and lose your inhibitions.

If you don’t look good in sexy clothes, one of the best ways to get a millionaire’s attention, Gates-Kennedy writes in her book, “is to crawl under a table and ‘accidentally’ get tangled in his zipper.”

4. Once you’ve got a man interested, lure him to bed. Many millionaires are suckers for lusty sex and lots of it. And even if you don’t go in for it yourself, you can flirt and tease and act like you do.

Once in the sack, you’ll have to deliver something. Since this might be your only chance to win your prospective hubby’s heart, pull out the stops and don’t let up until he’s speaking in tongues.

It’s perfectly acceptable for you to ask for his hand in marriage before he regains his senses. This techniques works especially well with gentlemen in their 70s and 80s.

Other rich guys – especially those who inherited their wealth from a cruel and  domineering father – are afraid of women and inexperienced in the bedroom. Take it upon yourself to make these men feel manly and macho between the sheets while you pretend to be even less experienced than they are.

Feed their egos and in the afterglow of a love session, don’t be shy about saying something like, “We’re obviously soul mates – let’s fly to Mexico and make it legal now!” 

Don’t worry about minor annoyances like marriage licenses and blood tests and, if he’s already married, a pesky divorce. Remember: Your guy is rich – he can get around all that by spreading around some of his cash.

“If you move quickly and with intent, you really can marry rich in just four weeks – and change your life forever,” Gates-Kennedy says.

At least 60 people in 14 states and the District of Columbia are claiming to have won lottery jackpots ranging from $500 to $500,000 after looking at a lucky “messiah photograph” of President Barack Obama that has the word “believe” emblazoned on his forehead.

“I won! I won! Barack brought me good luck,” said Rhonda Jackson-Gonzales, 57, of Miami, Florida (left).

“I looked at his picture and said a prayer asking to win lottery money so I can stop working and take care of my elderly mother.

“Two days later, I hit the jackpot on the Georgia lottery that my sister plays for me. It wasn’t the big jackpot, but it’s enough to help me with Mama.

“The payout was $120,000 and I still have almost $70,000 after taxes. That’s all I needed and more.”

Jackson’s story is one that happy men and women in  North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Washington State, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Washington, D.C. are saying mirrors their own.

In each instance, they claim to have gazed into the president’s mesmerizing, and – some are saying, “messiah’s” – eyes for three minutes, allowing their vision to blur and thoughts to wonder while they take in the subliminal “Believe” message in white type on his forehead.

“I heard that people in my church were doing it and the were winning lottery money,” said Robert White, of Dallas, Texas (below left).

“I went on the Internet and looked at the picture and after a couple of minutes, I saw six numbers in my head. “I used them with the lottery and I won $6,300. That money kept me from losing my house because it was just about in foreclosure.

President Obama stimulated this man's bank account - as if by magic or a miracle.

“But here’s what’s even better. Three days later I found a new job that pays a little more than my last job did. My old company went out of business last fall and I hadn’t been able to find work anywhere – until now.”

Reports appearing in local newspapers and TV newscasts and also on the Internet indicate that the number of people who are claiming lottery wins and other forms of financial good fortune after they have studied the photograph exceeds  60 as of April 25.

This includes an aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, a Washington radio station has confirmed.

And now that the word is getting out, and more people are looking at the photograph, those numbers easily could swell into the hundreds, thousands, or, as Jackson-Gonzales puts it, “millions.”

 ”Everybody who believes will be helped – everybody,” she continued. “I am a devout Christian and I know that God has sent Barack Obama to help everyone who believes.

 ”I believe in Jesus Christ, and I know in my heart he is back on earth. But this time his name is Barack and he’s set up his headquarters in the White House.

“He is preparing the world for the New Jerusalem and Heaven on Earth and all of God’s people will be rewarded.”
