The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has announced UFC Sereies 1 of their Round 5 MMA figurines which will be available at Toys “R” Us for the Christmas holiday.

Initially announced in September, the new line of figurines will include UFC Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida, former light heavyweight champions Chuck Liddell and Rashad Evans, and belt contenders Kenny Florian and Clay Guida.

The figurines will be available for purchase in North America in the beginning of January.

Previous figurines included Cung Le, Gina Carano, Andrei Arlovski, referee “Big” John McCarthy, Frank Mir, Anotnio Rodrigo Nogueira, Rich Franklin, Matt Hughes, Quinton “Rampage Jackson”, Tito Ortiz, Sean Sherk, Anderson Silva, and Wanderlei Silva.

Dana White would have you believe that nothing in MMA exists outside of the UFC.  He has crushed every rival promotion that dare attempt to take a slice of the MMA pie.  Little experience and overspending have exhausted upstart promotions such as Elite XC and Affliction, but in Strikeforce/M-1 Global the UFC will see that this telecast will be different.

White knows it too.  He’s countering Strikeforce’s card with his own collaboration broadcast of main event fights from recent pay-per-view events.  It’s a colossal line up sure to put up a good fight against a quality card.  Sure to White’s displeasure, here are 5 reasons you should watch Strikeforce – Fedor vs. Rogers.

5) Women’s MMA

Just because Dana White didn’t want women fighting under the UFC banner doesn’t mean they don’t belong in the sport.  Make no mistake about it, these female warriors put on a good show.  In most cases their fights are more compelling than those of their male counterparts.  Carano vs. Cyborg was a massive success and even though women’s MMA is “The Gina Carano Show” this is an excellent opportunity to see the other capable women in the sport not named either Gina Carano or Cris Cyborg.  Roxanne Modaferri vs. Marloes Coenen should be an entertaining scrap and also help paint a picture of potential challenger(s) for Cris Cyborg.

4) Gegard Mousasi

"The Dream Catcher" lived up to his moniker by putting Babalu to sleep for the middleweight championship.

Mousasi is arguably the most talented light heavyweight not in the UFC.  He has devastating skills and his impressive KO of former UFC champion Renato “Babalu” Sobral in his Strikefore debut opened many eyes.  His title is not on the line but keep in mind he’s the #7 ranked light heavyweight in the world regardless of promotion according to Sherdog.  Whenever a fighter is mentioned in the same breath as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida & Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, then that fighter deserves a look.  He shouldn’t disappoint.

3) Jason “Mayhem” Miller vs. Jake Shields

"Mayhem" is a lunatic and crazy guys are always entertaining.

The Strikeforce Middleweight Championship fight is a lock for “Fight of the Night”.  “Mayhem” Miller should bring millions of fresh fans to the event thanks to his hosting gig on MTV’s “Bully Beatdown”.  Those who knew him before MTV know him for his flamboyant style and balls out fighting style.  Jake Shields is a beast that is vastly skilled and matches up well against Miller.  Shields is a heavy favorite but Miller doesn’t lat down for anybody and has promised to “beat the piss out of Jake Shields”.  You can bet the farm that both Miller and Shields will make this an instant classic.

2) Fedor Emelianenko

Move over Mr. Rogers, this is Fedor's neighborhood.

The Russian Sambo king looks more like the neighborhood bus driver than the world’s top heavyweight, but his impressive record illustrates he’s butchered a murderer’s row of legendary heavyweights including a few former UFC champions.  Forget the language barrier because Fedor does his talking violently with his fists.  The next one in line looking to crush the folklore of Fedor is heavy-hitting Brett Rogers.  Rogers is a big and scary heavyweight who can end the fight in an instant.   At 6′5″ and 265lbs he is a monster of man who is living up the “Rocky” role leading up to the fight.  Fedor is no stranger to larger opponents and has dismantled them with the slightest window open for destruction.  This one is not going the distance and will be fun while it lasts.  If you love knockouts then this is a fight you’re not going to want to miss.

1) It’s Free

Strikeforce is exhibiting every MMA fan’s dream.  They are airing a PPV quality card for free on a major network.  The UFC has put on similar shows for free on Spike but believe it or not, not everyone has cable.  All you need is a television and you can watch Fedor vs. Rogers.

Competition is good and in this case the fans are the beneficiaries.  Pro wrestling was at its peak when Ted Turner’s WCW went head-to-head against Vince McMahon’s WWE (formerly WWF).  Competition raises the bar and forces one to boost their brand.  UFC105 is airing live on Spike and it’s not because Dana White wants to throw you a bone.

The raging sensation Muay Tai fighter Gina Carano is taking the Mixed Martial Arts world by storm. With her Muay Tai fighting background and devastating kicks, Gina has posted an amazing 7 win 1 loss professional MMA record, and also holds a 12 win 1 loss Amateur Muay Tai Fighting record. Standing at a towering 5`8 and a whopping 155 pounds Gina has taken the MMA world by storm and has become the first female to headline a main event in MMA history. Although the sport is relatively new, there are still plenty of people who oppose female competition in the sport. They see it as barbaric and a bit vulgar. While others see it as a great opportunity to see the sport expand and grow for more women to compete in the US and overseas. People it’s time to let go of these old traditions you have and expand your mind to a new era. I am excited to see female competition in all sports no matter how brutal because that is their choice. We as close minded people shouldn’t be the judge on if a female can compete in a fighting event or not. If you see it as “not lady like” then turn the channel and don’t support it, but it’s time to turn the page and expand our horizon because anyone has the right to do whatever they like.

So this morning, as I pounded my 2nd redbull and tried to wipe the sleep out of my eyes, I almost thought I hadn’t woken up yet when I stumbled across this Magazine Cover of Gina Carano practically naked on the cover or ESPN Magazine.  Ok, so I guess she’s not “actually” naked here, but it’s pretty damn close.

So Gina is taking time off to be a movie star.  Her star power and her reach as the “face of women’s MMA” seems to be stronger than ever, and judging by my quick google search, plenty of people are talking about her.  What do you think?  Should it only be the “pretty fighters” that get all the attention? Should guys just resolve themselves to the fact that there are plenty of female fighters out there that aren’t considered beautiful by guys conventional standards? Or should we just take it at face value and consider Gina a great fighter, who happens to be beautiful and is making a huge career appearing all over the media and giving the fans what they want?

No matter how you cut it, she’s killing it on the daily and you have to respect that.

Okey dokey, I think we’re ready. This video comes to us from something called Ong Bak 2, which probably means theres’s a movie already out there called Ong Bak 1, or simply just Ong Bak, where awesome stuff happens, but not quite awesome enough, because this was meant to top it, and well, it’s pretty awesome. It stars some dude named Tony Jaa, and he likes to punch and kick stuff. It opens in theatres on Oc. 23rd, so duck.

The second little bit of ass-kickery is that ESPN is putting out what they’re calling the BODY ISSUE, which seems like an excuse to publish pictures of naked athletes. Serena Williams (I think she’s hot, Pete doesn’t), Biba Golic (Hot table tennis player) and my personal favorite, MMA fighter Gina Carano are all featured. Bruins Captain Zdeno Chara is in it too, but we’re going to steer clear of that, ok? Carano is “H-A-W-T” hot. Like, “two-rabid-squirrels-effing-in-a-wool-sock” hot. And she’s topless on the cover. Like so:

Sweet googly-moogly.

Steven Soderbergh speaks to MTV News about more details on Gina Carano starring in the action flick, “Knockout” that he will soon be directing. He explained the reason why he has chosen her as the leading role. Soderbergh plans to make, the “Knockout” movie, an in-your-face, Jason Bourne styled action movie.

Instead he wanted a female to be the action hero. To make it more realistic, he wanted a female fighter that had the fighting skills. He explains he is a fan of MMA and turns out that he is a huge fan of Gina Carano in the sport. He’s been watching her in MMA for a long while and figure she would be perfect for this role.

Steven also explains that Gina will be involved in a few car chases in “Knockout”, but they won’t be that silly fake CGI stuff you see in other movies. The car chases will be more realistic like the car chases you see in real life.

Sounds way cool. Interesting. This could be a very promising movie and a great action flick if made right. I’m sure it will be great. Gina Carano in car chases and getting into action scenes with her own stunts? Hell yeah. Bring it on.

Since Steven said he’s going to have a cast around her with actors that are more well known so she can be comfortable, Steven would probably go for actors he already worked with in the past. Could Steven get George Clooney? Yes. What about Benicio Del Torro? Yes. He could even get Matt Damon to pair up with her in this flick.

As an MMA fan I enjoy watching the sport get mainstream exposure and evolve. Sometimes things come along that hinder progress or push that progress forward.

Gina Carano aka ” The Face Of Women’s MMA” has helped break the gender barriers of MMA and has added to the sports mainstream exposure. While I am a fan of Gina the fighter  it seems that Gina the superstar takes center stage nowadays. Don’t get me wrong she is very attractive which of course is a plus but at times it seems that her exposure is based on the physical appearance and not her physical prowess. Keep in mind this was all done to promote a movie she is in directed by Steven Soderbergh called Knockout.

This little blurb leads me to a pic posted by the crew at Filmdrunk ( A great no b.s movie blog I may add) that is Gina’s cover on ESPN magazine.ESPN knew that as men we think with our dicks a large portion of the time so of course why not make a topless Gina the cover.  Looking at this cover the 1st rational response is fuck that’s hot but in the end will this improve the state of women’s mma or will it hinder it? As always your thoughts are appreciated.

By the way enjoy the cover you filthy animals hahahaha.

Tennis star Serena Williams, the NBA’s Dwight Howard, the NFL’s Adrian Peterson and mixed martial artist Gina Carano are among the 30-plus athletes posing nude or semi-nude in ESPN The Magazine’s first-ever “Body Issue” hitting newsstands Oct. 9.

Carano is one of the cover…um…models? They did six different covers, each featuring one of six athletes (three men, three women). Carano’s one of them.

While I can certainly see some anatomical and artistic interest in something like this, let’s be honest: this is a ploy for more readership (much like this post). And it’s going to work.

Except, maybe for this:

In another section called “Exposure,” groups of athletes from the LPGA, the U.S. Women’s Softball Team, the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers, Major League Soccer’s D.C. United and even a group of poker players pose in their birthday suits.

Anyway, the only reason I’m posting about it is: lots and lots of people are googling Gina Carano now, and I’m getting a lot of traffic – Yuri Fujikawa-sized traffic – on this old post, featuring Carano’s picture.
