I had been looking forward to watching this for a really, really long time. If you know me, you know

I had been looking forward to watching this for a really, really long time. If you know me, you know that I’m rather fascinated by Mormons, so it basically seemed like HBO had personally selected my random/odd interest for the topic of a show and proceeded, assuming correctly that I would bite, eventually. And so I let the Beach Boys wash over me and settled into the premium cable version of LDS’dom.

I was bored for the first two-thirds of this season. I think that amounts to, like, 8 episodes. Sure, there was sex and intrigue and creepy prophet guy and creepy young wife chick and all that, but frankly, it weirded me out. I have a fair number of Mormon friends, so whenever someone relates polygamy and Mormonism, I always defend my friends, reiterating that the Mormon church abolished polygamy quite some time ago and pegging the FLDS peeps with polygamy, which is true, anyways. And yet, while watching this show, I couldn’t help but think that I was peering into the lives of real Mormons. It’s funny, too, because the fictional Henricksons don’t explicitly state that they’re Mormon. They’re basically not. They just live by the Principle, in Utah, in modest clothing, and they refer to God as Heavenly Father. Those are all very Mormon things, or at least archaic Mormon things (in the case of the Principle). So, for me, it was hard to separate the two. I felt like I was trespassing, and not in that awesome-TV-voyeurism way. More like in the I’m-not-sure-I-want-to-know-what-these-people-are-doing-behind-closed-doors way. I don’t judge the characters, or the people on which the characters are based, so it’s not that polygamy made me uncomfortable. It’s … the characters themselves. None of them were enjoyable for me to watch, up until a point. Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) began bland, Nikki (Chloe Sevigny) began annoying, Margene (Ginnifer Goodwin) began clingy, and Bill (Bill Paxton) began borzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Sorry, I fell asleep thinking about Bizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Bill Paxton is the most boring-looking, boring-seeming person on the planet. I can’t trust the chemistry he has with any of those three beautiful women! It’s ridiculous!

So why did I keep watching? Well, for one thing, I wanted to figure out why the hell anyone other than me would want to watch this show. And why people kept watching even though someone like me wasn’t even that interested. I realize that sounds incredibly arrogant, but it’s true. The show contains so many LDS references and terms and jokes, and having Mormon friends has let me in on many of those references, but the majority of the world is not aware of what Relief Society or CTR or Temple Recommends are. I’m still wondering why people care, but I have come to the realization that many people are curious, and so they tune in. Mormons keep to themselves, which seems silly to say when they deploy missionaries all over the world to spread the gospel, but they don’t exactly brag about their religion or wear it on their sleeves like many others do. Is this a window into Mormonism for many onlookers? If so, they’re getting a weird taste for it.

I admit I’m really curious about the Temple episode that caused all that controversy. But I ultimately decided to add Season 2 to my Netflix queue because of Margene. Her storyline fascinates me, especially on account of her almost-converting and almost-making out with some random guy her age and all that. And Ben’s story is really interesting, too. The perspective of the writers, whom I believe are at least in part ex-members, is so intriguing. They’ve got Utah down pat, from the box stores to the flat highways to the impersonally beautiful mountains to the awkwardly Southern accents to the Family Values to the haircuts. And, oh, the Mormon dating. It’s perfect.

So there you have it. I guess it just comes down to curiosity, and I can’t blame anyone for being curious. I just hope, as I’m sure all Mormons do, that this show hasn’t given people another reason to stereotype members of the LDS church. No matter how many disclaimers you print, no matter how many times you say it, people will assume that this show is about all Mormons, fundamentalist or not. And that sucks. Because it’s not. It’s a show about semi-interesting people who happen to be polygamists.

Next year we can all look forward to Tom Ford’s debut as a director, and what a debut it looks

Next year we can all look forward to Tom Ford’s debut as a director, and what a debut it looks likely to be. The film “A Single Man”, starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Nicholas Hoult, Ginnifer Goodwin and Matthew Goode, is an adaptation of the 1964 novel of the same name by Christopher Isherwood. Reviews so far have been very good, and let’s face it, everything that man touches turns into (black) gold.

The story is set in Los Angeles in 1962, and follows a day in the life of George (Firth) who is struggling to come to terms with the death of his long-term partner Jim (Goode) and find a meaning in his life again. Comforted by best friend Charley (Moore) and stalked by his student Kenny (Hoult, of Skins and About a Boy fame), in the character George Colin Firth delivers a performance that has already received high praise. Costumes and production design was of course handled by Ford, and rather excitingly the production designer behind Mad Men, so it’s set to be a visually striking production.

The film was nominated for a Golden Lion after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September, and Colin Firth won best actor both there and at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. “A Single Man” will have a limited release in the states on December 11th to catch the Oscars race, and it has been hotly tipped to be nominated in several categories, perhaps particularly for Best Actor. So far, no release date has been set for the rest of the world, but it looks likely to be early 2010.

(New Line) Jennifer Aniston, Ben Affleck, Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Connelly, Justin Long, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kevin Connolly, Bradley Cooper, Scarlett Johansson, Kris Kristofferson, Luis Guzman, Busy Philipps. Directed by Ken Kwapis.

Establishing a relationship has never been more complicated or gut-wrenching as it is in the 21st century. While the ability of the sexes to interpret the signals of the other has remained the same – woefully inadequate – the means for communicating those signals have grown exponentially. As one character sighs in this romantic comedy, it’s now possible to be rejected by seven different technologies. Romeo and Juliet beset by digital dejection in an Internet age.

Gigi (Goodwin) is on a date with Conor (Connolly), a successful realtor. The date seems to be going pretty well, and as they part Gigi anticipates a call from Conor, thinking there might be a real connection between them. So she waits…and she waits…and still the phone refuses to ring.

Anna (Johansson) runs into Ben (Cooper) at a corner grocery, and thinks they’ve formed a connection. The problem is that Ben is married to neurotic Janine (Connelly), and while he promises help with Anna’s singing career, he is troubled by his attraction to her.

Beth (Aniston) and Neil (Affleck) have been together for seven years. While Beth wants commitment and marriage, Neil is averse to the whole idea of marriage. After all, he is committed to her he supports her in every way and loves her completely. Why do they need any further confirmation of a relationship that already exists?

As Gigi comes to the realization that Conor perhaps may not call, she hooks up with Alex (Long), a close friend of Conor who offers her valuable insight as to the ways of men. She begins to view him at first as something of a mentor, but eventually begins to develop romantic feelings towards him. Meanwhile, Conor – who had a previous relationship with Anna, still pines for her. Anna, for her part, is friendly with Conor and in some ways leads him on, but focuses on pursuing Ben, after a conversation with her friend Mary (Barrymore), who coincidentally works at a local weekly as an ad rep, servicing Conor’s advertising account. Meanwhile, Beth and Neil have split up as Beth has come to the conclusion that she and Neil no longer want the same things.

Based on a best-selling self-help book, the movie has an excellent ensemble cast and they perform to expectations. Director Kwapis, a veteran of television and big-screen light comedies, manages the entwined storylines nicely, and manages to give all of the storylines more or less equal attention (with the exception of Barrymore, who also produced the movie).

The viewpoint is distinctly feminine. Most of the male characters embody stereotypical male sins – cheating, commitment-phobia, and objectification, to name a few. However, to be fair, the women have their share of neuroses as well. Janine is a control freak who has an absolute phobia of smoking. In fact, when she finds out about her husband’s infidelity, she is much more irritated about the possibility that he might be smoking behind her back. Gigi is a tightly-wound stalker-in-the-making who is so un-self-confident that is almost desperate for a relationship to work, no matter how self-destructive that relationship might be.

The problem I have is two-fold. First, the situations tend to be terribly cliché; there are few surprises and quite frankly, you can see where each relationship is headed without exception. In that case, the characters should be interesting enough to make the audience want to go along for the ride even though there’s no shock as to where they’re headed. The sad fact is, they’re really not, drawn from cookie-cutter issues. Gigi as a character is particularly hard to relate to as she is just sooooooo annoying, and her chosen man Alex is not much better.

Still, there are laughs to be had, and a few insights as well, albeit none that are terribly new or different. The attractive cast does as good a job as possible given the limitations of the script, so you might not find this a complete waste of time. However, guys be warned; there is precious little examination of what truly motivates men to behave the way they do in relationships; rather, this is more of an excoriation of male vices. Most of the women here don’t fare much better, being painted as needy and neurotic; they are defined by the men they’re with more than the people they are. In that sense, this is much more insidious misogyny than any episode of “Married…With Children” than I can recall.

In fact, there are many far better examinations of the ways and means of 21st century romance than this. You’d be better off seeking them out at your local rental store, online or at your video-on-demand outlet.

WHY RENT THIS: An attractive and talented cast performing really well at times. Some genuinely funny moments, but not many.

WHY RENT SOMETHING ELSE: Cookie-cutter characters populate a script riddled with clichés. Estrogen-laden world view that spares little thought to what really motivates men in favor of pointing out their failings. Goodwin and Long are genuinely annoying.

FAMILY VALUES: Some sexual innuendo going on here and a few heavy make-out sessions, but nothing you wouldn’t see on a TV drama.

TRIVIAL PURSUITS: Greg Behrendt, the author of the book the movie is based on, makes a cameo as a minister at Beth’s sister’s wedding.

NOTABLE DVD EXTRAS: Nothing listed.

FINAL RATING: 4/10

TOMORROW: Up

(h/t @ahfdemocrat) We at DBIH can only assume that our spike in traffic (and crazy commenters- see b

(h/t @ahfdemocrat)

We at DBIH can only assume that our spike in traffic (and crazy commenters- see below) mean one thing: book deal. And don’t worry potential publishers, we are ready. Boy are we ready. In fact, we are so ready (!!!!) that we’ve already gotten some ideas together for merchandising DBIH. You don’t have to thank us, your money will be enough.

Firstly, the book. Clearly. It would help if it was scratch and sniff, but if it isn’t, I guess we can deal. In the book, we could include some of our favorite recipes as well as a map of our favorite locations in DC and around the world (including, but not limited to: Baked and Wired, any S$$ which serves PSLs, anywhere where Tall can buy more Burberry and Marc Jacobs, and the Circulator route that goes down K street). Obviously, this book would be a best-seller. It would clearly outsell Amy Tan and Dan Brown (fucking assholes) combined. At least when we make things up (I’m talking to you crazy-ass commenters), it’s funny.

The book would be like this, but better.

Secondofly, some kind of visual media- preferably a major motion picture, but an HBO miniseries would do (those win a shit-ton of Emmys). Playing me would be Ginnifer Goodwin. I just adore her hair. Playing Work Chucks would obviously be Drew Barrymore, in her current crazy-ass jeans+hightops incarnation. Her look is phenomenal. Dirty Hippie would be Julia Stiles circa 10 Things and @ahfdemocrat thinks he’d be Seth Cohen. I’m not sure he’s funny enough. We’re still unclear if Tall will be played by Gisele Bunchen or a gazelle- I think it could probably go either way. Once Jappy starts turning into more of a “butch” type, she can be played by Jane Lynch, a true SSR favorite. I still can’t think of who would play Chef Hooles, but it would totally be someone awesome. Chef Hooles will be played by Amy Adams, who is totally adorable and who learned how to cook for Julie and Julia!

The extreme popularity of the movie/miniseries would prompt NBC/Universal (aka Jack Donaghy) into further merchandising deals with us. DBIH would be everywhere, including a themed restaurant, preferably somewhere totally awesome in DC/London. Chef Hooles could come up with the menu, which would be closely mirrored upon DBIH favorite restaurant Figs, but we would obviously add ice cream cake and mojitos.

Just get it done (nope...I lost it. That was Batman)

The restaurant will be huge, because Chef Hooles is a great cook and we at DBIH love to eat. Yes we do.

I can just tell that people will really want to join the DBIH lifestyle. Who wouldn’t? It’s fucking amazing. We’d be willing (for a small fee, you know, a pound of flesh or so) to license a theme park ride, under a few conditions, namely that it be at Epcot. I fucking love Epcot. The ride would take average Americans (like you!) through the magical world of DBIH: SSR, Sarajevo, and Big Blue. There would be vodka watermelon for everyone and instead of uncomfy roller coaster seats like on It’s a Small World, everyone could sit in papasan chairs.

Finally, @ahfdemocrat recommended DBIH porno. This is kind of creepy. I’ll just let the suggestion come directly from him.

DBIH the porn magazine

it would be babies, lesbian celebrities, me, and bradley whitford

Creepy? yes. Would we make bank? Obvi.

Brothers: opening in theaters Dec. 4, 2009.
Directed by: Jim Sheridan
Starring: Natalie Portman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire

Although this film looks a little bit like a 21st century Pearl Harbor with a slight horror twist, I’m intrigued. Portman, Gyllenhaal and Maguire rarely give bad performances and so if we are basing this off of past precedent I think this film could be good. Intense, but good.

A Single Man: opening in limited release Dec. 11, 2009.
Directed by: Tom Ford
Starring: Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode and Ginnifer Goodwin

This is fashion designer Tom Ford’s directorial debut. Do I really need to say more? Curiosity has consumed me. Plus, if such heavy weights as Moore and Firth are part of the cast, I’m hoping that this means Ford actually has some promise as a director. Not to mention it is nice to see Firth in a role that doesn’t require him being the cheesy rom-com lead.

The Young Victoria: opening in limited release Dec. 18, 2009.
Directed by: Jean-Marc Vallée
Starring: Emily Blunt, Rupert Friend, Paul Bettany, Miranda Richardson and Jim Broadbent

I am a sucker for period pieces and Emily Blunt is quickly becoming an actress “to watch out for.” The romantic love story of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert is not one I’m too familiar with, so I hope it’s tragic and heart-wrenching. That is they only was a love story should be.

I don’t think there could be a film that looked more promising for me on paper; Colin Firth plays an aging British college professor in LA, mourning the death of his gorgeous partner of 16 years, and going about his day whilst quietly contemplating suicide. Call me more than a little melancholy, but all this makes me giddy with excitement! The film also happens to be the directorial debut of designer Tom Ford, which if not ensuring experience, certainly ensures glamorous elements of fashion, design, music and homoeroticism that certainly float my boat. And oh my giddy Christ, I haven’t even got to the sweetest plum of them all yet: THIS FILM HAS JULIANNE MOORE IN IT. As keen cinephiles might be able to spot by this blog’s title, I am quite the fan. Lordy, that’s a whole lot of HELL YES coming from this boy.

So, does it deliver? I can only gush a resounding yes. This film was quite simply beautiful. It swept me away just like I hoped it would. Colin Firth’s performance is so accomplished and so real that you just ache for him. Guy Lodge over at incontention.com wrote of the performance as “graceful”, and I can’t think of a better adjective to describe it. Fluid and meticulous, his character washes over you as the film develops. Firth finds a way to guide the audience through his performance; you stay with him, you believe in him, and, most miraculously, you feel as he does. Quite some praise, I know, but this isn’t forced hyperbole. It really is that good.

And Julianne Moore! Oh the wondrous Julianne Moore. Playing Firth’s boozy, lonely friend of many years the actress perfectly conveys a different, yet just as pulsating loneliness to Firth’s. Firth is trapped within himself, yet with Moore’s character she is a prisoner in a more literal sense. The physicality of her beautiful home imprisons her, with its haunting emptiness. The final shot of the actress sees Firth leave her at the front door of the house. She is motionless as the door swings shut and the camera pans away, following Firth. You feel at once as if she is fated to stand at that door forever, and the sadness of it all is so stark and compelling. It is a wonderful, wonderful shot.

Many of the themes in this film resound in a very personal way for me, and I can definitely understand why it might not be suited to everyone. To some, probably more matured souls, it might simply register as a dramatised GQ set; indulgent and overly-talky. But to my neurotic young self it was quite simply perfect.

The Weinstein Company’s “A SINGLE MAN” has been selected as the closing night gala presentation. Sony Pictures Classics’ “THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS” has been selected as AFI FEST’s Centerpiece Screening Gala presentation. The film will make its US Premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Monday, November 2, 2009.

“A SINGLE MAN” features the directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford from his script adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s acclaimed novel. The film follows a day in the life of a gay British college professor in Los Angeles as he attempts to cope with the death of his partner. Ford’s work helming the project and Colin Firth’s lead performance in the film have received critical acclaim following screenings at the Venice and Toronto film festivals. Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode and Ginnifer Goodwin also star in the film. The Weinstein Company release is due in theaters on December 11. Ford, Firth and Moore are scheduled to attend.

“It is exciting to champion a talented artist like Tom Ford as he moves beyond the boundaries of one medium into another. In “A SINGLE MAN”, he delivers an elegant and beautiful personal story that will resonate with all audience members“ said AFI FEST Artistic Director Rose Kuo.

The Centerpiece Screening Gala presentation features the latest work by director Terry Gilliam. “THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS” follows the leader of a traveling theater troupe who, having made a deal with the devil, takes audience members through a magical mirror to explore their imaginations. The film stars Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Heath Ledger in his final role. The Sony Pictures Classics release is due in theaters stateside on December 25. Gilliam and Plummer are scheduled to attend.
“The mind-altering, looking-glass world that Terry Gilliam creates in “IMAGINARIUM” notes Director of Programming Robert Koehler, “is like a model for his ideal cinema, in which anything can happen and all rules are broken. If audiences thought that “THE DARK KNIGHT” was their last glimpse of Heath Ledger, then what Ledger brings to Gilliam’s fantasy-adventure will surprise them.”

AFI FEST has selected actors Christopher Plummer and Viggo Mortensen to receive tributes at this year’s Festival. Sponsored by the Skirball Cultural Center, Plummer’s tribute event will precede the screening of his film THE LAST STATION on Tuesday, November 3. Mortensen’s tribute will precede the US Premiere of the film THE ROAD on Wednesday, November 4. Both Tributes will take place at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

One of the world’s most respected actors, Plummer has won two Tony Awards (for CYRANO and BARRYMORE), three Drama Desk Awards, the National Arts Club Medal and two Emmys.

“THE ROAD” is adapted from the acclaimed novel by Cormac McCarthy. The film stars Mortensen as a father making his way with his young son across the scorched landscape of a post-apocalyptic world. Directed by John Hillcoat from a script by Joe Penhall, the film also stars Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce and Molly Parker. The Weinstein Company release is due in theaters November 25. Mortensen, Hillcoat and Theron are scheduled to attend.

Mortensen’s career highlights include notable films roles in “THE LORD OF THE RINGS” TRILOGIES and, “EASTERN PROMISES” for which he received Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.

“Viggo Mortensen and Christopher Plummer are two actors and film artists of the highest order,” said Kuo. “They share that rare trait of being looked up to by audiences and film fans around the world as well as being greatly respected by their peers.”

Other highlights among the complete film schedule announced today include Jonathan Demme’s music documentary “NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW” (with Demme and Young confirmed to attend) and the screening of two films connected by legendary art director and longtime AFI Conservatory Distinguished Lecturer Robert Boyle, who turned 100 on October 10. Those films are AFI Conservatory Alumnus Daniel Raim’s (Production Design ’99) documentary SOMETHING’S GONNA LIVE and Alfred Hitchcock’s classic NORTH BY NORTHWEST, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

On Monday, November 2, AFI FEST, in conjunction with Warner Home Video will present a special screening of Hitchcock’s NORTH BY NORTHWEST. The first Hitchcock film to be released on Blu-ray, the film has been restored and remastered for its 50th anniversary. As part of the Gala event, director William Friedkin will attend to moderate a Q&A with Boyle and the film’s stars Eva Marie Saint and Martin Landau.

AFI FEST continues its unique and successful association with the American Film Market with 23 of the features in official selection at AFI FEST represented by distributors at AFM, unfolding concurrently with AFI FEST from November 4–November 11.

AFI FEST 2009’s overall lineup will showcase 67 features (54 narrative, 13 documentary) and 27 shorts for a total of 94 films from 32 countries.

The Festival is headquartered at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. All screenings from October 30–November 5 will take place at the Grauman’s Chinese and Mann Chinese 6 theaters in Hollywood with the final two days of the Festival (November 6-7) screening at the Laemmle’s Monica 4-plex in Santa Monica.

A Film By Tom Ford

One of the most anticipated films of the year is about to be released. The designer directed the film, and the script was adapted from Christopher Isherwood’s work. With an acclaimed showing at the Venice Film Festival like Brokeback Mountain – We all know how it ended – Do I smell Oscars? Could the Almighty Mr. Ford win an Academy Award? He has proven he can do it all.

The film, starring Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, is presented as a poem about a man who believes he is living the last day of his life. Critics have applauded Ford’s sensitivity and composure behind the cameras. And the film won the Gay Gold Lion award for the best film with a homosexual theme.

The story is about how a Californian teacher loses his partner, and then loses all meaning in his life. And if you take a look at the trailer you’ll see that model Jon Kortajarena, an icon of Tom Ford ad campaigns, plays a brief but intense role in the film.

Çok beğendiğim moda tasarımcısı Tom Ford kariyerinde bir ilk yaparak sinema işine el atmış.Hem de beklenenin aksine oyuncu olarak değil yönetmen olarka.Venedik Film Festivali’nde Colin Firth‘e En İyi Erkek Oyuncu ödülünü kazandıran A Single Man adlı bu film çok beğenildiğinden dolayı kısa sürede Oscar yarışının içine dahil oldu.

Colin Firth dışında Julianne Moore, Ginnifer Goodwin ve Lee Pace‘i de kadrosunda barındırıyor A Single Man.Ayrıca Mad Man‘dan tanıdığımız Jon Hamm da sesiyle filme katkıda bulunmuş.Yüzyılın moda dehalarından biri olarak tanımlayabileceğimiz Tom Ford, Christopher Isherwood‘un aynı adlı eserinden uyarladığı filminde bir gay’in partnerinin ölümü sonrasında başından geçenleri anlatıyor.

The Best Of The Night

Love Her!!!!!

Metallics were big again last night, with starlets like Debra Mesing and Kristin Chenoweth sparkling in twinkles, shiny sequins and shimmering reflections, it was a frosty night. But honoring the red carpet the biggest trend of the night was Valentino’s Iconic color… red gowns: with Blake Lively, Hayden Panettiere, Debra Messing and Toni Collette all opting for shades of crimson. Red was big, but as part of the jewel tones like blue or violet gowns.

White, pale and nude tones also played a starring role on the glammed-up starlets – echoing the trend for muted tones that we have seen emerging on the spring/summer 2010 catwalks – with Drew Barrymore, Rose Byrne and Cat Deeley all glowing in muted gold and rose tones.

Congratulations to Emmy Winner Kristin Chenoweth, as she won for best supporting actress in a comedy series for pushing daisies. She looked stunning in that mirrored mini and gave one of the best speeches of the nigh.. She is really sweet and talented. The Gossip Girls were amazing, as well as Debra Messing but my favorites are Olivia Wild and January Jones. Drew Barrymore ensemble was just Breath-Taking. Loved Her

The Emmy’s were last night and overall, the red carpet did not wow me. There were a few dresses I liked , and so I have decided to share them with you. I was able to find most of the designers, but I am missing a couple. So far Marchesa is leading in most successful pieces on the carpet. Kudos to Marchesa for embodying such delicacy and femininity. Speaking of Marchesa, it reminds me that I spotted (courtesy of The Lipstick Diaries) a pair of gorgeous transparent shoes from Christian Louboutin. Louboutin has teamed up with Marchesa for the 2010 spring collection and is doing it B.I.G. Be looking for them.

Now, there once was a time when the red carpet at such an event as The Emmy’s, would be filled with elegant and sexy gowns that we would kill to be in. However, this award show did not do it for me. I did pick some gowns I found to have character and be the best that I saw. Let me know what you think.

Marchesa: Olivia Wilde, Heidi Klum, Sandra Oh

Found these ladies to glamorous in their long evening gowns, but felt Byrne should have had a chignon or waved tresses for her Valentino.

***I apologize for the Louboutin Marchesa plug-in, but I felt it was only right as I was discovering how many hitters Marchesa had on the carpet!

When the VMA’s happened last weekend I was sorely disappointed in the red carpet fashion – so boring! Except for Lady Gaga of course. But last night’s Emmys did not disappoint. Monique Lhuillier was huge on the red carpet with Drew Barrymore and Mila Kunis looking stunning in layered tulle. Other trends: one-shouldered gowns, rose and blush tones, bright purples and white.

January Jones! She looks lovely in a “modern, pink quartz silk satin evening gown with an embroidered glass beaded bustier by Versace. She added Neil Lane jewels and platform sandals from Jimmy Choo.”

I love this dress the most for many reasons, most notably because there is no scenario on God’s green Earth where I could pull off this dress. And that’s why Hollywood and celebrities are for – to make us regular people feel bad about ourselves.
